Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know Orlando Bloom. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Hey guys, here it is, the next chapter, finally!
I'm sorry it took me a bit longer this time, but I had so much studying to do. I'm off for summer now, so I hope I'll be able to update regularly now.
Thanks again for the kind reviews.
To Fanny, that was exactly what I intended. I wanted the reader to get a bit confused about what's real and what's fantasy. So I'm happy that I achieved it. Thank you, your reviews keep me going!
To Keena, thank you, too. It helps a lot to find out what other people think about the story. Please don't hesitate to tell me your opinion.
Well then, enjoy the next, slightly dramatic chapter...
Chapter Five
They were strolling along in the park, chatting away. When Katie was just complaining about one of her horrible professors, Orlando remembered what he had actually
wanted to tell her. He just didn’t know how. How do you tell a friend that you’ll be gone for the next two probably even three years, and that you’re due to leave next
week.
They sat down on their favourite bench. His eyes focused on the floor. He saw her feet, she had taken off her shoes, playing with a few stones. They were so tiny. His
eyes wandered up her legs. He liked her legs. They were quite tanned. He wondered why, after all they were living in England, not one of the sunniest countries. But they
were in good shape. Her knees were hidden under her skirt. She never showed her knees. But he knew what they looked like. There was a huge scar on the left one,
because of the accident she once had with her bicycle. She hated that scar. She thought it was ugly, so she always hid it. But Orlando didn’t mind. He thought it belonged
to her, it was part of their past. His eyes wandered further up, resting on her belly. He liked the fact that she wasn’t one of those super thin chicks. There was a bit of a
belly there, not too much, it was just perfect. A soft belly to rest your head on while she is fiddling with your hair.
“Hey Bloom! Are you listening? Hey, I’m talking to you!”
“Well, yeah! Of course!” He avoided her gaze knowing that she didn’t believe a word. He might be quite good at acting, but had always sucked at lieing.
“Come on, Bloom, tell me! You haven’t been listening to one word I’ve said! Where have you been?”
“Right here with you, babe! All the time!”
“Really? What did I say?”
“Oh shit...”, he laughed and Katie hit him teasingly.
“See, you didn’t listen! You’re such a bad liar! Now tell me, what’s wrong with you...And don’t back out now. I can see that something’s bothering you!”
“Well “, he started off, but then paused. He looked at her. He saw the love in her sparkling green eyes and it broke his heart knowing that he wouldn’t be seeing them
for a long time.
“Well...”
“We’ve been this far already! Now go on...”
“Okay, I really don’t like telling you this. But I’ve got news from my agent.”, he made a dramatic pause to take a deep breath.
“Well, tell me...”
“Okay, they’ll be shooting the movie in New Zealand!”, he bursted out.
“NEW ZEALAND?”, she gasped. “Wow, that’s...far away...”, she added after a little while. “How long will you be gone?”
He sighed. “Probably two or three years.”
“WHAT????”
“I’m sorry, babe...I just, you know that I have to do this, I mean this is a dream come true...Jamie will be here.”
Katie got up and walked around nervously. He didn’t know whether she was angry or sad, and supposedly she didn’t even know herself, but he knew that she needed
some time to gain control again. It always freaked her out to lose it. So he waited.
Finally she regained her voice. “Three years, that’s a long time and New Zealand is far away...When?”
“When what?”
“Orlando, don’t play now. Tell me.”
“Next Friday!”
“FRIDAY??? That’s less than a week!” Now she had tears in her eyes.
“As I said, It’s not like I’m leaving you alone...Jamie will be here. He will take care of you!”
“Take care of me?? What am I a baby?”
Orlando kept silent, surprised by the angry tone of her voice.
“I have no idea what’s been going on between you two lately as nobody seems to tell me anything anymore, but for all I know, Bloom, I don’t NEED anybody to take
care of me! I need my best friend!”, she sobbed quietly.
At this moment Orlando wished for nothing more than to take her into his arms and just hold her. But he couldn’t. She was Jamie’s girl now. As much as it hurt to see
her cry, it would kill him to hold her now. He knew that he’d do something stupid. And that was the last thing he needed at the moment. He couldn’t bare the mere sight
of her at the moment. He just wanted to leave, get as far away from her as possible.
Katie sat down beside him again. She took his hand. He wondered how a gentle, innocent touch like that could make his heart beat this fast.
“Hey, Bloom...are you listening to me for once?”
He nodded, hardly able to take his eyes off the floor.
“It hurts me to see you like this.”, she whispered, “I know something’s been on your mind for weeks now. Something has changed between us, ever since...ever since
Jamie and I have been...involved.”
He sighed and turned away. He did not want to talk about this now. Nor ever!
“Hey, Bloom, look at me.”
He turned towards her again.
“That Jamie and I are together now, doesn’t mean that we don’t need you anymore. I don’t want you to think that. You have always been, and will always be my best
friend! That will never change.”
He swallowed. If she only knew that that was the last thing he wanted to be. But he couldn’t tell her. Now or ever. “I know.”, he answered desperately trying to keep his
voice calm. “I know, babe.” And then he finally hugged her and let her cry in his arms, the way it had always been...

Everything was still turning when Katie got up. She didn’t quite know how, but somehow she managed to get up and actually leave the bed. She felt dizzy as soon as she
was on her feet. She could hardly remember the last time she’d been standing. It seemed so long ago. “Damn, baby!”, she whispered and stroke her belly. Then she
started walking slowly, one foot after the other and finally, miraculously the dizziness vanished.
She made her way to the kitchen without any further incidents. Jamie got up and embraced her.
“Hey, darling you feeling better?”
“Yes, thanks, honey. I’m just a little bit tired now that’s all.”
“You know, I’m really worried about you...”, he uttered while fixing her a cup of tea, “Maybe you should go see a doctor.”
Katie froze in shock. “Oh, come on!”, she gasped, “I won’t run to a doctor just because my stomach is a bit upset. “
“I’m afraid it might be more than just that, It’s been going on for days now...”
She went over to him and put her hands on his shoulders. “Trust me, darling, I’m not sick. I’m fina again. It’s probably only the stress, you know planning the wedding
and all, can be quite stressful!”
Nobody would ever know how much she hated herself in that particular moment. She despised herself for lying to him without even feeling guilty.
Jamie cleared his throat. “Uh well, talkin’ ‘bout the wedding...There’s somethnig I have to tell you...”
“We’re not gonna postpone it no matter how important the meeting is! Your boss..”
“It’s fine, it’s okay! The wedding will take place, and I will be there all the time, ok?”
“Oh, okay. Well...what is it then?”
Jamie cleared his throat again which showed that he was really nervous.
“Come on, tell me, it can’t be that bad!”
“It’s not, at least I don’t think so. You might kill me though.”
She waited for him to go on.
“Well,I invited somebody else...”
“That’s not too bad, Kellie had to cancel, so we’ve no problem with the seeting arrangements. Who is it?”
“It’s an old friend. I haven’t seen him in ages. And I really want him to be there...”
“Okay, who is it, we’re gonna send him an invitation, won’t we?”
Jamie turned towards her. He handed her the tea. “Darling, you won’t like this. I know you’re still mad at him and all, you never really forgave him. But, I did. And I
really want him there. I met up with him earlier today...”
“You’re kidding me right? You invited HIM? I can’t believe you actually did this!”
Katie turned around and left the room. She breathed heavily. That just couldn’t be true. ‘Oh my God, oh my God!”, she whispered.
Jamie followed her into the livingroom. “Come on, Katie, now don’t freak out. He’s been my best friend for ages, and now I’m getting married and want him to be there!”
“You should’ve asked me!”
“You would have said no!”
“Of course I would’ve! Because I don’t want him to be there!”
“But I do! And so I asked him!”
“What did he say? When did you decide this!”, she tried to calm down. Tried to focus. She mustn’t make Jamie suspicious.
“He said yes, and I’ve been thinkin’ about it ever since I asked you. Come on, don’t be like that. I think he does really regret what happened in the past.”
There was no way Orlando could be at her wedding. She wouldn’t let him ruin that, not this time. Jamie was holy, he was hers and she wouldn’t let Orlando destroy what
they had. She knew she wouldn’t be able to swear honesty and faith to Jamie when Orlando, the personification of her dreams, would be there and watch. She knew she
couldn’t stand seeing him knowing that she had killed his child. So she had to make Jamie take care of this.
“Oh, I hope he does! And I hope he will until his last day!”, she roared at him. Then she calmed down, but the look in her eyes showed that there was more to come.
Suddenly she had an idea. “And so will you, if you don’t straighten this out!”, she hissed like a snake.
“Katie, darling, what is that supposeds to mean now?”, he sounded annoyed. He hated it when she turned into that stubborn bitch. He had never been able to cope with
her in a that mood.
“That means, that I am fucking mad at you for doing this without even asking me. And that I don’t wanna see him there! If he’s gonna be there, I won’t! This is MY
wedding and I won’t have anybody spoil it!”
With these words she had grabbed her purse and rushed out of the apartement slamming the door behind her.
“It’s my wedding, too...”, Jamie whispered.
*
Jamie was furious. How could she do that! Who did she think she is?
It was just as well his wedding. So why didn’t he get a say in this? He wanted his best friend to be there. What was so wrong about that?
He knew that Katie had been deeply hurt, when Orlando had left and never called. And he remembered well the pain it had caused him to see her like that, grieving
because of another guy. No. He knew that there had always been a special bond between Katie and Orlando, but he just never realized how special it really was. What
had been going on between them when they were younger?
No, no,no! He mustn’t let that happen! “Don’t get caught up in your jealousy now! Katie wants to marry you, she loves you...she loves ME!”, he told himself, “I won’t let
anyone or anything come between us. We are great together and it will work out. Everything is gonna be fine...”
Finally he managed to form clear thoughts. He knew that Katie would be out and about for a while, probably with her sister. And he knew that he would bette be off not
calling her fo a while, just to give her some time
. It had been a while since their last big fight.
He couldn’t help smiling. He loved her. He loved her more than he had ever loved anybody else before. And whatever it was that had been troubling her lately, he knew
that they would make it, somehow.
Though he hated it when she freaked out like that and just lost it, he smiled. He thought about how the had been fighting before and how he had always managed to
make it up to her again. Now, that was something Orlando had never achieved. He had never been able to calm her down. He had always let her rage, and this time he
had spoilt it for good. Jamie was sure that Katie would never forgive him for hurting her that much. And that was Jamie’s advantage. He had done shitty stuff, he had
messed it up, but somehow, he had always managed to make her come back. He had never let her down when she needed him. But Orlando had.
Jamie couldn’t help smiling. He knew that it would be okay again. He just had to find out a way to calm her down, and then it would be possible to talk to her reasonably.
He had to find something he could do for her, maybe something she asked him to do a long time ago...Oh yeah, she had always wanted him to fix the cupboard in the
bathroom, something was wrong with her drawer. He should have a look at that now.
