Kelly woke up stretching in the hotel bed. She had to remember to thank Jason for keeping her from getting completely drunk. She liked being able to go out and not have to wake up with a splitting headache. She also felt like she needed to thank Ashley for something, but she couldn't remember what.
She sat up groggily at the sound of someone knocking on her door. "I'm coming," she yawned, making her way across the room to open it. "Hey Jay."
"Hey," he greeted. "Still up for lunch with Mom?"
"Yea," she rubbed her eyes.
"Ok, just thought I'd make sure you're up, cause I'm going to need your help getting the others up."
"Alright," she laughed. "I'm just gonna hop in the shower real quick, then I'll get the girls. They shouldn't be that bad. You're gonna need a head start with the guys, though, so you better get started."
"True," he laughed as well. "We'll leave around ten."
"Sounds good."
++++++++++
"Ash," Kelly called out as she walked through the door that connected their two suites. "Wake up loser."
Ashley grumbled, pulling the pillow over her head.
"Ash..." Kelly fussed before jumping on the bed. "Wake up..."
"I'll kick your ass," Ashley replied.
Kelly grabbed a pillow, hitting her best friend with it.
"Girl, you better run."
"Are you awake?"
"Yes. I'm up, I'm up."
"My job's done," Kelly smiled, hitting her once more with the pillow and jumping off the bed before she could grab her.
++++++++
Kelly knocked on the hotel room door politely three times before waiting for a reply. The door opened to reveal Kate standing there in a pair of short pajama shorts and a tank top as she rubbed her eyes sleepily, her hair pulled back messily.
"Mornin'," Kelly smiled.
"Hey," Kate returned the smile, stepping aside. "Come in."
Kelly walked into the hotel room to find Jill sitting up, still half asleep in one of the two full size beds.
"Slept good?" she asked, sitting on the chair in the corner of the room.
"Jill snores," Kate replied, crawling back on the other bed where she had been sleeping.
"Kiss my ass," Jill mumbled.
Kelly laughed, "Well, I just wanted to wake y'all up to let y'all know that we're going to my mom's for lunch if y'all want. She's a great cook, I promise."
"She lives in North Carolina?" Kate questioned. "I thought you're from Texas."
"I am. She's not."
"Cool. I'm game."
"Yea, sounds fun," Jill agreed.
"Ok, we're meeting in the lobby at like ten. That's ok?"
"Perfect," Kate nodded.
++++++++++
"Hey Mom," Kelly grinned happily as her mother pulled her into a hug as soon as she walked into the door.
"How are you feeling?" Jeanne asked worriedly. "You sounded a little hoarse yesterday."
"I'm fine. I promise," she moved aside to allow Jason to hug her, as well as the guys in her band.
"Y'all must be the new backup singers," Jeanne smiled as Jill and Kate walked in.
"Yea, Mom, this is Jill and Kate. Guys, this is my mommy," Kelly smiled, giving her mother's shoulders a gentle squeeze.
Kate laughed as Jeanne pulled her into a hug, "Nice to meet you."
"You too," Jeanne smiled hugging Jill as well before looking around. "Where'd the boys go?"
Kelly looked over her shoulder, "In the kitchen."
Jeanne turned around with a sigh, "Boys, y'all better have washed your hands!"
The girls giggled as they followed her to the kitchen to fix their plates.

"So how's the album coming along?" Jeanne asked curiously as they all sat around the dining room table.
"Well, it's been finished for a couple months now," Kelly frowned.
"I know that, I meant with it getting released. I just don't understand why it's taking so long."
"Me either," she admitted.
"The record company wants Kelly to record a few more songs," Jimmy explained.
"But, that wouldn't work," Jeanne replied. "I mean, you said it's a story, right, dear?"
Kelly nodded.
"Well if you change the songs, wouldn't it ruin the story?"
Kelly smiled, "Mom, you should totally run your own record company."
"Common sense," Jeanne patted her hand. "So is that why it's taking so long? Because you won't record them?"
"They figure if they hold out long enough, I'll give in."
"They don't know you very well, huh? I didn't raise my daughter to give in to pressure."
Kelly shook her head, smiling.
"Why do you think they have such a problem with the album?"
"Because they didn't have anything to do with it," Jason replied. "Kelly did it pretty much all on her own, and that scares them."
"Why would that scare them?" Kate asked, confusedly.
"Kelly's their cash cow," he shrugged. "There's no better way to put it. If she realizes that she can do this on her own...that she doesn't need them? They're screwed."
"Well, I'm proud of you for sticking with it," Jeanne nodded. "You too boys," she smiled at the musicians. "It's nice to see people still willing to fight for what they believe is right. Besides, do they really think that just by pushing the release date back you'll give in? You'd think they'd try a little harder than that."
Kelly looked at her musical director uncomfortably.
"How much?" Jeanne asked curiously.
"How much?" Kelly feigned innocence.
"How much did they offer?"
Kelly took a big bite of bread as she replied, her voice muffled.
"Kelly Brianne, what have I told you about talking with your mouth full of food," her mother scolded.
"Sorry," she apologized, earning a couple snickers from her band. She narrowed her eyes at them, causing them to straighten up.
"How much?" Jeanne asked again.
"A few."
"Few what?"
"Million..."
"Like five?"
Kelly shook her head, pointing up.
"Ten?"
"Somewhere around there."
Jill let out a low whistle.
"That's a lot of money," Jeanne noted.
"What happened to being proud of me for sticking up for what I believe in?" Kelly asked, laughing softly.
"I'm still proud of you. I'm just saying...that is a lot of money."
Kelly shook her head, hitting her mother's arm playfully, "You're bad."
"I'm just joking," her mother smiled, taking her chin in her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "You know I'm so proud of you."
Kelly beamed as her mom patted her cheek.
"What about me?" her brother asked from across the table.
"I'm proud of you too," Jeanne nodded, pointing to the wall where she had hung an 5x7 of her son next to the large portrait of her daughter. "See? I hung your picture too."
Jason frowned at the picture, his cheeks a light pink, "Mom...come on..."
"Well, whenever you buy me a house, I'll gladly hang a portrait of you in it."
Kelly giggled, catching the roll of bread Jason threw at her.
"No throwing food," her mother fussed.
++++++++++
"So..." Jeanne smiled as she set two pies on the table for dessert.
"Mom..." Kelly warned, knowing what was coming.
"Seeing anyone, dear?"
"Not at the moment, Mom."
"Not even any prospects?"
"No."
"She got a number last night," Cory blurted out.
"And let me guess," Jeanne looked at her daughter knowingly. "You threw it away?"
"Wiped it off," Kelly corrected, sinking in her seat some.
"Well, what was wrong with the--"
"Mom, please...not now?" Kelly looked at her meaningfully.
Jeanne nodded, "Alright, alright. I swear you get embarrassed so easily now. I almost wish you were like you were when you were little...not a shame in the world."
"You mean running around the neighborhood naked?" Ashley asked. "I don't think that's legal."
"Oh hush," Kelly laughed. "And I'm not embarrassed. I'm just..." she glanced quickly at the two new backup singers.
Jeanne nodded, "We'll talk before you leave."
"Yes ma'am."
++++++++++++++
"You haven't told them?" Jeanne asked as Kelly stood next to her, helping her clean the dishes as everyone else gathered in the utility room.
"Not yet."
"Why not?" she questioned. "You've known them for a while now, right?"
"Well, I haven't really known them for a while. I've known of them for a while. Then I hired them at the end of last summer, and we've hung out a couple times between then and now."
"And you haven't told them?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I'm not sure," Kelly admitted.
"I think you should tell them soon, hunny. You've been very up front with the rest of your band, and for good reason. You spend everyday with these people for months on end. You need to tell them before y'all start really working together and find out they have a problem with it."
"I don't think they will."
"Then what's the problem?"
"I don't know," she shrugged. "I mean, I seriously doubt either would have a problem. But if they did, it would seriously suck."
"Already grown attached?" Jeanne smiled.
"They're both so great, and they fit in so perfectly. I'd hate to have to lose them," Kelly frowned.
