“Fuck yeah! It’s time to party!” Pontius said, pulling various liquors out of the cabinets.
“Go put those in the outside bar, I do the bartending while Terry’s not with us.” Heather smiled as she dialed a number on her phone.
“Who you calling Hizz?” Gina asked, looking out of the side of her eye at Johnny.
“I just need something delivered. Are you gonna take those bottles outside or are you just gonna drink them all here?” Heather asked Pontius, who was drinking straight out of the bottle. He laughed and carried the bottle outside.
“Yeah, sorry.”
Fifteen minutes later, everybody was changed in his or her swimming gear, except for Gina who disliked swimming. The drinks in the bar were getting cold, and a moving truck had just pulling up in front of the house.
“Oh good, they’re here.” Heather said as she stepped out of the front door into the cool air. She cursed at the movers for a while before pushing a cart carrying a huge covered box.
“Heather… you did not have them deliver that….” Savvy said as she shook her head.
Heather walked further into the house, with everybody following her curious to she what it was, and planted the box in her room against a wall. “Of course I did… who could I trust to take care of it?” She plugged in many cords to the nearby outlet then reached into the box from the side, still not removing the black cloth that covered it.
From out of the box Heather pulled a huge, eight-foot-long albino ball python. Bam immediately let out a little bitch scream and ran out of the room as Steve-O backed away slightly.
“I would like you all to meet Goyle, you know… like Gargoyle.” She said smiling, petting the huge snake’s head.
“Dude that thing is gonna eat my chickens!” Dunn yelled.
“Awww, he wouldn’t do that… he’s as harmless as a baby.”
“Oh yeah? Is that why your arm is turning purple?”
“He’s just giving me a hug!” Heather protested as she slipped him back in his cage.
“If I see that thing anywhere near me, I’m going to fucking kill it, I’m not fucking joking, you know I’m scared shitless of snakes.” Bam hollered from down the
hallway.
“If you even touch her snake I’ll rip ALL the hair out of your body.” Steve-O yelled in defense for Heather. Even though he was scared of snakes himself, he could tell she cared for the animal and didn’t want to see that prick do anything to harm it.
“Fuck you!” was the only answer.
Savvy clapped her hands together. “Okay guys, the drinks are calling to me, so I think I should answer those calls,” She smiled, walking towards the back yard.
Heather ushered everybody out of her room to change into a bikini top and short jean shorts. She came out to everybody waiting patiently in or around the pool. Taking her spot behind the bar, she took out two bottles and spun them in her hands, then poured multiple shots.
“What… how the hell can she do that when she doesn’t even drink?” Knoxville asked, leaning over to Gina. He was careful not to talk to her too much, afraid he would scare her away if he said too much.
“I’m not exactly sure… something she picked up when she moved away I guess, you know, to make ends meet.” Gina said, blushing slightly. She just couldn’t help being nervous around him.
Once everyone had gotten a few shots in them, Heather called Savvy over. “We really need to get Gina drunk so she’ll loosen up a bit, she’s not acting like herself.” Heather whispered to Savvy from over the counter.
“Yesh, you’re right. I can unstershtand how she feelsh though… she really likesh Knoxsville. I guess she doeshn’t want to do anything to embarrish hershelf.”
“I’ll handle it…” Heather said, pouring a bit of vodka in some Sprite. “Here Gina, I made you a drink.”
Gina hopped up and walked over to the bar, grabbing the drink. “What’s in it?”
“Uh… Sprite? What do you think would be in it?”
“Oh nothing… I just know how you can be sometimes… and I was checking.”
Heather huffed, rolling her eyes and pulling a gallon zip lock baggie from underneath the counter. The bag was full to almost not closing with weed. Setting on top of the bag was a cigarette case. She opened the case and put a joint behind her ear for herself.
Stepping from behind the bar, she stopped in front of Dunn, Wee-Man, Preston, Pontius, and Steve-O, handing each of them their own joint.
“I have plenty more, so smoke till your heart’s content, or till you can’t remember what your name is.”
“You’re one hell of a waitress.” Steve-O said, smiling coyly up at her. She pretended not to notice and walked away from him ignoring the comment. God what was he doing wrong? he wondered.
“Hey bitch what about me?” Bam yelled from the other side of the pool.
Heather walked over to him slowly and went to hand him a joint, but when he reached for it, she pulled her hand away.
“Truce, just for tonight?”
He looked at her for a while, trying to discern the seriousness of her comment and wondering if he should accept.
“Yeah, sure, now hand it over.”
She handed him the tightly rolled joint and took her own from behind her ear as they all lit up at once, filling the air with pungent smoke.
“You guys can’t do that here!” Karen shrieked from the pool’s edge, where her feet hung in the cool water.
“We can, and we are.” Wee-Man said, blowing smoke out of his nose.
As Heather walked back to the bar, Gina stopped her and shook her empty cup. “Could you make me another Sprite? It was just what I needed, but I’m still a little thirsty. Thanks.” She added as Heather took the cup from her. Running her finger along the inside and licking what had stuck, she smirked. This time when she made the drink, and the many subsequent times, she added a little bit more alcohol than the previous time.
Many hours later the sky was a dark, deep blue dotted with tiny white stars. Everybody was very relaxed, except for Karen, who wouldn’t stop bitching about the excessive drinking and smoking. There was music playing, to which Savvy and Gina sat arm over arm, swaying back and forth singing along. Heather walked around, even though she was swaying slightly, carrying a tray of drinks and weed, stopping to accommodate anybody that wanted either or both.
Knoxville sat next to Gina and started singing along with her and Savvy. The drinks that Heather had given Gina relaxed her slightly, but not to the point where she was totally relaxed around Johnny as Heather intended.
“I don’t think there wass jush shprite in that drink.” Gina slurred as Heather passed on her way back to the bar.
“No shit? I could have sworn I didn’t put any alcohol in your drinks…” Heather smiled.
“I knew it!” Gina shouted, about to get up, but decided it was best just to stay seated.
“Yeah, Gina, you might want to juss shtay where you’re at. Heather’sh doing a good job fixhing ush up, but I doubt she could handle you puking everywhere.” Savvy said, patting her on the shoulder.
Bam, Dunn, Preston, and Wee-Man sat in the pool with their elbows on the rim.
“So who’s got dibs on who here?” Bam asked, eyeing the girls.
Pontius went and sat next to Savvy, a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and started shouting the song they were singing, which caused both girls to start laughing uncontrollably.
“Well, as far as I can figure, that’s two pairs right there.” Preston said, gesturing to Savvy and Pontius, then Knoxville and Gina. “Courtney was taken from the start, so you have no luck there… that leaves Heather and Karen.”
“Actually that leaves Karen, there’s no way in hell you could handle Heather; I have a feeling that what we’ve seen so far is only the tip of the ice berg.” Wee-Man said, elbowing Bam in his ribs.
Bam shot him a look. “None of you are gonna try to go after her?” Everybody shook their heads.
“You think she’s easy?”
“Dude, that’s uncharted water and you’ll have to figure that out yourself… I’m actually gonna try my damndest to stay away from her… she’s a bit too obnoxious for me.” Dunn said, running his hand through his wet hair.
Bam shrugged and swam out of the pool over to Karen, who was still bitching about the drinking and smoking. He came up behind her and started talking to her, asking simple questions, pretending to be interested.
Heather watched from behind the counter, wiping it down in a metronome manner. She squinted at him, knowing he was up to something. Her thought was interrupted by a gravelly voice in front of her. “What?”
“Hand me one of those bottles.” Steve-O said, holding himself up by leaning on a stool.
“Oh yeah, sure.” Heather said, handing him a bottle without looking at him.
He stood back a few feet and took a long drink out of the bottle. He held the liquid in his mouth and flicked a lighter. Crouching down he held the lighter in front of his face, he blew the alcohol out of his mouth and did a back flip, creating an arc of fire around him. Instead of landing it he fell flat on his back as his legs gave out under him. Spitting the rest of the drink out, he burst out laughing.
“Quit trying to show off Steve-O!” Knoxville laughed, almost rolling into the pool.
“Awww… don’t be mean Johnny, you’ll hurt his feelings.” Pontius laughed, leaning over Savvy so he could see Knoxville.
Gina stood up rather shakily and managed to get two feet from her chair before falling straight into the pool. She, unlike everyone else, hated wearing bathing suits and hated swimming. Her brown Chucks appeared at the top of the water before the rest of her slowly rose to the surface. She opened her eyes and gasped.
“Oh, shit,” She screeched, scrambling for the edge of the pool. She was wearing a white tank top, that was leaving nothing to the imagination now that she was drenched.
“Nobody said nothing about a wet t-shirt contest,” Bam shouted, swimming toward Gina. He came up behind her and took her by the waist.
“Hey there. I think it may be a tit bit nipply out here… what do you say, Dunn?” Bam muttered, staring down at Gina
“I would have to agree,” Dunn replied from the side of the pool.
Bam laughed. “What do you think, Gina? Is it a tit bit nipply?” Bam asked, putting his hands on Gina’s shoulders.
Gina was trying to figure out why there were two Savvys above her on the pool deck and couldn‘t focus on Bam‘s question.. Bam put his face in Gina’s shoulder, whispering in her ear, sliding his hands down her arms, letting his fingertips graze her breasts.
Johnny finally noticed through bleary eyes that Gina was no longer occupying the seat next to him.
“Hey, where did Gina go?” Johnny stammered, standing up.
“No,” Gina mumbled, clumsily pulling away from Bam.
“What? What’s wrong? Nervous?” Bam asked, amazed at how far gone Gina was after only a few glasses of vodka.
He pulled her close, ignoring her mumbled protests, his hands flat on her stomach. Gina was shaking her head, pulling away from Bam, but getting nowhere. She was moving so slowly, her reflexes were so weak. With a sudden burst of strength, she pulled free of Bam, slipping over to the pool’s edge.
“Hey! Where are you going?” Bam muttered, lunging after her.
Gina cried out in frustration, swinging her arm out at Bam behind her.
Bam ducked it and Dunn laughed.
“Damn, Bam, not even a drunk as hell bitch wants anything to do with you!” Dunn laughed from the side of the pool. Embarrassed, Bam pushed Gina, not meaning to send her under the water.
“Dumb bitch,” Bam muttered.
Gina sank like a stone into the water. She lay at the bottom of the pool, only half aware of the fact that the water was above her.
Johnny had been looking around frantically for Gina, and finally heard her cry from the pool. He stumbled to the side of the water.
“Where’s Gina?” he asked Dunn.
“She went swimming,” Dunn replied, pointing to the middle of the pool.
Johnny frowned and tried to concentrate enough to see what Dunn was pointing to. He spied a Gina shape at the bottom of the pool.
“Is she alright?” Johnny asked.
“Yeah, yeah, she’ll be fine,” Dunn said, taking a swig out of a bottle.
“Shit,” Johnny muttered.
He clumsily climbed into the water, wading over to where Gina was lying at the bottom of the pool. He bent down and scooped her up, fear in his deep brown eyes. He pulled Gina’s limp form to the side of the pool, leaning her against it. She started coughing and he pinned her to the wall with his body to keep her from sinking back into the water.
“Gina?” he asked, staring into her face.
Gina’s eyes blinked open, unfocused. She wrapped her arms around Knoxville, pulling him close.
“I need a hug, buddy,” she slurred, completely out of it.
Knoxville’s breath caught in his throat. Every atom of his body was solely focused on the softness of Gina’s breasts pressed against his chest. Her nose was cold against his neck and he tried to force himself to think of something else, but it was no use. He pulled Gina away from him slightly, his hand cupping her cheek.
“Are you okay?” he asked softly.
“Don’t ask me questions, Tex, because I love you and always will,” she mumbled, laughing hysterically, not looking directly at Johnny.
Johnny tried not to laugh because Gina was so out of it.
“Do you want out of the pool?”
“What pool?” Gina asked.
Johnny laughed, the sound like a pistol shot.
“Come on, let’s get you out of the pool,” Johnny smiled. “Savvy? Pontius? Could I get a hand?”
Savvy and Pontius staggered over to Johnny and hoisted Gina out of the pool. They set her in a reclining lawn chair and wrapped some towels around her. She was shivering and mumbling to herself. Johnny pulled a lawn chair next to her and reclined it back. Gina looked over at Johnny.
“Daddy? Can I sit with you?” Gina asked, climbing out of her lawn chair and crawling next to Johnny in his.
“Uh, sure,” Johnny smiled, pulling Gina close.
She lay next to Johnny, her head on his chest.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Johnny asked.
Gina didn’t answer.
“Gina?”
Gina had already passed out, snoring slightly.
Johnny smiled and played with Gina’s hair, kissing her forehead. This felt so right. Gina’s head resting on his chest, her soft breathing sending sensational tingles down his spine. He sighed, wondering if this would ever happen if she were sober.
An hour later, many people were passed out. Karen had gone to bed not long after Bam started talking to her, knowing she would be ignored, no matter how long she complained.
“Okay guys, we need to stop, we’re running out of drinks, I’m totally out of pot, and most of you all are passed out.” Heather announced, throwing the empty bottles away.
Savvy was the only one besides her that could walk well.
“If you think you can make it to you room, get going, even if you have to walk, crawl, or roll there.” Savvy said.
Bam, Courtney, Kyle, and Preston all made their own way in. Pontius could have, but he wanted to wait for Savvy; Knoxville also wanted to wait so he could help put Gina to bed. That just left Steve-O, Dunn, Wee-Man, and Gina too incoherent to move.
“You gonna help me move everybody?” Heather said looking over at Savvy. Heather loved taking care of people, it made her feel important.
Savvy looked at her and nodded. They decided to take Gina in first. They found her sleeping soundly on Knoxville. Knoxville nodded when Savvy asked to move her, and together Heather and Savvy took each of Gina’s arms and put them over their shoulders. With the very drunk Gina between them, they walked into the house to her room. Knoxville was following close behind, running into walls.
They set her into bed as Johnny sat on the edge, watching her breathe.
“You just gonna chill here for a while Knoxville?” Heather asked. He nodded in response.
“Alright, but I know how guys can be… no funny business!” Savvy said, wagging her finger at Johnny.
“Scout’s oath, no funny business,” Johnny replied, smiling.
Savvy and Heather nodded, satisfied, and left the two in Gina’s room. Johnny watched Gina, amazed at how he wished this could last forever. Gina was laying still, breathing slowly and rhythmically. He bit his lip, torn between his feelings on wanting to kiss her and of not wanting to disturb her. Gina stirred, rolling over onto her side. Her face was next to Johnny’s knee, he could feel the heat from her slow breathing. He absently rubbed the hair from her face, with a smile. Gina snuggled up to Knoxville’s leg, still fast asleep.
“Mmmm….Johnny,” she mumbled, suddenly rolling over to her other side.
Johnny grinned. She was dreaming about him. He sighed when he realized he should leave her to her dreams, but the thought of going to his room alone was almost unbearable. All he would be doing in his room would be lying awake, wishing he were back here, listening to Gina sleep. Gina’s body slowly curled into the fetal position and she mumbled incoherently. Johnny had to fight every muscle in his body to keep from wrapping himself around her to keep her warm and safe. Why was he feeling this way about a girl he barely knew? A girl who seemed deathly embarrassed every time he touched her in public? Johnny shook his head to himself and gently stood off of Gina’s bed.
“Good night, Gina,” He whispered.
“Good night.”
Johnny stopped. “Are you awake?”
There was no response. Johnny stared at Gina a moment longer, to see if she would say anything else, but then sauntered away to his room.
Back outside, Heather and Savvy got Dunn and Wee-Man into bed, lastly dragging Steve-O into bed. Pontius followed Savvy’s every move, never taking his eyes off of her.
“I’m just gonna tuck him in, I got everything from here.” Heather said to Savvy, wanting her to leave, but trying not to be rude about it.
“Okay, good, I can finally get some sleep.” Savvy said, holding up Pontius who was just as tired as she was. They stepped out of Steve-O’s room, arm under arm and said their goodnights.
From inside the room, Heather stepped around Steve-O’s bed, pulling the clean white sheets up over him. He was so cute when he was sleeping. She sat on the edge of his bed and watched him for many long minutes. As she stood to leave he mumbled something incoherent; curious, she returned to his side to see what he said.
“Steve-O, what did you say?” she asked leaning down, her ear close to her mouth.
“Please don’t leave… you can stay in here and sleep with me.” He said in an almost inaudible, drunken whisper, trying to scoot over to make room for her.
Heather snorted, slightly amused, and run her hand over his forehead and down the side of his face. This was just the alcohol talking again. She turned to leave once more when Steve-O yanked on her arm, making her spin to him and he planted a kiss right on her lips.
Stunned she pulled away quickly. “You are such a prick!” She screamed at him, slamming the door behind her as she stormed out. Once outside she leaned with her back against the wall and covered her face with her hands. She slowly slid down till her butt was firmly on the floor and her knees were folded up against her chest.
Savvy and Pontius’ head peaked out from behind the same blue door. They both heard Heather’s outburst, which interrupted their conversation. Curious, they wanted to see what had happened.
“You okay Hiz?” Savvy asked sleepily, worried for her friend.
Heather peeked out from behind her hands. “Yeah, I’m fine… just tired.”
Savvy shrugged to Pontius as they both disappeared behind the door again, letting the latch close quietly. Sleep finally overcoming her, Heather fell to her side, her face still in her hands, and fell fast asleep in the hallway.
Back in Savvy's room, she and Pontius sat quietly on her bed, looking up at the stars on her ceiling. There was an awkward silence, before Pontius spoke.
"What do you think of me?" He posed the question to her, aching to know her answer.
Savvy thought hard, before turning to him. She was very drunk and tired, but she knew her answer mattered right now.
"I think you're the most handsome man I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I think that underneath the sarcastic front, and under your outer... jackass, you're smart, strong-willed, and funny. I think you're perfect."
Smiling at him for a minute, Savvy leaned in and gently put her lips to his, waiting for him to move. Groaning in appreciation, Pontius leaned forward and completed the kiss. It seemed forever that they stayed there, their lips locked, Savvy's hand caressing Pontius' long hair, his hand on her hip. When, finally, the need to breathe became adamant, they parted, staring into each other's eyes. Savvy, even in the heat of the moment, remembered something she'd always wanted to say after a kiss with so much passion. "You're going to be bad for business. I can tell."
Surprisingly, Pontius didn't laugh or look confused. He just smiled wider and kissed her again.
