Celebs featured: Jojo Levesque, Hayley Williams
Jojo joined Hayley for a viewing of the 1989 Pet Sematary movie, which Jojo had never seen. Hayley got comfortable in an undershirt and panties and told Jojo about how, when she was a kid, she would spend Saturday nights at her grandparents’ apartment watching horror movies with her grandfather. Then they’d run around the place looking for ghosts. For this reason, she fondly remembers the original 1989 Pet Sematary movie that she saw when she was about 8. Jojo then asked if Hayley had seen the trailer for the remake.
“I have,” Hayley stated, “but I’m tempted to reject the remake on principle.”
Hayley had one of those “Not my childhood!” moments when an inevitable goddamned remake was announced for Pet Sematary.
Jojo remarked, “Even if it’s good? Because the trailer is really good.”
“I’m sure there’s a possibility that the movie will turn out good. But without the motivation to make a quick buck, why bother doing a remake?”
Hayley started the movie and got settled in, her hands clasped over her stomach as the opening credits played. But as soon as “Screenplay by Stephen King” appeared, Jojo got up, took the remote, and paused it.
“Yeah, I see why they’re remaking this.”
Hayley was indignant, “Excuse me?”
“Listen, this is one of the few Stephen King adaptations I haven’t seen. But based on the ones I have seen, especially those written by Stephen King himself, that might as well have said ‘slow pace and corny moments brought to you by Stephen King’. He can write a book, but not a screenplay.”
“That is not true. He’s had some great movies.”
“Not the ones with his screenplays, like Maximum Overdrive, Sleepwalkers, or the Shining miniseries.”
“There was a Shining miniseries?”
“Oh yeah. He hated the Kubrick movie so much that I guess he wanted to make his own version, which I only recommend if you thought the Kubrick movie should’ve been boring and had terrible CGI. Face it, Hayley. Stephen King stories have had just as many bad adaptations as good ones, possibly more.”
Hayley sat up, “So you’re defending the remake?”
“I’m defending the idea that a remake can sometimes be a good thing. If you remake something bad, for example, you’d have to try really hard to make it anything but better than the original. Look at the IT movie. The miniseries isn’t exactly timeless, but the movie was way better than it had any right to be. Heck, the IT movie came out the same year as The Dark Tower, and I would not complain if someone remade that.”
Hayley agreed, “Oh yeah, totally. I’d be fine if someone did a remake of a bad movie to improve on it, but that’s not how Hollywood does remakes.”
“True. Then again, sometimes Hollywood remakes something that’s good, but kind of dated. That’s a strategy I can get behind. In fact, you should try that.”
Hayley glared at Jojo, giving her a judgmental look.
“So you don’t wanna watch this?”
Jojo lay back down on the bed next to Hayley.
“If it’s fine by you, I’d rather just fuck.”
Hayley smiled and held Jojo’s face in her hands.
“All you had to do was ask.”
