Once everyone got situated, all the guys went back to what she guessed to be their normal routines; Tilo on the phone, Strify and Kiro discussing clothes, Luminor and Shin whispering softly in German, and Yu was still watching her. She ignored him and turned her Zune on. The car ride to the office was a bit awkward, but Scarlett sat silently staring out the window, her Zune playing low enough to hear the others, but loud enough to be in her own world. Tilo talked to the guys about upcoming video and photo shoots, and a performance.
Everyone seemed preoccupied, so Scarlett turned her music up a little louder and tried to translate the street and shop signs. The streets weren’t overly crowded and the motion of the city reminded her of her hometown in North Carolina. Thinking of her old life, friends, and school brought back memories of her accident. As her arm began to burn, her hand reached over and started to rub the scarred skin of its own accord. She closed her eyes and let herself go numb, as her brain began to contain the vault of unmentionable memories.
As her heart rate began to slow and feeling returned to her body, she slowly opened her eyes and looked out the window. The world still looked the same. Couples walking, children laughing, parents scolding. Nothing had changed. Heaving a sigh, she leaned her head back on the seat and stared at a couple passing on the other side of the road. They looked peaceful and happy. That had been her once. Never again. As she dropped her head forward, she reached up with her left hand and fingered the locket under her shirt. ‘Why Tyler? It could at least been both of us.’ The flashbacks started flickering through her mind. Just as a pain started in her chest, she felt a hand touch her thigh which caused her to jump. She turned to see Tilo looking at her with concern. “Are you ok?”
Scarlett looked at Yu, whose face was identical to Tilo’s. She gave a small smile and turned back to the older man and replied, “Yeah I’m fine. It’s just…having to get use to being away from my mom. I’ve never left her before, except for like a week at summer camp, and it was still hard then. I guess it’ll get better with time.” She was only partly lying. She didn’t want to divulge the rest right now. He gave her one last look, as if he knew she was holding something back, but apparently shrugged it off and nodded. The car stopped outside the same building from earlier, and Tilo climbed out bidding them all farewell.
Once the car was in motion again, she looked back down, changed the song on Zune to Aiden’s ‘Last Sunrise’, and started playing with a lock of her hair. About halfway through the first chorus, she felt a tug on her sleeve. She turned to find Kiro staring at her. She pulled an earbud out, asking, “Yes?”
“I was just asking what you were listening too?” he said with a sweet innocent look on his face.
She smiled and replied, “Aiden. It’s a horror punk, semi-hardcore band from Seattle. They’re more underground as they have explicit lyrics which won’t let them have radio play.” She giggled as Kiro raised his eyebrow an intrigued way. She giggled again, “What?”
He shakes his head saying, “Nothing. Just didn’t take you for a ‘horror punk’ type of girl.” She laughed, replying, “I told you I was different.” He let out a small ‘hmm’, “Apparently.” She gave him a big smile, and shook her head. The bassist smiled and craned his toward her, asking, “So what else have you got on there?” Scarlett continued to grin and handed it to him.
Every once in a while he would raise his eyebrow, and she would lean over to see what artist he was looking at. She laughed his reaction to some of them. Including Rammstein, Backstreet Boys, Hanson, Tokio Hotel, and he bounced with joy finding she liked Within Temptation and t.A.T.u. Scarlett heard a quiet chuckle, and turned to catch Yu’s eyeing the pair. He locked eyes with her and held her stare. When he didn’t look away, she blushed and turned her face back towards mp3 player. Her stomach was fluttering like mad. She did her best to ignore it and talked with Kiro for the rest of the ride. Little did she know, her stomach wasn’t the only one fluttering.
The rest of the ride, she shared her ear buds with Kiro and the two rode happily listening to music. When the car turned and began to slow, Scarlett gazed out the window and smiled. The street looked peaceful, flowers bloomed on both sides of the street, children running around enjoying their tastes of freedom from school. It seemed like a peaceful neighborhood. They pulled into the driveway of a light blue flat with a small flowerbed in front. She could see a tree top poking up around the back. Scarlett continued to stare and smile at the quaint little house, till she heard a quiet chuckle from behind her.
Blushing, she walked to the back of the car, which was already open, and retrieved her bags. Shin bounced over and grabbed her suitcase of clothes, linked his arm with her, and started for the house. Scarlett giggled at his behavior, but followed regardless. When they reached the front stoop, Strify was in the process of unlocking the front door. When he finished, he turned to Scarlett saying, “Welcome to our home.”
She stepped into the hall, ahead of the guys, and set her bags down beside the table in the entrance. She turned her head and began looking around the place. Off to the left was the living room, with a flat screen TV, couch, love seat, futon, and recliner. To her right was the kitchen, with an island/bar, and decorative sliding doors. Down the hall she could see six doors; four bedrooms, a spare room, and a bathroom she guessed.
Scarlett turned back to the group and asked, “May I have a look around?” Strify and Kiro nodded, while Yu just shrugged. She walked into the living room and took in the details. The futon was against the window directly across from the TV, the couch was facing away from the door with the love seat across from that and the recliner beside it. The TV sat on a stand that measured about two feet tall and four feet wide. On both sides sat a mini bookshelf about four feet tall and three feet wide that held tons of DVDs and video games. An oval coffee table sat in the middle of the room, and two round end tables sat on either side of the futon. The room was painted a nice shade of green and hard wood floors.
She turned and went to investigate the kitchen. An island sat in the middle, the fridge to her right, the stove behind the island directly across from the table. The wall protruded out beside the fridge with a small door. Curiously, Scarlett walked up to it and reached for the knob. Timidly she turned it and revealed a small, barely stocked, pantry.
Closing the door, she turned to continue looking. A dishwasher sat on the backside of the island, across from the stove. The cabinets, as well as the table and chairs, were a lovely chocolate color with a marble countertop. The walls were off-white and the wood floors extended into here.
She turned and proceeded back down the hall. When she reached the first door, she stopped unsure of whose room she would be intruding upon. Wringing her hands, she looks around at the five other doors, uncertain if she could go into them. Biting her lip, she let out a “hmm” and stepped backwards. Hearing footsteps, she turned to find Strify close behind her, smiling.
He stopped at the first door Scarlett had reached for, “This is the guest room, or rather your new room if want to stay.” He opened the door and stepped back, waiting for her to enter first. She stepped inside and took in the light green walls, off-white carpet, and one window. A door, she guessed was the closet, was to her right. A desk, queen sized bed, and dresser made of mahogany were the only pieces of furniture in the room.
She looked around smiling. She liked it. It was a bit plain right now, but she liked it. Walking over to the window, she pushed the curtain aside and gazed out at the beautiful neighborhood. A row of bushes separated the houses, and a small flowerbed grew underneath her window.
She could feel the three men gazing at her. Blushing, she let the curtain drop and turned to face Strify, smiling. “It’s very beautiful here. And the room is very nice. Thank you.”
Strify smirked, shaking his head, “Well, it’s your room if you want it.” Scarlett nodded, biting her lip, and looked down. An awkward silence settled in until Strify fumbled out, “Well, I guess we’ll let you freshen up or whatever.” A small smile crossed her face as they backed out of the room and shut the door.
She sighed and flopped back onto the bed, frowning. The mattress wasn’t that comfortable. Pulling a face, she stretched and grabbed a pillow, placing it under her head. She felt her eyelids began to droop. Within minutes, Scarlett was sound asleep, snoring slightly.

Groaning and groggy, Scarlett rolled onto her side, pulling the blanket up over her head. She lay there, trying to doze back off. She hadn’t realized how long it had been since she gotten real sleep. It was nice and warm. She snuggled back into her pillow, and settled in. Something was off though. Furrowing her brow, she tried to think through the fuzzy haze that still clung to her.
Her eyes snapped open when it hit her. She was laying the right way and someone had covered her. Scarlett sat straight up, the covers fell from her, and she looked around the room. How long had she been out? She pressed her palms to her eyes, than looked around for a clock. ‘No clock,’ she thought and stood, walking to the window, to find the sun setting. All sleep left her.
‘Holy crap! I slept for about 5 hours!’ Groaning, she retrieved her suitcase and rummaged through till she found a H.I.M. t-shirt, a pair of purple sleeping pants, and her house slippers. She changed and stuffed the dirty clothes in a corner of her suitcase.
She tiptoed over to the door, opening it a crack, peeking out to find the hallway dark. She opened it further and cranked her neck to find it still looked the same from earlier, just a light was on in the kitchen and livingroom. Quietly, she made her way down the hall and peered into the kitchen, only to find it empty. Scarlett whipped her head around towards the livingroom, and found Kiro sitting on the futon with a laptop.
Biting her lip, she stepped into the room causing Kiro to look up and smile. She returned the smile saying, “Hey. Where’s everyone else?”
He shrugged and replied, “They went out to grab something for dinner. Luminor and Shin went home.” Scarlett nodded and started fidgeting with her hands, and was about to leave the room. But Kiro chuckled, stating, “You know you can come over here. I don’t bite.”
Scarlett laughed, walking to the small man, and flopped on the futon, bringing her knees up and wrapping her arms around them. Silence ensued as neither one knew what to say. Finally she turned to Kiro, taking a breath, saying, “Can I talk to you about something?”
“Sure,” Kiro said, nodding, and setting his laptop on the floor. Breathing deeply she asked, “What do the guys think of me?” Kiro smiled, “They like you. We think you’re cool. We talked about you a bit when you were asleep.” She nodded, blushing and biting her lip.
“Well….what about Yu?” Kiro’s brow furrowed in confusion. “I like you. I just said that.”
Scarlett shook her head, “Not you. I meant Yu. Like the black and red-haired dude, Yu.”
“Oh, sorry.”
She just shook her head, smirking. She could tell this was going to get very confusing. “No worries. So, what’s up with him?” Kiro just shrugged. “I don’t know. The best think you could do would be to ask him yourself. But he doesn’t open up to new people very well. Just so you know.”
Scarlett rolled her eyes. Sighing, she replied, “Of course. How come I already knew that would be what I have to do?” The two-toned man chuckled.
“Don’t let it or him get to you. He’s not that bad. He’s actually very shy.” She looked at him with disbelief, but quickly recovered, shrugging. “Ok whatever you say.”
Kiro laughed, which in turn, caused Scarlett to join in. She looked down at the floor, chuckling. His laptop caught her attention. She leaned in closer and nearly jumped and squeed with joy. She turned to him, bouncing, and said, “You like Foamy the squirrel?”
Kiro looked surprised, but a smile spread across his face. “Yeah. You like Foamy too??”Scarlett nodded her head furiously, “Hells yeah! I love Pilz-e and squirrely songs!” The two spent the next half hour watching Foamy episodes, laughing and goofing off. They were half way through Squirrely Songs 2, singing and dancing along, when the front door opened. Neither one of them heard it though, because they had turned the laptop up. They danced and sang till the video ended, and they both fell on the futon laughing.
They both jumped when they heard clapping from the doorway. The two spun around to find their roommates standing in the hallway. Yu was clapping while Strify had his hand over his mouth, trying to muffle his laughter. Yu shook his head and closed his eyes, chuckling. Scarlett eyed the two and let her eyes trail to Yu. As if sensing someone watching him, his head came up and stared straight into her eyes.
They held each other’s gaze, until Scarlett looked away, bringing her hand up to smooth her hair back. Strify cleared his throat, causing Kiro and Scarlett to look at him. “If you two are done with that, we have dinner,” he said holding up a two medium pizzas, and a smaller box. Yu was carrying two grocery bags that contained, what looked like, two bottles of soda, and two bags of chips.
Kiro shut his laptop down, and hopped up skipping to the kitchen after Strify. Scarlett bit her lip and looked up at Yu, to see he was watching her again. He looked around the room, scratching his neck. “Ummm, you hungry?” She shrugged, “A little.”
He nodded, “Well you might want to hurry before Kiro and Strify eat all the pepperoni pizza and breadsticks.” Yu smirked which caused Scarlett to laugh.
“Ok. I’ll be along in a minute. I’m going to call my mom first. I forgot too earlier,” she confessed, blushing. The dark haired man just nodded and replied, “Alright. Well I’ll save you a slice of pepperoni and a few breadsticks.” She smiled and thanked him. As she stood up, he turned and headed to the kitchen, while she walked down the hall to her room, preparing herself for her mother’s burst of emotions and questions.
