Title:
Ms Self Destruct
Author: TrentReznorsSin
Disclaimer: Trent unfortunately doesn’t belong to me *sobs* (do you really think I’d be sat at my PC if I owned him?? Lol) but Erin and some other people you won’t recognise belong to moi. I’m a poor uni student so don’t sue, I’m not making anything out of this!
Summary: Set during the Self Destruct Tour 94/95. Trent’s decision to ask his best friend Erin to come along for the tour has made them both ask the question ‘are we just friends?’
Feedback: Yes please, no flames though, they make me cry
Author's note: This is the first NIN fiction I’ve written in years, so I might be a bit rusty.
Wow, three chapters in a row for you to read! You lucky lot, lol. Thank you very much to those who review (keep doing it! I neeeeeed reviews!) and to my beta reader Danu!
Chapter Three: Twist
Well it’s been a few weeks since I last wrote. I’ve been working on this feature that Paul wants for the magazine. I’m up to my eyeballs in notes, photos, fans stories…its crazy. When I haven’t been working, I’ve been with the guys, watching shows and hanging out with them as we travel. We’re now in back in the US in Poughkeepsie, NY and spending some time looking around the place.
Everyone seems to be okay; I think Robin might be getting sick though. He doesn’t seem too good, but he keeps saying he’s fine. I think Trent and the others have noticed too. If he’s not careful, Nine Inch Nails may not have a guitarist.
I hope they have a back up plan.
Erin put down her pen and closed her book. Looking out of the window, she looked at the city surrounding the hotel. She was eternally grateful to whoever had booked her a room to herself. It gave her time to work and it gave her a chance to get away from Trent.
It sounded terrible; to try and get away from your best friend, but things were getting worse for her.
Picking up the pen, she tried to carry on with her work. She stared down at the page for a moment before throwing the pen back down again. Frustrated, she leaned her elbows on the desk and gripped her hair.
If only he knew…
Pushing the chair away from the desk, she stood up and reached for her shoes. Maybe going down to the hotel bar would calm her.

Trent looked out over the balcony onto the city. He loved touring, not only because he could perform for the fans, but he got to see so many places. After the first show in San Francisco, they had then gone to London, England for a few weeks, then they had moved on to Belgium and now they were back in the US.
Running a hand through his dark hair, he stretched and leaned against the railing.
A knock at his door broke his thoughts. Walking back into the room, he opened the door to see James and Danny.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Robin isn’t good man, I don’t think he’s gonna be able to play.” Danny said. Trent nodded in understanding. He knew something hadn’t been right. “What are we going to do?”
“I don’t know, we don’t have any back up plans…maybe we could put the concert off for a couple of days?”
“But then that would mess up everything else.” Trent leant against the doorframe. James was right. If they didn’t find someone, they would have to cancel their date and have a lot of pissed off fans.
“Shit…”
“Hold on…” Danny suddenly said. “Doesn’t Erin play guitar?”
“Do you think she’d play?” Trent folded his arms and thought for a moment.
“She’s got the ability, we’ve played together loads of times. I just don’t know if she’d be okay with playing in front of hundreds of people.” He shrugged. “I’ll go and ask her, see what she says. Is she in her room?”
“Nope, I passed her a while ago. She said she was going to the bar.”
“Okay, I’ll go down and talk to her about it.”

Erin took a sip of her Sea Breeze and leant back in the chair. The bar was part of the hotel lobby, and there weren’t that many people around, so she had decided to sit down there and relax for a while.
The sound of footsteps behind her made her open her eyes and look around. Her heart did a small flip when she saw Trent looking around the room. His dark hair moving with every movement of his head as he looked around. He suddenly caught sight of her and walked over…
No no no…I’m supposed to be spending time away from you!
“Hey…” He sat down opposite her.
“Hey.” She replied, her mood suddenly deflated.
“We have a small problem…” Erin watched as he stretched out in the chair, crossing one ankle over the other and folding his arms across his chest.
“Oh?”
“Robin is not good, he won’t be able to play tomorrow night. We were wondering if you would go in his place…”
“Me? Me…Me play guitar for you?” He nodded. She reached over to pick up her drink, looking thoughtfully down into the pink liquid. “I don’t know Trent…”
“Why not?” She looked up at him for a moment. His dark eyes fixed on hers, his brows furrowed in confusion.
“Because I wouldn’t fit in. Because your fans are used to an all guy band…”
“Is that it?” Leaning on the table, he continued. “Fitting in as never been an option for us Erin, you should know that from school and college. As for Nine Inch Nails being an all guy group, I think a lot of female fans would think it cool that a woman was playing with us.”
Erin mulled his comments over. It was true about fitting in; it had never bothered her before, why should it now? She hadn’t thought about female fans being pleased that one of their own could rock just as hard as the rest of the group.
“You think?”
“I’m positive.”
