Kyo woke early the next morning and quietly slipped out of the room so as not to wake the still sleeping Kaoru. It was only seven o’clock in the morning, but the vocalist’s mind was uneasy and refused to let him sleep peacefully. Last night replayed in his mind like a silent movie and the thought of what he was yet to face made his stomach twist uncomfortably. He had the distinct feeling that breaking up with Tetsuya wasn’t going to go well. The clock ticked painfully, grating on Kyo’s nerves as time passed slowly. How was he going to manage this? Was he strong enough to stand up for himself once and for all? He assumed he’d find out sooner then he wanted to. Kyo dragged himself out onto the small balcony outside of Kaoru’s apartment and curled up on one of the chairs. He always like the city view that the balcony served and he looked out over the dusky city, thinking. He didn’t remember the last time he’d just sat down by himself and thought. Tetsuya had never let him have much time to himself. He thought Kyo was selfish for wanting alone time. The blonde only fought that for so long. A small breeze whipped over the small vocalist’s face and he closed his eyes, relishing the soothing feel it played on his skin. Today was the day. He had no other choice. He was ready to put Tetsuya in his past and move on into the future with Kaoru by his side.
Kaoru blinked in the morning light, feeling cold. He looked over to see that Kyo wasn’t next to him. Sighing softly he dragged himself out of bed and pulled on a pair of pants before leaving his room. He soon found his lover out on the balcony and smiled. The vocalist looked almost ethereal in the grey of the morning. Kaoru believed Kyo to be truly beautiful. He slowly walked over to the sliding glass door and opened it, stepping out into the cool air. He smiled to Kyo and stepped behind the vocalist, kissing his neck gently.
“You’re up awfully early.” Kaoru said softly. “Are you worried about today?”
Kyo sighed. “You have no idea.”
“Yes I do. I’m worried to, Kyo. You know I’ll be waiting for you though.” Kaoru pulled up a chair and sat next to his lover. “After today, things will be all right. I promise you that.”
Kyo smiled faintly. “I know. I believe you, Kao-chan.”
“Good.” Kaoru nodded. The guitarist stood and stretched his arms above his head. “You think you can choke down some breakfast?”
Kyo laughed softly. “As long as you’re cooking it.”
“But of course.” Kaoru smiled and led the vocalist into the kitchen.
Kaoru pulled up in front of Kyo’s apartment building and parked. He sighed heavily and looked at the vocalist next to him. The car ride had been as silent as the dead the whole way. It only succeeded in Kaoru’s nerves sky rocketing. The guitarist looked to his lover with soft eyes.
“I’ll be right here. I’ll give you a half an hour and if you’re not out in that time then I’m coming up. All right?” He said, softly.
Kyo nodded. “All right.” The vocalist shivered, a horrible sinking feeling settling in his stomach. He looked to Kaoru, his body language staying calm but he knew his eyes conveyed what fear he had. Kyo threw his arms around the guitarist neck and kissed him deeply as if it would be the last kiss they ever shared.
Kaoru enfolded the smaller man in his arms and returned the kiss with just as much fervor. He stroked Kyo’s hair and broke this kiss finally, whispering reassurances to him.
“I love you, Kyo. I promise I always will.” Kaoru whispered sincerely.
“I love you too, Kaoru.” Kyo pulled away from the other’s embrace and sighed heavily. “All right. Here I go. I’ll see you in half an hour.”
Kaoru settled into his seat and watched his lover get out of the car and head into his apartment building. All he had to do now was wait. Half an hour wasn’t so long, but somehow he had the feeling it would feel like an eternity.
Kyo took a deep breath and opened the door to his apartment, expecting to see Tetsuya awake and waiting for him. He didn’t see Tetsuya at all he was shocked to find that Tetsuya wasn’t in the apartment at all. Kyo sighed and took the opportunity to pack as many things as he could into some bags. He would stay with Kaoru until he could get the rest of his things from the apartment. He just set his last bag by the door when it was flung open and Tetsuya came storming in, nearly knocking Kyo over backwards. A lump formed in Kyo’s throat as Tetsuya’s eyes locked on him, hatred evident in them.
“I see you’re back. Are you here to sweet talk me into forgiving you?” He sneered.
“On the contrary, I’m here to do the complete opposite.” Kyo stood tall, a rush of confidence invading him. “I’m here to call it quits with you. It’s over between us. It has been for a long time. I can’t stay here with you and take anymore of the abuse. I deserve better then that. I am worthy of someone’s love and that someone isn’t you.”
Tetsuya stepped back, shock evident on his face. He took a moment to process the other’s words and then laughed. He laughed aloud, shaking his head. “This is what your little guitarist friend has told you isn’t it. He’s convinced you to break up with me so he could have you to himself. Come on, Kyo, I’m not blind. That punk’s been in love with you from the start and I know you ran to him last night with a sob story. I know he took you in his arms and made love to you. He showed you what you wanted to believe a lover is. You’re so naïve.”
Kyo growled softly. “Shut up! Kaoru’s more of a lover then you’ll ever be.”
Tetsuya stopped laughed abruptly and narrowed his eyes on the small vocalist. “Is that a fact?” He advanced on the younger man, wanting to intimidate him.
Kyo stood his ground and nodded. “Yes, it’s a fact. Kaoru loves me. More then you ever even pretended too. Why don’t we stop playing games and just deal with the fact. It’s over.”
“Oh, that’s what you think, Kyo. “ Tetsuya said threateningly. He grabbed the vocalist by the front of the shirt and pushed him up against a wall. “Do you really think I would let you go this easily? Are you really that stupid?”
Kyo squeaked in fear. “Tesuya, stop! Please don’t do this. To either of us.”
Tetsuya smirked and his hand slid down the front of Kyo, finding its way inside the other’s pants. He gripped the smaller man’s organ, kneading it gently. Kyo writhed against the man, whimpering faintly. His body was betraying him but he had to get away. His mind and his heart didn’t want this. It never had all the times Kyo had succumbed to Tetsuya’s attentions.
“Tetsuya, onegai!” The small vocalist groaned. He tried to fight off the other but he wasn’t strong enough. Tetsuya was freakishly strong when he wanted something and Kyo knew that it was himself that Tetsuya wanted. “This is rape! Do you really want that on your conscience?”
Tetsuya laughed. “What conscience? Haven’t you figured out that I’m a cold, heartless bastard?” He turned the smaller man around roughly and pressed him against the wall, his hand still down the front of his pants. “You need to be taught a thing or two.”
Kyo closed his eyes, tears escaping them. Tetsuya managed to get his clothes off him and he felt himself being pushed to the floor. He kicked and hit at the other, trying anything he could to get the man off of him. He failed miserably and his screams rang through the apartment as Tetsuya carried on his brutal iniquity. Kyo felt himself falling into darkness; the world began to sound as if he were in a tin can. Tetsuya finished the rape and beating and left Kyo broken and bleeding on the floor. Kyo welcomed the darkness that engulfed him, taking away his pain.
Kaoru’s eyes snapped open and he cursed himself loudly for dozing off. He looked to the clock and a panic rose in his throat. It had been an hour and a half since Kyo left the car and he hadn’t returned. Kaoru swore again and bolted out of the car. How could he have been so careless? True he hadn’t slept well the night before but it was no excuse to fall asleep through a dire situation. He would kick his own ass later. With the speed of an Olympic runner, Kaoru made his way up Kyo’s apartment and stopped cold. The door was slightly ajar and no noise was coming from the apartment. Kaoru forced his feet to move and pushed open the door all the way. The only light was the evening sunset that filtered through the windows. The twilight cast shadows across the walls that seemed much more ominous then usual. The air was cold, too cold and Kaoru’s nose wrinkled at the smell of blood and sex. His heartbeat raced and he tore through the apartment, upsetting a side table in his haste. The sight that was held before his eyes froze his heart and took the breath right out of him. Kyo lay battered and bruised on the floor, his eyes closed and his breath shallow. Kaoru choked back a sob and dropped to his knees next to Kyo, pulling the small man into his arms.
“Kyo-kun, please…wake up.” Kaoru sobbed, shaking the vocalist gently. “Gomen ne, I should have been there.”
Kyo’s eyes opened slowly and he looked up to the guitarist. “Kao-chan” he whimpered.
Kaoru cried and he hugged his lover to him. “Kyo, I’m so sorry. I’m such an ass. I wasn’t there. Look at what he did to you.”
“Don’t apologize, Kaoru. I shouldn’t have come in alone. You only did what I asked you to do.”
“No it is my fault. I fell asleep.” Kaoru sobbed.
Kyo offered a faint smile and reached a hand to touch his lover’s cheek. “I don’t blame you, Kaoru. I went against an instinct and this is what I got.” The vocalist’s voice was hoarse and he winced in pain.
“I need to get you to a hospital, Kyo. I can’t mend you by myself. He caused too much damage this time.” Kaoru sucked up his tears and wiped away the blood on Kyo’s face. “Just hold on, I’ll get you help.” The guitarist stood and lifted Kyo into his arms and carried the man from the apartment.
Kyo rested his head against Kaoru’s chest, tears stinging his eyes. It hurt to move, to breathe. The vocalist slipped into unconsciousness again as he was driven to the hospital.
