Title: The Stick
Author: Alexandra
Rating: PG-13 (language, sexual references)
Genre: Wild and Crazy
Pairing: Basically Ka-yu x Yasu. Some Die x Shinya.
Comments: I can’t write this couple and have it not turn into utterly sappy romantic bullshit. Even I have to get it out of my system sometimes~ And if you can’t tell, Ka-yu is whipped, confused, and totally desperate.

~~~The Stick, The Stickboy, and A Nice Pair of Legs~~~
“You’re beautiful,” he whispered into the other man’s ear, holding him close.
“Mmmmm….say it again.”
“You’re beautiful….”
There was a husky, purring noise emitted from the blonde’s chest as he buried his face in the crook of his boyfriend’s neck.
“My my, aren’t we affectionate tonight…,” the magenta-haired man murmured with closed eyes, running his hands up the other man’s back and burying them in his honey gold hair.
Yasu sighed unintentionally and tightened his embrace.
“Why, do you think less of me when I’m this way?”
He turned his face so that his cheek rest on the other man’s shoulders, his lips moving lazily against the soft skin of unadorned flesh. If Ka-yu had ever known his lover to be the emotional type he may have heard the slight wavering in his voice.
“No, not at all…,” he said softly, keeping their bodies molded against one another’s. “It’s a pleasant change, you being nice to me for once…”
Ka-yu meant it too, although he didn’t like to be seen as a sentimental kind of person. He knew Yasu wouldn’t appreciate such an approach either, or at least that was the conclusion he had drawn. The truth was they shared very few moments like this, times when they could just be together, hold one another, and engage in the more tender behavior lovers were supposed to exhibit. Yasu was too much the lively sort, always playful and surprisingly rough despite having odds such as Ka-yu to go up against. Just when the bassist thought he had his boyfriend figured out, when he thought Yasu liked to be touched a certain way, or to be called a certain pet name, it seemed he was wrong; at times he wondered if the young man was bipolar when it came to his fancies in treatment. For as many times as he had heard heartfelt cries of “kiss me, kiss me”, he had heard “don’t touch me” or “don’t say that” just as often. If it was any other person, or more likely a female considering Ka-yu had never expressed an interest in men before, he would have lost his temper with such treatment a long time ago.
However, for the first time in his life, the man who mutilated his body at whim and attested to being everything a real man should be, was in love.
“Are you saying I’m mean?” Yasu retorted, bringing his head up a little.
“No, but you’re difficult.”
A fond smile played on his lips. Sometimes he wanted to crush his lover in his embrace to keep him from speaking, to keep him from fighting and rejecting his affection on any level. To keep him pinned against his breast as another show of body art, another badge to prove he was someone, that he had conquered something.
“I am not,” he asserted with a furrowing of his brows.
“Yes you are…but I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
Love, to Ka-yu, was like a disease. There was no denying it was a form of weakness, even though he had decided some time ago it was a weakness he wouldn’t mind having. Like an incurable virus it had entered his system and bred itself into every cell it could find, deleting their true functions and manipulating them for its own purposes. There were times when the disease was at its peak though, when the fever pitched and he moaned helplessly beneath the onslaught eating away at his insides. A good example would be like the one he could feel coming on, when Yasu would quarrel with him and be so damn difficult despite anything Ka-yu did to appease him. The exhaustion of the fever would take over no matter how hard his brain struggled to stay angry, body becoming weak and eventually forcing him to relent in hopes of lying down and having the other man soothe his illness with a cooling kiss. Too sick with love to fend off blows like he normally could, a part of him found it rather shameful.
His eyes opened as he felt the other man try and pull away from him, succeeding only in making a little distance between them and placing his hands on Ka-yu’s chest.
“You’re just saying that because you like me in bed. And exerting my masculinity does not make me difficult.”
Ka-yu wanted to sigh, to grit his teeth, but instead he found himself looking into a pair of eyes Praxiteles himself could have carved with their unique shape and intense gaze, rendering him humble with an aching in his heart.
“See, you’re getting wound up already…,” was all he could say, a calloused hand gently caressing his lover’s cheek.
He believed it to be at its worse in the quiet moments they shared after lovemaking, when there was no possible way Yasu could put up a fight, his body slick with sweat and gently panting beneath his own. It was then he could feel a heated passion stir within him, worse than even that of physical desire, take control of his being and keep him hovering over his sleepy lover, fiercely protective and full of a bloodlust he had never experienced before. Like he was rabid and his will not his own, everything depending upon the weak whispers of pleasure and smooth fingertips tracing patterns over his chest. If for a moment that look of hazy pleasure was to turn into something sharp and distinct, something ugly and at odds with him, Ka-yu felt he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from wrapping his wiry hands around the soft flesh of his lover’s neck and crushing until berry red pulp oozed between. Always Yasu fought him, always always always, and if he were to fight at such a sacred time…
“I am not!” the blonde exclaimed, eyes darkening . Yasu had one hell of a glare, that was for sure.
Ka-yu smiled, a smile of infinite patience. He brought their faces closer, touching his forehead against that of his lover’s as he spoke soothing words.
“Shhh Yasu…shhh, only teasing baby…”
Sometimes, he had the malicious urge to make Yasu as direly sick as he was, for it seemed the vocalist couldn’t be as terminally ill as himself with such behavior. He wanted to make him helpless with need and want, to see him lying in bed and begging for care so he knew what it felt like. The other man was a treatment but not a cure for Ka-yu’s own malady, hooking his insides and dragging him along at will. Addiction at it’s finest. However, he knew Yasu could become such a thing if only he were to stop these abstract, and at times not so abstract, games of resistance. Ka-yu had never encountered such a situation in any of his relationships before and it was driving him less than sane to say the least. It was dangerous, such a resistance…It made one apt to acting with little regard to one’s loved ones, and now that Ka-yu realized he did indeed want to be one of the vocalists “loved ones”, he wouldn’t stand for any of the scenarios he could imagine Yasu pulling in his head. Those scenarios had turned Ka-yu into a very jealous and protective man, and his inability to act on those feelings for fear of upsetting his lover left him aching and frustrated.
“Hnnn.”
Yasu averted his eyes.
“Aw, c’mon…,” his lover pleaded softly.
“…….Remind me of how beautiful I am.”
Ka-yu laughed, but a sense of relief swelled inside his chest, squelching the anger that had begun to rise.
“Never can get enough, can you….”
A saucy glint lit up the vocalist’s chocolaty eyes.
“You’d never be satisfied if I could big guy.”
“Hmm, touché.”
There was a brief laugh before lips met again, another long and bruising kiss taking precedence over everything else. It was only when Yasu glanced at the clock on the wall that the kiss was broken, his eyes widening in surprise.
“Oh shit, look at the time! And I’m only halfway dressed!”
Which was true. Ka-yu had gotten dressed some time ago, donning a rather sharp black suit and dress shirt with silver cufflinks and a crimson tie. Yasu had done his boyfriend's hair into its usual hair-sprayed spiked disarray, taking care to group the magenta together and the black together for a more dramatic look. He left Ka-yu to put on his own makeup, and surprisingly enough, the bassist proved rather proficient at it. He had paid more attention to being made up than the other men, especially since Ka-yu wasn’t too fond of his natural appearance to begin with. He’d put on a simple coat of gloss on his lips and a thick application of kohl and black eye shadow besides the usual foundation. Yasu, in the meantime, had been running around his apartment half-naked, fretting over what he was going to wear. They had both decided (or rather Yasu had decided and Ka-yu had consented) that the blonde was going to wear his favorite pair of leather pants, tight on the hips and thighs and flaring from the calf on down. In the midst of the two of them trying to find an appropriate top, a quick squeeze that soon escalated into a fondle, and then into an embrace, had halted the quest for the perfect top and the two had gotten lost in the exchange of just moments ago.
“Damn it I still don’t know what to wear!” Yasu cried, turning his back to his lover as he threw himself full force into his closet.
Ka-yu poked around in his pants pocket for a cigarette, knowing this could take awhile.
“Why don’t you wear that black top you have with the matching arm thingies?” he suggested, pulling a thin cigarette from its case. “The guys all said they were wearing black na.”
“Are you sure I won’t look too, I dunno, faggish in it?”
The response was muffled by the sounds of clothing being torn from hangers.
“C’mon baby, look at what you’re up against -- half of them look like women without the makeup on and more than half of them’ll arrive with a man on their arm. Toshiya thinks he’s the gods’ gift to glam and Miyabi thinks he’s the gods’ gift to everyone. Mana thinks he’s Queen Victoria reincarnated vampire style and Gackt, heaven forbid he attend, thinks he’s the Original Playboy incarnate. Somehow I doubt you’ll be the only one who looks ‘faggish’,” the bassist stated with a smirk on his lips. He inhaled the cigarette smoke deeply.
A laugh could be heard from the depths of the closet.
“Besides, you’ll be with me….When you’re taken you can look as queer as you want.”
“Oooo, is that a promise? I’ll remember that next time your father comes to visit you ne~~” Yasu sang while emerging from his wardrobe with the recommended top in hand.
His boyfriend snorted.
“That wasn’t what I meant anyways,” he added while holding the top against his chest and looking at himself in the mirror. “You know, I’m worried about what the guys will think.”
Their eyes met, Yasu’s face suddenly becoming serious. Ka-yu blew smoke out in a rather longwinded sigh.
This was yet another problem they’d had since they’d started dating -- whether or not to tell the rest of Janne da Arc about their nighttime (and quite frequently daytime) activities. As obvious as Yasu seemed about his preferences outside the band, among his band mates all of his perversion, much like Ka-yu’s, was aimed at the female of the species. Mind you, he didn’t deny it, but the opportunity rarely presented itself where he could say “check out that guy’s ass” and not have it seem like the most awkward thing in the world. Yasu had just begun to assume the band knew what was up, but all of them were too polite (about the only thing on Earth Janne was polite about) to comment on it. They didn’t really talk about women besides dirty jokes and mindless chauvinism anyways, so he didn’t expect anything about love or the nature of love, or the nature of love and the issue of fanservice, or however one liked to go about stating one liked to screw the same sex, to come about. In that respect the guys were very Japanese -- your private life was your private life and that’s the way it stayed. You didn’t act on your feelings, whether they be gay or straight, in the workplace, no matter how obscure the work place might be. Yasu didn’t necessarily agree with that notion, but it was comfortable enough. And as for Ka-yu, practically the source of testosterone for the band, no one even bothered questioning his sexuality. That just seemed stupid, even for a bunch of guys who never tired of masturbation references or picking their noses in front of the camera at every chance they got. The thought of Ka-yu with any guy, let alone their vocalist, seemed rather absurd, even bordering on creepy.
“Eh, what about it,” the bassist replied a bit more calmly than Yasu expected.
“Well I mean, what if they freak?” he retorted, slipping the tight pleather tank top over his head with a little difficulty, “It’s going to be pretty damn obvious, especially if you force me to drink, that we’re fucking each other, don’t you think?”
There was something undeniably dirty, yet horribly sexy, about the way the blonde said “fucking”. A slight flush of arousal graced Ka-yu’s cheeks. He started examining something other than his boyfriend getting dressed.
“Hnn, maybe. I wouldn’t worry about it. Worst comes to worse what, they’ll want to pick a fight about it, and I ain’t too worried about that.”
Yasu’s head finally popped through the top triumphantly.
“Hey, you’re the one hiding it from your damn family.”
He looked accusingly at Ka-yu.
“How am I supposed to know how you’d react?”
There was another contest of will again before Ka-yu stubbed out his cigarette a little more forcefully than necessary.
“You always gotta bring that up?” he asked quietly, grabbing the forearm coverings off of the chair near Yasu and motioning for him to hold out his arms.
“Maybe I do.”
Ka-yu could feel the anger that he had managed to smother earlier bristling down his spine at that tone.
Such a way with tone and inflection, he thought as he took a hold of one of his lover’s pale arms tightly, that cheeky voice of his he never hesitates to use with me…
“Maybe you shouldn’t,” Ka-yu found himself murmuring unintentionally.
“What the fuck, I think I have a right to; like you’re ashamed of me lying to your old man like that!” Yasu continued unabashedly, flipping his hair behind his ear as the black covering was slipped on.
“Drop it baby, you know that’s not the case.”
“Oh like Shiv--”
“I said drop it Yasu!” the bassist nearly snarled, his grip tightening as he steadied Yasu’s other arm to continue dressing him.
Had he had the spite in him to look at his boyfriend’s face, Ka-yu might have noticed the way Yasu struggled not to flinch at his voice. The two became silent.
Ka-yu removed his hands, Yasu now fully dressed.
“….Are you done with your makeup?” the bassist finally asked, lighting up another cigarette.
“Hai.”
“There’s no hurry if you want to check it again….”
“I’m fine,” Yasu said quietly. “We can leave whenever you want to.”
Silence, and a large hand hesitantly reaching out to stroke golden strands.
“Tonight will be fun….we need the relaxation, na?”
“Un…”
He angled his face to place a gentle kiss on unpierced lips.
“Let’s go then Beautiful.”
There was a murmur of agreement as their lips parted.
Ka-yu took his hand and Yasu followed, eyes averted and jaw clenched beneath his honey-colored hair.
~*~
“Queer.”
“Queer.”
“Straight.”
“Queer.”
“Str-no wait, make that queer,” he amended as the man placed a kiss on the neck of the man beside him.
“Oooooh! You so nearly blew your record!” Shuji laughed.
Janne da Arc, minus their vocalist and bassist, were currently engaged in an exciting round of “Guess a Woman, Guess a Man, Guess a Mana” that had turned into “Who’s a Homo?” while waiting for the other two to show up. The party was providing ample fuel for both games and they found it highly amusing.
“Man, how do you expect anyone to keep their record straight in a place like this?” You exclaimed.
“Yeah Shuji, you should be impressed he hasn’t blown it by now,” Kiyo said with a nod, discreetly stealing an hors d'oeuvre from Shuji’s plate and moving it on to his own. He’d run out awhile ago because damn, he hadn’t expected the appetizers to taste this good.
“Speaking of which, where the hell are Yasu and Ka-yu? You think they’d have the decency to show up before we all got plastered,” the guitarist complained, looking at his empty glass.
“I can think of what they’re up to,” Kiyo muttered to himself, crunching on a few peanuts.
“Hmm, it is already 8:15…”
“I know, and I was all excited to show them we’re so important we got our own booth…It’s getting old now!”
Shuji plucked a little plastic sword from one of the hors d’oeuvres left and flicked it across the table, making Kiyo eye the remaining ham and cheese roll nervously.
“Ooo ooo! Ex-Mana!” You suddenly cried, pointing at a group of three men in matching tuxedos who were walking by.
“Who?”
“Dude, that’s so Emiru and what used to be Lareine~”
You crossed his arms over his chest with satisfaction.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Shuji agreed after squinting a bit. “He sure looks different as a guy though…You’re way too good at this game You-kun.”
“Anything we should know?” Kiyo teased.
The brunette snorted.
“Hell no! Wouldn’t be caught dead trying to impersonate a woman. Or pleasing a man like one,” he added with a slightly disgusted look on his face.
“Nanchatte, nanchatte,” the drummer countered, smiling as he flicked a peanut at You for fun.
“Just saying man, you don’t want to joke about that kind of stuff around here,” the brunette continued, tactfully blocking a blow to the forehead with his hand, “never know who’ll take a fancy for you.”
“I dunno, some of these guys look better than my ex,” Shuji grumbled as a particularly sultry “waitress” strutted by. He noticed the drummer staring and blew him a kiss.
“Queer!” Kiyo called cheerfully. “Queer and a skank, I think I should get bonus points for that or something.”
The three of them snickered as the din of the dance hall increased, a sense of anticipation and impatience growing stronger amongst all the guests. Waitresses fluttered about passing out drinks and eating up all the attention they could get while various Dir en grey members ran around settling last minute affairs and the likes. Guests continued to arrive one after another until nearly all the booths around Janne’s were full. The three members present kept glancing at their watches uneasily, afraid two of the most prominent figures in their band had decided to hit the sauce earlier that night and completely forgotten about tonight’s affair. However, the glances between Kiyo and Shuji were of a slightly different nature, the both of them fairly sure of the conclusion they had come to earlier in the week needed no reassessing. Yasu and Ka-yu arriving together and arriving together late wasn’t helping their deduction.
Kiyo and Shuji looked at one another again. Then they looked to You, who was yet another male angling for an eyeful of Shuse’s date.
They were definitely dreading tonight.
It had started out as a joke one day after practice. Yasu had been rather frisky that day, excited about a new song he had written, shaking his hips a little more than usual as he sang. In his exuberance, on the last run of the song, the refrain “Venus Neo Venus” had suddenly switched to “Venus - Fansaabisu!” and Yasu had turned and glomped an unsuspecting Ka-yu with a wide smile and a wet kiss. The bassist had cursed and pushed him off with a laugh, everyone else getting equally as big a kick out of it. Yasu declared practice was over and latched back onto his friend, demanding that Ka-yu drive his biggest fan home. Not too big a deal. But Shuji and Kiyo had found themselves joking about it as they went to grab a bite to eat. What if Yasu really was keen on Ka-yu, how funny would that be? He was kind of sketchy with his sexuality to begin with. Or wait, wait, how funny would it be if Yasu was keen on Ka-yu and Ka-yu was keen back? That would be fucking crazy they’d said. Yasu and Ka-yu kissing on a regular basis? Yasu and Ka-yu fucking on a regular basis?! What would the world be coming to! And yet, the more they joked about Yasu in an apron and Ka-yu demanding his nightly beer, the more it seemed less like a joke and more like reality. And then when they began shifting through the evidence and the incidents, it seemed way too coincidental that when Yasu was unreachable, so was Ka-yu, that when Ka-yu wanted to have a smoke break, so did Yasu, and so forth…It became painfully obvious that once you got over the hurdle of its initial impossibility, Yasu and Ka-yu were probably acting out their own version of fanservice when no one was around. Both the keyboardist and the drummer liked a good mystery, and while the issue of if Ka-yu was banging Yasu (or if Yasu was banging Ka-yu -- this would be the current debate they were having) seemed like it was on the verge of being solved, they were still intent on their roles as impartial investigators. Tonight they believed the questions to all their answers would be solved, but with what consequences they weren’t too sure - they were completely sure that if their hunch was correct though, a certain guitarist was going to find the whole situation very, very uncool.
As if on cue, a rather snowed-on Yasu and Ka-yu plopped down in the booth.
“It’s so fucking COLD!” Yasu whined as he preened the snow out of his hair.
Ka-yu was brushing the snow out of his hair as well, his coat having been dealt with at the door.
“Yeah no shit guys, sorry about that,” he apologized, “it started snowing really badly by the time we’d stepped into a cab.”
“Have we missed anything?”
“Only if you count the mounting melodrama amongst the guests as something,” You volunteered, handing a napkin to Yasu to wipe the white slush away with.
“Yeah, you guys so missed it!” Kiyo interjected in an animated tone, “You shoulda seen when Pierrot came in -- whole damn world seemed to step aside from Kirito, like he was diseased or something. I think the rumors about him being crazy are right.”
Shuji nodded.
“Sou ya sou ya, and then Mana came in dressed like the Princess Bride and they’ve got a bunch of indies boys playing waitress like a bunch of whipped bitches. It’s wild~”
“Waaa but nothing’s happened right? Has Kyo said anything?” the blonde asked while beckoning for a waitress to come over. A calm looking boy in glasses approached promptly and took an order for another round of drinks.
“Nah, we haven’t even seen Kyo yet, so you haven’t missed anything.”
“Kyo or any other Dir member besides Kaoru and Die at the door,” You added.
“Tte iu no wa, that Die guy was totally giving me the evil eye,” Yasu spat, clearly offended, “like I wasn’t invited to the damn party to begin with. The jerk.”
“Eh? That’s kinda weird…” Kiyo offered absently, attention on the stage. “I heard he was a nice guy…”
“And I heard Kirito was sane, so we’re even.”
The waitress came back and set the glasses carefully on the table, then took his leave. Ka-yu kicked back in the booth once his whiskey sour arrived, arm reaching along the back of the booth and loosely around his boyfriend at the same time.
“Hmmm, well it seems like something’s going on backstage at any rate,” he commented after taking a drink.
Kiyo coughed, a signal to get Shuji to look at Ka-yu’s move and one to divert You’s attention.
“Speaking of which, look at the stage! I think something’s finally gonna happen ne.”
Everyone turned their attention to the stage at Kiyo’s comment, ready to see what the hell was in store for the night.
The crimson curtains were ruffling as the lights went dim. Spotlights suddenly illuminated the red of the rich fabric and they swept apart dramatically, revealing a lone guitarist standing in the middle of the stage, a dazzling white smile of nervousness highlighting his face. There were some murmurs amongst the crowd as various band members commented on Die’s attire. Instead of a more extravagant suit many were hoping to see, especially those that had seen the pics of Die’s snakeskin suit he donned for the tour, the guitarist was wearing a simple, yet handsome tuxedo instead. The coat was short, accenting the V-shape of his slender body, with a black vest with dark red paisley print that glinted in the light when he moved. His pants were less tapered than they would be traditionally, also a little longer to accompany the fairly high heels of the black leather shoes he was wearing. The ruby colored strands of his hair were half spiked and half slicked down though, maintaining some of his usual bravado. Overall, he looked more masculine and imposing than most of the other guests, face devoid of makeup save for a little lining around the eyes.
He coughed a bit into his hand, then brought the mike to his lips.
“This should be good,” Ka-yu murmured loud enough for the whole table to hear.
“Ladies and gentleman, may I please have your attention~”
The din gradually died down and the harassing of various waitresses stopped as well.
“Konbanwa! First let me thank you for all showing up,” Die began with a big smile on his face. “I know the weather isn’t at its most pleasant tonight so we truly thank you for you attendance.”
Yasu snorted and prodded the damp, scrunched up napkin lying before him on the table.
“We’ve got various entertainment lined up for tonight and a reputable DJ here to fill the gap between performances, so feel free to dance at whim ne.”
Applause.
“Score -- dancing!” the blonde said with a smirk, turning his gaze to his boyfriend. Ka-yu gave him a reproachful look but Yasu just turned his gaze elsewhere with a smug grin on his lips, despite moving his body closer to the other’s. Shuji took note of the subtle movement.
“For our first----”
There was some commotion from offstage and Die tilted his head to listen better, grinning uneasily.
“What I meant to say was,” he began again, “as you all know, tonight’s festivities would be in honor of our, um, beloved vocalist Kyo.”
More applause.
“‘Um, beloved vocalist Kyo’?” You was less than impressed. “When you have to say it like that, you know something’s up…”
“Totally. ‘Nother Kirito.”
Back on the stage it seemed like someone was signaling to Die behind the curtains fairly frantically.
“Kyo, why don’t you---Ah, I’m sorry about this folks,” the guitarist said anxiously, bowing as he sidestepped his way offstage quickly.
The guests waited patiently for about 5 seconds before someone vocalized discontent.
“Why isn’t Shinya the MC??”
Die thrust his hand back into view and signaled for one more moment.
“Yeah, why isn’t Shinya up there?” another guest yelled in disappointment.
“Yeah, you suck Die!” Yasu stood up and yelled before his band dragged him back down, trying to kill their giggling at the same time.
A flash of red could be seen as Die whipped his head back into view, eyebrows furrowed in displeasure as he heard that, but whatever was going on backstage dragged his attention back to the situation.
“We want Shinya! We want Shinya!”
Janne’s vocalist wisely decided not to join the chant on that one, but inwardly cheered along with everyone. No one made evil eyes at Yasu and got away with it.
“Whoa, look!” Kiyo exclaimed, pointing to the doors. He was fairly perceptive when it came to noticing things first. “Kyo wasn’t even here and they were trying to start the damn thing!”
Janne da Arc stared at the door as one, the rest of the guest having noticed as well. A sea of murmurs flooded the dance hall, J-rockers angling their heads so that they too could see if the guest of honor had just shown up.
No mistaking the small, yet imposing figure walking towards the glass double doors. It was Kyo.
He was bundled beneath a seemingly oversized fur coat, snow crusted on his shoulders and straw blonde hair that was already slicked down by gel. Multicolored fur brushed against his cheeks as he walked hunched forward with his hand thrust in his pockets, whether from the cold or something else one couldn’t tell. He didn’t bother stopping to pass his coat to the waiting bellboy but went straight to the doors to the dance hall, as if he expected to walk in and melt into the surroundings with no questions asked.
“Kyo!” Die suddenly yelled in surprise and then covered his mouth, realizing he’d shouted into the mike. He had stuck his head out again to cut the chant off only to see the vocalist making his way into the building.
“Yep, you were right Kiyo-meister. Yappari Kyo da~” Shuji nodded.
“How about a big round of applause for the birthday boy!” Die cried, extremely relieved as he walked back onstage and gestured towards the entrance.
There was a momentary pause of confusion and consultation amongst the guests.
“You’re much cuter for a short guy,” Yasu leaned over and teased Kiyo, who promptly grinned and rolled his eyes. Janne began to clap amongst themselves since they were quick to celebrate whatever they could, and other bands began doing the same thing.
The room resounded with thunderous applause as Kyo stopped in his tracks, obviously not expecting such a welcome. It seemed as if he really were frozen solid for a moment as he stared back at the amount of people in the room. Suddenly Toshiya appeared by his side, smiling and bowing to everyone as he grabbed a hold of Kyo’s arm and led him out of sight.
“So let’s begin tonight’s lineup!” Die continued, smile a little more genuine now that he wasn’t going to get torn to shreds by the rest of his band. “I’m proud to present the first band of the night, B’z!!”
“Oh my god, B’z!”
You stood up in shock, much like a more unlikely member of another band had in the background.
The rest of Janne looked at him in surprise.
“Koshi kakko ii!” someone called behind them and You was stirred to the cause.
“You rock Tak!!” he cried before he knew what he was doing, minimal difference between himself and the rabid fangirls at their own concerts. The guys around him began to laugh.
Koshi and Tak made their way onto the stage with smiles and waves, a mic in the brunette’s hand and a guitar slung about the other man’s body. Die clapped and welcomed them onto the stage, exchanging a few polite comments about how great it was for them to show up and the likes, and they reciprocated, the band finishing setting up in the background. Grateful to have the attention taken off of him, the redhead gave the older men a few more notions of good luck and then hurriedly made his way of the stage. Koshi and Tak immediately began waving to the audience as Die left, although the vocalist's smile wavered upon scanning the crowd.
"Ten to one no one told them what kind of concert they were going to be playing," Kiyo whispered to no one in particular, although Ka-yu grinned widely.
The two exchanged a few words before Koshi took a deep breath and brought the mike to his lips.
“Minna-san, genki?”
"Genki!" You yelled back happily.
There was somewhat of a stir and some rather enthusiastic cheering from random closet B’z fans.
“B’z desu!!!” Koshi yelled enthusiastically. “Let’s get this show on the road!”
There was more of a stir as the random closet B’z fans threatened their band mates into showing their appreciation.
“This is our latest single, Ultra Soul~”
The music started up and Tak hit the chords, Koshi beginning to pace across the stage in his tank-top and jeans.
"So what, are we supposed to sit here and watch or get up and mosh or what?" Shuji asked, poking at his empty plate with a toothpick.
"You're supposed to pay homage dammit -- you guys don't realize how great a guitarist Tak really is!"
The other members of Janne exchanged glances, You too caught up in his admiration to notice or care.
"I think this is our cue to find another source of entertainment," Ka-yu murmured.
"Amen to that," Yasu agreed, a knowing smile lighting up his face as he discreetly put his hand on the bassist's thigh. The two held each other's eyes in a manner that made Shuji and Kiyo wonder if Yasu was pregnant with the way Ka-yu was affectionately gazing at him, but they kept their mouths shut and observed.
The blonde winked and leaned down to take a sip from his drink, already in flirt mode as Koshi began to sing in the background.
Dore dake ganbarya ii, dareka no tame na no?
You began murmuring the lyrics to himself, his back turned to the rest of his band as he watched the stage. Shuji and Kiyo felt vaguely uncomfortable, not really big fans of B'z and not really fans of groping on each other either, so they were forced to keep to themselves and continue to glance around idly at the other guests. Ka-yu leaned closer to his boyfriend, something on the table having caught his eye.
"Are you drinking soda, Yasu?" he asked, bringing his arm down around the other man's waist.
Ketsumatsu bakari ni ki wo torare Kono toki o tanoshimenai memai...
[Always setting hopes on the result I can't enjoy the happiness of this moment]
".....Why?"
He smiled as he spoke, tone coy yet covering a trickle of nervousness.
"I thought you said you'd drink tonight for once?"
Ka-yu's voice changed from the higher pitch it hit when he wasn't half asleep to something more subdued.
"Mou, Yu-kun...," Yasu began in a whining voice, suddenly deciding he needed a cigarette and didn't have to maintain eye-contact. This was Yasu's tactic for avoiding oncoming conflict, although his boyfriend had yet to realize it.
"Baby, you said you'd drink with me tonight...," he gave the other's waist a gentle squeeze with his arm, "C'mon, let's go get you a drink at the bar and check this place out."
"But Ka-yu...."
Yasu felt himself being tugged on.
"Maa, ii ya. C'mon baby."
Yume janai are mo kore mo, sono te de door wo akemashou Shukufuku ga hoshii no nara, kanashimi o shiri, hitori de nakimashou Soshite kagayaku Ultra Soul~~~~
[Everything is not dreams, open the door with those hands If you wish for happiness First find out what suffering is, go and cry on your own And then let that ultra soul shine!]
Ka-yu slid out of the booth and stood up patiently, a smile on his face. His boyfriend looked at the other band members to see if they had registered those last few exchanges, but You remained just as oblivious and Shuji and Kiyo wisely pretended to be critiquing Koshi's energy for his age.
Janne's vocalist lit his cigarette and took another sip from his Sprite, trying not to rip a hole in the straw with his teeth. A moment passed and he found himself sliding out of the booth obediently, taking a hold of Ka-yu's proffered arm.
Onore no genkai ni, kizuita tsumori kai? Kasuri kizu sae mo nai mama owarisou
[This is my limit; do you plan to notice it at all? Even when I get hurt and then end up with nothing]
"You know, I don't see what the big deal is....Do you want me to get drunk all by my lonesome?" he teased, whispering into an ear hidden by golden locks.
Yasu took a drag from his cigarette, looking around the crowd as they made their way to the bar. He noted a woman adorned in lilac standing there and talking to a few men, a healthy portion of her leg exposed by the slit in her dress. His eyes narrowed a bit in discontent.
"You have nicer legs than anyone here baby, so you needn't stare at the poor thing like you want to rip her head off," Ka-yu said with a smirk, at times able to read Yasu's jealousy like an open book.
The blonde gave a small laugh, his gaze distant as he answered the previous question.
Ichiban daiji na hito ga hora Itsudemo anata o miteru I can tell
[The most important person for me I can always tell whenever I look at you]
"I just don't like liquor, I've told you that...I don't like the way I act when I get drunk."
"And neither should you," he added as they walked up to the marble bar counter. A couple of other guests had recognized them and exchanged a few greetings.
Ka-yu bared his crooked teeth as he laughed at a comment a friend made about being lucky to have an ass like Yasu's to call his own, and Yasu promptly cursed good naturedly back at the man. It was a few minutes before they could talk just to each other again.
Yume janai are mo kore mo, ima koso mune wo harimashou Shukufuku ga hoshii no nara, sokonashi no pain, mukaete agemashou Soshite tatakau Ultra Soul
[Everything is not dreams, so hold your head high at once If you wish for happiness First go and face that endless pain And then let that ultra soul fight!]
"How would I know how you behave to begin with?" Ka-yu said offhandedly while waving for the bartender's attention. "I'm sure everyone knows but me with the way you always refuse to booze with me."
Yasu's teeth clenched again and he stopped looking at their reflection in the mirror at the back of the bar.
"It's okay to loosen up around me you know, and I'll stop anything bad from happening to you if that's what you're worried about."
A glass clinked down in front of the blonde but he refused to look at it, trying to control his emotions.
Ka-yu looked to him with a smile, but there was apprehension in his eyes about Yasu's behavior. All he wanted to do was to have an evening with his lover in which they didn't fight and Yasu actually behaved as if he loved him back. In his experience, liquor was normally the best bet when it came to bringing out cuddly touchy-feely behavior in most people, and he presumed his boyfriend to be the same. Maybe Yasu was afraid of getting sloppy in front of him, or too emotional, or too something, but that was something he'd gladly deal with to get the response he wanted. And it wasn't as if Yasu had never drank -- Both Shuji and You had mentioned drinking with him before and it hurt Ka-yu that Yasu wouldn't do the same with him, especially when he knew it was something the bassist enjoyed.
Kibou to shitsubou ni asobarete kitae nukareru
Do it, do it, do it… [Play around between hopes and disappointments You will excel out of this training, do it, do it, do it, do it!]
"I hope You is enjoying this song because I fucking hate it," Yasu hissed under his breath and grabbed the glass Ka-yu had offered him, ignoring the straw and gulping a good majority of it down in a sudden motion.
His boyfriend didn't hear that comment, a warm smile spreading on his lips as he watched the other man set the glass back down.
Yume janai are mo kore mo, ima koso mune wo harimashou Shukufuku ga hoshii no nara, yorokobi wo shiri paatto baramake Honto darake are mo kore mo, sono mattada naka, abarete yarimashou Soshite habataku Ultra Soul ! Ultra Soul !
Shuji and Kiyo stared at one another, a silent dare to see who would say what first.
There was one word on both their minds as B'z blared in the background.
Gay.
There was no doubt about that now.
"And it's Ka-yu banging Yasu if my powers of clairvoyance serve me correct," Kiyo said quietly with a weird look of humor and disbelief etched into his face. "I can't believe Yasu would just listen to him like that...OurYasu, just get up and follow him like that.....They must be in love or something..."
"And to think they told us not to bring dates! Hypocrites," Shuji spat absently, trying to get the image of what Ka-yu and Yasu might look like having sex out of his head.
"Who's a hypocrite?" You asked happily. "Man, Ultra Soul is such a great song, isn't it?
Two pairs of dark eyes fixed on their extremely content guitarist oozing fan adoration out of his ears. He had turned around to attend to his drink for a bit.
"Uh, no one's a hypocrite You," Kiyo answered with a playful smile and a wave dismissing it. "Go back to watching your crappy band."
"Urusei! Don't make me kick your pudgy ass Kiyo~" he laughed. "But seriously, who brought dates and who's a hypocrite?"
He looked rather innocent, or dumb, whichever way you wanted to see it, his contact coated eyes wide with excitement and a grin on his face.
"Anooo...."
Kiyo turned to Shuji for help.
"C'mon, you guys never tell me anything, whispering behind my back like that! You're just as bad as Yasu and Ka-yu when they get going."
Shuji looked at the keyboardist helplessly, the words “get going” having conjured another image of Ka-yu talking dirty to Yasu that made his face scrunch weirdly for a few seconds. Morality was telling them to enlighten their friend for friendship's sake, while the evil forces of logic were telling them it was not the smartest move in the playbook.
"Well, you see You, when uh, two people love each other..," Kiyo began hesitantly, briefly looking at the ceiling for divine inspiration at how to let one know their friends were into sodomy.
You looked blankly at him, laughing a bit.
"What the hell are you talking about Kiyo?"
"Ka-yu's fucking Yasu," Shuji suddenly blurted out, hoping saying it out loud would make the images go away.
Just then, Ultra Soul finished and there was a minute of silence.
Kiyo and Shuji smiled nervously.
"Yay B'z! You rock Tak!" Kiyo stood up and yelled, clapping enthusiastically, grabbing Shuji and dragging him upward to do the same.
"Uh, B'z forever!!" Shuji cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled.
Other guests soon began applauding and the dance hall was filled with a mild roar again.
"Shit shit shit shit shit," Shuji mumbled under his breath, You still staring blankly ahead at where his two band members had been sitting before they stood up.
Eventually the din died down and they had no excuse not to sit back down. Kiyo briefly considered bolting for the restroom, but he knew Shuji would follow and if Yasu and Ka-yu came back and had to deal with You alone things could get ugly.
"Sankyuu!!" Koshi said from the stage, breathing a little heavier. "This next one's kind of old but maybe you guys know it.....Liar Liar!"
The band started up again and the guys knew they had to sit down or make a run for it, one or the other.
You looked up at them.
"Who did you say Ka-yu was fucking? Yasuko?"
Slowly the two men sat down. Liar Liar was sounding like a better decision every second.
Kiyo took a deep breath. Better he hear it from them than to catch Ka-yu with his hand down Yasu's pants...
"Okay, listen You. Basically, we found out that Ka-yu and Yasu have been, uh, 'seeing each other' for lack of a better term. We know you probably won't be cool with it, but I don't think you should make a big deal about it. I mean, we're all friends, and they're adults right? And they're not harming anyone, so..."
"And it's better for fanservice," Shuji added helpfully.
"....Yeah, something like that, so....I mean, I really think they've been good about it, and fairly discreet, so if they get a little frisky at this party, don't freak okay? Or don't say anything...You know they wouldn't try and upset you on purpose right? You've known Yasu and Ka-yu for a long time naa..."
Kiyo held his breath and looked at You, who was looking at the table.
"You?"
"......Did you just say they were fucking? As in, they're gay?" he asked, as if he had misheard the majority of that.
"Well, close enough...Less than straight at the very least.”
You was quiet.
"Hey man, it's no big deal right? Nothing to get upset about really...."
You was still quiet.
"Sou sou, they're still the same great perverts we know and love," Shuji attested.
There seemed like a horrible silence despite the chatter of guests and the concert going on. You was no longer smiling, nor did he look like he cared about B'z with the way his brows were creasing ever so slowly, as if he were concentrating on something.
After a time, he spoke, B'z having already moved onto the next song.
"So, Ka-yu and Yasu have anal sex. Ka-yu shoves himself up Yasu's ass. Maybe he puts his tongue there."
He looked a little perplexed as he brought his gaze back to a nervous Kiyo and Shuji.
"And I'm the only one who finds this disgusting?"
Kiyo and Shuji glanced at one another. Those words seemed rather foreboding.
"Well," Kiyo faltered, "well, it isn't whether we find it disgusting or not, I mean, it's not like we're into anal sex ourselves, but I don't think that's the issue..."
"Then what the fuck is the issue? I guess I really don't know, seeing as I was under the impression that Yasu and Ka-yu were fucking women like the rest of us, and not each other, and since I was under a false impression, I feel like I've kind of been LIED TO."
By now the displeasure was clear on the guitarist's face.
"How long have you guys known? And why the hell aren't you grossed out??? Since when has it been cool to be gay in our band?!"
Both the drummer and the keyboardist were at a loss for words, regretting they had said anything to begin with. They weren't even drunk and things were going downhill.
"Since when has it been cool to be gay period??? I don't believe this," he said angrily. "It's a little early for April Fool's jokes but if it wasn't ha ha you got me. I mean, there's no way. There's no way Ka-yu's gay. Maybe Yasu, but not Ka-yu. Ka-yu's had girlfriend after girlfriend since he joined this band, right? No fucking way. Ka-yu's a guy just like the rest of us and he likes women and I won't believe otherwise."
He crossed his arms.
"And Yasu, I don't care how fruity he can be, he's had girlfriends too. And he joins in all those jokes we have! I don't know what you guys have been smoking, but you're wrong. There's just no way. You shouldn't fuck with people about this kind of stuff guys, it isn't funny."
"You, we're not trying to be funny," Kiyo began calmly, "we just thought you should know before you found out on your own and got even angrier with all of us...."
You opened his mouth to snap something back, but just then Ka-yu and Yasu walked back to the booth.
"Hey guys, what's up?"
The bassist looked cheerful as he held another whiskey sour in one hand and had his other arm wrapped around his boyfriend's waist. Yasu stood there quietly, smiling weakly as he held his own glass of liquor in one hand and had his other arm wrapped around his waist right above Ka-yu's.
You stared at the two of them, ready to get them to counter Kiyo and Shuji's bizarre accusations before his eyes settled on Ka-yu's arm.
Just before Kiyo and Shuji could register the repercussions of Yasu standing there with a glass of liquor in his hand, You suddenly stood up and left the booth, a soundless cry of "wait!" coming from Shuji two seconds too late.
"What's up with him?" Ka-yu asked as he motioned Yasu to sit back down in the booth.
Janne's keyboardist watched You head for the restrooms over his shoulder and then looked back to Yasu, who didn't seem to acknowledge anything but the glass he was holding with sullen interest. Shuji smiled nervously and began ripping apart his napkin unconsciously.
"Oh, nothing," Kiyo answered cheerfully.
"'Kay."
Ka-yu kicked back in the booth and began idly talking to Yasu about the guy who played bass currently for B'z.
Kiyo pursed his lips for lack of any other action coming to mind and Shuji continued to maim his napkin.
Trouble was brewing.
It was hard for him to keep his eyes off of the other man, although he wasn’t entirely sure why that was so. At first he knew the guitarist hadn’t noticed his gaze, but now the soft eyes were discreetly holding his own, as if questioning why he was being scrutinized the way he was. Quiet and decorous he sat beside his lover, close but not touching, although anyone who observed his body language could tell he was greatly in love with the man who sat beside him. He seemed almost nervous that he was staring back rather than gazing at his boyfriend, eyes darting to the impassive face beside his every so often to make sure there were no signs of displeasure before continuing to look back at him in inquiry and what seemed to be a sliver of fascination too.
Yasu blushed, but not because they were exchanging looks of lust or attraction. He blushed because he could envision himself being the other man, and that stirred too many emotions within him for his body not to react in some form or fashion.
Aiji was what he knew a part of him wanted more than anything to be, the part of him that melted when he felt a man’s body on top of his own, when he heard words of command and control that let him relinquish to role of decision making if only for a moment. He knew how good it could feel to play submissive when the opportunity arose, how good moments like right now felt, Ka-yu’s arm wrapped protectively around his waist still as he made absurd jokes with Shuji and occasionally pulled him closer out of habit. He had found he liked being embraced rather than doing it, and if he could get away with it with his own sex then so be it. But Yasu was also keenly aware that “playing submissive” was all he was doing nowadays, Aiji’s paradox of complete ease and nervousness in his mannerisms proof enough of the sensations and emotions he should be feeling but wasn’t -- anger, frustration, and resentment all too often taking their place instead.
He averted his eyes for a moment, eyebrows furrowing as Aiji’s questioning gaze became to much to handle. He knew what the other man wanted to know, shy and yet so eager at to learn at the same time.
Are you like me?
Do you feel the same things I do when he looks at you, talks to you? Makes love to you?
Would you do anything for him, would you follow him blindly, even if it entailed hurting yourself in the process?
Yasu wanted to close his eyes and ignore those questions that echoed about his head, the voice of the guitarist unknown to him and yet conveyed vividly enough through his eyes to be imagined. Reassurance was what he wanted, that another man could feel the same things he did to the same extent he did; to know if Yasu was of his kind or merely looking at him in distaste and incomprehension. It pained him to hear those questions, and he wondered if Aiji were looking to him because he understood Yasu wanted to say yes but couldn’t. Could a stranger understand such things from merely a glance? Was empathy really that strong a force?
He found his eyes trailing back upwards to see if the thin guitarist was still observing him back. This time he was met with a weak smile, something cautious and diluted so it could easily be swept away.
I want to say yes Aiji, you don’t know how much I do…I want to feel the way you do with him, despite my outgoing nature, to be his everything, his soul mate and his pet, his best friend and his lover….
His expression saddened unconsciously, eyes growing distant.
But I can’t give in again, not when it hurt so much….Not when someone took advantage of a gift so precious, took my love and submission and threw it in my face, abused me with it…..What if Ka-yu does the same thing? I love him, I hope he knows that, but the way he can be sometimes, especially when he gets angry…..Am I wrong to be scared? Wrong to fear being kicked around again and not realizing it until I’m completely broken?
The smile faded from the guitarist’s face as he watched the other man’s expression.
You don’t know how lucky you are, to have someone who understands you like he does…You can tell, when you are the way we are if the fine line between a different love and abuse has been crossed, but you look so content, I’m envious…..What if he doesn’t understand? What if it happens all over again? God, I couldn’t handle it again, not with Ka-yu….
He shut his eyes as he felt a kiss being placed on his neck, Ka-yu murmuring something about his scent into his ear that he nodded away.
I’m making things worse, aren’t I? If I open my eyes again, is that what you’ll tell me? To give in? But….if I don’t fight it’ll happen again, I know it will. I might be making things worse, but I won’t take any more chances, I promised myself I wouldn’t….I won’t be controlled if he can’t do it right, I won’t be lashed out at just because he’s incapable of handling things differently….I won’t be caused pain unless I ask to be hurt, physically or mentally.
Yasu’s eyelids fluttered open, his expression hardening.
I’m sorry Aiji, but I’m not like you.
He watched intently as the other man eventually averted his gaze, apparently having understood the answer to his question, even if it hurt Yasu to give such a retort.
…. And I wonder if I ever can be again.
Yasu sucked on his olive provocatively, swirling his pink tongue around it as lewdly as he knew how, eyebrows arched in defying innocence.
The figure sitting next to him raised an eyebrow, interested.
He leaned a little closer and sucked a little harder, one shapely leg shifting under the table and rubbing against the other man’s pant leg.
A smile answered him.
The olive was toyed with mercilessly for another moment, until the blonde, eyes lidded seductively, put it out of its misery. Sharp white teeth grabbed the muddy flesh and pulled, freeing it from its impalement but dooming it to a short life in the dark cavern of Yasu’s mouth. Once it had disappeared from sight, the vocalist made sure to lick the fingers that had held the martini olive, toothpick and all, bringing them to his lips.
“God Yasu….,” the voice growled.
Yasu smiled.
“I like the ring of that, but Yasu-sama is just as good,” he purred, still rubbing the other’s leg.
Ka-yu chuckled.
“Well Your Highness, you’re about to get a spanking if you don’t behave yourself for the remainder of this party.”
The blonde’s eyes widened as he placed a hand over his heart.
“Me? Not behave?”
Ka-yu rolled his eyes and reached for another shot glass on the table.
“Don’t get me started Yasu-sama,” he paused as he downed the shot of whiskey, slapping it back down on the table with a smack of satisfaction, “I know how M you can get when the mood suits you.”
The blonde tilted his head downwards and at an angle, eyes becoming even more inviting as he saddled up directly against the other man’s body, hand reaching up to gently stroke his chest.
“Is that so?” he asked, body language switching to the mode he knew his boyfriend liked the best. An effeminate Yasu was a Yasu that always got play, no matter how angry his boyfriend could be with him.
“Un…,” Ka-yu answered with a raised eyebrow and a curious smile, his boyfriend ever so slowly endeavoring to get in his lap.
“M am I…?”
He looked to him with wide brown eyes, sucking the other man in with wave upon wave of false innocence. One hand traveled to trace lazy circles over Ka-yu’s nipple through his shirt while the other placed a finger on Yasu’s full bottom lip, chin resting in his hand as he nibbled on his fingernail. The bassist’s smile grew wider into a show of his crooked teeth and Yasu shifted a leg so he hooked it over the other man’s thigh, smiling back.
Then he pinched his nipple.
“Yasu!” the magenta-haired man snarled, batting away the hand that had injured him as his boyfriend giggled. “Behave yourself or I’ll make a public exhibition out of your punishment….”
The blonde’s eyes grew wide again as he ignored the strike and cuddled closer to his lover, throwing both legs over his thighs so he’d take him into his lap.
“How do you know I’m not an exhibitionist?” he replied flippantly, throwing his arms around his neck and nuzzling his face into the crook there.
“You’d better not be…I’m the only one who gets to see that cute ass of yours.”
“Mmmm…Yu-kun…..”
Ka-yu had managed to get Yasu very drunk during the course of the night, so much so that he had gotten up and started chucking the cherry tomatoes from the vegetable platter alongside other guests disgruntled with Cascade's performance. Needless to say, the bassist was rather pleased with this development, for apart from his extreme extroversion, his lover had become openly affectionate with him as well. Yasu had become rather playful and advertent, Ka-yu basking in the attention like there was no tomorrow. Shuji and Kiyo on the other hand, while not wanting to upset the lovebirds, and not wanting to encourage You to start raising hell within their band, had taken to getting the guitarist extremely liquored up alongside their vocalist. Janne da Arc (save for Yasu, who became completely unpredictable when drunk) was a rather friendly, goofy lot when they became intoxicated, so they figured if they got You smashed enough, he would soon forget that his friends had turned out to be something he was morally against and they could deal with the situation later. They had wanted to take Ka-yu aside and tell him to watch how much Yasu was drinking, but the two seemed to be having such a good time they didn't have the heart to say anything. That, and the drunker they themselves got, the more they forgot about anything that didn't result with them cracking up.
The two lovebirds began kissing in a rather less than modest manner, for no one in Janne da Arc was exactly known for their modesty. Ka-yu reinforced his previous praise by placing a hand on the aforementioned rump and squeezing roughly, Yasu squirming beneath the attention and entertaining the thought of all out straddling his boyfriend. His body began to warm as blood rushed to his cheeks, his tongue dancing around the other’s artfully as the taste of liquor was passed into his mouth.
“Mmmmmm…..Yu-kuuuuUUUSOOO!!! NANI KORE???” Yasu suddenly screeched as something wet went flying into the side of his face, his knee banging into the table and upsetting drinks as he tried desperately to slap away whatever had touched his precious cheek. Ka-yu jumped as well, Yasu’s floundering hands accidentally smashing into the bulge in his pants and a drink from the table spilling graciously all over the front of his shirt.
Two seconds later You came crashing into the picture, a goofy grin on his face as he only managed to stop by the force of Yasu’s forehead pressing against his own. Shuji and Kiyo’s laughter came trailing afterwards, Shuji slapping the table in amusement.
“YOU! What the -- ARGH WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?” Yasu cried in disgust as he pushed You out of his face and clutched his cheek, prying off a piece of slimy fruit peel that was clinging there.
You’s head snapped back in drunken response then came crashing back down into Ka-yu’s crotch.
Yasu flicked the orange peel from his hand distastefully and tried to calm himself but was failing as he saw Kiyo and Shuji cracking up. He wanted to yell at them for messing up his hair but also wanted to laugh at the sight of Kiyo with an orange peel shoved in his mouth, orange “teeth” blaring as he continued to chuckle.
“Shit, my dress shirt!” Ka-yu grumbled as he noted the stain someone’s Mai Tai had left down the front of his expensive shirt, oblivious to the presence of a giggling You in his lap. He'd taken his suit jacket off some time ago under Yasu's incessant fondling.
“What are you doing down there, you skank?! That’s my job,” Yasu hissed, grabbing You’s hair and hauling him out of his boyfriend’s crotch.
“See You, I told you you wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face after that joke!” Shuji yelled from across the table, starting to choke on a laugh and switching his attention to locating his glass of beer.
“Where’s my peel?” You mumbled dazedly, still grinning as Yasu tried to push him hard enough so he’d fall back into a sitting position.
“What the hell are you guys doing?!” Yasu exclaimed as he hurriedly looked for something to wipe Ka-yu’s shirt off with. “My Yu-chan! It’ll be okay baby, Yasu’ll clean you up…,” he cooed with a pouty look on his face, glaring at You as he dabbed at the black shirt with a (eyeball-free) cocktail napkin. Ka-yu sat there and weakly protested Yasu’s motherly behavior, a light blush creeping into his cheeks.
“Ne Yasu-kun, mou ii--”
“Yu-chan’s shirt is ruined! Someone better give me one damn good excuse why I shouldn’t go into total Bitch Mode right now!” he snapped, shooting all of them a harsh look.
Kiyo reached in his mouth and took the orange peel out. Yasu had an unpredictable temper and it often flared up at strange times, even if he was laughing halfway through it, and Kiyo tended to deal with him best out of the group. Shuji’s theory was that since Yasu morphed into something pretty much resembling a woman scorned, it took something cute and cuddly like Kiyo and his adorable face to snap him out of it.
“Um Yasu, we were just playing around…,” Kiyo began, “...making use of the whole fruit, just like they say to in cook books! And well, Shuji made a bet that neither me or You could hold our orange peels in our mouths if he told us this one joke, and we were like ‘yeah right’, well more like we exchanged looks since we couldn’t really talk and then he told it and You started laughing really hard and well,” he looked at You, who was so drunk he was attempting to put the peel back in his mouth just because he thought it belonged there, “You opened his mouth wide enough for the peel to fall in and choke him and then he spit his out and then it uh, hit you. If you guys hadn’t had been so busy making out you would have seen it coming,” he finished with a rush, grabbing You’s arm and pulling him away from the couple.
“Yeah Yasu, if you quit sucking face for two seconds and pay attention to the rest of us you woulda saw that coming,” You reinstated as the peel fell back out of his mouth and into his hand. He inspected the skin with great interest.
Shuji choked a little on his beer and Kiyo looked to You with a big “You shut the hell up” grin on his face. He was the only one that could say stuff like that and get away it, and the look on Yasu’s face was proving that theory right.
“You urusei nan ya!” Yasu spat, lunging over Ka-yu to get to the guitarist although no one knew what he was going to do once he got a hold of him.
“Yasu baby calm down!” Ka-yu started while grabbing a hold of his lover and pulling him to the other side of the booth, Yasu struggling with him as he continued to reach for You. The guitarist stuck his tongue out, amused with the situation, and Kiyo clamped a hand over his mouth to keep him from saying anything else. His face soured as he felt You’s tongue mash against his hand.
“Hanase yo, Yu-kun! You’s always--”
“Yasu, don’t talk to me like that,” Ka-yu whispered curtly into the vocalist’s ear as he tightened his hold on the other’s body. Yasu continued to shoot daggers at You, who was oblivious to it all, but when he looked up at the bassist he calmed down. He knew those eyes meant business.
“Gomen Ka-yu….but….your shirt…,” he whimpered.
“I know sweetheart, don’t worry about it. I’ll go clean up in the restroom.”
He let up on his hold once it was clear Yasu wasn’t going to lunge at anyone anymore.
“Now, you stay out of trouble while I go clean my shirt okay? No hurting You and no more drinking for awhile until I say you can.”
“Mou Ka-yu,” Yasu began to protest, another pout curling his bottom lip downwards.
“No buts Yasu -- I mean it,” the bassist stated with another meaningful look. He began to slide out of the booth, watching his boyfriend the whole time.
“Fine,” he mumbled back, crossing his arms and sulking. He looked back to the remaining three band members as Ka-yu made his way to the restroom.
You was trying to balance a fork on his finger while Shuji threw peanuts into the air and Kiyo caught them in his mouth.
Morons, he thought bitterly, normally willing to jump into their drunken mindlessness but very unhappy that You had managed to ruin his yet another special moment with Ka-yu tonight.
That boy really needs to be taught some manners….I never get to go anywhere nice with Yu-kun lately and here we are all dressed up and I’m in my sexiest pants and then he thinks it’s funny to pull something like that.
He glared at You again.
Argh what is it with him tonight?! He’s been acting like such an ass ….Whatever.
With that he slid out of the booth and stumbled a bit to his feet.
Whoa there Yasu -- maybe we’re a little drunker than we think we are, he mused as he steadied himself on his platforms.
But we’re never too drunk to dance now, are we?
A smile lit his lips as he eyed the dance floor.
If Ka-yu wants to pull that tone of voice on me when I’m only trying to help, he can damn well come find me when he gets back. I will not be reprimanded when I have done nothing wrong!
He sniffed a bit in indignity and tossed his golden locks out of his eyes, strutting all the way to the middle of the warm mass of people swaying to the provocative beats of the DJ. Yasu didn’t mind dancing by himself because he actually knew how to dance, and that always entailed him being joined by a partner soon enough. The swing of his hips and the smirk on his lips was enticing to any that looked at him for more than a moment; the way he moved his body a siren song in itself, mesmerizing and more often than not mouth-watering. And of course, Yasu was completely aware of this. It was how he had managed to land most of his partners, including Ka-yu. The vocalist had become more than just a passing interest to the bassist the first night they had gone to a club together, the way Yasu pressed himself into Ka-yu to the music catching his attention like a steel trap catches a bear as the blonde was wont to say -- stirring pain in a part of his body until he couldn’t help but give in to captivity in hopes of release. It was for this very reason that Ka-yu was smart enough not to let Yasu anywhere near a dance floor without his supervision. He wasn’t about to let anyone else wear the mark of that trap except for himself (and he wasn’t sure anyone else could survive it either seeing as Yasu had a bad reputation of walking all over his lovers). So the blonde was well aware that he was doing something he shouldn’t be.
But as luck would have it, as whenever Yasu was in a pissy mood, he didn’t care.
“Force me to drink and then tell me not to will he,” he muttered as he felt an anonymous hand run up his backside. Yasu smiled contentedly, closing his eyes and listening to the music.
…stupid boyfriend….stupid You…
His eyes fluttered open as he felt a body push past his awkwardly.
Stupid--hello what do we have here? he wondered, his smile growing wider as he saw wheat-colored curls go by him. Quickly he pushed past the people around him and reached out to grab the owner of shiny locks, fingers latching onto the lace of the sleeve with surprising force. The owner stopped walking and turned around, looking at his assailant in question until he realized who he was.
“Yasu-kun?”
Yasu smiled and pulled on the arm, bringing the other man closer to him and back into the middle of the dance floor.
“Shinya-kun~” the vocalist purred. “Fancy seeing you on the dance floor….”
Shinya blushed at the way Yasu was looking over his body, forgetting to keep walking in the other direction.
“Oh but I’m not here to dance Yasu-kun,” he protested as he felt himself being dragged closer to the older man, his body warm and inviting against his own. “I’m here to find Toshiya….”
Yasu was quick to bring their faces together, holding Shinya against his body as he inhaled the other’s scent.
Score. One revenge on Ka-yu via drunken young boy coming up.
“Oh Toshiya? He’s here too Shinya-kun, dancing…,” he murmured into the other’s ear and the drummer giggled at the sensation, Yasu hands firm on his hips as he moved both of theirs together. “See, you should be dancing, just like him…”
“But Yasu,” he said softly, the blush deepening on his cheeks as he felt a hand tactfully squeeze his rear, “I don’t see Toshiya….”
“That’s because,” he answered while bringing a hand up to caress the other’s cheek, “you’re not looking hard enough…..”
And as naughty as it was, Yasu caught the other’s chin in his hand and looked into his unfocused gray eyes, slowly bringing his gaze downwards to Shinya’s full, crimson lips.
“Yasu-kun,” he murmured as a wave of arousal splashed over his body, the smaller man’s body suddenly feeling very, very warm and very, very inviting. The amount of liquor he'd been forced to consume over the course of the night wasn't aiding his judgment any better.
“Shhh,” he soothed as he brought their lips closer, their bodies still swaying to the music and Yasu’s lead. “Look a little closer ne….”
Shinya shut his eyes and let himself drift closer, lips lightly touching the vocalist’s as pleasure skittered down his back.
Yasu smiled, about to deepen the kiss further.
And then a hand grabbed a fistful of his hair and jerked him back, a body wedging itself rudely between he and his dance partner in the roughest manner possible.
“Shinya!” Die yelled, grabbing his lover by the wrist. “What the fuck are you doing?!”
Yasu’s previously happy face promptly turned to a scowl as he regained his balance and smoothed his hair back down.
Shinya looked to the redhead dazedly, trying to keep his balance atop his heels as Die shook his wrist for emphasis.
Slowly people began watching the scene out of the corners of their eyes.
“Die-kun, I was only dancing,” he answered back, hurt seeping into his voice.
“Dancing? You call kissing this blonde skank dancing?!” he hissed in disbelief. “You were supposed to be finding Toshiya!!”
“Die-kun, you’re hurting my wrist,” Shinya whimpered as the redhead squeezed the frail bones tighter in shock and resentment.
“Who you calling skank, you ungraceful clout?” Yasu spat back, having recovered from the initial shock. He also had a penchant for stirring up trouble when he was intoxicated as well.
“The lady and I were only dancing until you barged in here.”
Die turned around, letting go of his lover in the process. Of all the people he was not in the mood to see, Yasu ranked at number one.
“Shinya isn’t a woman, he’s my boyfriend and you have no right to touch him like you were!” he shot back, blurting the first thing that came to his mind in anger.
A smirk spread on Yasu’s lip as he placed a hand on his hip. He didn’t know Shinya was dating his guitarist and he’d never met Die before, but from what he had seen in magazines and from the past few minutes he was highly unimpressed. The guy had no class in his opinion.
“Oh really?” he began smugly, “Then how come you dress him like one? Afraid of a little manly competition, are we Die?”
Now, had Die been thinking straight, he could’ve retorted by saying Shinya dressed himself, but the liquor he had consumed blurred out that train of thought. His frustration and intoxication only led to a deep blush forming on his cheeks to match the crimson of his hair.
“Shut up Yasu!” he snarled, taking a menacing step toward the blonde. “You’d better watch your mouth and quit trying to steal other people’s men or your flaming ass is about to get doused by a meeting with my fist…”
By now people had gradually stopped dancing and begun to watch the confrontation.
“Excuse me, I think anyone here can see Shinya was enjoying dancing with me thank you very much,” Yasu spat back, undaunted by Die’s size as he took a step forward to match the guitarist’s. “Maybe you just need to keep a shorter leash on your ‘boyfriend’,” he emphasized the word to provoke the other man further. “I can’t help it if he finds a man sure of his identity more appealing than the likes of you.”
Die’s hand curled into a fist as he glanced back at Shinya, who’s face was unreadable as he split attention between his boyfriend and Yasu.
The red-haired guitarist wasn’t about to have any of it, his other fist curling in determination as he looked back at Janne Da Arc’s vocalist. He was going to show Shinya he was a man and if he had to do it through violence then so be it.
“Yasu, I’m going to give you one last chance to apologize or else things are going to get ugly,” he said evenly, a hand gently pushing Shinya behind him.
“Oh please, you couldn’t --”
“Is there a problem here?” a voice interrupted, and Yasu looked to his side. Ka-yu had managed to find him and the man looked less than pleased as he placed an arm around Yasu’s waist protectively.
The blonde immediately changed his demeanor, cuddling against the bigger man as he donned a look of helplessness.
“Ka-yu-kun, all I was doing was talking to my friend Shinya here and then his jealous jerk of a boyfriend,” he nodded his head in Die’s direction, “decided it would be manly of him to shove me out the way and drag Shinya off.”
The bassist looked down at his boyfriend and Yasu went teary-eyed to show his obvious distress.
Die’s jaw dropped.
“You lying little---”
Ka-yu turned and looked at Die.
“I think you owe my boyfriend an apology,” he stated, cutting the other man off.
The guitarist gawked at him like he was insane.
“Are you kidding me?! That slut was trying to make out with Shinya!!!”
The bassist’s brow furrowed as he looked back to Yasu, whose lip had begun to tremble.
“I only wanted to talk to talk to him Yu-kun, honest!! I’m not a slut!!!” he sniffled and promptly began sobbing into Ka-yu’s sleeve.
“Shhh baby, don’t cry,” he said while stroking Yasu’s golden locks. His brought the slightly smaller man closer in order to comfort him and looked back at Die, eyes smoldering.
“Yasu is not a slut; how dare you think you can talk about him like that,” he said heatedly, cradling the other’s head to him protectively.
Die was still staring at Yasu with his mouth hanging open.
He looked to Ka-yu, who looked ready to charge him any second, then back to Yasu, then around at the crowd that had gathered, then to Shinya who was looking slightly sympathetic at Yasu's sobbing, then back to Yasu, who was now peeking through his hair and grinning evilly at him while “crying”.
He lost it.
“Of all the THAT BITCH WAS MOLESTING MY SHINYA!!!” he yelled and a hush fell over the crowd as everyone in the dance hall turned their heads.
“Die-kun,” Shinya said quietly as he looked around, “you’re making a scene…please….”
The guitarist turned his head.
“I have HAD it Shinya! I will not have another man in this place look at you, touch you, or speak to you in the fashion they’ve been doing all night long! You are with me!! Me,” he pulled him to him for emphasis, “and everyone here will know it! If anyone else thinks they have a chance with you well then they can fucking well answer to me from now on,” he snarled, “and that includes that blonde piece of trash over there!”
He let go of Shinya who’s cheeks had turned rose pink again, his eyes full of admiration.
“Die-kun….”
Die placed a forceful kiss on Shinya’s mouth and turned his attention to the situation at hand, once again making Shinya move behind him.
Ka-yu snorted.
“Great speech there Loverboy, but I highly doubt Yasu-kun here was hitting on Stickboy over there. He doesn’t like the pansy types.”
Yasu sniffled and nodded his head against his boyfriend’s shirt.
“Shinya isn’t a pansy, asshole,” Die retorted, now 100% sure of a fight.
“Oh like you would know buddy; look at yourself,” Ka-yu pried Yasu off him gently and took a step forward. “You look like you couldn’t punch your way out of a wet paper bag you weak fuck.”
“That’s not true!” Shinya suddenly piped up from behind Die, the other glancing at him in surprise. “Die-kun has amazing stamina in bed!”
Die wasn’t quite sure to look shocked or pleased about that comment, a small blush creeping onto his cheeks.
“What, it isn’t that hard to stay up on all fours,” Yasu jibed just loud enough for the guitarist to hear.
Ka-yu grinned.
“Yeah but---”
“Shinya why don’t you stay out of this?” Die hissed with a smile on his face, resisting the urge to clamp a hand over the drunken drummer’s mouth. He turned back to Ka-yu swiftly and began speaking before anything more could be said on the subject.
“So are you gonna show me how just how weak I am or what Ka-yu? I’m sick of this shit chit-chat.”
“Good,” the bassist replied, rolling up his sleeves, “because so I am.”
The crowd became even more quiet, the music from above the only thing audible as people pushed and shoved to see what was going on on the dance floor. It wasn’t everyday most of the guests got to see any kind of fight, such behavior avoided at all costs in their daily lives. But as it had been and would be proven with other scenarios that night, the dance hall was fast becoming an alternate universe to what every one was used to. Die undid his own cufflinks and passed them to Shinya as he watched Ka-yu finish the last of his preparations. He couldn’t believe he was about to get in a fight at a birthday party of all places, but if it would show Shinya how much he cared for him then by all means he was ready.
The two stood ready to fight, waiting for the other to make the first move.
“You’re gonna be sorry,” Die barked right before he took a swing at Ka-yu’s face and narrowly avoided punching Kaoru.
“Kaoru?!”
His aim went astray as the sight of the older man looking extremely agitated filled his vision.
“Die!!! Nani yatte n no?!”
He grabbed the redhead roughly by the sleeve and began dragging him away from Ka-yu.
"You two find Toshiya now or I’ll be the one to beat your sorry ass!!!” he nearly growled, his nerves taut as bowstrings about to snap. A second later Shinya was grabbed by the arm and both he and his lover were being pushed past the crowd.
"Kaoru I--" Die sputtered, knowing he was going to have hell to pay now the older man had found him.
"I don't want to hear it right now dammit! GO!"
All the guests who had gathered were shocked by Kaoru's display of anger, most never having seen the man anything but calm and collected. After he watched his band mates hurry off in a direction away from the Janne members he walked back to a bewildered and still angry Ka-yu. Everyone stepped aside to let him back into the middle of the circle.
"Please forgive the ignorance of my guitarist Ka-yu-san. I don't know what was going on but there was absolutely no reason for him to behave like that and I am sure it is all our fault. My sincerest apologies and if there is anything at all I can do to compensate for this inexcusable offense please tell me and I will do so."
Kaoru bowed sharply before the bassist, his head hung low in embarrassment and apology.
"Please tell me how I can compensate for your inconvenience. Forgive my band for its shameful lack of manners."
Yasu, despite his intense urge to snap something mean at the prone guitarist, wisely kept his mouth shut and pressed himself against Ka-yu again.
"Hnnn....all I want is an apology to Yasu here. He was the one Die insulted first."
Kaoru turned to Yasu and bowed deeply again.
"I apologize for Die's atrocious behavior Yasu-san. Whatever he said was most surely false and unfounded in nature. Please forgive his severe error in judgment. If there's anything I can do for you, don't hesitate to inform me. Please don't think lowly of my band."
Yasu nonchalantly placed a few strands of his hair behind his ear.
"...Apology accepted."
Kaoru bowed again.
"If you will forgive me, I have other business to attend to. I hope you enjoy the rest of the party without incident, and if there is anything you need, please come to me and I will make sure you have it."
Ka-yu and Yasu nodded.
"Excuse me," Kaoru said quietly as he strode away from the two, pushing past the remaining guests. Now that they saw nothing else exciting was going to occur, the crowd dispersed back to their designated booths or began dancing again. As fast as it started it was over, but no one was that surprised.
"Asshole," Yasu muttered as Ka-yu escorted him off the dance floor.
People moved aside for them fairly deftly, no one wanting to rub the tattooed man the wrong way.
"Baby, I need to talk to you...," his boyfriend said without looking at him, pulling his cigarette pack from his pocket.
"Eh? Sure Yu-kun, anything my hero wants~" he replied with a big grin.
Ka-yu smiled an emotionless smile but Yasu was oblivious, happily glomping onto him as he concentrated on walking straight. He was so engrossed in humming along to the next song that he failed to realize he was being led towards the doors to the dance hall, and not back to the booth.
The bassist nodded absently as he lit his cigarette.
~*~
Kiyo came trotting back to the booth as fast as he could, a worried expression plastered on his face.
"Incoming!" You giggled, thinking Kiyo was going to jump on them or something, and too drunk to stop giggling even when he didn't.
"Doushita? You look upset," Shuji said after pushing You to get him to shut up, his own smile quickly fading.
"Yasu," Kiyo panted.
Shuji looked at him.
"You're shitting me," he moaned yet he already knew it was true.
"No man, it's already started. Damn I knew we shoulda said something to Ka-yu!"
"Here, well sit down and tell me about it. We can't do much now unless they come here again."
The keyboardist nodded, sliding into the booth and situating himself.
You struggled to sit back up straight.
"What, is someone else gay?" he said sloppily but Shuji distracted him with another piece of fruit You was more than happy to consume.
"When I came out of the restroom, Ka-yu was on the verge of fighting with Die," Kiyo reported dutifully, "and you can bet who probably started the whole thing."
"Right. Ka-yu's not normally like that, even if he has been drinking."
"'S exactly what I said to myself," the brunette agreed. "And I'm pretty sure Ka-yu knows it too, and now he's dragged Yasu off somewhere...And you know how impossible it gets to tell Yasu anything when he's had too much to drink, let alone something serious."
Shuji sighed and fished a cherry out of his drink to give to You.
"So in other words, trouble's brewing, and we can't do jack shit about it."
"Mmm hmm."
They both stared at the table, You trying to tie a knot in the cherry stem with his tongue and failing miserably beside them.
".....You don't really think Yasu'll go off at Ka-yu, do you? I mean, he's never gone off at one of us before..."
Kiyo pondered this.
"Yeah, but look at the way he went off at You earlier when he normally would have laughed it off."
"Good point."
There was commotion on the stage and the crowd got quieter, but Shuji and Kiyo were too busy trying to figure out a plan of action, or whether they should take one at all.
"But really, it's Ka-yu's fault for making Yasu promise to drink, isn't it?"
Shuji grabbed another napkin and began to tear it into little pieces.
"Yeah, technically it is, but you know why he did it knowing how Yasu is and how pathetically sappy Ka-yu can be."
"Pathetically sap-- oh yeah, I forgot how obsessed he is with bunny rabbits. You really think the same thing's happened with Yasu?"
Kiyo nodded.
"For him to walk around with his arm around the guy's waist all night and then attempt to get in a fight with one of the hosts, yeah I think he is. C'mon, you know Ka-yu -- he won't even touch the girls he's dating in public because he worries about 'what his dad would think'."
"I guess you're right. Damn. I thought our band was exempt from the usual VK drama?"
"You thought wrong my friend," the keyboardist sighed.
Kiyo then looked dejectedly at the empty pretzel bowl.
"Argh, I knew I should have eaten dinner before we came."
The drummer was about to comment on that before You suddenly came to life again, all but having been forgotten about as he played with the stem.
"Oh my god, she's beautiful!" he exclaimed, eyes fixed directly on the center of the stage that Shuji and Kiyo had completely ceased to pay attention to in their concern.
They followed his gaze as a surge of applause louder than anything they'd heard that night deafened their ears.
"What the -- is that who I think it is?!" Shuji sputtered in surprise.
Kiyo was equally as stunned.
"......Whatever you do," he murmured, eyes fixed on the stage as You stood up to applaud,
"...don't tell You."
~*~
The air outside was cold, snapping at their faces in full force as Ka-yu pushed the double doors open. He immediately regretted not having grabbed his jacket before stepping outside, but it couldn't be helped. Yasu sucked in loudly at the surprising chill in the air and huddled against his lover's form even more desperately. Ka-yu ditched his cigarette since it was fighting a losing battle against the wind.
"Kyaaa Yu-kun it's so cold!"
Yasu's complaint was cut short by another violent gust, and Ka-yu guided them under an overhang beside a car.
"Sorry baby, but I wanted some fresh air naa," he apologized just as the wind calmed down for a bit.
The blonde waved away the inconvenience with a snuggle.
"Anything for my Yu-kun~~," he sighed happily. "That was so brave of you to step up to Die the way you did…You’re so manly….”
But his lover was quiet, despite the praise, silently watching a few flakes of snow. The moon was full despite the uncomfortable weather and there was an almost romantic air about when the snow flurries ceased.
“Eh, Yu-kun, what’s up?” Yasu inquired, looking up at the solemn face. He reached a hand up and gently caressed the magenta-haired man's cheek, finger trailing over the stud right below his lip. An urge for sexual attention had welled up within him and he hoped the other man would take notice.
"It's such a beautiful night despite the cold..."
He slipped a few frozen fingers in-between the buttons of Ka-yu's shirt.
"I think we --"
“Yasu," the bassist began abruptly, removing the pale wandering fingers, "what would have happened to you if I hadn’t have shown up to save you?”
The blonde looked at him blankly, dumbfounded at the removing of his fingers. It wasn't like Ka-yu to interrupt his advances.
“Anoo…”
“Would you have fought him yourself?” the pierced man persisted.
“I..maybe…," Yasu fumbled, "I mean, he isn’t that much bigger than either of us…”
“So were you just waiting for me to show up?” he inquired, dark eyes focused on the bright white orb in the sky.
“Well, no, but…”
Yasu loosened his hold on Ka-yu, his warm feelings quickly cooling to match the temperature around them.
“Yasu, there would have been a fifty fifty chance Die would have won that fight….One or both of us could have gotten seriously injured, especially since we’ve been drinking….”
“Yu-kun zutto kachisou yo~ What are you talking about?” he said amiably enough, making one last effort to salvage his good mood.
But Ka-yu persisted, stepping away from his lover and turning to look him in the eye.
“….You were the one who started that fight, weren’t you?”
Yasu smiled tolerably, his mood completely ruined.
“Ka-yu…I don’t--”
“Don’t lie to me Yasu. You were flirting with Shinya, weren’t you?”
“I wouldn’t….I mean…," he averted his eyes, an unconscious blush of anger and shame cresting his high cheekbones.
“Yasu….I know what you’re like.”
The blonde could feel the indignation rising within him, hot and scalding to the touch. His eyes darted back to Ka-yu's and he stared defiantly.
“Would you quit looking at me like that?!" he shot back, loosely crossing his arms and taking a defensive stance. "Okay, so maybe I did flirt with him a little. So what. It was no reason for Die to get up in my face like that.”
He tossed his head aside impatiently, eyes focusing on the sheen of the cars in the parking lot.
Ka-yu sighed, his voice dropping slightly.
“You know, I really wish you wouldn’t do things like that….”
Yasu's hold on himself tightened, his fingers digging into the pleather coverings on his arm.
“Ka-yu, you knew how I was when you started dating me, so don’t pull that on me. It isn’t fair…”
There was silence as Ka-yu tried to find the right words. Yasu began preening a few random snowflakes from his hair.
“Yasu listen," he started in a quiet tone, "I’m not always going to be there to save you when you do things like that, I don’t think you realize that….and besides…..things have changed.”
The vocalist looked back at his boyfriend's face, his tone wary.
“What do you mean things have changed?”
Now it was Ka-yu's turn to look away.
“I mean….they just have. I don’t want you flirting with other men, or women, like that anymore.”
“You don’t own me Ka-yu, I’ll do as I please.”
“Yasu, you’re my lover…I may not own you but I do have a say what happens between us.”
Yasu's stance became even more apprehensive, his hand moving to his hip and resting there angrily.
“Ka-yu,” he began with thinly veiled irritation, “I cook for you and then I clean the dishes, I buy clothes for you and then I do the laundry, and for Christ’s sake I even make love to you and then make the bed. I do enough for you already and what I do outside that you have no right to comment on.”
“I have every right to comment on what you do outside that Yasu and you know it…,” the bassist retorted, his own patience wearing thin and his body language starting to show it.
Yasu looked him straight in the eye.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore.”
“Yasu…”
“I said no more, Ka-yu!” he growled, turning his back to the other man.
Ka-yu took a step forward, ready to turn his boyfriend around if need be.
“Yasu, quit acting like this….”
His voice reeked of warning.
“No!” the blonde shouted agitatedly over his shoulder.
“Yasu!”
“Stop it!" he yelled, his voice cracking with suppressed emotion. "Stop using that tone of voice with me, I hate it!”
“Yasu-kun…” his lover said more calmly, laying a hand on his shoulder.
“Leave me alone!” the blonde hissed, shrugging the hand off violently.
“Yasu! Stop acting like a spoiled child just because you’re afraid to face a real relationship!!!” he yelled in anger, blurting his true feelings out as if they tasted of bile.
For once, it was the silence and not the cold that caused a shiver to crawl down Ka-yu's spine. It crossed his mind that he may not have said the best thing, Yasu's body becoming so rigid it resembled the caress of rigor mortis.
“A real relationship?” he repeated quietly.
“A real relationship?!”
He whipped around, eyes narrowed in rage.
“A REAL relationship is not you raising your goddamn voice at me every time things don’t go your way, Ka-yu!”
He took a heated step towards the other man, but Ka-yu was too wound up to back down and not be heard. Yasu had no right to hiss insults at him after what he'd put up with.
“I yell because you fucking ignore me if I don’t!” he spat back.
“Maybe if you’d have fucking tried another approach from the beginning I wouldn’t ignore you!”
The silence was thoroughly trampled by their fighting, the cold dissipating with the heat in their voices.
“What the hell am I supposed to do? You think you’re so goddamn high and mighty when it comes to me! I’m sick of it, Yasu! I’m fucking SICK of it!!”
He grabbed Yasu by the arm for emphasis, as if he could physically force Yasu to behave the way he wanted him too.
Brown eyes which he had complimented so many times before widened in a wild blur of shock, hatred, fear and hurt. But Yasu persisted to the point of masochism, determined not to keep quiet any longer.
“You think you know anything about wanting a real relationship?! A REAL relationship doesn’t consist of your goddamn partner kissing your feet every time you step in the room, Ka-yu!!" he yelled in the rawest voice Ka-yu had heard come from inside the man. "A REAL relationship means you fucking realize I’m every ounce a man as you are and I won’t be and I WON’T be fucking intimidated by your testosterone-driven displays of domination!!”
It was then, blinded by anger and pain, that Ka-yu made one of the worst decisions in his life.
He raised his arm as if to strike his lover, emotion brimming over until he could contain it no longer. It seemed like the right thing to do, his instinct screamed, considering the humiliation Yasu had put him through with his behavior and total disregard for his feelings. It felt as if it were logical that if Yasu made him ache so badly inside, he had a right to make Yasu feel some of that pain, even if it be physically. For that moment, and that moment alone, hitting his boyfriend seemed like the answer to all of his problems.
But for some reason, he couldn't bring his hand down, the act of violence frozen in midair and looming above them both as something ugly and ominous.
“Don’t you dare think you can hit me, Ka-yu," Yasu said quietly, Ka-yu suddenly realizing the man's eyes were brimming with tears. And yet Yasu refused to pull himself out of the other man's grasp.
"I will NOT be some fucking servant you can step on when you please! If you think you can strike me you’d better damn well be ready for me to strike back!”
The words echoed harshly in the bassist's head, the only thing he could see being the pained look in Yasu's eyes, a tear seeping from the corner of one perfect orb.
Had he really been ready to hit Yasu?
His hand went completely slack, freeing the other man from his grip.
He had been ready to strike the face of the man he loved....
“I….oh god….Yasu, I wouldn’t," he murmured dazedly, "I don’t want to…I can’t believe….”
Much to his surprise though, the blonde didn't pull away from him as if he had been burned, or lash out and hit him in revenge. Instead, as he retreated back behind curtains of gold, Yasu's body exhibited a rather resigned, beaten appearance that was the complete opposite of what he was used to.
“I’m not like the women you’ve had before, Ka-yu" he murmured barely above a whisper, almost as if he were talking to himself, "I’ve been taught to have my way just as much as you’ve been taught to have yours. And until you realize that, I….”
"I..."
Ka-yu felt like each tear that fell behind that curtain bore a hole in his heart. He suddenly became horribly afraid of taking a step near his lover, despite how much he longed to do so.
“Yasu…," he whispered, his voice coarse, "please, it hurts so much when you ignore me….I, I never want to resort to hitting you to get you to listen, but….but I’m so desperate..it’s pathetic…”
He felt as if he should be on his knees with his head bowed, neck exposed in humility.
Yasu was still silent.
“Why, Yasu? Why won’t you acknowledge me like I want you to?" he asked softly, voice laced with pain, "I can’t believe, I can’t believe it’s only that…For a year now, and…"
He paused, hesitant and afraid of being exposed and emotionally vulnerable.
"....I thought I meant more than that to you.”
Yasu lifted his head ever so slightly, but still talked to a point beside Ka-yu's body.
“It’s that attitude, Ka-yu, that’s why I do it…..I only wanted to make you jealous because used that tone of voice with me….”
“..I don’t understand….” he confessed.
“You don’t need to understand!" Yasu yelled suddenly, his eyes fiery and defiant for a split second. "Just don’t…," he calmed down, "don’t talk to me like that….”
“There!" Ka-yu said in a pleading, frustrated voice, "You’re doing it again, making it impossible for me to get anywhere with you. And when I yell, it’s the only way you listen… we both know that….”
Yasu began holding himself again, walking over to the wall and hunching against it. He was quiet for some time, and even when he began to speak it was so softly Ka-yu had to strain to hear it.
“When I was younger, I didn’t know a lot….I met this guy, and he was handsome..and older…and, I was having so many problems getting girls to like me so…"
His voice faded into nothingness as he looked out at the glittering buildings of Tokyo and the night sky they rivaled.
"Well, he became my first boyfriend….And because I didn’t know any better, I let him do a lot of bad things to me….He was so controlling, so possessive…and I would brush it off until…until he used this certain tone voice on me…"
Yasu's tone took a darker turn and his eyes narrowed in remembrance.
"He would get irrationally angry about anyone, even my good friends….and, he got violent….but before that, there was always this voice….I learned to hate it…..And sometimes, you sound just like him and….it scares me…,” he finished almost inaudibly.
Ka-yu stared at him dully, a million thoughts running through his mind, mostly concerning hatred from himself. His Yasu? His Yasu? Someone had laid a hand on him? He had kept it from all of them this whole time, and then...he had....god.....
“Yasu, I can’t bring myself to do that to someone I care about…," he said, words falling from his mouth on their own accord, "I know, right then, it could have happened, and a part of me wanted to, but another part..."
He took a hesitant step closer.
"Oh god Yasu…I would do anything for you, anything…” he implored, wanting no more than for the blonde to acknowledge him again.
Another stretch of silence.
“……I know," he finally whispered.
Yasu sighed.
"But, I learned something, Ka-yu….You don’t feel sorry for someone until the same thing happens to you. I used to think if it came down to it, it was okay to slap a girl and leave it at that if it made her understand…I’m too old for all of that now. To think that’s okay, to think what he did was okay, and I can’t stand to see someone I care about…I can’t stand to see you resemble that in any form…."
His gaze drifted up to meet Ka-yu's eyes.
"…I just….I get scared when I think someone can control me, or affect my actions, and I want to cut them off…I keep wanting to cut you off and get you out of my head, but I can’t…You’re always there and I react so badly….”
“Why didn’t you tell me that sooner though, about him? Why….why...,” he repeated, unable to form the rest of his question.
“I don’t know, I don’t like to think about it…"
He averted his eyes again.
"It makes me angry…and ashamed…”
Ka-yu slowly moved closer to his boyfriend, unable to keep away from him any longer.
“Yasu, I wouldn’t talk to you like that but…It’s the only way to get you under control…," he confessed. "You never want to listen…I don’t own you but…sometimes it feels like I’m not even here….”
Tentatively he touched Yasu's arm.
“I know I make things difficult for you, because in the beginning I thought you would leave when you sensed resistance...I really….I really thought you just expected me to be like a girl, and I thought that meant to you that you could treat me how you pleased…"
The smaller man moved to be held, Ka-yu eagerly engulfing him with his embrace.
"...I think I jumped to conclusions, but the thought of having someone control me again, god, it drives me so crazy, makes me so scared….”
His voice caught in his throat and he just let himself be held. After a few minutes, Ka-yu worked up his courage. He pushed Yasu away slightly so he could look him in the face.
“Listen Yasu, I know we haven’t been dating for the longest time, and I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but, I realized the minute Die looked like he was going to hurt you that I had to tell you tonight …”
Yasu looked at him with wet eyes.
“…I love you….”
He continued before the blonde could react.
“I’ve known for some time I think, inside," he began hurriedly, "but I’ve been waiting…I thought maybe we’d stop having those petty fights, and things would just click. And fuck, if I’d like to admit it, but I think somewhere in the back of my head, clicking meant becoming like my mom and dad." A weak smile formed on his lips. "I don’t know, I’ve never loved someone before, I have nothing to fall back on…If, if you tell me, I’ll do it Yasu….If you tell me how you want me to handle my anger I will, if you’d just try and let me in…We’re physical, but I know, I know you won’t let it touch where it would feel best….”
"Please just let me in," he begged.
The wind began to blow again as the two searched each others eyes. For the first time since they'd gotten together, Ka-yu watched as Yasu's eyes softened.
“Yu-kun….No one….no one’s ever said that to me before….”
“Well, I mean it…," he asserted, "I don’t think it gives me ownership rights or puts you on a leash, but I really….”
A pair of lips covered his own, sweet in their taste and even more in the passion they conveyed.
“I want me to be the only one, Yasu," he murmured into the kiss, "I want you to feel the same way I do... more than anything.”
There was a small moan of consent as the blonde wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's neck, trying to convey with action what he hadn't been able to express in words in their time together. It was a kiss of relief, a kiss without walls or defense and they both felt completely at ease in enjoying the moment.
It would of lasted much longer had not the disturbing noise of a body being thrown into a car near them disrupted their show of love.
Both Ka-yu and Yasu turned their heads at the noise in surprise.
"What's going on?" Yasu whispered.
Ka-yu held him a little tighter and scanned to see where the noise had come from.
Hidden in the shadows beneath the overhang, Yasu and Ka-yu apparently hadn't been noticed by whoever it was in the parking lot. Person A seemed very angry with Person B, who was now laying prone on the hood of a car as Person A barked something at them.
"Can you make out who they are?" the blonde whispered, unable to discern the figures due to distance and the snow starting up again.
"No, they're not under a light...."
Whatever was going on didn't seem too happy though, Person B suddenly becoming hysterical out of nowhere and thrashing about.
"Do you think they're going to hurt each other? Maybe we should step in," Yasu said distantly, straining to hear their words.
"I think maybe we should go inside before we freeze to death..."
Ka-yu didn't want to get involved in another fight that night.
"If it's something serious I'm sure their friends will find them, baby. Our friends must be worried about us come to think about it," he added with a stroking of Yasu's hair.
"Un...," Yasu agreed, dismissing the ordeal as he looked back to his lover's face. "I guess you're right."
And so they returned inside, trying to ignore the drama of another band and concentrate on their own.
Yasu grit his teeth as yet another object went flying into his head that night.
And he was still drunk enough to bitch about it, although as he picked the object off of the floor, his face twisted into a look of confusion before he burst out laughing.
"Someone tell me what the hell this is," he said to the three men laughing themselves breathless in their booth. Ka-yu inspected the object Yasu had unfortunately stepped in the way of and began to giggle himself.
"It's Toshiya's titty!" Kiyo blurted before he collapsed into a giggling mass with Shuji and You, the three of them now thoroughly intoxicated. In their worry for Ka-yu and Yasu's relationship they had decided to drink more, and You, being smashed to begin with, followed suit. He was on the verge of passing out if he wasn't kept continually entertained.
Yasu stared at the breast in his hand.
"I got hit in the face with some girl's boob?" he exclaimed, but even he couldn't keep from laughing.
"Uh, I think he said 'Toshiya's," Ka-yu stated as he shoved a collapsing You out of his part of the booth so he and Yasu could sit down.
"Does anyone wanna explain why you guys are playing Hot Potato with a goddamn fake breast??" the blonde inquired upon flopping down in the booth. He tossed it back at Shuji.
"Uh, because it's fun?" they answered, giggling harder as Shuji tossed the breast at an unsuspecting Ka-yu.
"No, I meant --"
Yasu stopped in midsentence, realizing it was hopeless. They had a good 2 hours or so of party time left but it appeared Janne da Arc had gotten a little too drunk a little too fast already. Well, he guessed it was for the better, wanting to ditch the party to spend time with Ka-yu to begin with.
"Never mind."
He caught the jelly-like object when it got tossed at him again and threw it at a sleeping You just for kicks, the breast slapping against his face and flopping to the table. The guitarist barely stirred.
"Well guys, I think Ka-yu and I are gonna jet..."
Ka-yu looked at his boyfriend in surprise. It was a pleasant surprise though, and he didn't object.
"Eh? So soon?" Kiyo said with a lopsided grin. He retrieved the breast from You's forming pool of spittle and gave it a good squeeze.
"You guys gonna fuck?" You mumbled slurredly and Kiyo and Shuji looked at him, startled. They thought he'd forgotten by now.
Yasu looked at Ka-yu, who glanced at You with a raised eyebrow, trying to decipher what he meant by that. He gave his lover a sultry wink.
"Maybe. You wanna join?"
But You had already passed out again.
"Eeeto yeah, maybe that is a good idea," Shuji agreed, You beginning to snore. "I think a certain guitarist needs to be taken home."
The rest of Janne nodded their heads. Yasu and Ka-yu stood back up, wrapping their arms around each others waists.
"Yeah, I think we've done enough talking for the night," Ka-yu said with a slightly bashful grin. "You guys sure you're gonna be okay getting home with You?"
Kiyo was poking the seemingly dead man with his finger, You groaning in response.
"Yeah, I think we'll be okay."
"Good deal. See you guys later then?"
They nodded with slightly lopsided grins.
"You guys don't uh, injure anything," was all Kiyo could think to say as he waved goodbye.
"Yeah, don't knock Yasu up!" Shuji added, waving as well.
The two looked at each other and then laughed, waving goodbye as they set out to retrieve their coats and hail a cab.
"Well, I'm glad Yasu didn't rip Ka-yu's heart out and chuck it into the street," Kiyo commented as he watched the vocalist lean his head on the other man's shoulder. They strode through the doors with a very statuesque air about them.
"Yeah, no shit."
Shuji finished off the last of his beer.
"You think You's going to remember any of this in the morning?"
Kiyo looked at the guitarist.
"Some of it, yeah, but I'm sure we can reason him to death until he decides Yasu and Ka-yu won't rape him or turn his future kids gay or whatever the hell he's thinking of in that little brain of his."
"I guess you're right."
They both looked at their sleeping friend.
"Shall we?"
"Yep."
They both grabbed an arm and began pushing/pulling him out of the booth, which proved to be a fairly difficult task until You regained enough consciousness to stumble to his own feet with their aid. Unfortunately, You couldn't decide who he wanted to lean on, Kiyo or Shuji, so the two had to keep an eye out for his swaying form.
"Oh wait!" Kiyo said, dropping his half of You's body and running back to the booth.
Shuji promptly cursed and buckled under You's dead weight, teetering on the edge of falling over and dragging the guitarist with him. Luckily, Kiyo took up his old position a minute later.
"What the hell did you do that for?!" Shuji groaned, trying to readjust the guitarist’s arm around his shoulder.
He held up right hand, the fake breast clutched firmly in his grip.
"Souvenir," Kiyo said with a wide grin.
