Life sucked and Jordan just figured out how very bad it did. His life was a complete mess. Nothing had seemed to go right since she left in fact it had gone from bad to worse. The only part that seemed fine was his performances. The fans knew nothing. That was how he liked it. He only did meet and greets when Chad forced him too and he figured he could pretend for a couple of hours to be interested. He hadn’t worked or written on new music since she left. He couldn’t even go near his house in Orlando. It was too much. Joe had graciously allowed him to bunk in his house in Boston while he was trying to straighten out his life. Jordan looked around his room and was strangely reminded of his days at home. He half listened to the TV as it played in the back ground. He was supposed to have an interview showing today
“You know I forgot how sucky it was to live with you” Joe said as he walked in threw a pile of laundry at the foot of his bed.
“Sorry” Jordan said with out any real apology as he stared at himself on TV.
Joe sat down on the bed beside him “Good interview” he nodded at the screen.
“Yeah I look like crap” Jordan said with a half laugh
“yep that you do” Joe said tossing a shirt at him “but that is nothing new”
Jordan laughed as he stared at the screen. Had she seen it? The question keep repeating in his mind. He had thought that she might call him or at least let him know something but she hadn’t responded to any of his attempts to contact her.
“Do you think she saw it?” Joe asked as if he was reading his mind
Jordan jerked his head around and stared at Joe “Couldn’t say” he said dejectedly.
“Well just try to remember to get your laundry out of the damn dryer when you actually do it” Joe said pointing to the pile of clothes and turning around to go.
“Joe” Jordan called out
“Yeah” he said turning around with a smile
“Thanks for putting me up” Jordan said with a half grin
“No worries” he said waving it off “and besides” he shrugged “its only temporary”
Jordan couldn’t help but smile as he watched him close the door. He hoped to god he was right. It had to change. She couldn’t avoid him forever. Liz finally told him that she was now working with Jeff Timmons and he was furious with Chad for not letting him know. That meant that she was in the business and they were bound to cross paths eventually.
Jordan cell rang.
“Yeah” He said absently
“Good Job today” Chad said on the other end
“thanks” he said as his heart sank. Why did he always hope it was her on the other end?
“We leave for New York tomorrow”
“Yep I know” Jordan said as he picked up a laundered shirt “my maid’s just brought in my packing” he grinned
“Joe getting ready too I see” Chad said with a laugh
“Yeah” Jordan paused “have you heard from her” he asked tentatively
Chad sighed “No, just call her” he said with an exhausted tone.
“She won’t answer” Jordan said heatedly
“Then quite asking me, I don’t know” Chad said the anger creeping into his voice.
“Ok thanks” Jordan said distractedly
He hit end on his phone and just stared at it. He had to keep trying. He just couldn’t let this go. He found her number, pressed the call button and he heard the phone ring. He counted the familiar number of rings and was about to hang up when he heard her answer breathlessly.
“Hello?” she said with a gasp
He was so stunned that she answered that he didn’t speak at first. He could feel the goose bumps creep up his arms. She had finally answered.
“Hello?” she said again her voice taking on a agitated tone
“hey, you finally answered” he said lightly as his voice shook
“Jordan?” she said with a gasp of confusion
“Yeah its me” he said quietly
“Oh, sorry I was running to grab the phone and didn’t see who it was” she said testily
Was that comment meant to make him think that she would not have answered it if she had seen it was him? He shook his head as his frustration built. She really didn’t give a damn about him.
“I sent you a message” he said lightly
“Really? I am so sorry I hardly ever go to the site anymore, so I haven’t gotten it yet” she apologized
The frustration rose again and for the first time anger was behind it. “Well I can take a hint you know” he said and slammed back a shot of burning alcohol from the bottle he kept beside his bed “I am sorry I called I won’t bother you again” he snapped out
“Jordan” she called out right before he closed the phone
“what?” he said harshly
“Look, I’m sorry” she said with real meaning this time
“Don’t be” he added as he stood. He hadn’t realized how hard rejection was really going to be.
“I am I really am” she said with a sob to her voice
“Kristy, what is it?” he said as his anger melted away
“Jordan, I want to talk to you, I do. But I just can’t” she said in frustration “I can’t do this” she said and she hung up.
“Hello?” Jordan said quickly “Kristy?” he asked the dead line.
He pulled the phone away and just stared at it. She hung up on him and had she been crying? He hit the dial button again. The phone rang once and then went straight to her voice mail.
“Damn” he said and threw the liquor bottle against the wall. The shattering glass made him feel a little better as he pushed out of the room. He couldn’t hide the rage on his face as he walked into the living room
“What in god’s name just happened” Joe said standing there in shock
“What?” Jordan said blindly as he held his phone
“Did you get her?” Joe asked suspiously as he looked at Jordan’s phone
“What?” Jordan barked out heatedly
Joe laughed “Don’t play that with me you call her before and after every show” he waited as he watched Jordan’s face change “So, did you get her this time?” he made a gesture to promote his answer
“Yeah I did” Jordan said looking at the floor
“and?” Chad asked again
“well she said that she wanted to talk to me but she just couldn’t and then she just hung up” Jordan said with a shrug
“Hung up?” Joe asked totally lost
“Yeah she just hung up and she sounded really upset” he said with concern
“Did you try calling her back?”
“No, I just left it at that” Jordan said sarcastically “Yes I did and she didn’t answer” he finished to Joe’s frown.
“Well, all you can do is try” he said as he motioned to suitcases on the floor “and we need to get ready to get out of here“.
Jordan went back into his room to pack and clean up his rage, constantly thinking about her. He was so worried. Was she in trouble? Did she need him?
“You ready to take these down” Joe said with a gesture to the cases
“Yeah” Jordan said distractedly. He pulled out his phone. She said she couldn’t talk to him but maybe she would text him. It took him forever to compose his message. Sorry you can’t talk. If you need me you know I am here. Just a friend no pressure. Thinking of you always, J. He sent it. He waited patiently for a few minutes and when nothing came back he moved back to the bath room to finish gathering his stuff. On the way back into the living his phone vibrated and his pulse rate jumped. He wrestled to get his phone out and hastily flipped it open. It was her. He sighed as he pressed the view button.
Jordan, I can’t do this and its not fair of you to keep doing it to me, just stop K.
He gaped at it, lost for words.
