He could barely believe that he was talking to a cat, following one as though it knew where Mike was - that was even harder to swallow, and he cringed at the thought of what the guys would say if they knew he was doing this.
“Hey cat - wait up.” Joe grumbled.
The cat was hurrying up, leaving Joe behind.
The feline stopped and waited, then as soon as Joe had caught up, it hurried off again.
The hasty pace continued for blocks, Joe was utterly lost by now, and was forced to keep closer to the tabby since it seemed to be the only one who knew where it was going.
At last, the cat stopped in front of a darkened middle class house where it waited for Joe.
When he caught up again, the tabby rubbed itself against his legs.
“What do you want? What’s here? You know cat, I need to find Mike. I mean... He couldn’t have gone this far. Is this what you’re trying to do? Show me where Mike is? Mike couldn’t be this far away from home... Not when he’s like he is...” Joe found himself babbling, and when he did, he promptly shut his mouth, staring down at the cat that seemed to be listening.
It meowed.
“Yeah - meow - that’s your answer for everything!” Joe grumbled in frustration.
The cat didn’t seem to mind Joe’s outburst, it only meowed again and stood up on its hind legs, pawing Joe’s leg, only gently using its claws.
“Do you want up?” Joe asked.
The feline meowed.
“Okay... Okay...” Joe sighed and bent down, gently lifting the cat up and supporting it close to his chest.
Help me! Someone help!
The voice in Joe’s head sounded just like Mike.
“I’m gonna get done for trespassing, you realize that cat.” Joe whispered as he crept into the front yard.
His heart was pounding in his ears, but the sound of Mike’s voice was louder and Joe followed it, slipping around the side of the building to the back via a wooden gate that had a white cross painted on it.
He could hear Mike wailing for help, and Joe couldn’t help but start panicking - what the hell was happening?!
The cat meowed softly and struggled from Joe’s arms - landing lightly on the brown lawn, then it swiftly and noiselessly walked up to the door.
It turned its green eyes to Joe and waited for him.
Joe swallowed and mouthed that he could go to jail for this, but then followed the cat, walking up to the door.
Should I knock? Joe wondered.
The cat clawed his shins.
“Okay - okay I get the message!” Joe snapped in a whisper.
He took a deep breath and opened the door as quietly as he could, looking around the darkened hall.
The tabby slinked inside, hurrying down the corridor and waiting at a closed door.
Joe tentatively stepped forwards, looking around, knowing he was going to be in the deepest shit if someone found him.
Suddenly he was grabbed - a gag was rammed into his mouth - in a matter of moments he was tied down.
“What is he?” Someone asked.
“He’s an Inferior. Mongoloid type, probably Korean, possibly a hybrid, I won’t know until I can get him under some light.” Another voice said.
“Okay, let’s get him under some light then.” The first said.
Joe struggled violently, unable to scream, and finding himself, to his horror, unable to escape the two men, both of which looked just like white hoods in his dream.
He was dragged into another room, where bright lights were shone down on him.
“Okay... Now, he’s five foot or so, that’s about right for a Mongoloid...” The shorter man said, looking Joe’s overall body over and then inspecting his face. “His nose is right for a Mongoloid, underdeveloped brow ridge definitely... His eyes are right too. Teeth are pretty distinct as well. I think we’ve scored ourselves an Inferior, Gamma.”
Gamma smiled and pulled out a gun, handing it to the smaller man.
“Here Zeta, you do the honors.” Gamma smirked.
Zeta grinned and aimed the pistol at Joe’s head.
“Bye bye Inferior. Sorry you had to stumble on our little hideout.” Zeta laughed and pulled the trigger.
Joe bolted upright and looked out the window to the dawning day with terror pounding through his veins.
What was that about?
