*Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding*
My eyes fluttered open and shot up off the couch.
“I’m coming!!” I screamed as I held my head ran to the door. I opened the door and was met by a man in a Santa costume he was carrying about four gifts stacked neatly on top of each other. I was taken a back a bit. It took me most of myself restraint not to laugh at the poor fool.
“Um…can I help you?”
“Crystal, it’s me Wayne. Let me in before someone sees me.” I opened the door a bit more and Wayne came in, as I was closing the door, I saw another Santa coming so I kept the door open allowing them to come in. I was guessing they were Michael’s numerous body guards and staff. As soon as I was sure that the line of people ended, I closed the door and turned around to see Janet, Prince, Paris, Blanket, Grace, Wayne, Yannick, Jermaine, Rebbie, Tito, and Marlon taking off their Santa suits and setting down the gifts around the couch.
“There’s my future sister-in-law! Merry Christmas.” Janet said, as she came up to hug me.
“Janet! Oh my goodness, I had no idea that you guys were coming over!” I then realized I probably was a mess. “Oh my goodness, I’m a mess, let me just…” I couldn’t even finish my sentence before Janet hugged me.
“So you’re the girl who stole my brother’s heart…” Rebbie said, as she squeezed me. “I can’t believe that I didn’t know that he was even engaged until last week…”
“L…last week?” I asked as I dislodged from Rebbie. “You mean the kids have been silent about it?”
“Yeah! Not a peep until Michael called and made the announcement, then he gave us ideas about what to get you for Christmas. Surprise! Merry Christmas! Future sister-in-law.” Tito said as he gave me hug.
“Wow, this was so unexpected…here I thought I was going to spend Christmas alone!” I said feeling flabbergasted. Rebbie and Janet took some dishes out of bags that were placed on the counter while I was busy letting everyone in earlier. I glanced at the clock, it was 12:57pm. It was nearly one in the afternoon, now I really felt stupid and my head was pounding from my hangover.
“Can I help you guys in anyway?”
“Oh no Crystal, we got this…ever had cornbread stuffing?” Janet said, as she was finding outlets for the three crock pots they brought over.
“Um…no, I’m sure it’s good.”
“It’s world famous…here try some.” Janet said taking a spoon out of the drawer and dipping in a casserole dish. She handed it to me and I ate it. It was delicious. Best stuffing I had ever had.
“Ooh that was delicious.”
“I know right?” Janet said, chuckling.
“This is just so unexpected…what has Michael said about me?”
“Well he’s happy for the first time in a long time, and he says he owes it all to you. He’s told mother everything about you, from how the two of you met to where you are from…and I have to say, you sound absolutely charming child…” Rebbie said as she came up and hugged me again.
“Okay I think I got everything set up, should we call everyone in?” Janet asked, looking at Rebbie who was sitting in the dining room.
“Yes.” Rebbie said as she patted the seat next to her and looked at me.
“Come girl, I would like to get to know my future sister-in-law better.”
After a fulfilling meal of turkey, ham, cornbread stuffing, candied yams, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, and homemade dinner rolls, and light hearted conversation. We all filed into living room, where everyone had a choice of lemon meringue, sweet potato, apple or cherry pie to choose from. I chose a small slice of lemon meringue and sweet potato pie, it was served with vanilla ice cream and there were glasses of champagne served.. It was delicious to say the least.
“Okay it’s gift opening time.” Rebbie said, as she sat down next to Janet on the couch athwart from me.
“Okay, are these all mine?”
“Of course, Michael told us to spoil you, there’s a few from him too, you know, before he left for Ireland.”
“Ah…I love that man, I swear.” I said, looking down at the vast amount of presents lying at my feet. “Let get this party started!” I said as I grabbed the first present off the floor.
*Friday, December 28th*
After receiving the flight itinerary in the mail on Wednesday, I was sitting at LAX waiting for the boarding announcement to come on the overhead. Yannick and Wayne were going with me and were sitting on either side of me.
“Are you excited for New York?” Wayne asked, digging into his deli sandwich.
“Oh yeah, it’ll be the first time I’m ever going there for leisure and not just traveling.” I said taking a sip of my caramel macchiato.
“You brought winter gear right? I mean it ain’t going to be no 67 degrees when we get out of the airport there you realize.” Yannick asked, his eyes meeting mine.
“I realize that, I’ve got a winter coat packed.”
“Good, cause I forgot to pack one…”
“Yanny! You didn’t…”
“I did, I just now realized it.”
“I’ll check the temperature there in NYC.” I opened up the weather app on my new phone and saw that it was supposed to be in the 20s there.
“You might want to buy a jacket at the airport, it’s supposed to get down into the single digits when we arrive.”
“Flight 352 leaving for New York City is now open for boarding.”
“Ooh that’s us.” Wayne said as he got up from the seat and grabbed his bag. I put my cell phone back in my pocket and grabbed my bag as well. Yannick followed suit. We all got onto the plane, I was excited to go to New York.
*Five hours later*
All three of us got off the plane with our carry-ons and we stopped by a clothing store where Yannick bought a winter coat. We went to Enterprise and rented a 2008 Black Cadillac Escalade. We walked out to the parking space where it was located and hopped in. Yannick gave Wayne a funny look.
“Dude why do you always get to drive?”
“Because I know my way around New York dude…” Wayne said throwing back the informal term. “And because I’m your boss too.”
“Woah I didn’t know that!” I said, looking at Wayne. “You’re Yanny’s boss?”
“Yeah, I’m head of security. You didn’t know that?” Wayne said, a curious look on his face. I shook my head. He then turned his attention to starting the Escalade.
“Hell no, Michael doesn’t tell me these things…ooh look! Heated seats!” I said as I turned them on the moment that Wayne started the luxurious SUV.
“Yeah, this things fully loaded…” He then pointed to a panel on the dash that turned on when he turned on the Escalade. “…we got GPS, heated seats, digital sound, a CD player that can also play music from your I-Pod or Mp3 player, auto-start, DVD player in the backseats…and other goodies…” Wayne said, driving out of the parking space and driving out of the parking lot.
“So, where are we going to sleep tonight?” I asked looking at Wayne.
“It's called the Mark…the locale is just perfect, you can see Central Park from our room…”
“Huh? You mean we have reservations?”
“Yep for two suites, a one bedroom for you and a two bedroom for us.”
“Oh cool…do I dare ask if it's been paid for?” I asked cringing in my seat.
“It’s all taken care of dear. I think you’ll like it. Have you stayed there?” Wayne said, glancing at me then turning his gaze back on the road.
“Can’t say that I have.”
“Well…this will be a new experience now won’t it?” I said looking at Yannick.
“Oh yeah, but don’t worry about anything Crys, this is meant to be a vacation for you. Perhaps when we get to the room we can see what they have for the way of shopping.”
“Shopping? Okay…”
“See, I told you you’d have fun.” Wayne said, looking at me. When I arrived at my room I went to the window and it was just as Wayne said, I got a spectacular of Central Park from 12th Story room. The trees were flocked with a light layer of snow, I stepped out onto the balcony, the chilly winter air chilling me to the bone. I lit a cigarette and exhaled the harsh mentholated smoke that entered my lungs. I smoked my cigarette taking in the sites of the metropolitan city. It was so different from my rural roots. Finishing my cigarette I put it out on the railing before flicking it out to the street below. I changed into black jeans and a red turtleneck sweater. I was touching up my makeup when there was a knock on the door. I finished up, and walked to the door and peeked through the peephole to see that Wayne was on the other side.
“Crystal are you ready to go shopping?” I shrugged and grabbed my purse on the table nearby. “Yeah lets go.” I said taking out my large sunglasses and putting them on my face. We stopped by Ralph Lauren, Chanel, and Gucci which were just walking distance from the hotel. I picked up a beautiful navy blue mini-dress, new shoes for the dress, a bottle of Chanel perfume, and a couple of outfits I liked from Ralph Lauren. Bags in hand we went back to the hotel.
The next couple of days went by like that, shopping, looking at a few wedding boutiques, hitting one of New York’s wonderful museums.
On New Years' Eve, I woke up stretching, feeling completely rested. I got up to see that something was out of place with the room. I walked into the kitchenette to see a large bouquet of red roses. With the roses there was a note. I opened up the note.
‘Good Morning,
Meet me down at the dining room for dinner around 7:00 pm tonight, be sure to wear your finest outfit.’
There was no name on the card, or anything. I didn’t even recognize the writing. It baffled me. I called Wayne and Yannick’s room and asked if they knew anything about it. They had no idea who could’ve called the flowers up to the room. I called down to the front desk and asked the receptionist to describe the man who had left the flowers. She described a white man with a mustache, salt and pepper hair. I didn’t know who that was except maybe my father but he was more gray now than salt and pepper and one more detail, really nice brown eyes. That could be anyone. I didn’t know.
I chose a royal blue halter mini dress with black pumps along with the treble clef necklace with black beaded bracelets. Placing them on the bed for later on tonight, I picked up the phone and called up room service, ordering a bagel with fat-free cream cheese and a bowl of fruit. Within twenty minutes I was munching down on a small bunch of grapes. On the television were re-runs of Law and Order: SVU. I finished my breakfast and called Wayne and Yannick’s room and told them of the flowers and note that I got and asked them once again if they knew anything. They didn’t unfortunately telling me they didn’t know anymore than what I told them earlier. So I just watched TV and made myself some cocktails at the bar that was provided in my room.
I glanced at the clock and saw that it was 5:30pm so I grabbed my outfit and jewelry and placed the outfit in the bathroom and hopped in the shower. After a relaxing shower I spritz some “Glow” by J-lo all over my body. Then put a black lace thong on and a black push-up bra. Then I put the dress on along with the black pumps. I put my jewelry on then began to blow-dry and fix my hair. After I was satisfied with my hair, I started on my make-up. When I was finished, I gave myself another once over in the full length mirror in my room, then glanced at the time. 6:49pm. I then called Wayne and let him know that I was leaving my room to go downstairs. He met me at my door and walked me down to the lobby. When I entered the restaurant Wayne left my side and allowed me to check in with the maitre d.
“Aw yes, Miss. Goetz, your party is here and waiting for you, allow me to escort you to the table.” The maitre d said when I told him my name. He walked me back to a private section of the restaurant where to my surprise, Michael was sitting in a red silk long sleeve shirt and black slacks. His hair was tied back in a ponytail. My heart leapt in my chest and I couldn’t hold my excitement any longer.
“Michael! Oh my God!”
“Crystal! Baby!” Michael said shooting out of his seat to meet me in a hug.
“Oh God, I’ve missed you so much. I had to come back and see you for New Years, I’ve been away from you for over a month and I can’t go without you that long.” Michael said, squeezing me. When we pulled apart he captured my lips in a heated kiss and I wrapped my arms around his waist and held him close to me. He continued our passionate lip lock until Michael pulled away breathless. “If I don’t stop, we’ll end up in a sticky predicament. We’ll continue this much later tonight.” Michael pulled out my chair and allowed me to sit before taking his seat across from me.
“I can’t wait. God I’ve missed you so much, I was wondering if I’d ever see you again.” I said, my eyes meeting his. He placed his hand, palm up, on the table and I gladly placed my hand in his.
“Baby, I’m sorry for my absence, I know it must be hard on you…it’s been hard on me, I can’t stop thinking about you, I wonder what you’re doing all the time, and it’s hard cause you’re not completely transparent on the phone with me…”
“I know I’m horrible at that, I’m paranoid that someone listening in or the lines been tapped.” I said, admitting to my own paranoia.
“That’s good though, because I’ve had my phones tapped, and people listen in on my conversations. It’s not fun this is the life we’ll be living. You’re fears are not silly ones, as I always say, the bigger the star the bigger the target.” Michael said, his eyes not leaving mine. God I missed this man. Just then our waitress came up and took our order.
“Good Evening my name is Julia and I’ll be your server tonight, can I get either one of you anything to drink?”
“Yes, I would like a bottle of your finest champagne. Please.” Michael said as he took the menu from the waitress as I took the one she handed me.
“I must tell you Mr. Jackson that our finest champagne is over $900 a bottle.”
“I’m sparing no expense.” Michael said simply as he looked at the menu.
“Yes sir, I’ll be back with the bottle of champagne.” Julia said, as she walked out of the VIP lounge.
“990 Dollars? I sure in the hell hope you get to keep the bottle and glasses for that price.”
“Oh you will…trust me. If I didn’t think you were worth it I wouldn’t have bought it.” Michael said his eyes meeting mine from his menu and giving me a playful wink. I blushed and opened up my menu.
“Can I just get an entrée?”
“No silly, how about this, you choose the appetizer and we’ll both share it.” A small smile came upon my lips.
“Okay baby,” He smiled at me.
“I love it when you call me that.”
“What? Baby?”
“Yeah, it’s so endearing.”
“Well I hope so, I love it when you call me honey.”
“I’ll be sure to do it more often then honey.” We both laughed. Julia then came back with a tray and ice container for the champagne as she set two gold champagne flutes in front of both Michael and I.
“Are these…”
“Real gold? Yes. You are more than welcome to keep them too along with the bottle of champagne.” Julia said as she began to opening the bottle.
“Why thank you…”
“Not a problem, for 990 dollars a bottle you’ve got to be able to keep the flute that you drink it in too you know?” Julia said as she began loosening the cork. “I hate opening these bottles cause…OOH!” Julia screamed jumping as the cork shot out and hit the ceiling. Michael and I busted out laughing as I tried to catch the cork, failing miserably. The cork bounced off the table and landed in Michael’s lap. Michael blushed, and handed the cork to Julia.
“Thank you.” Julia said grabbing the cork from Michael then pouring the champagne in our flutes. Julia placed the champagne in the ice container and wrapped a towel around it.
“Well that was interesting, anyway, are you guys ready to order?” Julia asked, looking down at Michael and I.
“Sure, we’ll take the seafood platter to start off with then I’ll have the Scottish Salmon then for dessert I would like to have the Caramelized Apple Tart.” Michael said handing his menu back to Julia who gratefully took it.
“And for you ma’am?”
“Um, I’ll have a Caesar salad, Grilled Lamb Chops and for dessert I’ll finish with the Grand Marnier Chocolate Chip Soufflé.” I said feeling satisfied with my choices.
“Excellent choices you two, I’ll be back with your appetizer in just a moment.” Julia said as she left to go put in our order.
“You look absolutely breathtaking tonight, are you excited?”
“Oh yeah, I can’t believe I’m here and you’re here with me…it’s so perfect!” I said taking a sip of my champagne. The champagne was the best I had ever tasted. Definitely worth the price. I held the bubbly beverage in my mouth, savoring the different tastes before swallowing it. “Ooh, that’s delicious…” Michael picked up his glass, and took a sip.
“I knew you’d like it. So after dinner you want to try to hit Times Square and catch the ball drop?”
“Yes! Hopefully you’ve got disguises for the both of us…”
“Of course.” Michael said, his eyes meeting mine.
After a very fulfilling meal, Michael paid the enormous tab and we walked hand in hand out the back way out of the restaurant, walking through the kitchen and taking an elevator that was reserved for employees taking up room service carts. I was leaning up against the wall of the elevator facing the doors when Michael entered. I set down the bag with our leftovers and champagne flutes. He pressed the ‘close doors’ button and kept walking up to me, hunger in his eyes. Michael didn’t stop until he had pinned my body against his. I was about to say something when his hot lips met mine. We kissed each other passionately as the elevator began to go up to the top floor. Michael’s lips left mine and began kissing my neck when he lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist.
“Hm. You’re lighter than I remember you being…”
“Is that a good thing?”
“It’s a very good thing, I can do this now.” He then reached over and pressed the ‘stop’ button on the elevator and the elevator stopped in between the forth and fifth floors. Michael then went back to kissing my neck. He began to grind himself into me as his hands took possession of my breasts. Just as Michael was going to undo my halter a voice boomed in the intercom.
“Hi, we need to use the elevator. Can you please go up to your room and send it down please.” Michael started laughing.
“Sure thing, sorry.” Michael said as he let go of me and let me get down. He drew me in a hug.
“Fucking you in an elevator isn’t my thing, but you look so irresistible, I thought we might get away with it.” Michael said, kissing the top of my forehead.
“Have you ever?”
“No, you would’ve been my first, if it had been successful but we have all night.”
“What time is it anyway?”
“Nine-thirty…night is still very young my dear.” Michael said bringing me to his side. We got to the top floor and got off and walked to my room. Michael took a key out of his pocket and opened my door.
“When did you get here baby?”
“I got in yesterday.”
“You could’ve seen me…”
“Oh but I did see you…you just didn’t see me.” Michael said, bringing me out onto the balcony. Michael brought his lips to my ear “See that window right across from yours.” Michael whispered seductively in my ear.
“Mmhm…what about it?” I replied my tone hinting with seduction as well.
“I stayed there last night, I was watching you smoke your cigarette, fantasizing about touching you…and…kissing you…”
“And?” I said turning around to face him.
“And…do you happen to have a cigarette my love?” I playfully smacked him.
“Yes. Let me go get my purse.” I said kissing his lips quickly before going back into the living room and grabbing my purse. I placed my jacket on and went back onto the balcony. I dug my cigarettes out. I grabbed two and handed one to Michael. I lit our cigarettes and we smoked together, cuddling and hugging each other. I finished my cigarette before Michael did, and I was waiting for him to finish. There was a knock at the door. Michael nodded toward the door.
“I’ll finish this if you get the door. I have a feeling that it’s the stylist and Wayne with my luggage.”
“Okay sexy.” I said walking back inside and answering the door. Sure enough it was as Michael said. A stylist with some clothes, a make-up artist with her suitcase and Wayne with Michael’s luggage. Michael soon was at my side, holding me close to him.
“Hey Mike, how was dinner?”
“It was wonderful. Still a bit buzzed from the champagne though.”
“Oh that good huh?”
“Oh yeah.” Michael said, looking at me and winking.
“Okay Michael, I have your outfit and here is yours Crystal.” The stylist said as she handed us our outfits. I looked at it mortified.
