Chapter 5: Early
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Antony said looking at Andy.
She nodded her head, "Yes sir, I think it's time for me to move on."
He just nodded, "I take it Ethan is going with you?"
She nodded again, "Yes sir. We both decided that this is for the best, for the both of us. Especially for me, in light of what has happened. Most of my family is there and I would like to be closer to them."
He sighed, "Well I'm glad you decided to stay until the end of the year. I'll give your new boss a great reference, no doubt about that."
"Thank you sir, but no need to worry about that since my new boss is my Uncle." She said with a small smile.
"Well all the same I'll give him one anyway. Have you told Clint and Michael yet?"
She shook her head, "I wanted to tell you first. I was going to tell them right after I told you."
He nodded and stood up, Andy followed in suite. He held out his hand and she took it, "We're really going to miss you. Gonna be hard to train some one with your skill. But I know that you're destined for greater things."
"Thank you sir, for everything you taught me, and I'm gonna miss everyone here as well." They shook hands and he sighed again. He really didn't want to let his best prep person go. But he knew that she was more than just a prep and line cook.
"Go ahead and send Ethan in," he said with a small smile and she she just nodded. She walked out of the party room and saw Ethan sitting in a booth. She sat across from him and smiled.
"How did he take it?"
She gave him a small smile, "Well he's disappointed, but he understands. You're up though. I'll be out back. I'm done for the day anyway. Mary's tonight?"
He nodded and they both got up and started to walk their separate ways. She looked back at Ethan and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled and returned the thumbs up, he took a deep breath and walked into the party room.
Andy walked out back and took off her chef coat and turned her hat backwards. She sat down on the stone bench and rested her elbows on her knees as she heard a small rip. She looked at her t-shirt and saw that her right sleeve started to rip at the seams.
She shook her head and laughed, "Not again," she whispered to herself. She took out her phone from her pocket and saw that she had a few text messages from Lynn. She smiled and was about to answer when some one came out, and sat down next to her "What's up Andes?"
She chuckled as she saw Clint light up a cigarette.
"Not much. Does Michael work today? I gotta tell you guys something," she said just as Ethan was walking out back and so was Michael.
"Well look at that timing," Clint said with a smile.
Andy grabbed her chef coat and stood up, "Michael I need you to sit down. Ethan and I have something to tell you both."
With a confused look Michael sat down next to Clint and both of them stared at their friends. Ethan and Andy looked at each other and nodded. Andy took a deep breath and looked at them.
"In January Ethan and I are moving down to Georgia. We already have a place set up and jobs lined up. We both feel like it's time for us to move on and to finally get out there and see what the world has to offer."
Michael and Clint looked at each other and looked back at Ethan and Andy.
"Are you moving to be closer to your family?" Clint asked.
Andy nodded, "That's another reason. After what's happened the last few years I figured it would be easier to be closer to them. My parents understand, plus I'll be closer to my grandfather too. Instead of being twelve hours away I'll only be about eight. Which isn't much, but it's better than being this far."
Clint nodded and put out his cigarette. He stood up and walked up to them, "I'm gonna miss you guys. It's gonna be really hard to replace ya." He said and he hugged them both. Michael stood up and did the same.
"Well at least we got you guys until the end of the year," Clint said with a smile.
Andy and Ethan nodded, "Yeah at least there's that. Also, could we keep this under wraps for a while? We just don't want anyone to know just yet." Ethan said and Michael and Clint both agreed.
"Thanks guys, we'll see you tomorrow." Andy said, they all hugged one more time and then her and Ethan walked to her truck and got in.
"So does Lynn know about the move?" Ethan asked as she started up the truck.
Andy shook her head, "I haven't told her yet. I figured that this would be a face to face kind of talk. Also she lives in Boston. I don't think she would be willing to relocate. Trying not to have the typical 'U-Haul lesbian relationship.'"
Ethan let out a small laugh, "I hear you on that. Just take it one day at a time. Their tour is over in what? Three weeks? And we'll be able to see them. I'm sure she can't wait to see you."
"I'm sure you can't wait to see Alex," she said with a smirk and gently pushed him in his seat.
"Three more weeks Andrea, and the girl of your dreams will be in your arms." He said with a chuckle and patted her leg.
Andy just smiled and shook her head as she turned down the street that would take them home.
*******************************************************************************
"THREE MORE WEEKS!" Alex said as he got onto the bus and jumped up and down as Brian and Lynn laughed. They were excited to be going home in three weeks as well. Lynn was excited because she would see Andy. Brian was excited because he would see his girlfriend. Alex was excited, well because he was just excited to be going home.
They changed into their pajamas and this time Brian was picking the movie. Lynn's phone went off and she smiled when she saw the name.
"Wow you and Andy have been texting and calling up a storm lately." Alex said as he sat down and opened up a bottle of Mountain Dew.
"Shut up Alex," she said with a smile and started to type a text back.
"Hey beautiful, I don't know where you are tonight, today, or whichever, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you."
"Hey you, we're on our way to Dublin and the finishing up the tour in the UK. I'm thinking about you too. I hope work is going well for you and they're not working you too hard."
"How's your voice doing? I know you said you were having trouble at some point. Are you feeling okay?"
"It's okay for now. They put me on this thing that helps with it. I'm feeling pretty good. Counting the days until I get to see you again."
"Ethan told me to tell you and the guys 'Hi' and make sure you tell Alex he gets a special 'Hi.' I'm glad you're doing better. By the way, HAPPY THANKSGIVING! My family is up here from Georgia and this'll be the first time we've all had Thanksgiving together with everyone in a long time."
"Happy Thanksgiving right back at ya! I had a thought. How about you and I spend Christmas with my family? You could meet them and everything. I mean I kinda already met your family some what :p"
"I don't know baby. Do you think it's too soon? I mean I can only leave for for only two weeks. I can see if I can extend it but that would mean I would have change my flight and I wouldn't be able to meet you at the airport for when you come in."
Lynn reread the text that Andy had just sent. She pulled up her calendar and checked the dates. She had an idea, but she would have to talk it over with her best friends first.
"Hey guys what if we stayed an extra week and explore a city we never been to. If we like it we could put it on our next tour."
Brian and Alex looked at each other and then looked back at Lynn. "What are you talking about?" Alex asked.
Lynn sighed she knew she couldn't keep things from them. They knew each other too well. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. She opened them back up and looked at her two best friends.
"I just asked Andy to spend Christmas with me. I want her to meet my family. She said she would have to change her flight and that she wouldn't be able to meet us at the airport when we come in. She's only allowed two weeks off work. I want to be able to see her when we come in." She explained.
"If you think about it, that's actually a better idea. Then she could stay and spend New Years Eve with you in Boston. Instead of having to come back up again after two weeks." Brian said after a few minutes of silence.
She looked at Alex who was also thinking. He didn't know what to think. He was just ready to go home. But if this would make his best friend happy then he knew exactly what to do.
"I've always wanted to go to Dracula's castle." He said with a smile.
Lynn got up quickly and rushed over to her best friends to give them a hug. "You guys are the best!" she said and held them close.
She really couldn't ask for better friends than these two guys in her arms.
*************************************************************************
"Yes ma'am, I would like to change my flight to December 22nd and leaving January 3rd." Andy was on the phone with the airline and Ethan was right next to her playing a video game.
"That's right two tickets. That's not going to change the price is it?" Ethan stopped playing his video game and he waited for a response.
"Okay, that's sounds good," she looked at Ethan and gave him a thumbs up. Ethan let out a sigh of relief and went back to playing his video game.
"Okay thank you ma'am. That sounds good. Thank you so much. You have a good day," she hung up her phone and smiled at Ethan.
"Well we're going to have to change our last day to at least the tenth of January."
"That's fine," he said taking a sip of his beer.
"I'll call the apartment complex and tell them we're going to be a few days late. I'll also call my Uncle and tell that our coming down there is going to be a few days late as well. Also have to call those people for the town house in Boston to let them know about the change. Lastly, the rental car place in Boston." Andy leaned back and rubbed her eyes and then started to dial the number for the town house in Boston.
Ethan put his hand on her wrist, "I'll do all that. Go get some rest you look tired." He said and he picked up his cell phone off the coffee table and started to dial the number for the townhouse they were going to rent.
Andy patted him on the back, "Thank you," she said and got up to walk to her room.
"Wake me up, when it's time to go to Mary's," she said before closed her bedroom door.
"I got you," She heard Ethan say and she smiled and shook her head. She stripped down to her boxers briefs and found her black and red basketball shorts. She slipped them on and climbed into her bed. She started up her laptop and waited for it to come to life.
She looked down at her phone and started to type a text message to Lynn. When her laptop beeped she looked up and clicked on her internet browser and typed in a website. While she waited for that to load she finished typing her text message and she hit "Send."
A few moments later her phone went off and she smiled. She started to type a reply just as her laptop screen lit up. She finished typing her text message and hit "Send." Then, she typed in the same words she's been typing in her laptop for the last two years. She put earbuds in and clicked on a video. She laid down on her back and got comfortable. Putting her phone on her night stand she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then, she started to listen to the mediation that always put her mind at ease.
**********************************************************************
"Are you ready for some good news?" Lynn smiled as she read the new text she got from Andy.
"I'm always ready for some good news."
"Well it turns out I was able to change my flight to December 22nd and leave on January 3rd."
Lynn jumped up from her seat and let out a small squeal. Alex and Brian came rushing from the back of the bus to see what was going on.
"She's going to be there!" She said looking at Alex and Brian. Her two friends smiled and shook their heads and started to make their way back to their bunks. This was going to be a long four weeks. But there was a happy ending at the end of the tunnel.
**************************************************************************
Andy raised her glass and cheered with her friends. She looked around the table at Mary's and saw her friends laughing and talking. She was really going to miss this place. This was her home for the last ten years. The first time she came here she was nineteen and she spent almost every Friday night here since then.
Then it became three nights a week she was at Mary's. When Mary announced open mic nights, Andy took a shot and went up there and did a couple of songs while playing a guitar. Ever since then Mary made sure her name was on the list.
Luckily tonight it wasn't open mic night. Just a regular Wednesday night. One of her favorite nights to be out. It wasn't too crowded and she knew almost everyone in the bar. Tonight it was her, Juliet, Ethan, Trey, her sister Wendy, and Brittany who decided to stay a little bit longer after Thanksgiving was over. Trevor went back to Georgia with her Uncle and Step Aunt. While Brittany was staying at Andy's parents' place until she left on Sunday.
Part of the reason she stayed longer was to talk to Ethan and Andy about the new restaurant Andy's Uncle was opening. He wanted Andy to be the general manger, Ethan his assistant general manger, and Brittany would be the front of house manger. Her Uncle always planned on opening up another restaurant closer to his hometown but could never find the right crew.
That was until Andy came down for Daniel's service and they got to talking one night. She said she would only do it if she was able to bring Ethan and he would be the assistant general manger. He agreed and they shook on it. The restaurant was being built at the moment. But by the time they would get down there, her Uncle would be teaching both of them how to run the restaurant.
He said he would rather have family this time instead of hiring an outsider. He knew Andy would do an amazing job as well. Given her work history; jumping from restaurant to restaurant since she was sixteen, and learning every trade she could. Now she was given the chance that she's always wanted and she couldn't pass it up.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Brittany asked.
Andy just smiled and leaned on the table, "Just thinking about Georgia and how I can't wait to go home."
Brittany nodded, "I can't wait to have you there. Plus Trevor is going to love having you around more. Instead of having you there only a couple of times a year."
Andy nodded, "We're gonna be down there a little later than we said, because of our trip to Boston."
Brittany gave her step cousin a knowing look, "Let me guess, gonna meet your dream girl?" she asked teasingly.
Andy smiled even more and took a sip of her drink, "Maybe," she said and Brittany playfully hit her arm.
"By the way, I talked it over with Ethan. You can crash at our place. By the time we leave Rick's it's going to be four in the morning. So just shoot my dad a text saying that you're staying with me. I can give you some clothes to sleep in and I have an extra toothbrush as well." She told her and took another sip of her drink. Brittany nodded and pulled out her cell phone from her purse and started to type a message.
Ethan came up to them and sat down across from Brittany, "So what kind of chain does he own again?"
Andy chuckled, "Let's just say we have to perfect our steaks."
Ethan's face lost a little color and Brittany laughed, "It's okay, trust me. Chris knows what he's talking about. Plus he's a great trainer. I've heard nothing but good things about your cooking Ethan. You make amazing Italian dishes! I've had them, remember?."
The color came back to his face, "Aw shucks thanks Brittany," he said with a wink. He patted Andy on the her shoulder and stood up.
"How are you holding up?" Andy asked. Brittany gave her a small smile and looked at her with glassy eyes. Andy moved her chair over and wrapped her arms around her.
"This is the first time he's not going to be at Christmas," Brittany said after she caught her breath.
"Come on let's get some air," Andy stood up and Brittany took her hand and she lead her out of the bar. They were hit with the cool air and Andy took off her denim jacket and wrapped it around Brittany. She gave her a small smile and told her thank you.
"I'm sorry, I should not have asked," Andy said shaking her head.
Brittany waved her hand, "No it's okay. I'm glad you did, because I feel like everyone's been stepping on eggshells around me. I know they've been trying to be strong, but sometimes I feel like I'm going to fall apart and I know I can't," her voice started to break and Andy wrapped her arms around her and pulled her close.
"It's okay to fall apart, we all do at some point. You'll always have some one to put you back together. Sometimes even the littlest person picks up our pieces and puts them back together. You're going to be okay. I'll be here more now than ever. I know I can't take his place, but I'll be there for you and Trevor. No matter what, I'll be there." She kissed the top of her head and she could feel her shirt beginning to get wet because of Brittany's tears.
She didn't care about that. All she cared about was her family being able to be okay and to be able to move on. The entire time she was down in Georgia she didn't shed a tear because she was trying to be strong for her family.
It wasn't until she got back and she walked into her apartment and sat on the couch and finally let the tears fall. Ethan came home and found her. He didn't say word, he just wrapped his arms around her as she sobbed into his shoulder until she fell asleep.
Brittany pulled away from Andy and nodded, she wiped the tears from her eyes and looked up at her and smiled, "What would I do without you?" She asked with a small chuckle.
Andy shrugged, "Ask all the others that are in that bar right now." She said with a smile, she put her arm around her and they walked back into the bar.
Brittany told her she wanted to go to the bathroom to splash some water on her face. She gave Andy her jacket back and she made her way to the bathroom. Andy started to walk back over to the table when someone decided to come up to her and grab her inappropriately.
Before the guy could react Andy had him up against the wall and started to punch him. She got a good three punches in until some one started to pull her off of him.
"TOUCH ME AGAIN MOTHERFUCKER!" She yelled at him as Ethan and Trey were holding her back.
Toby came up to the guy and check him over. He had a cut lip and a broken nose, "Andy! What the fuck happened?!"
"Asshole decided he wanted to get fucking handsy with me! So I got handsy with him! Fucking bastard!" She was still trying to get to him. Ethan and Trey were doing their best to hold her back. They weren't expecting her to be this strong.
"Stupid bitch! She's lying! I was just walking past her and she went crazy!" He said as he spit out some blood. Mary rushed over to them and looked at the guy then back at Andy. She knew Andy wouldn't act like this if it wasn't for a good reason. The last time Andy was like this was eight years ago when some drunk guy got in her face about looking like a guy and that her "kind" was taking all the girls away.
Mary looked at Andy could see rage in her eyes. She looked back at the guy, "Pay your tab and get out. You're not welcome here anymore!"
"Are you fucking serious?! She HIT ME!"
"Yeah but you TOUCHED her in the wrong way buddy! If I call the police you can bet your drunk ass that all these people in here will vouch for her! Now I suggest you pay your tab and NEVER come back!" Mary said and Toby grabbed the guy by the arm and escorted him to the bar.
He stopped and looked at her, "You'll pay for this bitch!" He said and Andy started to launch herself at him again.
But Ethan and Trey held her back. "Okay that's it!" Mary picked up the bar phone and decided to call the cops.
***************************************************************************
"Thank you officer," Andy said shaking the policewoman's hand. The guy that had touched Andy was in the cop car. Apparently he had a warrant for his arrest in another state for pretty much doing the same thing.
She walked over to her friends, "Ethan if you hadn't got that on video I think I would have been in cuffs."
Ethan put his arm around her shoulders, "I honestly had no idea I caught it. I was just recording us about taking shots and then I heard you. Didn't really think I got him touching you."
"Well thank God, because otherwise I would have an assault and battery charge on my record. Or is it just assault? Or is it just battery? Either way thanks."
"You're welcome, but you're okay?"
Andy looked down at her bruised hand and nodded, "Yeah nothing's broken just hurts. Haven't punched anyone in a while," she said with a laugh.
The policewoman came back over and gave her all the information she needed just in case anything pops up. Again Andy said thank you and the policewoman winked at her and gave her another piece of paper. She told them to have a good night and walked away.
Before Andy could look at the small piece of paper Wendy grabbed from her and looked at it, "Damn! She gave you her number!"
Andy looked confused, "Uh what?!" She took the paper from Wendy and sure enough there were numbers on the paper with a note saying to call her when she's not on duty. Then, Brittany took the paper from her and started to read it as well.
Her friends started to tease her about it and she just shook them off, "Yeah, yeah, come on I'm starving. Besides there's no way I'm calling her." She said as she started to walk towards her truck.
"Oh yeah, forgot she has her heart set on Lynn," Wendy said in a sing song voice.
Andy just laughed. "You coming or not?" She asked her sister.
She shook her head, "Nah, I got an early start. Clint needs me in the morning to help with the server schedule." She gave her older sister a hug and worked her way to everyone.
"Yeah same here, you know how that goes," Juliet said with a small chuckle and gave Andy a hug as well. Then gave the others one. Wendy and Juliet got into Wendy's car and drove off.
Andy took a picture of her hand and she posted it on her profile with a caption saying, "Well this is a great way to end the night"
"Okay come on, let's go!" Ethan said as he got into Andy's truck.
She held the back door open for Brittany and she got in, "Sorry about Ethan, he has permanent front seat until one of us gets into a serious relationship and gets married."
Brittany laugh, "Well thanks Ethan," she said sarcastically.
"Yup no problem! Now let's go! I want my heart attack burger!"
"Jeez what's with you right now?" Andy asked as she started the truck and Ethan just gave her one of his goofy grins.
**********************************************************************************
Lynn woke up to a rapid knocking on her hotel door. She grumbled as she turned on one of the lamps and threw the covers off of her and got out of bed. The knocking continued, "I'm coming, I'm coming!" She said but the knocking continued. She reached the door and opened it and before she could see who it was two figures rushed in and both started to talk all at once.
Lynn closed the door and walked over to them. Her eyes focused and saw a very excited Alex and Brian. Both talking and pointing at Alex's cell phone. She put up her hands and they both stopped talking.
"What is going on?" She asked in a hoarse voice. Brian took Alex's phone from and took a few steps to Lynn and he pressed play. She watched the video and saw Ethan saying something about having a good night three other people and they were taking a shot of something.
"Okay?" Lynn asked.
"Watch the background," Alex said rubbing his hands together. She watched the background and saw Andy walk into the bar with a girl and the girl walked away. She was walking towards the table and a guy came up to her and grabbed her.
She watched as Andy put the guy against the wall and started to punch him. The next thing she saw was Ethan look behind him and he said "OH FUCK" and everything went black.
"Look at the picture," Alex said. She scrolled and saw Andy's bruised hand. She put her hand to her mouth and looked at her two friends.
"How long ago was this?" She asked giving Alex his phone back. He took and looked down at it to look at the date it was posted.
"A few days after Thanksgiving," he said.
"That's almost three weeks ago." Brian told her.
"Remind me not to piss off Andy," Alex said with a laugh. Brian chuckled and Lynn just smiled. There was another knock on the door, Brian walked over and opened and in walked Mark with a big smiled.
"Good news! I was able to book you guys an earlier flight! Only you would have to fly into Norfolk, Virginia."
The trio looked at each other and then back at Mark, "When do we leave?" Alex asked.
Mark looked at his phone and started to go through it and looked panicked, "Um well tomorrow the 18th at 3:30am." He looked at the time and it was only three in the afternoon, but still that was a little too soon for his liking.
Again the three friends looked at each other with big smiles, "Do you know what this means?" Lynn asked.
"We can surprise them, and we can fly with them back home!" Alex said.
"We can surprise them at work!" Brian said and gave Alex and Lynn high fives.
"Wait, wait, wait, you guys have friends in Norfolk?" Mark asked looking at them confused. They didn't answer him and they all started to rush. Brian and Alex rushed out of Lynn's room to start packing. Lynn, grabbed her suitcase and started to go through her room and started to throw her things into her suitcase.
Mark still confused started to walk out of Lynn's room and once he was in the hallway he could hear Alex and Brian talking and laughing. He shrugged his shoulders and started to walk down the hotel hallway. He couldn't remember the last time these three were excited to go back to the states. But he knew as long as they were happy that's all that mattered.
Plus, he couldn't wait to get home to his wife and three daughters. He would be home for the Holidays and that was good enough for him. Before he was able to get to his room Alex came rushing up to him.
"Hey Mark we have a quick favor to ask," he said.
Mark looked at him and smiled, "Sure is this about your friends?"
Alex smiled and nodded, " Yeah, see, they plan on flying to Boston on the 22nd. We were wondering if you could pull some strings and get us on the same flight or close to it."
"Sure just give me all the information, like the flight number and the airline and I'll work my magic." Alex smiled and gave him a hug and then gave him a small wrapped box.
"A little something from the three of us. An early Christmas present. Our way of saying 'Thank you' for this tour and watching out for us."
Mark took the small gift and smiled, "Thank you. You guys have truly made this a memorable tour. Can't wait until the next one."
Alex smiled and patted Mark on the arm and started to run back down the hallway. Mark looked after the young man and walked into his room and smiled. This was the best tour he had with these three young people and he couldn't ask for a better way to end it.
******************************************************************************
"ANDY WE NEED YOU ON THE LINE!" Andy heard from the doorway. She had just finished putting away the last of the meatballs into the walk in. That's all she had left to do for the day. But their lunch rush was really busy and she had go up to help Ethan and Cody. She was able to get her prep work done just in the nick of time.
Trey came in and as well as Brandon. Normally Friday and Saturday nights they would have four people on the line making, pastas, dinner specials, appetizers, salads, and sandwiches. On the other side there were another four making pizzas. Normally Friday nights Antony would be making the pizzas, someone would be making, calzones, and strombolis. Another person would stretch out the dough for Antony and the fourth person would coordinate orders between the two lines.
That last couple of weeks Friday nights were super slow. To the point where they were sending people home at seven. But when Andy walked out of the prep room and saw the dining room she tried to hide her shock. The last time she saw the dining room this packed was Fourth of July weekend. She washed her hands and looked up at all four screens and each screen did not have a single free space on them.
She looked at her watch and saw that it was only five thirty and this dinner rush didn't seem to be stopping at this point. She dried her hands and rushed in, "Where do you need me?" She asked Ethan.
He looked up at her with grateful eyes and smiled, "Oh thank God. I need you right here with me." He said in a rushed tone.
"Okay well right now what does the line need to stock up on let me help with that first," she said he listed off things he needed and she hurried to grab them. When she came back she asked Brandon what he needed and he did the same. She repeated this action until every one had what they needed to get them through this crazy dinner rush.
Lynn, Brian, and Alex walk into the restaurant and were shocked to see how busy it was. They could see the servers rushing around to greet tables, taking orders, bringing plates of food to tables, or drinks.
They could hear phones ringing off the hook, and the kitchen staff shouting out numbers and minutes. Lynn caught a glimpse of Andy and her heart started to flutter. She watched as Andy and Ethan were flipping food in the saute pans and moving around like they knew each other's moves.
She bit her lip as she continued to watch Andy and Ethan work together that she didn't hear her name being called. She felt some one tap her on her shoulder and she turned and saw Brian looking at her with a small knowing smile.
"They said it's going to be about twenty minutes for a table, is that okay?" He asked and she just nodded. He smiled and put his arm around her and lead her to the waiting area.
"Do you think she'll see us?" She asked as she sat down on the bench next to Alex with Brian on the other side of her.
Alex looked up and looked around, "I think she's too focused on what's going on in there right now."
Lynn nodded, "Yeah, you're right. I'm just nervous again."
Brian shook his head, "When are you not nervous around her?"
"I've never seen you like this before," Alex said looking at his friend with a smile. Lynn started to blush and she hid her face in her hands. As her two friends started to tease her with a childhood song.
*********************************************************************
"Susanne read your full ticket!" Ethan yelled at one of the servers.
"I got three minutes on three oh six!" Andy yelled.
"Three minutes three oh six!" Trey, Brandon, and Cody yelled back.
"Let's go boys!" Clint yelled as he was pulling a pizza out of the oven.
"Ethan, three chicken piccatas, two chicken marsalas, all with veggie medley and potatoes!" She yelled over the loud noises. She started to get the saute pans ready as another server was trying to get her attention.
"Andy someone wants to say "Hi" when you get a moment," she said.
Andy turned around and all she see was red, "Well tell who ever the fuck that is that they're gonna have to fucking wait until we get this shit's cleared!"
"Watch out boys, Andy's pissed!" Clint said. They knew that when Andy gets pissed off to only talk about orders with her and not socialize.
They all know her face when she gets frustrated or just mad. They hate it when she gets quiet because they know that's when she really needs help. But tonight she was just pissed off. It was damn near nine and they were still getting hit with orders. Deliveries, pick ups, to go, and dining room orders. It just wasn't stopping.
Lynn, Brian, and Alex were sitting at one of the booths in clear view of Ethan and Andy. They could see them working hard and yelling. Lynn could make out some of the words Andy said to the server. She looked back at her two best friends and the both of them looked back at her with wide eyes.
"Well I guess that was a bad idea," Brian said and turned his attention back to the menu.
Their server came over and smiled, "Hey guys looks like Andy's really busy, but if you stick around I'm sure she'll come out and say "Hi" when she can."
"Oh, that's okay, it was my mistake I didn't think at all," Alex said giving her a small smile.
"Well my name is Becca like I said earlier, have you decided or do you need more time?" Lynn looked over at the kitchen and watched Andy making calls again.
"What can you tell me about what area Andy is working in?" Lynn asked, and the server looked back at Andy and Ethan and then back at Lynn and started to explain the area and what she makes. Last time they were there they just got boneless wings, a philly cheese steak, and a chicken parmesan sandwich.
"Ethan, two and a half pages to go!" Andy said as she started to flip a veggie medley in her saute pan.
"That sounds so much better than what you said three hours ago," he said with a small laugh as he started to plate a penne Alfredo pasta.
"Going out on four ninety nine!" Ethan called out.
"Out four ninety nine!" Four voices repeated back.
"Almost there boys! Keep pushing!" Andy called down the line. She looked up at her screen and wrote down a number on a bag and started to bag up a to go container. She wrapped it up and put it on the hot plate in the window, "Paid to go four ninety eight!" Again four voices repeated it back.
"Andy!" She heard and she turned around and saw Becca,
"Becca!" she said with a small smile.
"Hey order five sixty, they want you to make it. All of it," she said and Andy looked up at her screen. She had to press a few buttons on her "bump board" and saw the order. It was a chicken marsala with veggie medley, and roasted potatoes, a chicken francese with the same sides, and a roasted red pepper cream sauce with Fettuccine noddles, shrimp, scallops, spinach, broccoli and bacon.
"For fuck sake!" she said, "Okay well it's like a page away, let me clear some stuff and I'll start working on it!"
"Take your time love, they said they're in no rush," she said with a smile.
"Ethan! Two salmon dinners, three scallops specials and two bowls of soup of the day! Let's get go boys!"
Lynn watched the exchanges going on in the kitchen. She could see Andy yelling at servers and then she yelled at some of her co workers behind the line. She saw Ethan stop what he was doing and grab Andy and talked to her for a second. Andy just nodded and they fist bumped and they started right back to work.
Brian and Alex were watching the people in the kitchen as well, "How do they do this?" Brian asked as he watched in amazement as cooks were working. He saw a couple of servers give them cups of water and they took them gratefully. It was as if on cue all five of them stopped and started to drink as if they were in a chugging contest only with water.
They each got done at the same time and put their cups away and went right back to work.
"I can't even describe what's going on," Alex said also watching in amazement.
Lynn took out her phone and started to text Andy to let her know that she was thinking of her and that she couldn't wait to see her. She knew that Andy wasn't able to get to her phone. But she just wanted her to have something to make her smile after she was done with work.
She turned her attention back to Alex and Brian and they started to talk about what they were going to do for Christmas. Of course they would take Andy and Ethan out to their favorite spots in Boston and their favorite spot on New Years Eve.
It was such a small world the three of them discovered that their favorite spot was the same spot each of them had when they were kids growing up. They didn't discover that until they formed PVRIS. They continued to talk as Becca came over with their small salads and refills of their drinks. They thanked her and she apologized for the wait and that they've been swamped all day.
They waved it off and told her that they understood. She said that she would be back to check on them in a few minutes as she took their empty cups and left. They took their silverware and started to eat their salads and continued to talk about the upcoming holidays and their visitors.
"Half a page Ethan!" She yelled.
"Almost there boys! Keep pushing!" Cody yelled. She looked at his screen he had three fourths of a page, while Brandon, and Trey were still at a full page.
"Ethan you got this?" She asked and Ethan looked up and nodded, "Okay let me know before you get to five sixty remember Becca said that her table wants me to make it."
"I got you! Go help them," he patted her on the back.
She rushed behind Cody and got to Brandon and Trey, "Where are you guys at?"
Brandon looked up at his screen, "We need seven cheese steaks, three grilled chickens, two veggie melts, and two chicken philly sandwiches!" He said and without another word Andy went straight to work on the flat top grill and started to put on everything they needed.
"Brandon read off me to me what the cheese steaks and the chicken phillies need!" He started to read off the list of things that were going on the sandwiches and she was making quick work of everything.
Lynn looked up from her salad and didn't see Andy with Ethan. She looked some more and saw her with two other guys. She was pointing up at something Lynn but couldn't see what it was. She talking with the guy with a goatee and glasses was nodding, while Trey was putting up salads in his window. Andy patted the one guy on the back and went over to the big guy that she met the last time she was here.
He started to talk to her and she rushed out of sight and in a few moments and then she came back with bags of frozen items. Then she started put them away for him. She walked back over to Ethan they talked, he nodded, and pointed at his screen, she nodded, again she disappeared to the back and came back with more items.
Lynn could see how hard she was working and how hard every one was working. She couldn't imagine working in a crazy busy restaurant like this. She would be all over the place, dropping drinks, plates of food, and screwing up orders.
Even though they were busy the atmosphere was genuine and still happy. She knew after tonight every single person would go home have a drink and go to sleep. Then they would wake up the next day and do this all over again.
She always admire people that worked in any industry and she always thought to herself where would she be if PVRIS never happened. Her thoughts were interrupted when Antony came by their table to say "Hi" to them. He remembered them from the last time they were there. They started to talk about their tour and how they were able to come home a few days early.
"Yeah, I know Andy and Ethan were planning to go and see you guys. You here to surprise them?"
"You could say that. We've been watching them work. They work great together," Brian said. Antony looked back at Ethan and Andy and the two of them were laughing at something.
He turned back to them and smiled, "Before Andy was our prep girl, she was on our line and she was one of the best, still is. But she did so well on prep that we kept her there. She trains every new cook that comes through. She trained Ethan believe or not."
"No way!" Alex said looking over at them.
Antony nodded, "Yeah he knows a lot because of Andy. I rely on Andy a lot, so does everyone here. She's an incredible person, bum knee and all."
They all chuckled, "How long are you here for?" he asked.
"Oh we are actually leaving when Ethan and Andy leave," Brian said taking a sip of his drink.
Antony nodded and pulled out a small card and gave it to them, "Well, take this it's for our company wide Christmas party tomorrow night. Andy and Ethan are allowed to bring one guest and this will bring an extra person. So one of you just hold onto that."
Brian took it with a smile, "Well we all know it's going to be me," they all laughed.
"Thank you! This is really amazing," he said and Antony nodded.
"No problem, I'll see you guys tomorrow night. Enjoy your dinner. Heard you requested Andy to make it for you."
They nodded, "Yeah gonna put her skills to the test," Lynn said with a chuckle.
"Like I said she's one of the best. I hope you enjoy your dinner and I'll see you three tomorrow night," he said with a smile and he shook their hands and then walked to another table and started to talk to them.
"Andy! I'm ready on that special order!" Becca called.
Andy looked up at her screen and nodded, "Okay give me like five minutes and I'll have it out," she said.
"Cody could I get two side of potatoes please!"
"Two sides potatoes going down," he called back.
She started to slowly heat up the two chicken dishes as well as the roasted red pepper cream sauce. "Ethan I need two plates and a bowl," she said as she started to flip the veggie medley in her saute pan.
"Ethan I need Fettuccine in the roasted pepper cream!" She started to plate the two chicken dishes first.
"I got you!" He said and place a portion of Fettuccine in the saute pan with the sauce.
"Potatoes coming your way!" Cody said as he placed them in a metal bowl and tossed them in grated parmesan cheese and passed the bowl over to her. She took the bowl and started to plate them on the two chicken dishes next to the veggie medley. Then she pulled the chicken from the saute pan and placed on the plate and then poured the sauce over the chicken.
She repeated the motion with the chicken marsala. She garnished the two plates with parsley and put them in the window. She turned back around and started to toss the Fettuccine in the roasted pepper cream sauce and everything else that was in the dish.
She grabbed a pair of tongs and started to pull the noodles from the middle of the pan and started to twist them into the bowl. Once all the noddles were out she took the rest of the sauce and poured it over the noddles, shrimp, scallops, spinach, broccoli, and bacon. She garnished the bowl with grated parmesan cheese and put it in the window.
"Becca you're up!" She called and then she looked down at every one's screens and they were finally all clear. Clint, Michael, and Brendan started to come over and everyone started to give high fives and hugs all around. The craziness was over, but now it was time to clean up.
Andy offered to stay and help but Cody told her she didn't have to and that she did more than enough. But she insisted so that they wouldn't get out too late. She offered to do all the cooking while every one else cleaned. They all looked at each other and agreed. But Cody was thinking otherwise, he just didn't want to tell her yet.
That would help them get out on time and they wouldn't have to worry about any orders while they were trying to get the kitchen clean. She went to the dish room and started to get small white buckets and started to fill them up with their cleaning solution.
"Zack, there's gonna be a shit ton coming your way. We're just now flipping," she told the young dishwasher.
He just smiled and looked at her, "Bring it on!" He yelled as he loaded the dishwasher. Andy just laughed and finished filling up four white buckets and two at a time brought them out to the kitchen.
"Andy go take a quick breather. You've been here since eight thirty. Go rest that knee of yours," Cody said giving her a small zip lock with ice in it. "I think the back room is cleared out," he said looking at the dining room.
"Yeah Antony is in there. Now go rest that knee for about fifteen minutes and come back and we'll let you know if we still want you here or not." He patted her on the back and she just nodded. She started to walk towards the back room and Becca noticed her slight limp.
"Hey boo, are you okay?" She put her arm around her and started to help her to the back room.
"Yeah, Cody told me to go rest for a few. Guess my adrenaline was pumping so fast I didn't notice my knee."
Becca got her to one of booths and Andy scooted back and put her left leg up on the bench seat and took off her brace. She let out a sigh of relief and put her brace on the table and then put the small back of ice on top of her knee. Antony came over and sat across from her.
"What are we going to do without you?" He said with a chuckle and Andy just gave him a smile and shook her head.
Lynn watched as Andy started to limp towards the back room and Becca went over to help her. Alex and Brian followed her gaze and watched the two walk to the back. It wasn't long until Ethan started to make his way back there as well. Once he was back there he took a seat next to Antony and the three of them started to talk.
From the looks of their facial expressions it was a mix of a serious and fun. The three continued to talk as Clint made his way back there as well.
"How was everything?" Becca came over to them and saw their empty dishes.
"Amazing! It was so good!" Alex said with enthusiasm.
"I need to learn how to make this sauce," Brian said with a smile.
"Is there any way we could talk to the chef?" Lynn asked and her two best friends gave her a knowing smile. Becca looked over at Andy in the back room and saw that she was talking to the mangers.
"She seems to be taking a small break but I'll let her know. Will there be any desert for you guys?"
"I think we might do some ice cream," Alex said point over at a case that has different flavors of ice cream.
"Actually that's gelato, it's a little different than ice cream. Did you want to sample some flavors?"
"Do you have chocolate?" Lynn asked and Becca nodded.
"What about cookies and cream?" Alex asked and she nodded again.
"Okay, but do you have vanilla with rainbow sprinkles?" Brian asked in a skeptical voice.
"Actually our vanilla is mixed and topped with rainbow sprinkles."
Brian's eyes went wide, "Could I get a large?"
"Same for me but with cookies and cream," Alex said.
"Of course and did you want a large chocolate?" She asked looking at Lynn and she just nodded with a smile.
"Okay I'll be right back." She left the them and Cody started to make his way back to where Andy and everyone else was. He looked at them and shook Andy's hand and then gave her a pat on the her shoulder. Andy gave him a look and he just waved it off and nodded. He did the same with Ethan. The two nodded and he started to walk away. He turned his head and saw Lynn. He walked up to the table with a smile.
"Hi, weren't you guys here back in October?" He asked and the three looked up at him.
"Yeah, we're friends with Ethan and Andy," Alex said with a smile.
"Do they know you're here?"
They shook their heads, "No we wanted to surprise them. Our tour ended and we stayed a little longer in Europe, but our manger was able to get us an early flight home." Brian explained as Becca came over with their gelato.
Brian clapped his hands like a little kid when he saw that there were sprinkles on his. Alex just shook his head and smiled. Lynn's eyes went wide when she saw the chocolate in front of her. They told her thank you and they started to dig in.
"How long are you in town for?"
After a few moments Alex was the only one to speak up, "Until Andy and Ethan leave for Boston. We're flying up with them."
"Oh yeah that's right they're going away for a while." He looked up and started to see Andy put her brace back on and Ethan was standing there just in case she needed help.
"Well lucky for you guys I just told them to clock out and go home. Are you guys going to be at the Christmas party tomorrow night?"
Lynn nodded, "Yeah, Antony came over and gave us a card that will let one of us in, since Andy and Ethan can only bring one guest."
"Great! Even though Andy has a bum knee she can still bust a move. You guys enjoy, I'll see you tomorrow!" He smiled and patted Alex on the shoulder and started to walk away.
Once Andy had her brace on and was about to walk out of the party room Becca came up to her, "Hey my table wants to talk to the chef that made their food tonight," she said with a small smile.
"Okay can you give me a few minutes I gotta get my knee working right for a moment and then clock out. Tell them I'll be there in about five minutes," she said and Becca nodded.
"You good?" Ethan asked as Andy started to walk around the party room to get rid of her limp.
"Yeah just worked too hard and too long like always. Plus the sitting didn't really help." Once she was ready to walk just fine her and Ethan made their way back to the kitchen and walked up to Michael.
Becca came over to the trio and smiled as she started to clear away their empty gelato cups, "Andy said to give her a few minutes and she'll be over here. She has a bad knee and needed to put it up for a little bit."
Again they waved it off, "Oh it's okay, we understand. We're not going anywhere any time soon," Brian said with a smile. Becca told them she would be right back with their check and walked away. She was at the computer about to print it out. But Antony came up to her and smiled and told her that he was going to void their entire check. When she asked why, he told her who they were and her eyes went wide. She had no idea she was serving PVRIS.
"Andy, I love you, you're amazing, and I hope you have a great night. I'll see you tomorrow night at Peabody's," Michael said as he clocked her out and gave her a hug.
She smiled and returned it, "I love you too, and I get that a lot and I will see you tomorrow," she said as they pulled apart.
He gave Ethan a hug as well and then clocked him out. Andy went looking for Becca and saw her on the other side with Antony and she walked over to them with Ethan behind her.
"Hey Becca where's that table you wanted me to talk to?" She asked as she and Antony turned around and smiled.
"Oh I have to take their check to them anyway, so just follow me," she said with a knowing smile and Antony gave her a wink. Looking confused she looked at Ethan and he just shrugged. The dining room had a only three tables that had people. Compared to what they had early this was a welcome sight.
Andy pulled out her phone and did a quick time check and saw that it was almost eleven and she couldn't believe she was there since eight thirty that morning. She rubbed her eyes and felt someone's hand on her shoulder as if they told her to stop. She heard Becca tell her table that Antony paid for their meals and gelato and to have a nice night.
Andy's eyes started to slowly focus when Becca pulled her by the arm and she was now in front of them. When her eyes adjusted she looked at them with wide eyes. She glared at Ethan and was about to say something when he threw up his hands, "Hey I didn't know!"
She looked back at them, "Uh, what? When? How? Huh?" Brian laughed and the three of them got up and gave Ethan a hug and then Andy. But Lynn waited until Brian and Alex gave her a hug and then it was her turn.
The two put their arms around each other and welcomed the comfort that they missed for so long. They closed their eyes just enjoying the feeling of being in each other's arms. They wanted to stay like that forever but then they heard some one clear their throat and they pulled away from each other and they smiled.
"So what happened? I thought we were going to meet you guys in Boston?" Ethan asked pulling up a chair and taking off his chef coat, then sitting down in the chair. Andy took off her chef coat as well and Lynn couldn't help but notice the tattoos she got back in October. She also noticed that her muscles seemed to be a little bit bigger.
"Well Mark was able to get us an early flight but it was only to Norfolk," Alex started to explain.
"When did you get in?"
"This morning. We checked into a hotel, took a nap, rented a car, and then came here. We didn't think it would be this busy tonight though." Brian said.
"Yeah, neither did we," Ethan said with a tired look at Andy and she just shook her head.
"But wait, how are you guys getting to Boston?" Andy asked. Under the table her and Lynn were holding hands not wanting to let go.
"That my friend was tricky," Brian told them.
"Mark some how manged to get tickets on the same flight as you two, but he couldn't get us to sit any where near each other. So we'll be on the same flight but different seats." Alex explained.
"Well this was a surprise. Again. What are you guys doing tomorrow night?" Andy asked. The three looked at each other and smiled.
Ethan and Andy looked at each other with a confused look. "What?" Andy said with a small chuckle.
"Well Antony kind of invited us to your Christmas party," Lynn said looking at Andy and she looked back at her confused.
"He told us that you each could bring a guest and then gave us a card that would let one of us get in. Since one of use won't have some one from the company to bring in." She explained.
"Well that answers that question," Andy said with a laugh.
"What are you talking about?"
"Well everyone was wondering who I was going to bring tomorrow night. I kept telling everyone I was going solo and they didn't believe me."
"Because everyone thinks you're gonna take the lady cop." Ethan blurted out and Andy gave him a look as if she wanted to murder him right then and there.
"What lady cop?" Lynn asked looking at Andy. She closed her eyes and sighed. She looked at Lynn and then back at Alex and Brian. She started to explain the night that she punched the guy that touched her.
Alex told her that they watched the video. She nodded and started to talk about how Mary called the cops and that the guy was arrested. The cop that was over seeing it was a woman. After getting information and everything the policewoman gave Andy her number and called it a night.
"But I never called her or texted her, because Wendy took it from me and started to tease me and I took it back. But then Brittany took it and I don't remember her giving it back or not," She said looking at Lynn and kissed the back of her hand.
Lynn blushed and took her other hand and put it on top of Andy's. Brian could tell Andy and Ethan were really tired. But he wanted to have at least one drink with them.
"Hey, I know you guys are tired, but how about a drink before calling it a night?"
"We were actually talking about going straight to Mary's after this," Ethan said with a smile and a wink to Alex.
"Alright let's go," Alex said smiling and then stood up. The five of them got up and Alex turned around and took out his wallet and left two twenty dollar bills on the table for Becca. He knew their food was paid for but he had a feeling she didn't get a tip. He wanted to make sure she got a tip for doing such a great job tonight.
"You guys remember how to get there? We have to walk through the back," Ethan said.
"We can follow you, we're in no rush," Brian told him and patted his back. Ethan nodded and smiled.
Andy kissed Lynn on the cheek and smiled, "I'll see you in a bit," she said in a whisper and again Lynn blushed. They let go of their hands and the two best friends started to walk back towards the kitchen. While the three best friends were walking out of the front with everyone saying for them to have a good night.
Andy and Ethan were going around to everyone giving hugs and telling everyone how an amazing job they all did. They were complimented with the same words especially to Andy for coming up and helping them stay focus. After they said their good nights they walked through the back and made their way to Andy's truck. They saw the trio waiting for them by a car and Andy drove the truck over to where they were.
She told them to follow her and if they lose them to just call and Ethan would give them directions. They nodded and got into their red Focus and Andy waited for them to let her know they were ready. This was an amazing surprise and it was slowly starting to give Andy hope that her and Lynn could actually make a relationship work.
Tomorrow was the Christmas party, and the next day Ethan and Andy would have to start packing for their trip. They couldn't believe that their friends came to surprise them. It was such a great start to their small vacation.
