Chapter Forty-Eight ~ Chaos
~*~*~*~
“Merry Christmas!” Yannick said as I let him into my apartment. He had a Santa hat on, causing me to giggle a bit.
“Merry Christmas Yannick!” I replied, closing the door behind him. I was feeling a bit let down this Christmas Eve, Michael told me the night before that he felt that it would best that I didn’t spend Christmas with his kids and family, and that tensions were high right now and he didn’t want me alone in that situation.
“Why such the sad face Chrissy?”
“Oh, I’m just upset that I can’t spend Christmas with Michael’s family or my own…this sucks…” I said, looking at Yannick.
"I’m sorry Crys,” Yannick said, pouting a bit.
“And the worst part about it is that Michael’s 3000 miles across the Atlantic and he can’t be here.”
“Hey, I got something that might cheer you up…how ‘bout some hot cocoa…” There was a knock at the door. I got up off the couch to go answer it.
“Hot cocoa? Yannick it’s 70 degrees outside…if I was back in North Dakota that might sound like a date…” I looked in the peep hole and saw it was Noemi, my neighbor from down the hall. I opened the door and she looked worried. Little Chance was with her as well.
“Crystal I need to talk with you…oh I’m sorry, was I interrupting something?” Noemi asked as her and her son walked in and saw Yannick.
“No actually, he just stopped by to wish me a Merry Christmas.”
“Um…well, um…I don’t how should go about this…” Her face was getting paler by the second.
“Noemi why don’t you sit down on the couch…”
“Look ma’am I’m sure whatever’s you need to say, you can say it in front of me. I might be able to help…” Yannick said seeing the distress on Noemi’s face. Once Noemi sat down she pluck something out of her coat and laid it out on the table. It was The GLOBE tabloid. The front read “Michael Jackson’s mysterious girl revealed…the inside scoop on the girl who stole MJ’s heart!” A tight ball formed in my stomach. I froze and I looked up at Yannick. The color in his face drained.
I turned back to the magazine and picked it up.
“Don’t! It’s disgusting…I’m gonna lose my job over this, but I don’t give a shit, you need to know…”
“Know what?”
“The Sunday after Christmas, this is what’s going to print. Chance told me everything and I’m shocked that they would go this far to get dirt on you! You’re a nice person, I was an apprentice for these guys, I can‘t believe they would even dare…”
“Well what does it say? You haven’t even let me read it…”
“Crystal, you don’t want to…they got your ex-fiance to do an exclusive on you…”
“They what!?!? That’s impossible!”
“Your fiancé’s named Jason right?”
“Well yes, but that doesn’t mean anything…”
“Jason Holden?” Noemi confirmed.
My heart leapt into my throat and my stomach sank at the same time.
"Look curiosity is getting to you, read it, but I warn you it’s not good.”
“Yannick you want to hand me the bottle of Jack from below and get me a glass.” I said as I sat down next to Noemi. Yannick returned with the bottle of Jack that he bought me a couple days ago and a three tall shot glasses.
“Chance, why don’t you go play games on my play station. It‘s in the bedroom.”
“Okay, um, thanks Crystal.” Chance said as he went to my bedroom. I poured myself some Jack in the cup and took a big swig. The whiskey burning all the way down. I opened the magazine and turned the article.
Michael Jackson’s mysterious lover revealed!
Sitting in the tiny bachelor apartment that Jason Holden used to share with his fiance Crystal Goetz, Jason spilled his guts about him and Crystal’s relationship. How they met at a tiny Bible College in North Dakota and how they started out as friends. It quickly became apparent that the relationship were becoming serious after Crystal spilled that she had a crush on Jason. Who at the time was only 18 and Crystal was 19 at the time.
“I knew when she said that she had a crush on me, that I could really see myself with her, protecting her, loving her.” Jason tells our insider. “I never meant to hurt her, but I can’t see her being happy with Michael.”
That’s right, Jason’s ex-fiance is now Michael Jackson’s new girlfriend.
“I knew that if I could just talk to Crystal, I could reason with her, that was before I found out she was sleeping with Michael. When I found out…I just lost it, and before I know it Michael’s in my face and he punched me.”
Q: How long were you and Crystal together for?
“Um…we started dating in October of 2006, so approximately a year.”
Q: When did you propose to her?
“November, a month after we started dating she told me no because it was too soon. I got so upset, but I tried a few weeks later and she said yes.
Q: When did things become serious for you two? Sexually.
“It was March during spring break. We were both virgins and the first time was really clumsy, I was practically begging her for it. When it happened I didn’t know what to do next…”
Q: So you weren’t married or anything?
“No, we were engaged. I made her feel like a queen, why she’d want to leave me, is beyond me.”
Q: Do you know that she met Michael?
“No, I was busy with work, busy with my life, I should’ve called her, yet she didn’t even bother to contact me either…”
Q: Did that ever cross your mind about why she didn’t contact you? I mean to me that would be something you’d want to tell everyone you know? That you met The King of Pop.
“Yeah, it crossed my mind but I figured she was having fun overseas. New experiences and all…”
Q: So do you think they’ve you know…had intimate relations?
“I know they have. Crystal told me that he was so much better in bed than I could ever be, so with that being said, I knew from the pictures I had seen they did…”
Q: Do you think she’s with him for the money?
“Well I think she did it to get back at me personally…but I wouldn’t put past Crystal to give herself away for money though."
I put down the article, tears in my eyes, feeling completely betrayed. I grabbed my glass and slammed the rest of the glass.
“Excuse me, I need to call Michael.” I said as I grabbed my phone but Noemi stopped me with a hand on my wrist.
“Crystal, don’t. Calm down first then call him. I told you it was disgusting article.”
“Yeah it’s all one sided, making me look like the bad guy. He had the fucking audacity to cheat on me while I was in Ireland! Then I found out the affair was going on for over a month and that he was paying his friends off so they wouldn’t say anything to me! I thought that I had given Michael an STD because the woman he was cheating on me with just happened to be the fucking town whore! Thank God I didn’t and that we are clean…but fuck that asshole! I’m glad I don’t have his fucking number anymore.”
“Look Crys, I’m gonna call Mike and let him know what happened, Noemi? When did you say that article was gonna be on shelves?” Yannick asked, his eyes meeting Noemi's. Meanwhile I pushed the tabloid to the side and stared at my now empty glass.
"Sunday.”
“Okay I’ll call Mike’s lawyers too and see what I can do about keeping them from putting that issue on the shelf.” Yannick said looking at me with apologetic eyes. He walked into the dining room and proceeded to call Michael. Meanwhile Noemi took my glass and went to get me another shot glass of Jack. She handed it to me along with a napkin. She brought me into a hug.
“What am I going to do, in less than a week my whole sex life is going to be broadcast to the whole world…my God my mom! She’ll kill me, if my dad finds out, he’ll make sure I’m dead and bury me where nobody will find me…God!” I said, crying even more as a buried my face in my hands. “How could Jason do this to me…”
“I’m sure he wanted money to compensate for the hurt he was feeling at the time…I mean people do some pretty foolish things when it comes to money.”
“Well this would account for the dumbest thing he’s ever done.” I said, with a little chuckle. I downed my glass of jack and set it on the coffee table. “Ooh.So Noemi how’d you get caught up with the Globe? How’d you stumble across this?” I asked as she poured another glass for me.
“Well I was dating with one of the editors and he got me a job there as an apprentice.” Noemi said as she took out a pack of Virginia Slims. “Is it okay if I smoke in here?”
“Yeah go ahead, as long as you give me one.” I said. I then took the cigarette and lighter she held out for me. I lit the abnormally long cigarette and took a long drag off it before handing Noemi her lighter back. She lit herself a cigarette and took a long drag off of it. Exhaling the smoke in her lungs.
“Aw…so you’re willing to give up your job for my dignity.”
“Of course, it was totally uncalled for, and you are a nice person, you don’t deserve this.”
“Do you happen to know a Lilith Chase?” I asked taking another drag of my cigarette.
“Oh yeah, she’s a real cocky British bitch that thinks she’s all that.”
“She wrote that article. That bitch has had it out for me since I flushed her phone down the toilet. She’s got a…what’s that word…”
“Vendetta?”
“Yeah, against me…”
“I don’t doubt it, she’s sent several people packing all because she didn’t like them. I don’t work in her department therefore I don’t have to deal with her, I just hear stories.” Noemi said taking another drag of her cigarette. Yannick came back into the living room.
“How’d that go?”
“Not good, Michael’s pissed, and Michael’s lawyers probabyly won't be able to do anything about it except file a defamation suit against the globe, which could take years…I would advise that you tell your parents that there’s a storm coming and to brace themselves.” Yannick said as his cell phone rang.
“That’s Michael, I’m gonna take this, I promised him that I would tell him what the article was about.” Yannick said taking the tabloid off the table. I took my cell phone and began dialing my mom’s phone number.
“Hey mom, we need to talk…”
*Later on that night…*
After telling my parents of the tabloid storm that was going to be surrounding me the next few weeks, they both promised they wouldn’t look at the stands and if anyone came to their house asking for an interview, they would refuse.
Yannick, Noemi and little Chance stayed for supper, in which I cooked Honey Mustard Chicken, steamed broccoli and parsley potatoes. After supper we talked a little about what my parents said and about the defamation suit that would be filed the next morning by Michael’s lawyers along with a gag order and a cease and desist.
At around eight o’ clock Noemi left, and Yannick left soon after. Leaving me alone with my thoughts. I began to clean up around my kitchen and get all the dishes together when my cell phone began to vibrate in my pocket. I glanced at the number to see that it was Michael, I pushed the send button.
“Hey baby, how are you.”
“I wish I was better, why didn’t you call me when you found this out?”
“Because I was so angry, Noemi stopped me from calling you because she was afraid I was going to freak out and yell at you…”
“Okay, I understand…baby I’m so sorry.” I started to tear up when he said that.
“It’s okay Michael, I mean you are the biggest celebrity on the face of the planet. You know, it was only a matter of time…”
“I know, but this fame I have is a curse, an dreaded curse that I wish upon nobody. I have no privacy when I go out to even do the simplest of errands…it’s sad…people make up vicious rumors and people spill personal details about your life…you don’t know who to trust.”
“I’m coming to find that out the hard way.” I said, beginning the water for my dishes.
“All I wanted to do was protect you from this and it’s backfired on me…”
“Michael don’t blame yourself for this. It was my fault for even thinking I could trust Jason.” I said, pouring the Dawn dish soap into the hot water. “Promise me you won’t beat yourself up over this, because we both know damn good and well that this was going to happen eventually. Okay?”
“I promise baby, ooh before I forget, what were you planning on doing for New Years Eve…”
“Um probably go to bed early, why?”
“Would you like to go to New York City and see the ball drop?”
“Well I would love to, I’ve always wanted to go…”
“Good, I’ll get your tickets set up tonight…”
“What about you baby…what are your plans?” I stopped the water in the sink and turned around and lean against the counter.
“Oh that, um…well we’re running a bit behind on the album…”
“So you won’t be there?” I said my heart sinking into the pit of my stomach.
“Unfortunately not. I’m sorry baby. Yannick and Wayne will be there though…”
“But it won’t be the same Michael,” I said, sounding really disappointed.
“I know, but I think you’ll enjoy New York it’ll get you out that apartment of yours.”
“I know, but I really wish you could be here so we can kick off the New Year right…”
“Try not to think about that, okay baby? I’ll be there with you in spirit.”
“Okay, I really miss you baby.”
“I miss you too baby girl. We’ll see each other soon enough okay?
“Okay, like I really have a choice right?” I said giggling a little bit and turning back around and sticking some of the dishes into the sink.
“Right. Look, when I do get to come back home I swear I’ll make it up to you okay?”
“Okay, how was your day, besides being completely ruined by news of an impending tabloid storm?” I asked, cleaning the pan that I cook the chicken in.
“Well, my afternoon has been pretty busy…but we’ll get through this baby, it’s you that I’m worried the most about. I mean the article goes into territory that’s reserved for a smut magazine. It’s clearly an invasion of privacy and enough for a defamation lawsuit.”
“But that could take years Michael…”
“I know but it’s better than laying back and letting this…Lilith Chase woman walk all over us and letting her write whatever the hell she pleases…”
“You’re right Michael…”
“I mean your whole sex life with Jason and I is in this article for people willing to buy this.”
“You’re right, tell your lawyer to go through with it…hey what is that thing called…where they can rip something out of circulation…is it a cease and desist?”
“Yeah…yeah! I think you’re onto something, I’ll find out what we can do…I didn’t even think about that.”
“Yeah, you talk to them about it, I’m gonna finish my dishes here.”
“Alright baby, hey I’ll call you later on tonight, where something sexy…”
“Okay baby, I love you.”
“Love you too, talk to you later.”
“Yep, bye.”
“Bye.”
I pressed the end button on my cell phone and continued to do the dishes. Suddenly feeling depressed. I didn’t know what to expect in New York, a feeling of dread came over me thinking about it and I stopped doing dishes. I grabbed the remainder of the Jack Daniels and guzzled it a bit before putting the cap on it nearly choking on the hearty whiskey. I looked at the cabinet holding with the rest of the alcohol which consisted of Bacardi, X-Rated, 99 Bananas, 99 Strawberries, 99 Oranges, 99 Peaches, Tequila Rose, Peach, Peppermint, and Butter Schnapps, Chocolate Liqueur, Kahlua, Petron, Grand Marnier, and Triple Sec. I wasn’t allowed to go into this cabinet until I was officially 21. I was a good girl, but tonight was the exception. Looking at the bottle of Jack and seeing that I was running low on alcohol, I went and found the key to the alcohol cabinet and opened it and grabbed the Bacardi out. I then went to the fridge and took out a can of Pepsi and made a strong mix using the rest of the JD and a little Bacardi with topped it off with the Pepsi. I then threw away the empty bottle of Jack Daniels. I took the cocktail into the living room where I drank it, and fell into a drunken slumber.
