“Hello Patty. How are you?”
Rebecca laughed and flopped down on the couch between Pete and Patrick, narrowly missing Patrick’s lap. She balanced the plate with a few pieces of pizza on her lap, tucking her legs underneath her.
“Hey Rebecca. And how many times do I have to ask you not to call me that?”
“I don’t know. How many times have I asked you not to call me Rebecca?”
Rebecca grinned and snuggled farther back into the couch. She wasn’t going to change how she acted around her friend, but she couldn’t help but notice the slightest thing that he did. Her mind was over-analyzing everything that went on throughout the opening credits and first portion of the movie.
“Hey Pete, can you help me with the ice cream? I caught sight of some mint chocolate chip, and I’ve been itching to break into it. Pizza and ice cream sounds heavenly.”
Rebecca turned towards Ivy, an eyebrow raised suspiciously. After a moment, Pete hopped up as well, a bit of a grin on his face.
“Good idea, Ivy. Want some Patrick? Becca?”
“Oh, sure, Pete.”
“Sounds good Petey, but let me get it. I’ve already seen this movie.”
“No, no. Just don’t worry about it, Becca. Besides, I’m already up. Be right back with the ice cream.”
And with that, Pete hopped up the stairs after Ivy. Rebecca laughed, shaking her head slightly. She was positive those two were plotting together and had just used the ice cream as an excuse to leave the room, more than likely to try and have something happen with Patrick and her. Rebecca turned back to Patrick with a grin.
“Well, Petey’s up to his normal tricks it seems. So, how have you been? Have fun on your last tour?”
“I’m doing good, a little tired from the tour and everything. But it’s a good tired. What about you? How has your film class being going?”
Rebecca smiled, flattered that he had remembered her mentioning that she was taking a film directing and acting class at school, as a possible change of majors. It had been quite some time ago, and she was sure that he had been busy doing several things at once when she had told him that. So it made her smile to think that he remembered that conversation, when she was sure that her brother probably wouldn’t have remembered something she told him a few minutes ago.
“I’m good. The film class is going great so far. It’s all field work now. So we’re tossed out onto the streets with cameras and left to our own devices. So it’s just getting really interesting now. I haven’t found my subject yet, but I’m sure it will come. After all, I live with Petey. I don’t think I will have any trouble finding something interesting to make a movie about.”
“You’ll get your inspiration. I’ve never known such a talented person as you to fail at their art. Now me, that’s something different. That’s why Pete took over the lyrics.”
Patrick lightly ran a hand along the back of Rebecca’s hair from where his hand rested on the back of the couch. The touch was feather light, and almost unnoticeable but Rebecca still noticed. Patrick had turned back to the television, attempting to make it appear that he was more interested in the movie than he truly was. Rebecca had a thought and leaned back against the couch, moving ever so slightly to where she was leaning more so against Patrick. She knew that it might make him more nervous, but she wanted to see when he would say something about the supposed feelings that everyone swore that he had for her. After all, she couldn’t exactly claim indifference on the matter.
“Your lyrics were good, Patty. Some of Petey’s are just too nonsensical for my tastes. But to each his own. After all, some people must like his lyrics. You guys are doing amazing. And your voice makes anything that comes out of my brother’s crazed brain sound fantastic.”
Rebecca caught a glimpse of a blush on Patrick’s cheeks and giggled a little, glad that the movie was a comedy, or else she might have made Patrick rather uncomfortable. She leaned a little more so against Patrick, playfully nudging him in the side.
“Patty seems to be blushing a little. I must say, the pink looks rather fetching opposite your red hair. It matches much better than if I were to blush. My hair just doesn’t match a blush as well.”
“Your hair is beautiful though, Rebecca. And I can’t picture you having any other hair color than what you have. It just suits you better. You don’t need to change anything about yourself.”
Rebecca smiled and leaned over lightly kissing Patrick on the cheek. As she pulled back, she patted his leg, uncrossing her legs and sliding forward off the couch.
“Perhaps we should go and make sure that Ivy and Petey aren’t up there eating the ice cream themselves. Come on, Patty.”
Rebecca laughed and held a hand out to him, motioning towards the stairs with her head.
