Becca slowly came out of the black void of unconsciousness, only faintly aware of people surrounding her. She couldn’t believe what her memory was telling her. Pete covered in blood. The last thing that she heard was his voice telling Becca and Patrick that she was dead. He could only mean Ivy. And even in that he could mean something else as well. Where was the other twin? Surely things weren’t going to be that bad as to have lost both Ivy and one of the twins. Right?
“Oh my god, Becca. Don’t scare me like that again. I barely caught you. Please Doodle, are you okay?” Patrick was absently stroking Becca’s hair as she blinked around the waiting room, which now had more people in it. And when she caught sight of her mother silently crying in a nearby chair, Becca started to sob again.
Becca moved to wrap her arms around Patrick after being pulled down into one of the very uncomfortable chairs. Things were all wrong. Ivy couldn’t be dead. And for one of the twins to be gone? That would be horribly wrong. Surely the world couldn’t be that bad off, could it?
The sound of laughter seemed very out of place as another group of people rushed into the waiting room. Cat instantly took in the somber mood and rushed over to Becca’s side. “Becca, what happened? Why does everyone look like a funeral rather than a birth?” Becca turned her face back into Patrick’s shoulder as she stifled another violent sob and Cat instantly covered her mouth, instant understanding on her face. “Oh my god. She died, didn’t she?”
Ryan came up behind Cat and wrapped his arms around her as he could guess where his wife’s thoughts would go, to the disastrous summer pregnancy of her own. And he didn’t want her to be feeling horrible for something out of everyone’s control. Ryan shook his head as he pulled Cat closer to him trying to reassure her. “I suppose it’s not a good time to tell you guys why Sophie was late to the birth even though she was Ivy’s doctor was because Joe proposed, is it?”
There was more laughter from the entrance to the waiting room and Becca managed to turn in Patrick’s arms to face the new visitors. This time it was Brendon and Spencer, both of which were a little tipsy, Brendon farther gone than anyone else. “Petey’s babies here yet? I’d hate to think of what kind of raking over the coals Pete’s going to get from Ivy back there. Probably ripping him a new asshole.” Brendon was almost yelling he was so drunk, but he didn’t seem to notice anything about the awkward mood in the room.
And just then out of nowhere, Mickey walks right over to Brendon and winds back before throwing a quick punch to the face, causing blood to start pouring from his nose. “You insensitive bastard, my cousin is dead! And one of the twins hasn’t made an appearance either! So you’re celebrating Ivy’s death and quite possibly a baby dying too! How could you?!”
Becca had almost forgotten about Ivy’s cousin who had been freaking out in the corner, barely restrained by Jon. At least until Mickey had lashed out at Brendon. It had almost turned into a complete brawl. Jon was doing his best to haul Mickey out of the waiting room and outside hopefully to cool down with the space and air, while Spencer was holding Brendon back to keep him from rushing after Mickey and continuing the fight.
Pete scowled and went after Mickey, only to be tackled himself with her fists flying before Jon grabbed her and pulled her away from Pete. Mickey started screaming accusations at Pete while Jon shot Pete an apologetic glance as he threw Mickey over his shoulder and carried her out of the hospital by force.
Becca fought the urge to run over to Pete and wrap her arms around him reassuringly, but the thing that kept her in her spot was the blood covering the scrubs that he had been given. She was leery of blood, and knew that would be the only thing that could keep her from running to her brother and doing her best to reassure him as he had done for so many years for her.
“Petey?” Becca’s voice was small and almost child-like as she called her brother’s name. He turned almost as if he had been in another world until Becca had spoken. He shook his head before turning to head back to the maternity ward. His shoulders were slumped over and he seemed completely destroyed. It was that horrible lack of hope and complete distraught mood of her brother’s that made Becca finally lose it even more so.
Patrick turned Becca’s face back into his chest as she sobbed again. Jon walked back into the waiting room after a moment, a large red spot on his cheek along with his left eye already starting to swell. He shook his head, shaking off the looks of concern from the others in the waiting room.
Jon sat down beside Cat and Ryan before giving Brendon a slap on the shoulder. “Good job man. And don’t worry about Mickey. She’s due for a meeting with the men in the white coats. Has been for a while, actually. I’m just glad I was able to find a way to get out of that one with my balls still intact.” Jon turned to look over at Becca with a sad smile. “Sorry that Mickey made a scene. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Especially not your family. Pete’s one of my best friends, and for him to have that kind of thing happen to him, at this of all times, was truly uncalled for. Ivy’s cousin or not.”
Becca smiled reassuringly at Jon shaking her head. “Not your fault, Jon. So don’t feel bad about it. Although I’m sorry that it didn’t seem to work out between you and Mickey. It can’t be a good time to have to deal with a breakup as well. After losing Ivy and the second baby now to lose someone you’ve been living with. That has to be rough.”
Jon smiled and shook his head. “Don’t worry about it, Becca. Honestly. Besides, to be completely truthful, it’s been coming for a while. I’m just glad it seemed to be over without too much of a hassle. I was expecting death threats and all other sorts of horrors. But this was fairly tame for Mickey. So I guess I should be thankful.”
Becca shook her head at Jon’s coolness of the breakup. She knew that Jon was probably feeling a little more horrible than he was letting on, just by having known Jon for as long as she had. Of course he was going to play it calm and keep his personal misery to himself rather than make a scene and steal any form of sympathy from Pete, who really deserved the sympathy for the horrors he was going through.
The next moment Pete walked around the corner into the waiting room, pulling the blood covered scrubs off of him. He made it to the middle of the waiting room before looking around at all the friends and family gathered before sighing heavily and shaking his head. “Ivy and Clover are dead. Violet is still barely clinging to life. The doctor said not to get too hopeful. Things aren’t looking good.”
Becca was in shock for a moment before turning her head back into Patrick’s chest sobbing heavily. This couldn’t be happening. Becca barely registered the words of condolences to Pete as Patrick gave his bandmate and brother a hug before gently pulling Becca towards the exit. He knew that with things this bad that Becca would be best away from all the chaos and misery. He also suspected that Becca’s old nightmares would resurface tonight, and so he didn’t want Becca to be around others when those horrors came flooding back to her. So he pulled her back out to the car and headed home, hoping to keep the tears at bay long enough to reach their house.

A/N #2: So yeah, sorry your Christmas present isn't a happy ending (for now), but this will all work out in time, just like happens in real life my lovelies. So keep with the story and just like real life, things will work themselves out in time. At least we can only hope so. *hugs*
