Gail now sat in a hotel room. Some sitcom played on the television, but her mind was back a few hours ago with Johnny and his words. It was one hell of a dance though, wasn’t it? What did it mean? Did he feel the same things she did? Why did he say it? Was he playing some game?
Suddenly Gail’s phone went off bringing her out of her thoughts. “Hello?”
“Salut ! Où êtes-vous ?” (Hi! Where are you?)
Gail smiled at her sister’s voice. It didn’t sound angry so there was hope to salvage this visit. “J'ai pensé ce pourrais être meilleur si je reste à un hôtel. Pas c'est de grande affaire. J'ai calculé il serait beaucoup plus facile pour tout le monde.” ( I thought it might be better if i stay at a hotel. It's no big deal. I figured it would be a lot easier for everyone.)
Vanessa sighed. “Non, non, non ! vous ne pouvez pas rester à un hôtel ! vous êtes ma soeur et je ne me pardonnerais jamais si je vous permettez de reste à un hôtel.. Le regard, j'ai parlé à Johnny et à everythign est meilleur. S'il vous plaît revenir.” (No, no, no! you can't stay at a hotel! you are my sister and I would never forgive myself if i let you stay at a hotel... Look, I talked to Johnny and everything is better. Please come back.)
Gail paused and looked around the sparse room. It was cold and lonely and if she said no, then she would probably look guilty. She took a deep breath and nodded into the phone. “Bien, je reviendrai votre placer.” (Alright, I'll come back to your place.)
Vanessa made a happy-squealing noise and Gail could hear her clap her hands. “Cela est merveilleux ! Merci ! Donc je viendrai vous choisis en haut alors?” (That is wonderful! Thank you! So I will come pick you up then?)
“Oui.” (yes.) She then gave Vanessa the name of the hotel and then went out to meet her with her bags.

Vanessa, Gail and Johnny now sat in another expensive restaurant the difference with this dinner was that they were being joined by one of Johnny’s friends. When Gail and Vanessa returned home Vanessa got a brilliant idea to set Gail up with one of her male single friends. His name was Markus. He was very handsome and well spoken. He was a successful businessman specializing in movie Production. He held everyone’s attention and kept the three in stitches with amusing anecdotes all evening.
Gail found herself enjoying Markus and was very attractive to his clean-cut look. Unfortunately she found herself comparing Johnny and him. She couldn’t help it when they were sitting right next to each other. She compared their manners, their personalities, and their style. This man aimed to please. He wanted to make you like him and he tried hard… not that he had to, with his good looks and charm. Johnny on the other hand never tried. He was an easygoing happy man, or so Gail had gathered.
Gail sat there beside Markus now. They were all eating and she began to notice that Johnny was sneaking glances at her. Or so she thought? She shrugged it off, but then it kept happening. She hid the smirk that was forming on her lips. Was he trying to see if Markus and Gail were hitting it off? Or was there more to it? After his comment this morning Gail wasn’t sure which way was up anymore.
“So Gail you are a photographer? That must be fascinating work.” Markus said. He paused and then gave her a sexy, seductive smile. “You’ll have to show me some of your work some time.”
Gail grinned and shrugged. “Sure, your place or mine?”
Everyone broke out laughing and the rest of the dinner was filled with lively talk.
On the ride home Vanessa and Gail sat in the back seat giggling and Vanessa sharing inside information on Markus. Gail glanced at the rear view mirror and found a pair of deep dark brown eyes focused intensely on her.

Gail woke up the next morning early. She had always woken up to go for a walk, but the last couple of days her schedule had been thrown off kilter. So today she decided to take in her new surroundings. She got her usual running outfit on and headed out.
When she stepped out onto the front porch, Gail froze seeing a stream of smoke puff from the corner of the dark front porch. “Hey.”
Gail watched as Johnny appeared from the dark. He came to stand before her, and then leaned against a pillar. She smiled calmly, even though her heart was beating a mile a minute. “Why are you out here so early?”
Johnny shrugged and threw his cigarette into the black. “Can’t sleep. What are you doing out here?”
“I usually go for a walk every morning. I’ve been slacking off lately.”
Johnny laughed softly. “Ya I used to do that too… Care for some company?”
Inside Gail racked her brain for an excuse to say no, but came up empty. “Yeah sure…”
They stepped out onto the sidewalk and began walking silently. Johnny took out a cigarette and lit it up. Gail glanced over at him and smirked. “Didn’t any one ever tell you those things cause cancer?”
He laughed and took it out of his mouth. The smoke rose quickly and he shrugged. “Oh true, but it’s so worth it.”
Gail laughed. “Ah true, true…”
He looked at her. “You smoke?”
She shrugged. “Not now, but I used to. Complete chain smoker. I am the reason Vanessa smokes… But I got sick of it, so I quit.”
He nodded and took a long drag before blowing the smoke out of his nostrils. “Good for you. I admire that. Van and I have tried to quit.”
Gail smiled and they walked a little more in silence. Gail looked around and took in the American sights. “It is all so different here…” Gail said softly. Finally breaking the silence.
Johnny looked around. It was getting lighter out now and everything had a clean, new feeling to it. “Yeah? You like it here?”
Gail turned her attention to Johnny as they crossed the street. “Well kind of… I miss my home and the people. Everything here is so fast and edgy. Back home in Paris it’s like another time zone… We aren’t all business suits and fast cars…”
He smiled. “Vanessa describes France as a breath of fresh air in an otherwise polluted world. I want to go there some day, get away from all this.”
Gail smiled. “You would fit in there. You don’t seem to care about anyone or anything. You would have your pick of any girl in France id bet.”
Johnny chuckled. “You are so much like your sister it’s scary sometimes.”
Gail looked at him hocked. “Really? No one has ever said that.”
He nodded. “Oh no you can definitely tell you are Vans sister. You both get that look on your face when you talk about France and you both just have that same sweet powerful and strong look to you.”
Gail sighed. “Thank you, but powerful and strong is not how I would describe myself. Vanessa definitely, but me… no.”
Johnny looked at her curiously. “You must be joking. I’ve only known you for two days and I can already tell you could kick any mans ass mentally as well as physically.”
Gail blushed. “Thank you.”
They walked in silence a bit more. Johnny would sneak looks every so often at Gail and Gail would do the same. She felt like a teenage girl. Her heart was beating rapidly and her palms were turning sweaty. The silence was killing her. She felt as if she might pull him into a kiss at any moment. Her sanity was waning. Suddenly she couldn’t take the silence anymore and she burst out the first thing that came to mind. “Do you like me?”
Johnny looked taken aback for a moment. “Yes of course… Why wouldn’t I?”
Gail mentally kicked herself before shrugging and following through on what she’d started. “Well… I don’t know… Everything with Nessa… I am not sure what Vanessa might have told you or didn’t tell you… I don’t know really… we haven’t really known each other long and all and so I guess that makes it hard for you to get to know me… or me you… But I like you… Vanessa has told me so much and I feel like we are old friends at times… But at other times I feel differently.” She was rambling uncontrollably. She had never been good with men and this was always the result. She took a pause and then rolled her eyes. “I’m rambling.”
Johnny laughed. “It’s alright… I know what you mean.” He let out a deep sigh and folded tossed his cigarette onto the ground. “You know I’ve been with Vanessa for maybe a year and you have always been this mystery… Vanessa would talk about you all the time and you were always part of celebrations… and now the mystery is finally unmasked and you’re here…” He looked her over and smirked. “In a pink windbreaker and green sweat pants… I dunno somehow I pictured you walking through the door, hips swaying, hat cocked to the side, big dark Betty Davis eyes, Like some 1920’s gangster film heroin. Oozing sex and danger…”
Gail gulped again. “A-and did I disappoint?”
Johnny smiled warmly. That look returned to his eyes and Gail’s legs almost gave out. “No… You were nothing like I expected, instead of my expectations you turned out to be in a category all your own… I can’t really describe you… You are… it.”
Gail smiled. The compliment went right to her head and she couldn’t stop smiling. She laughed at herself finally and shook her head. “You are the weirdest man I’ve ever met, you know that? I don’t understand you. You are a mystery, but at the same time you lay your true thoughts out. You don’t hide things… I think you might have a little bit of French in that heart of yours. You have passion and a caring way about you.” Gail smirked. “You would fit in there, in France. You have a French heart.”
Johnny laughed. “A French heart… I like that.” Johnny grinned and went quiet, The sounds of the morning filling the silence. People were busy even at this time of morning. Buses and cars drove by, The air went a bit cooler and They turned another corner, The Depp Home in site and Gail realized they had only gone around the block.
Suddenly Johnny spoke up. “My passion does seem to get me in trouble some times though.”
Gail’s stomach lurched. “Oh really? How so?”
Johnny looked at her. “I let myself get carried away sometimes with things. Get too involved, sometimes till it’s too late and I’ve done something horrible… kind of like my smoking I guess.”
“Well that’s alright. Passion is what makes life so wonderful. Life isn’t worth living if you don’t get right into it. Je ne regrette rien. I regret nothing! Les conséquences sont condamné, consequences be damned! Or at least that’s how I try and think…” Gail had to catch her breath. She almost went too far. If she went any farther she would make this situation very awkward.
Johnny grinned. “Je ne regrette rien! Les conséquences sont condamné! I like that. You are a smart woman… And I suppose you go by these rules yourself?”
Gail rolled her eyes and shrugged with a chuckle. “Well yes of course. If I feel passionately about something I go for it.”
Johnny looked away for a second, his expression unreadable. They were just a few steps away from the front porch; a tree hid the house from Gail’s view. When Johnny looked back his expression was so serious that Gail was shocked. He stopped walking and looked at her. “If you feel so passionate about something, so much that it seems to consume you, should you act on it? Even if it might be a bad thing?”
Gail couldn’t catch her breath. His eyes bore into her. He looked suddenly lost and confused. Her head swam and she couldn’t comprehend his words. The world seemed to fade away and she couldn’t help her answer. “Yes…” It was almost a whisper.
Suddenly Johnny stepped closer. His hands grabbing her by the arms, he pulled her towards him and captured her lips with his own. It was deep and hot, warm and inviting… She felt her whole body float on air, her heart burst and her eyes close quickly. She couldn’t control herself and in a moment of desperation, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer to her. It felt so nice to be kissed again. His kisses were hungry and needy. His tongue delved deep inside her mouth, ruthlessly attacking her own. Her body heated to above boiling and she ached for him. She ached like nothing before. She couldn’t control her limbs, her breathing, and the moans that were escaping her lips. Most of all she couldn’t control the fire that this kiss had ignited.
Suddenly Johnny pulled away. He looked at her with a searching gaze. She stared back, looking deep into his eyes. Then Johnny walked off. Without another word Gail watched him retreat into the house, the door closing soundlessly behind him.
