A/N: I managed to get this chapter up much sooner then expected...which I guess is good. It's not as long as the last chapter, but I think it's a decent length.
Big, huge thanks to:
kaoruslilvamp - I appreciate the review. I'm sorry, but I didn't make Kaoru do anything extremely drastic to get Kim to talk...he kinda strikes me as the guy who would just be all matter of fact and like 'You're going to end up telling me, so spit it out' :P. It makes me happy that you think I'm doing a good job with this fic :)
Anyone who's taking the time to read this!
Chapter 5:
We had finally reached the hotel we’d be staying at.
Die trudged into the lobby looking as if he was just waiting for his deathbed.
Apparently I got over hangovers much faster then he did.
We loaded our baggage onto a cart, and followed Toshiya who was rolling towards the elevator.
The elevator was kind of crowded with six people and a baggage cart in it.
We reached the third floor, grabbed our own bags and went to our rooms.
I was sharing one with Kaoru. Kyo and Shinya were sharing another room. Die and Toshiya were sharing the other one.
I waited for Kaoru to open the door with the key, and then walked in and quickly dropped my bags on one of the beds.
I was hoping to make a quick get away before Kaoru questioned me.
Of course, I was never that lucky.
“What made you so upset?”
“Nothing,” I replied, wincing at how my voice raised a couple octaves.
“You suck at lying,” he told me, giving me one of those old ‘I’m burning holes in you’ looks.
Did I ever mention how much that look annoyed/creeped me out?
“Honestly, it’s nothing,” I said, still pathetically trying to convince him that I was telling the truth.
“Honestly, I know something’s wrong,” he said.
Seriously those looks really did get creepy after a while.
It was silent for a while before Kaoru finally spoke up; “Look, Kim, we both know that I’m going to get it out of you one way or another.”
He made it sound like such an affirmative statement. Which it kinda was…
“Fine,” I sighed, dropping onto one of the beds.
Kaoru sat down next to me as I began to tell my pathetic story.
“I started going out with this one guy, Alex, in the middle of my sophomore year in college. We were a great couple he was nice, caring, good-looking; the works. We were steady for like four years, but I found out that he had been sleeping with another women. She hadn’t been the first either,” I said, quietly.
“He’s the reason you came back to Japan.” He said as a statement. Not a question.
“No. Not completely. I mean, I guess he was part of it, but things weren’t that great in Chicago. I was having trouble holding down a steady job, which gave me trouble with paying rent and stuff. I guess I could have gone back to my dad and your mom, but I didn’t want to deal with my dad’s ‘I told you so’s’. He wouldn’t actually say it, but you’d still be able to feel that vibe. He didn’t want me to leave Japan in the first place. He’s probably thinking ‘I told her so’ right now, but at least I’m not there to notice it,” I told him.
I was beginning to babble…I noticed I sometimes do that when I’m trying to explain my reasons for my screwups.
“I understand,” he told me.
I love Kaoru.
I take him for granted so much more often then I really should.
I mean he’s always there for me. He always understands. He’s always there to pick me back up when I fall (both literally and figuratively).
I threw my arms around him and gave him a huge hug.
He was slightly surprised, but he hugged me back.
Neither of us were exactly touchy-feely people.
But we did have our sweet brother/sister moments.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
We had all assembled together in Die and Toshiya’s room, where I was currently kicking Toshiya’s butt at a video game.
“Muwahahahahahaha,” I said after he lost.
“Dude, she kicked your ass,” Die said with a smirk. He was feeling much, much better now.
Toshiya glared at Die and muttered something about a thumb cramp as an excuse.
Next, I was facing off with Shinya.
Apparently it was my turn to bite the dust.
It made my mouth drop open slightly.
“You creamed me,” I informed him.
The corners of his mouth twitched upwards. “I did.”
I dropped the game controller and sat on the bed, next to Die.
“Awwwwwww. Don’t feel bad, Kimmy. The only one who regularly beats Shinya is Kaoru,” Die said, slinging an arm around my shoulders.
“Don’t. Call. Me. Kmmy. OK? Do I honestly need to beat that into your head?” I asked him.
“Oh, you cut me deep, Kimmy. I can’t believe you would actually think about hurting me,” he said, jokingly. The arm around my shoulders tightened a bit.
I snorted and pulled Die’s arm off of me.
He mimicked pulling a knife out of his chest.
I rolled my eyes and gave him a shove.
I guess I must have caught him off guard because he fell right off the bed.
Everyone turned to look at Die and began to laugh.
It was kinda funny, but what was so amusing to them about people falling down? Seriously.
In all fairness to Die, he took it much more gracefully then I did. He didn’t emulate a tomato or mutter curses under his breath or anything.
He simply picked himself up off the ground, shoved his red hair out of his eyes, flashed a crooked smile and said, “You are a very mean person.”
“That would make two of us,” I said dryly.
Kaoru and Shinya resumed their energetic video game battle.
Die was right; Kaoru really could kick Shinya’s ass. It made me faintly wonder who get beat Kaoru. Probably no one.
“Why don’t we order some pizza?” Toshiya asked.
At the mention of food, I could feel my tummy talking to me.
I nodded. “Yep. My tummy wants food.”
About half an hour later, the pizza came.
“Let’s see…” Toshiya said, opening one of the boxes.
“Healthy,” he said, handing it to Shinya.
“Plain,” a box of pizza was shoved in my direction.
I tended to be an extremely picky eater. Cheese pizza was the only kind of pizza I would ever agree to eat.
I looked at Shinya’s pizza. It was covered in vegetables and other healthy things.
I hated vegetables. With a passion. My parents even gave up on forcing me to eat them when I was a kid.
I looked at Shinya again. He was a skinny little rail. It was so not fair for any man to be that thin. He could make just about anyone feel fat by standing next to them. It was a bit irritating.
I myself wouldn’t consider me skinny…I was average…somewhat slim, but definitely not athletic or healthy-eating or any of that.
I was only able to finish about half of my pizza. Die and Toshiya happily grabbed whatever was left.
I never starved myself or anything, but I was by no means a bottomless pit. Die and Toshiya on the other hand…you get the picture.
We spent the rest of the night playing video games and whatnot. We also drank ridiculous amounts of Coke.
At least me and Die did. Apparently we were both caffeine and alcohol addicts…but it’d be a while before either of us would want to see any alcohol at all.
I jumped onto a bed that Kyo happened to be sitting on. Bouncing up and down slightly, Kyo gave me one of those ‘What the fuck are you doing?’ looks.
“Hey,” I said.
I wondered if I was weirding him out now. If I was…I had to admit, it was a nice change for once.
He just blinked at me.
Okay…maybe I didn’t weird him out. I don’t doubt that there is very little that Kyo would actually find strange.
Right now, I was wondering just where our relationship was at.
Were we still annoyed by each other beyond all reason…or were we actually just a couple steps behind friendship?
Either way, we were getting along so much better then we had in the past.
We just sat the on the bed side by side not saying a single word to each other. I usually found long silences to be tremendously awkward, but his one was strangely comfortable.
I guess whatever were to each other definitely wasn’t annoying.
A/N: I'm starting to feel that I should have done a but more editing on this chappie...but since turkey day's coming up and all I'm not sure when I'll have time to update...but as far as I know it shouldn't take a ridiculous amount of time.
