Ch 5- I’m not dramatic!
“I hate paperwork!” Deveraux mumbled as she leafed through the piles of it on her desk. Orlando thought he was helping her by telling Johnny how to fill out the paperwork. Well he didn’t help he only made it worse and she didn’t have the heart to tell him. So she had put labels on all the missed slots and delivered it Johnny personally asking him not to tell Orlando. Johnny had laughed but agreed to keep the secret. Now she was getting paperwork ready for Piper to fill out. All her job consisted of was paperwork. If she got any more paper cuts she was quitting on grounds of abuse!!!
“Gore Verbinski’s Office. How may I help you?” Deveraux said after picking up the ringing phone.
“May I speak with Orlando Bloom? I can’t seem to get his cell.” The English voice on the other end asked politely.
“I’m very sorry, ma’am but he is filming today. I can take a message if you like.” She said taking up pad and pen. She near dropped the receiver when she heard the reply.
“You must be Deveraux.” Deveraux sat silently in confusion for a few moments then answered.
“Yes I am. How may I ask do you know this?” She said. The woman laughed softly.
“I am Samantha, Orlando’s older sister. He told me you have an attractive accent.”
“Did he say I have an attractive anything else? Oh. my. God..... Tell me I didn’t just say that!” she said hitting herself on the forehead. Again the friendly laughter filled the line.
“He did say you were a bit dramatic at times and interesting. Very interesting. He also said that you were avoiding him. Is that true?” Deveraux gave an offended gasp.
“I’m not dramatic!!!! No I wasn’t avoiding him. I’m just busy! Dramatic! I can’t believe he said that!” Deveraux huffed indignantly.
“Do you like him?” Sam asked.
“Yes he is very nice.” Raux replied nervously.
“I don’t mean like that. I mean do you find yourself attracted to him? Is that why you run from him? You can tell me I promise not to tell.” Sam coaxed.
“No! I don’t!! Who could like him, with that smile and those eyes? puh-leeeeze! I don’t think so!” Deveraux answered vehemently, then she slammed her head down on her desk. Disbelieving she was such a spastic idiot.
“No I don’t see how anyone could. With all those things wrong with him.” Sam said dryly.
“Yes glad you understand!” She said listening to the hoots of laughter on the phone. She glared down at it.
“I have to get back to work, now so can I take a message or not Miss Bloom?” Deveraux said somewhat angrily. The laughter slowed to giggles and an answer was given.
“Yes, and please call me Sam, we’ll talk again.”
“Alright Sam, what’s your message I’ll make sure he gets it!” Deveraux said smiling slightly. Sam was a lot like her brother, friendly and warm. It was truly hard to be angry with someone who was as nice as her.
“Tell him to watch out that his ex has been sniffing around. He’ll know whom I mean. Okay? You’ll make sure he gets that one?” Deveraux quickly jotted the message.
“Yes he’ll get it!” She assured Sam, who laughed.
“Okay. Well it was really nice to talk to you and tell Orlando that I send my love. Bye!!” Sam said hanging up with a laugh. She shook her head, Orlando hadn’t lied she was interesting and most definitely dramatic. Smiling she called her mother.
“Bye.” Deveraux mumbled, replacing the receiver. She really hoped Sam wouldn’t tell Orlando about that conversation. If she did Deveraux would wander into a busy street and put a stop to the never-ending cycle of humiliation that was her life. She wasn’t dramatic! Grumbling quietly she gather up the paperwork she had been working on. As she headed out the door the phone rang again.
“Doesn’t anyone have anything better to do?” she complained picking up the phone.
“Gore Verbinski’s office.” She said impatiently.
“Hello, I have a gentleman out here who says he was invited to visit by one Orlando Bloom. Can he come out?” the guard. Deveraux gave a frustrated groan. She didn’t know if he could! Oh well let Orlando get in trouble! It would serve him right after the set down Gore had given her about the unfinished paperwork.
“Yes, bring him to the office and I’ll lead him to the set.” She said and hung up the phone. Five minutes later she was standing outside the office when the golf cart pulled up. Sighing loudly she made her way down the steps to greet him.
“Hello. How are you?” she asked when she stood before him. She wasn’t surprised at all to see Elijah Wood standing there. She figured eventually she’d be seeing one of them.
“Hi! I’m great! Are you the one who is taking me to the set?” Elijah asked warmly taking her hand.
“Yes. I’m glad you’re well. Now if you’ll follow me I’ll take you to it.” she said after the introductions was done.
“Lead the way!” Smiling Deveraux started towards the set. On the way Elijah rambled on about how excited he had been when Orlando had called and asked him to visit. Exclaiming that it had been ages since he’d seen his friend. When they reached it, she of course warned him to be quiet. They walked slowly through the set. Everything was fine until Deveraux spotted Orlando. Oh how nice he looked, that fierce expression on his face. She stood staring ,practically drooling, until she was nearly run over by an extra. She ended up dropping the papers she was holding. They landed with a resounding smack !
“Shit!!!” she cried softly scooping up the papers, and heading for the make up trailers moving stealthy between and behind crew. She heard Gore’s angry shouts.
“Who was that?” he raged. The crew shrugged and went back to work.
“What is it?” Piper asked when Deveraux slammed the door. She shook her head and peeked out the door
“Do you have any cookies, Piper?” She asked looking over at her friend. Piper was everything she was not. Piper was tall, willowy; her figure was amazing though she often complained about not having the assets that Deveraux had. Piper was also out going and friendly, she would talk to a post not caring that it couldn’t reply! Deveraux truly wished she were Piper.
“What’s happened this time?” Piper demanded motioning for Deveraux to sit across from her. Deveraux flopped down into the make-up chair and dropped her head into her hands.
“Everything!!!!” She groaned. Chuckling Piper moved to stand beside her.
“That bad huh? Tell me about it.” Piper encouraged, stroking her back comfortingly. Taking a deep breath Deveraux went into the whole big long story. Time slipped by without either realizing it. Deveraux shot to her feet as the trailer door was jerked open, and in piled Orlando and his friend. She was about out the other door when her name was called out.
“DEVERAUX!!!” Orlando cried happily and she soon found herself wrapped in his long armed embrace. Deveraux waited for her thoughts to jumble and when it didn’t happen she grinned at Piper.
“I have conquered it!!! He has no effect on me!!!!” She thought in jubilation, then he planted a big wet kiss on her cheek and her mind went blank.
“I didn’t see you this morning.” Orlando said, squeezing her.
“That’s because my clock is broken and I slept late.” Deveraux grumbled. Orlando grinned.
“ I thought you were late but after last night. I thought it best to let you alone” He said receiving curious looks from the others.
“We got drunk and had wild passionate sex.” Deveraux replied, before thinking. Groaning inwardly, she closed her eyes.
“You did not just say that!” Her mind moaned embarrassedly. Deveraux felt Orlando’s laughter rumbling against her back and relaxed. Piper was staring dumbfounded at Deveraux. Grinning sheepishly Deveraux stepped away from Orlando.
“I have a message from your sister. She said your ex…….has been sniffing around so be careful.” She said turning towards him. He sat down and frowned.
“Thanks. Did she say anything else?” he asked solemnly. Deveraux shook her head.
“Only that she sends her love.” She replied leaving out the fact that he had called her dramatic. Orlando grinned and looked slightly relieved. They all sat in silence for a moment then Piper spoke.
“About that blind date. John will pick you up at about seven, so I’ll come over about five thirty and help you get ready.” She said to a slightly embarrassed Deveraux.
“Alright. “ Deveraux replied hurriedly, hoping that topic would change but Orlando picked it up immediately.
“You have a blind date?” He asked. Sighing Deveraux nodded.
“That’s wonderful! When is it?” He inquired, scratching his chin. Momentarily distracted by her train of thought, Raux didn’t hear the question.
“Such nice hands. Wonder what they feel like.” Raux thought. She could just imagine, them gliding over her skin. Her spine tingled just thinking about it, and she trembled, those hands would know exactly where to touch, to tease. They would know exactly how to make her writhe with need. She wanted those hands on her, desperately. Raux was snapped out of her thoughts when Piper nudged her.
“Raux? Deveraux!” Piper said, elbowing her in the ribs. Raux jerked visibly, and turned to blink at Piper.
“What?” Deveraux asked, frowning. Piper laughed and looked her in the eyes.
“You zoned out for a minute there. What happened?” She asked, laughing slightly.
“ I was thinking about what to wear Friday.” Raux said, not about the reveal the she was fantasizing about Orlando again. Suddenly Elijah stepped forward.
“So you are The Deveraux...? I’ve heard quite a bit about you.” He revealed, looking her over.
“The Deveraux?” She questioned, with a raised brow. Elijah laughed and nodded. Deveraux glanced back at Orlando who was sprawled in the makeup chair.
“So… what’d you hear about me?” She asked, looking back at Elijah. Orlando hopped up from the chair.
“You girls are on lunch too aren’t you?” He asked, from behind Deveraux. Piper was quick to answer.
“Yes we are.” She said with a nod and delighted grin.
“Great you ladies can come to lunch with us!” He said exuberantly. Deveraux really didn’t want to. Last night she had spent the entire night trying not to look like a pig in front of him and Johnny. She had still been hungry when they came so she had waited until Orlando went to bed and snuck her cookies into her room. She wasn’t going to do it for lunch as well.
“Oh, I’m sorry ya’ll but I can’t. I have tons and tons of paperwork. Sorry. Piper get those papers back to me A.S.A.P.” She said, and practically ran out of the trailer. No more than ten feet from the building when she was caught from behind.
“Come to lunch with us, please? It’ll be fun! All you do is work, and hour out of your day won’t put you too far behind. Besides if you don’t take a lunch, you’ll be sneaking cookies into your desk instead of your room.” Orlando said in amusement. Deveraux was mortified. Orlando continued his plea.
“Come on Raux. Please? An hour that’s all I ask, then you can go back to work. Please don’t leave me with Piper and Elijah by myself. Please I’ll pay for your food. I’ll do anything! Please?!” He said, squeezing her.
“Anything?” She murmured to herself and thought of all the possibilities of have him under her will. Deveraux was about to give in, when her name was shouted.
“Deveraux, You’ll have to take a late lunch. I have some work I need your help with. Come to the office when you’re done with Orlando.” Gore called, and left the set. Deveraux didn’t know whether to kiss Gore or shoot him. She felt Orlando slump and turned to give him an apologetic smile.
“See? Work.” She said. Orlando nodded and smiled slightly.
“Hey you guys coming?” Piper called from the steps.
“Yeah!” Orlando called back; he gave her hand a gentle squeeze and turned to leave.
“I’ll bring you back a cookie.” He said smiling back at her.
“Thanks. Have a good time.” She muttered, as he walked back to the pair on the steps. Deveraux watched Piper grin and give her a energetic wave. Waving back slowly Raux turned and hauled herself up to the office.
“Is that you Deveraux?” Gore called, through the open door of his office.
“Yes, sir.” She responded dejectedly and went into the office.
