When Bam finally woke from the sharp light coming from the rising sun, it took him a good full minute to remember where he was again.
He was as stiff as a board from laying on the hard grass, and cold from the
cool air that had replaced the tropical heat at night. His head didn’t hurt as bad anymore, but the cuts on his body and face were beginning to itch from the healing process.
He groaned, seeing he was still on the island with the empty beach and huge forest attached to it. So it hadn’t been a dream like he had hoped. He had been on a cruise ship, which had been attacked by a tornado. He had escaped in a lousy rubber boat, against his will. He was stuck on a very empty island together with……
Heey!
The slim body that had been curled up next to him last night was gone. For a
second Bam wondered if he'd gone mad from the heat, and imagined having the tall Finish man on the island with him.
But the flattened and broken grass not far from where he had laid, proved something heavy, obviously a human body, had laid down on it. So he wasn’t going nuts. Or at least not yet.
Ok, so that mystery was solved…….now he had to deal with a whole bunch of other questions like: How were they going to get off this island? How were they going to survive this? Where they really on a deserted island?
Oh yeah, and….Where the hell was Ville?
He slowly got off the damp grass, needing to stretch before he could fully stand. He really needed to find a softer place to sleep. Perhaps a warmer place too. Definitely more shelter.
Grass was sticking to his filthy wet jeans and his ripped t-shirt, but he didn’t even notice. Because as he stood up, his eyes immediately caught sight of the tall figure standing to his waist in the, now calm, blue ocean.
Ville was standing in the ocean.
Bam felt himself panicking for a second, and started to run on his poorly tied and damp Adios. His legs didn’t want to carry him, and the sand made it hard for him to move, but he didn’t even realize the discomfort in his body.
He needed to find out why his only companion was standing in the sea like that. That maybe he was leaving without him. Maybe even trying to drown himself. Then he would be all alone.
"Ville, Jesus what the hell are you doing? Come back!" He shouted, running to the sea, but stopping on the line between water and sand before his shoes could touch it.
Ville’s head shot up when Bam shouted, and he looked back at the island, seeing the scruffy looking boy standing on the beach and waving at him with both arms. Obviously frustrated about something.
"Hey Bam, come here and help me." Ville shouted back, holding onto what seemed like a big, black, floating thing to Bam.
"With what?"
"The boat. I found it. I found our boat."
Bam finally recognised the black rubber boat Ville was holding onto. He was mildly surprised the thing was still floating at all, but he didn’t feel the need to get into the water and get himself all wet.
"Can’t you just……do it yourself." He asked, biting his lower lip when Ville
raised an eyebrow.
"Don’t be such a baby, and just get over here." Ville groaned, annoyed that the boat was too heavy and the waves, small as they were, were still too strong for him to get the boat on land by himself.
"I don’t…..Oh fine…alright." Bam signed, kicking off his shoes and starting to peel off his shirt, making Ville, dressed and soaked in the water, frown in frustration.
"Oh come on, the sun will dry you in a second. There's no need to get undressed." He wined, obviously not very comfortable with Bam now unbuttoning his jeans.
"I hate wearing wet clothes. What’s the big deal?" Bam shrugged, stepping out of his jeans and standing on the beach with only a pair of modest black boxers hiding only his private parts from Ville’s eyes.
Ville never had issues with nudity. He even like walking around naked himself from time to time. And not even just in the private of his own home. His band and him had even recorded a whole album in the nude together.
Just as friends of course, but still.
So no, he had no issues with nudity, or even male nudity for that matter. Then why was this guy standing in his boxers on the beach making him uncomfortable?
Maybe because he didn’t like him that much. Maybe because he was standing here with all his clothes on and soaked to the bone. Maybe because his body was nicely shaped and toned. Very different from his own slim frame.Or maybe, because the small boxer were not hiding much from what was underneath the layer of fabric. Or at least the size of it anyway.
‘Oh Jesus, I’m not even gonna go there.’ Ville cursed inwardly, looking the other way when the boy walked into the water, coming closer.
‘Oh god, what if this guy is gay? What if he's into guys, and I’m the only guy in the island.’ Ville suddenly panicked when the guy came closer, water dripping off his smooth chest. The idea alone was………repulsive, yeah that was what it was…….repulsive.
Well, he would never let him near anyway. It would never happen….ever! He had nothing to worry about. He calmed himself down, as Bam slowly walked up to him through the resisting water and he looked away once more.
"Great ok, I’m here. Now what?" Bam groaned, not liking standing in the water that came up to his nipples. It wasn’t cold, but not as warm as he would have liked it to be either.
"Grab the boat ok, and pull towards the coast. Together we might be able to do it." Ville mumbled, not looking at Bam and making him raise an eyebrow.
"Ehm, Ok.
He grabbed hold of the boat as Ville was doing, and together it didn’t take them long to get the boat out of the water and onto the coast. It was pretty big, bigger then Ville remembered it to be, and after they dragged it onto the beach, panting heavily with flushed faces, they laid down into it so the sun could dry the up. Of course, with the proper distance between them.
"Yo Will." Bam suddenly asked, facing the sky as the sun dried away the water droplets on their skin.
"Oh come on, you’re doing that on purpose." Ville sighed, making Bam chuckle
next to him.
"Fine ok, I couldn’t help myself. Yo Ville…."
"Yeah what?"
"Are we gone check for life today or…..You know, make it to the other side of the woods?"
Ville flinched, and starting chewing on his bottom lip, making Bam a bit confused. He had been so determent yesterday. Flipping over so his back could dry, Bam waited for his answer from Ville, who finally began to talk, slowly like he was carefully picking out his words.
"Bam, did you notice….did you notice how dark it was last night? It was, well except for the moonlight, pretty much pitch black."
"Yeah, you're right. You want a smiley sticker?"
"Shut up and listen to me." Ville snapped, obviously extremely annoyed. Bam knew that if they wanted to get along even slightly better then yesterday, he would have to back down a little.
"Ok, sorry."
There was a pause, like Ville was trying to figure out if Bam had really just apologized to him. But then he continued.
"If there had been a city, or even a very small village, there would have been lights. I didn’t see anything last night, and I looked hard. There was no sounds of traffic, or machines, or even the tiniest sound that could have been made by humans. I only heard the animals."
"Yeah me too. There are so many freaking things in that forest. But seriously, what do you mean?"
"You know what I mean." Ville answered, sounding somewhat exhausted now.
"Maybe there are no people on this island. Or not near us anyway. Maybe we're all alone." He sounded calm, but the way his voice rose slightly when he spoke made Bam realize he was obviously terrified.
"So what happened to me being an idiot for thinking we were on a deserted island?" Bam joked with a small voice, hoping that Ville would find the confidence he had had yesterday again. Being laughed at for thinking the worse scenario possible was way better then being told he was right all along.
"Well what are the odds Bam? A deserted island, I mean come on…..I didn’t
think those existed anymore."
"No, the last time I heard of a deserted island was…..well when Jack was being thrown off the ship and was stuck on the that small island. At least he had rum, though."
Bam spoke, longing in his voice when he mentioned the rum. There was a silence before Ville suddenly giggled.
"You are not seriously talking about Pirates of the Caribbean, are you?" Making Bam blush and groan at the same time.
"I know it's only a movie, I’m not that stupid. Anyway what are we going to do now?" Quickly changing the subject, he stood up to pull on his clothes again, picking off the peaces of dirty grass with his fingernails.
"I suggest we stay close to the coast, wait for a boat to find us. Find some shelter, some fresh water and of course some food. We better learn how to survive because we could be stuck here for a while." Ville explained in one breath, letting Bam know he was obviously the one with the brains who had thought this all through.
"A boat?" Bam numbly asked, not knowing what else to say.
"Well, a ship yeah. Then we can use our boat to get closer to it so they'll see us."
"Yeah, ok." Bam mumbled with a sigh. Ville’s suggestion wasn’t even close to perfect, but he had honestly no idea what else they could do right now. Ville was probably right anyway. And he had serious doubts they would survive going through the woods. One fatal snakebite would be the end of their little adventure. And especially the snake part didn’t appeal to him at all.
"We better start right now. When it gets dark we won’t be able to see a damn thing." Ville stated, getting his now dry body out of the boat, struggling to keep himself steady. He'd been having a hard time moving around ever since he'd woken up this morning.
Bam wanted to tell him he should stop pretending he was in charge, but seeing Ville struggling like he was, obviously not doing so great all of a sudden, made him cock an eyebrow.
"Are you alright? Your hands are shaking like mad. Are you sick?" He asked, trying not to sound worried, but failing when his voice rose a little.Ville stopped and watched his trembling hands with a sigh.
Flinching, he shook his head slowly while looking up at Bam."Cigarettes, I’m a chain-smoker. Or at least I was….And I haven’t had a smoke in a while now so…."
"Oh, are you feeling alright?"
"Not so much. I'll be fine though."
Bam just shrugged. Being a non-smoker, he had no idea how Ville was feeling right now. He frankly didn’t want to care that much either. As long as he didn’t die or got sick it would be fine. Being alone on this creepy island wouldn’t make things better.
"Great so I’m stuck with a drugless junky. On an deserted island. My fucking fantasy." He joked lightly, making Ville laugh shakily.
"I’m no junky dumbass." He smiled, punching Bam lightly on the arm. "I’m not on heavy drugs or shitty medication. Just cigarettes. Alcohol sometimes but…Nothing really bad. I’ll live."
Walking past Bam, he took the lead to the forest where they would look for water and food, and maybe shelter for that night. Not noticing Bam’s sun kissed cheeks suddenly paling.
‘Meds. His Medication…..Holy fucking shit.’
Ville maybe wasn’t a junky, but Bam knew he wasn’t far from being one. His medication, he had been on them for years now. He needed them to repress his depression. His feelings. He had tried to quit two time already, but he was always forced to use them again, since his body and mind couldn’t handle the pain seepingthrough without the meds holding them down. One time he had even spend a few months in a mental institution.
He needed his medication, and he would need them soon, since he would probably not make it through the day without feeling the absence.
Now he was the one feeling shaky, and seeing Ville starting to walk further and further away from him suddenly made him scared. Afraid of being alone with himself.
"Ville....Hey Ville! Please wait up."
