Chapter 5: Let's Party
"Right here's good." Andy said to guys that delivered her grill. She was so happy it came the day before the party. She could get right to work on it. Also to make sure that her dad didn't touch it. That she would be sure of.
One of the guys smiled and gave her a pen and told told her to sign on the line. She did and shook their hands. She thanked them and walked them out. She watched them get into their delivery truck and she closed the door. She went over to her garage door and opened it. She looked around and found her toolbox she bought before she and Ethan left for their first tour with PVRIS.
She grabbed the black toolbox and walked through the house. Brandon was on the deck already looking at the instructions.
"You know not many guys look at the directions before putting things together." She said putting down her toolbox.
He shrugged, "Well, no harm in trying to do things right the first time. I swear you could fix anything at Ynot. You always seemed to be able to rig something. I'll never forget the look in Ian's face when we told him that you held the flat top's wheel together with cardboard flaps. It worked for three weeks."
They chuckled and she joined him in looking at the instructions. They came up with a plan and went right to work. They heard voices coming through the house.
"Uh oh. They're up early." Andy said smiling seeing her little brothers and sisters running through the kitchen. She heard her mom telling them to slow down. Andy noticed they were all wearing their bathing suits and she looked up at her mom.
"Mom, it's like eight in the morning. Have they had breakfast yet?"
Susan sighed and shook her head, "No, they wanted to come here and swim."
Andy smiled and she bent down, "Okay, here's the deal. You can go swimming, but you have to eat breakfast first. Get something in your tummies so you won't be hungry until lunch time." She said smiling tickling their stomachs.
"Now, go inside. Mom and dad will make you something to eat." They rushed into the house and she looked at her mom, "There's oatmeal in the cabinet above the stove and everything else you need will be in the fridge."
"Thank you."
She smiled watching her mom walk back inside the house. She heard more voices and caught a glimpse of Cathy and Tim. She waved at them, then turned her attention back to Brandon. The two of them started to get to work on the grill.
"Need help?"
They looked up and saw Kevin standing in the doorway with a cup of coffee.
"No offense dad, but the last time you tried to put a grill together it fell apart." Andy said screwing in a panel having Brandon hold it in place.
"It didn't fall apart." Kevin said in defense.
Andy shook her head and looked at Brandon, "We had a Fourth Of July barbeque. Dad was all excited to show off his new grill. He put it together and was really proud of it."
Andy switched out her screwdriver head and started to screw in the other screw that was different from the others. "Anyway, he gets the grill going, he goes in the house to get the steaks and what have you. Comes back out, the grill is hot enough. He puts a steak on the grill and it falls apart.
I'm not talking about the griddle falling into the grill. The ENTIRE thing fell apart. Everyone looked at him and he just stood there in shock."
Brandon started laughing and looked at Kevin, "Is that true?"
"The worst part is what her mother said in front of everyone." Kevin said taking a seat on the deck chair.
"What did she say?" Brandon asked looking between the both of them.
"She said he should have Andrea put it together." Wendy said walking out of the house with a smile and gave her dad a kiss on the cheek.
"No way!" Brandon smiled helping Andy lift up the grill so they could put the wheels on.
"Yup, so the next day, I came over and put the grill together. Let's just say it hasn't fallen apart."
"Hey, what time do you have to pick up the bounce houses?" Ethan asked walking out of the house with a cup of coffee.
"Good morning to you too asshole." Andy said with a laugh.
He rolled his eyes. He leaned down and kissed her cheek, "Good morning bitch, what time do you have to pick up the bounce houses?"
"That's better. I think around two. But I'll double check. I'll call them when I'm done with this grill."
"No, no, no, what's the number? I'll call." Ethan said shaking his head and finger at her. She laughed at him. The other night she explained why she introduced Lynn as her wife. She told him it was because she was in panic mode and she just happened to say it.
He asked if they were married and before Andy could answer him her cell phone started to ring. She dodged a bullet with him. When she came back from talking on her phone she told him that she would explain everything soon. She just had to get this weekend ready. He understood and told her that he was here if she needed to talk. They hugged each other and said good night.
She was so glad to have someone like in in her life. He didn't dwell on things too long, unless it really bothered him.
"I think it's on the fridge." Andy said and looked at Brandon who nodded confirming her answer.
"Be right back." Ethan walked back into the house and now they were joined by Alex, and Justin.
They continued to talk with each other and watched Andy and Brandon put the grill together. Andy and her dad had some banter back and forth. It almost got to the point where Andy wanted her dad to leave because he was contradicting a lot of what she was trying to explain. Wendy noticed and went inside. It didn't take long to hear Susan's voice asking for Kevin. He joked saying duty calls.
Alex and Justin looked over at Andy and saw her stone face. They knew she was upset. Now she would only talk to Brandon about the grill. Ethan came up to them and said the bounce house would be ready at one not two.
Andy nodded and said she would go with him to pick them up. She also told him that they had to keep her dad away from trying to build anything.
"Andy I didn't think your dad would criticize you like that." Justin said in disbelief.
"Being a daughter of a Southerner. I know he tries, but I know what I'm doing. You know after I fixed his grill, he wouldn't talk to me for two weeks. When he did, it was like nothing ever happened. Found out from my mom that he was getting a lot shit at work for what I did. But he's the one that taught me about tools, he's the one who taught me how to hunt, and fish, he's the one that taught me about fixing things. He's the one that taught me how to get by in life. So I just don't understand."
"Maybe he just wants to help you once in a while. Like you said, you're a daughter of a Southerner. The fathers want to see their daughters in trouble to help in some way. Make him feel useful." Alex suggested.
"I think Uncle Chris and Uncle Zane can keep him busy today. Mom, Cathy and Aunt Leslie are gonna be in the kitchen all day. Ooo, maybe the guys can bring Tim along." Andy finished one side of the hood and walked over to the other. She could feel the sun on the back of her neck.
"What time is it?" She asked looking at her friends.
"Almost ten." Justin said looking at his watch. Andy was about to say something when she heard yelling. Then saw her younger siblings rushing to the pool.
"HEY! HEY! SLOW DOWN! I don't wanna take a trip to the hospital." But she was too late when she heard splashes. She shook her head and watched as they all resurfaced and started to splash each other.
"Damn it! I can't go get the bounce houses now. I gotta watch the kids."
"Why do you always assume it has to be you?" She turned around and saw Wendy standing on the deck in her bathing suit. She wasn't alone. Kayla, Brittany, Shey, and Lynn were all in their bathing suits as well.
Andy shrugged, "Cause I'm the oldest."
"Andy we got this. Finish setting up for the party. We'll watch the kids." Wendy led the girls towards the pool and the kids cheered.
Andy had to avoid looking at Lynn in her bikini. She put her attention back on the grill and could have sworn the heat was twice as much. She overheard Alex and Justin say that it was the first time they've seen Lynn in a bikini. Andy cleared her throat and asked Brandon to lift the hood. He did and he brought it back down. She smiled and gave him a high five. They did a few more tests to make sure everything was tight enough and able to stand on its own.
"Okay, let's get the decorations going. Then, I gotta get the meats in the marinade." She said and packed up her tools. She looked over at the pool and her eyes fell on Lynn. She was sitting back in the chair with a smile on her face. Andy rolled her head around and she heard her neck crack. She took in a deep breath, letting it out. She looked at Lynn one more time, then walked inside the house. She shook her head. It's been almost a week and she didn't know how much longer she was able to hold out.
***********************************************************************
"Andy looked like she wanted to jump your bones." Shey said with a giggle. Lynn was able to catch Andy looking at her. Her eyes hidden behind her sunglasses. Wendy came up to them.
"I'm sure she does. She seems really tense lately. I mean when was the last time she got some." Brittany said putting sunscreen on Trevor. Lynn bit her lip knowing exactly when her and Andy had a little escapade. But she shrugged and shook her head.
"I'm sure you're gonna want to jump her bones later." Wendy said with a wink at Lynn, then she turned her attention back to the pool to watch her young siblings.
"Why do say that?" Lynn asked.
Wendy shrugged, "Well, she's in her work blue tank top. Or so she calls it. Her favorite black basketball shorts, and she's gonna be going around putting stuff up for tomorrow. Shey you remember when Andy was putting together the bed frames at our place and your three friends just kept watching her."
Shey shook her head and smiled, "I swear Andy was gonna be part of a foursome she didn't want to be. I mean she already had a threesome. I'm sure she didn't want a foursome."
Lynn sat up and took off her sunglasses, "She was in what?!"
"She didn't tell you?" Kayla asked and Lynn shook her head.
"Tell who what?" Alex, Addy, and Justin joined them. They were all wearing swim trunks. Brittany gave Alex the sunscreen and he started to apply it on himself.
"Shey was just about to tell me that Andy was in a threesome." Lynn said. Caught off guard Alex squeezed the bottle and sunscreen shot out of it. Andy came up to them and saw the sunscreen in Alex's hand.
"Oh sweet, I'm gonna need that. Hey Wendy can you get the back of my neck and shoulders?" She asked as she squeezed some in her hand. She gave the bottle to Wendy and they both started to apply the sunscreen on her. Alex, Justin, and Lynn were looking at Andy as if she grew another head.
Of all the time they spent together Andy never mentioned that she was in a threesome. It was really hard to believe. When Andy and Wendy were done Andy put on her sunglasses and went straight to work on decorating the backyard. Ethan and Brandon not too far behind her to help.
Lynn watched as Andy directed her two friends of where she wanted things to be. Then she smiled even more when she saw little Trevor running up to her. She smiled and picked him up putting him on her shoulders and he started to help her with some streamers.
"I swear when she comes down all he ever talks about is Aunt Andy." Brittany said with a smile, sitting next to Lynn.
"Did you two ever talk about having kids?"
Lynn nodded, remembering their conversation after Ireland, "We did. She told me at first she didn't want any kids. Then, Trevor came into the world and she changed her mind."
"What's going on with you two?" Kayla asked.
"J.R! Stop trying to drown Angela!" Wendy yelled at her brother causing Lynn to look over at her. Andy even looked over to see if everything was okay. She called over to Wendy and saw her give her a thumbs up.
She went back to hanging up some streamers, "Hey Brandon. Gonna be having a big party for my birthday next month in Virginia Beach. I mentioned it to Uncle Chris, wanna come? We could all go and see how Ynot's doing."
"Is Chris going?" He asked untangling some lights.
Andy nodded, "Yeah he's surprising his family with the trip. He just told mom last night. I'm flying Aunt Leslie out too. But Uncle Chris is road tripping with everyone else."
"What about your cousins from Seattle?"
"Oh, they're gonna fly out too. I bought their tickets already."
"How about he just goes back with you?" Ethan suggested.
"Not a bad idea. I go back on the twenty-eighth. Gonna be staying at the Cavalier. I have a small job there, but that'll only take a day or so."
"Aunt Andy, I wanna play in the pool now." Trevor said. Andy smiled and took him off her shoulders. She kissed his forehead and told him to have fun. He ran off towards the pool. She watched as he went up to Brittany and she smiled taking his hand. She guided him into the pool. She then saw her mom's three nephews join in on the action. Her Aunt, Uncle, and grandma came out onto the deck and sat down by the table.
Andy's phone chimed and she checked it, "Shit!" She said and rushed towards the house. Everyone looked at her with a confused look. She rushed into the house and went straight to the living room. She picked up the remote, turned on the TV and found the channel she was looking for. She crossed her arms watching TV just as the Kevin came rushing in.
"Did they say what happened yet?" He asked and she shook her head.
"No, I just got the notification."
The front door opened, "Do we know yet?" Chris said rushing around the couch and stood next to Andy.
"No it just started." All three of them were standing with their arms crossed. Watching the TV.
Sherry, Rose, Krista, and Veronica walked in. Veronica chuckled and walked into the kitchen, while the three young women greeted Susan and Cathy. Before walking outside to join the others. Tim was outside with the younger adults.
The front door opened again, "I didn't miss it did I?" Zane asked joining his niece and two brothers.
"Just made it." Andy said taking a step closer to the TV. The four of them were so engrossed on the program they didn't hear their names being called.
"I swear they worship that team." Veronica said with a smile and a shake of her head. She walked out back to say hello to everyone and Cathy looked at Susan.
"You don't seem too fond of Veronica."
Susan sighed, "I am, it's just, I'm still getting used to her. Just how my girls are. Her and Chris have been married for close to ten years, but you have to understand Leslie was there for me when Kevin was deployed. She would call me about three times a week to just talk. I was there for her when she was raising Kayla and Addy. She was getting stressed and asked how I did it. I told her that when things got tough I would always have my girls." She wiped her hands on her apron and started to stir something in the pot.
Cathy smiled and touched Susan's arm, "I wish I had someone like you when I was raising Lynn and David. They were handfuls." They both chuckled and then they heard shouting coming from the living room.
"I swear, sometimes I think I have a son. When it comes to Andrea" Susan said with a laugh.
Chris, Zane, Kevin, and Andy were all talking at once at the TV. After a few minutes Andy shushed the three men and they continued to listen to the TV. Tim came into the kitchen and looked at Susan and Cathy.
"Whoa, what did I miss?"
"I don't know. Susan thinks it's sports related." Cathy told her husband.
"Okay, everyone outside wants to know. I'll be back." He kissed Cathy's cheek and walked outside. He walked over to Veronica and sat down in the chair between her and Shey.
"So what happened?" Kayla asked.
Tim just shrugged, "Something to do with sports. On my way in they were shouting at the TV." Addy was just about to ask and they heard shouting coming from the house. Wendy came up to them shaking her head looking down at her phone.
"Well, I figured it out." She said still looking at her phone. She rolled her eyes and looked at everyone, "Turns out Georgia's offensive line coach got fired, and they hired the Florida's offensive line coach."
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" Addy said as he rushed out of the pool. Kayla not too far behind. They both grabbed their towels and wrapped themselves up. They rushed into the house and joined the other four in the living room. The four of them still talking about what happened.
"It's just a college team. Why do they get so worked up?" Justin asked swimming over to the side. Wendy looked at him and lifted up her sunglasses.
"Don't EVER say that to them! Don't EVER say that again! That is one thing you do not say!" Wendy said angrily. She took a breath and calmed down, "I'm sorry it's just there's a big rivalry with Georgia and Florida. Andy, my dad, my cousins, and my Uncles love college football. More so than the NFL. So for this news to break, it's kind of upsetting."
Justin shook his head, "No, I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking."
Wendy sat down on the side of the pool and put her feet in. She took Justin's hand and smiled, "I'm sorry for yelling but they're just passionate about this. I grew up around this. I do watch with them, but I don't get as excited. Normally my mom and I would go and get our nails done." She said with a small chuckle.
"KIDS LUNCH!" They heard Susan yell. Wendy saw her and Cathy setting up the table on the deck.
"Okay guys let's go eat!" She called out to her siblings she stood up. With the help of Lynn she wrapped them up in their towels and they walked up to the deck. They got them seated, and settled. The young adults joined them and helped bring out some of the food Cathy and Susan prepared. Brittany and Lynn helped them fill up their plates until they all had something to eat.
Susan told them to go ahead and eat. Then they heard more shouting coming from the house. Wendy couldn't help but roll her eyes along with Susan. As if on cue they all came outside on their cell phones talking in haste.
"That's our fucking season gone!"
"We're gonna lose to Alabama again!"
"So much for Nationals!"
"This is so wrong on so many levels!"
"Of all the damn coaches!"
"No! My lineup is in! This is gonna be a horrible season! We're gonna drop so bad!"
The six of them ended up somewhere in the backyard talking on their cell phones about what happened with the coaches.
"This is more entertaining than watching TV." Alex said and everyone laughed as they continued to watch the six family members pace back and forth in the backyard.
"This is gonna be the topic of conversation for the next three weeks." Brittany said with a sigh and everyone agreed.
***********************************************************************************
"Okay, pull." Andy said with strain. Ethan pulled the rope along with her. When they got it tight enough, he started to quickly tie a knot. When he was done he seemed out of breath. Andy chuckled.
"Relationship weight getting to you?" She said jokingly and he stuck up his middle finger at her.
She patted his back, "Come one only eight more to go." He groaned and they went over to the other side to do it all over again.
Ethan almost had to take Andy's phone away from her because they had to go and pick up the bounce houses. When she was finally off of it she looked at him in frustration and he told her they had to get going. She shook her head and gave him an apology. Before she left her mom stopped her asking if she had planned to get anything for dinner. Andy mentioned she had dinner planned out. Uncle Chris was going to close one of his restaurants, so all of them could enjoy dinner together and have the whole building to themselves.
She smiled at her mom and told her that she had announcement as well as performing her new single for them. Susan hugged her oldest daughter tight, then let go. Then she told her to leave before she was late and rushed back to the kitchen. Andy watched after her and smiled. Her mom wasn't really an affectionate person, but lately she was. It was really strange to Andy, but she would take it. If there's one thing she just wanted her mom to say was that she was proud of her. The last time she heard those words was when she was seventeen wanting to join the Marines.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard a loud car horn and turned seeing Ethan in the truck he rented she smiled. She got into the truck and they were off. Forty five minutes later they came back and unloaded the deflated bounce house and went straight to work.
Chris, Kevin, Zane, Tim, and her grandfather all went out fishing and said they would meet everyone at the restaurant. Veronica was getting to know Lynn, and Shey. Leslie came by to help Susan and Cathy prepare food for the party tomorrow. Along with Susan's family. She was also teaching Cathy and Leslie some Tagalog.
Wendy, Brittany, Addy and Kayla were in the pool with the younger kids, along with Susan's nephews. Sherry, Krista, and Rose were sunbathing along with Alex and Justin. Brandon, Ethan, and Andy were setting up the bounce houses.
After Ethan and Andy set the knots, Brandon brought out extension cords, with Andy's help they plugged in the bounce house. But didn't turn them on because Andy didn't want the kids to get too excited yet.
She heard some yelling and looked up and smiled seeing Lynn rush up to David. He had to unexpectedly leave because something happened at his job. He didn't know if he was going to be back. After just one night he had to get going. He said if he could, he would be back. Andy got the phone call about an hour ago about him being able to come back. She and Brandon went back to work. Ethan said he was going to take a break and walked in the direction of David.
"You had us going for a minute when you left." He said with a smile and hugged David.
"I'm sorry, but for some reason they couldn't get the deal unless I was there. I do have to leave on Monday to get back though. But I couldn't miss this. Where's Andy?" He asked looking around trying to find her. Lynn pointed at the far end of the yard and he chuckled.
"I thought she would be hanging out by the pool getting her tan on." Everyone laughed and shook their heads.
"When have we known Andy to relax?" Alex said and David nodded knowing he was right.
"Hope you brought your swim trunks." Justin said patting his friend on the back.
"Oh, yeah, can't wait to get in that pool tomorrow."
They all continued to talk until Susan came out telling everyone they had to get ready to go to dinner. Andy and Brandon didn't hear her. They were still working on the bounce houses because one of the generators didn't seem to work right. No matter how hard they tried the two wouldn't look up. Between the sounds of the younger kids and everyone trying to get them together, Susan was the one to walk over to them.
"Andrea! You're red!" Susan said looking at her oldest daughter, "Did you put on sunscreen?!"
"Yeah I did, guess I forgot to reapply." She said putting a panel back on the generator.
"Well, come on everyone's getting ready to go to dinner."
"I'll meet you there mom. Gonna try to figure this out. Might have to call someone if we can't get it to work."
Susan sighed, "Brandon can you excuse us?"
Brandon nodded standing straight up and started to walk away. Susan looked at her daughter still trying to figure out the generator.
"Andrea stop playing with that and look at me!" She said loud enough for everyone to hear. Andy looked at her mom and stood straight up. She had flashbacks of when she was younger. Her mom yelling at her and Wendy when they would get in trouble.
Susan took her hands in hers and sighed, "Babe, I know you want tomorrow to be perfect. But please just set that aside for now and get ready."
"How about this, everyone get ready first and I'll be right behind them. I'm sure once I figure this out, everyone will be ready to go."
"You still need to shower."
"So do at least five other people. Just come get me when you and the kids are ready to go. I'll have Ethan drive me. Or I'll take my truck. Brandon's been keeping up with it so that it didn't just rust. I also still have to marinate the meats."
"Oh, honey we did that already. But you promise you'll be at the restaurant at six thirty."
Andy smiled, "Yes, mom, I'll be there."
Susan touched her cheek, "Okay, I'll go and get them ready." Andy nodded and watched her mom walk away. Once she got to the deck Andy turned her attention back to the panel and Brandon joined her.
"I think I know what's wrong." He said and they both bent down and continued to work on the generator.
******************************************************************************
"She's been on that phone since she's parked. I'm gonna break that thing if she doesn't come in here in the next ten minutes." Wendy said looking out the window of the restaurant.
"Wendy come on, it might have to do with the party tomorrow. Let's get some food." Ethan said putting her arm around her turning her away.
"I just don't get it. She wants to spend time with us, but she's spent more time on her phone than with us the last few days."
"She has a lot going on. I'm sure after this weekend she can relax."
Wendy scoffed, "She hasn't relaxed since she was fourteen."
Andy finally walked in with a smiled. She walked up to her parents and whispered something to them and they hugged her. Wendy noticed and before she could walk over to her she saw Andy go to the small stage they had set up. She took the microphone spoke.
"Hey everyone!"
Her entire family and her friends turned their attention to her and there were smiles on their faces.
"I wanna thank everyone for being here to celebrate my parents for being married for thirty three years!" She smiled when everyone cheered and turned their attention to her parents and they made their way to the stage. They stood next to Andy and smiled.
"We all know how they met. But I love telling this story. Dad had just graduated A School and his first station was in the Philippines. He was working nights so after work he would finish his shift, go to the bar, get drunk, sleep it off, and go to work. Well one night my mom just happened to be working."
She paused and smiled at her parents, "Little backstory of bar tabs back then. We all know a bar tab here is a tab of your drinks when you're out and you pay it at the end of the night. Well, when a girl was working at a bar a bar tab would be how much would it be to take them home for the night. So dad being a young drunk sailor asked my mom what hers was. Next thing he knows he gets a slap across the face."
The room roared with laughter and Andy quieted them down laughing herself, "Mom asked him who does he think she is and to come back and ask her again in a couple of weeks. Now, you would think a guy getting slapped across the face after being turned down would just give up. But not my dad. He came back with flowers for my mom and an apology."
She motioned for Wendy to come up on the stage.
"Flash forward to when they had me in October of eighty eight. Before I was born, we found out that mom and dad had broken up. There was a miscommunication with them. According to my dad during a phone conversation he thought my mom said 'I care about you if you have a problem. I DON'T care about you when you DON'T have a problem. He told her 'Okay, kiss my ass,' and hung up. After a while mom gathered her friends like all women do when they're ready to beat some butt."
Everyone chuckled and Andy continued her story, "She went up to my dad's work and asked if he was going to be there for his child. Now he was caught off guard. I mean your baby mama coming in squad deep at your work she means business. But that part I never got. So flash forward to my dad's proposal. When I first heard this story I thought my dad was joking but he wasn't."
Andy smiled and cleared her throat. Before she continued she saw someone walk in and she smiled. The person gave her a small wave and stood in the back.
"I was expecting that he planned this whole romantic thing, as most guys do when they propose. But not my father," she chuckled before she continued, "Turns out he took my mom into a janitor's closet. Of course you would think there's this big speech, and then the question 'will you marry me?' My dad asked a different question."
Andy smiled and made eye contact with Lynn, "He asked, 'what are you doing for the rest of my life?'" She turned her attention back to her parents and smiled.
"So they got married, and thirty three years later they're still going strong. You know, a lot of people say marrying young is a mistake, but these two have overcome a lot. They pushed through the roadblocks and stood their ground. An old coworker of mine back in Virginia asked me how my parents make it work. I shrugged and just said, my dad makes my mom laugh. My mom is a tough cookie, but when my dad makes her laugh, that's when I know."
Ethan gave her a glass and she raised it, "Mom, Dad, Wendy and I love you. We couldn't ask for better parents. To Susan and Kevin."
"Susan and Kevin!" Everyone cheered watching Kevin and Susan hug their daughters. Then Kevin took the microphone from Andy.
"Thank you Andrea, Wendy and everyone. I know this weekend is all about Susan and I, but it's also about our daughters and what they have accomplished over the years. I missed out on a lot when they were growing up. But I was able to be there for the other big moments. Teaching them how to ride a bike, how to play sports, watching them excel in life."
Everyone clapped and he smiled at his daughters, "Wendy, has always been a go getter. She always knows what she wants before she does. She never backed down from a fight, and she has always been my buddy. She was the typical daughter but she was also so much more. She would try to do everything Andrea wanted to do when it came to sports. But she would quickly get bored. She was more into playing with makeup and dolls."
He chuckled, "I remember one time, she was about four or so and she was really quiet. Susan and I knew something was wrong. We found her in the bathroom with Susan's make up all over her face. We didn't know whether to be mad or laugh. So I quickly got the camera and took a picture. Susan asked what she was doing and in her little gibberish she said that she wanted to be pretty like mommy was.
Sometimes when I look at her, I see that four year old trying to put on her mom's make up. But now she's a beautiful young woman that is about to join a successful PR firm in Boston. You were made for this. I love you."
The room erupted with cheers and applause as he hugged Wendy tight and gave her a kiss on her forehead. He did the same with Andy then he gave the microphone to Susan. He gave her a small kiss and wink.
Susan cleared her throat, "I remember when we first moved to Virginia and just after we got settled in our first house, Kevin was deployed for six months. We had a leak coming from our upstairs bathroom. Normally Kevin would try to fix it. But one morning I heard banging and I went to the bathroom and saw Andrea trying to fix the leak. I asked what she was doing and she told me that she was trying to fix it so I didn't have to call anyone. I didn't have to call anyone until Kevin came back home. I don't know what she did but she fixed it."
She took Andy's hand in hers and pulled her close, "I couldn't have gotten through those six months without her. She was my little fixer upper. There were times where I was worried about her. What mother doesn't worry about her children. When she told me she was going on tour and taking pictures; my first thought was how was she going to pay her bills? She's always been bad with her money. But these last couple of years she's been doing so well."
She paused and wiped a tear from her eye, "So much so that she's going to be opening a gallery in Seattle and Roswell." The room erupted with cheers, but Andy calmed them down with a smile.
Susan smiled and turned to Andy, "I'm so proud of you. I'm proud of you both. I love you both. Thank you for everything you've done for us. Your dad and I love you two so much and we want you to live out your dreams. To Wendy and Andrea."
"Wendy and Andrea."
Andy blinked back her tears when she hugged her mom. When they pulled away Chris came up to her with a guitar. With one more hug from her parents and sister, she stood on the stage and Chris set up the microphone on the stand. Before he left she grabbed his hand and whispered something to him. He nodded and started to set another microphone stand. Andy tuned her guitar. After a few minutes everything was set to go.
She got off the stage for a moment and worked her way through the crowd. She came up to someone and took their hand. She led this person to the stage, ignoring the murmurs. She smiled and cleared her throat.
"This is a song that I planned on releasing soon. So y'all are going to be the first ones to hear it. I needed some help with the harmony. So I hope you guys don't mind but I invited my friend Hayley Williams of Paramore to help me out tonight."
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
Susan hit Ethan on the arm and pointed at the younger kids and he quickly apologized. She gave him a stern look at first then smiled. She hooked her arm through his, "Thank you for taking care of my girl."
Ethan shrugged, "She's the one that helped me." He kissed the back of her hand and pulled her close. Susan was a like a second mom to him since he was away from his family in Wisconsin.
"Did you know about this?" Lynn said coming up to him and he shook his head.
"I've kinda been in the dark for the past year. So I have no idea what's been going on."
Lynn nodded and turned her attention back to the stage.
Andy strummed her guitar and started to play the melody. She smiled at Hayley who smiled back and nodded. She took a deep breath and started to sing.
That was Chris's cue to start the small slide show he had on the projector that would be on the screen next to the stage.
"I was a boat stuck in a bottle
That never got the chance to touch the sea
Just forgot on the shelf
No wind in the sails
Going nowhere with no one but me
I was one in a hundred billion
A burned out star in a galaxy
Just lost in the sky wondering why
Everyone else shines out but me
There were pictures of Susan and Kevin from when they started dating, to their wedding day. Andy wanted to do their wedding song, but she figured she would wait until tomorrow night. There were even baby pictures of Andy and Wendy that Chris was able to sneak in.
But...
I came to life when I first kissed you
The best me has his arms around you
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
Susan moved over to Kevin and he put his arm around her, "Happy Anniversary." He whispered to her and kissed her lips softly. Lynn looked over at the two of them and it touched her heart. She looked back at Andy and their eyes met again. Just four more weeks and they would be able to tell everyone else what's been going on.
I was a worn out set of shoes
Wandering the city street
Another face in the crowd
Head looking down
Lost in the sound of a lonely melody
Empty pockets at a roulette
Always landing on a lost bet
Just live for the spin and hope for the win
Go all in just to lose again
The crowd laughed when they saw the picture of Susan shoving wedding cake in Kevin's face. Then, switched to a more recent picture of them with Andy and Wendy. Kevin smiled at Wendy and put his other arm around her. The next picture was one of the four of them and their new additions to their family.
"I can't believe we were able to adopt them. It still feels like a dream." Susan said and Kevin kissed her forehead.
"It's all because of you. They love you and adore you. The girls love them too. We'll raise them and we'll be able to help them make their dreams come true. Just like our girls."
"I knew I loved you for a reason." Susan said giving her husband a kiss.
But...
I came to life when I first kissed you
The best me has his arms around you
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
The worst me is just a long gone memory
You put a new heartbeat inside of me
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
One of the pictures that came up was of the four of them and their family down in Georgia. Before they were introduced to Brittany and David. Right after that one, it had Brittany and David in it. Wendy saw Brittany and went over to her, "I miss him too." She whispered and put her arm around her step cousin. Trevor pointed to the screen and said David's name. Brittany smiled and blinked back her tears leaning into Wendy.
I was a boat stuck in a bottle
That never got the chance to touch the sea
Kayla and Addy were with their mom Leslie they each had an arm around her as did she. She was so happy that Andy and Wendy included her with this. She was with a part of her family again and she wouldn't trade this weekend in for anything.
I came to life when I first kissed you
The best me has his arms around you
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
The worst me is just a long gone memory
You put a new heartbeat inside of me
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
Thank God I'm yours
Thank God I'm yours
Thank God I'm yours"
(Song and Lyrics by Russel Dickerson)
Andy and Hayley ended the song and everyone cheered. Andy released the guitar from the strap and set down on the guitar stand. She hugged Hayley and thanked her. She took her hand and they both gave a small bow.
When they got back up Andy smiled, "Okay y'all, let's party!" Her family and friends cheered again as the two stepped off the stage. Andy went over to her parents and Hayley made a beeline for Lynn giving her a hug.
"Oh my God! It's so good to see you!" Hayley said hugging Lynn tight. She returned the hug and when they pulled away Lynn smiled.
"I didn't know you were coming!"
"Well I was in the area, and Andy asked for a favor. I couldn't turn her down! After all she's done for me on our last tour. I knew it was my turn to help her out. But you! Come on! We HAVE to catch up!" She took Lynn's hand and went to the bar to grab a drink.
Lynn said that she was the designated driver so she wouldn't be drinking. Hayley gave her a knowing smile and a wink. She ordered her drink and told them to make Lynn's drink was a virgin. They got their drinks and Hayley took her hand again and she found a booth. They sat across from each other and Hayley smiled.
"I want to know EVERYTHING!" She said with a smile. Before Lynn could talk, Alex, Justin, David and Ethan came over to them. Hayley gave Lynn and apologetic smile but she just gave her a wink. They started to get lost in their conversation.
Andy looked over at their booth and smiled. She figured Lynn could use another girlfriend that could relate to her. Not only through music, but through other things as well. They still had to talk about things, but that would come soon enough.
The night went on with everyone enjoying themselves. But it wasn't long until her parents said they had to get the little ones to bed. Same with Trevor. Andy understood and she walked them all out. Brandon left with Brittany and they said they would be over in the morning to help with anything they had left to do.
After they left, everyone that stuck around were enjoying themselves. They would enjoy tonight and tomorrow would be the big one. Tomorrow, Andy remembered Ashley would be at the party. She just hoped Ashley wouldn't bring up anything about Michigan. Also, Ashley would bring her daughter. She hoped Ashley wouldn't make a scene. That's the one thing she didn't need. Was for another ex to make a scene.
But right now she would enjoy her time. She missed out on so much and this time she didn't want to miss a thing.
**************************************************************************
It was the day of the party and Andy woke up at four in the morning to get things ready. She wanted to get a head start. She finished her morning routine and got dressed in her 'work' tank top, black basketball shorts, and her black and blue sneakers.
She started her morning off by going out back and turning on the bounce house to see if they worked. Since they were having trouble with one. She turned on all of them and smiled when she saw them come to life. She turned them off and started to set up the tables and chairs.
She heard a voice and turned around seeing Hayley standing on the deck with a cup of coffee. With a confused smile Hayley came down to her, "Good morning." She said in a cheery voice.
Andy smiled lifting a table with ease, "Good morning to you too. What are you doing up? I thought you were heading back to Nashville." She said setting down the table and walking back to get another one.
Hayley shrugged, "Well I missed Lynn and we didn't really catch up since the boys interrupted us. Rudely might I add."
Andy shook her head, "How'd you like Ethan last night?"
"Oh, he's so funny! Shy at first but funny! By the way I also wanted to let you know I'll be coming in a few days early for the party next month. I can finally meet this Michael you keep telling me about." She said with a wink.
Andy chuckled, "All I can tell you is just to walk in and watch him make some pizza. He's known for not making any mistakes. You walk in I'm sure he will."
"You say he's single?"
"Are you ready to get back into dating?" Andy looked at her with raised eyebrows as she set up the tables.
Hayley shrugged, "I mean, can't hurt to try. Plus you talked him up so much that I can't wait to meet him."
"I swear he's going to faint when he sees you. He was so jealous when I told him I was tour with y'all." After Andy finished setting up the tables she started to set up the chairs.
"What time does this thing start anyway?" Hayley asked looking around at all the decorations.
"Around three or four. I wanted to get everything set up. My mom, Cathy, and Aunt Leslie cooked up a storm last night. I'm gonna be manning the grill. Hoping to have all the food done by four. So we can all relax and eat."
"You relax? Andy the ONLY time I've seen you relax was when you were sleeping! By the way how are your nightmares?" She looked at her friend with concern.
Andy shrugged, "They're fine. Can't control what I dream. I think I need to go back on my meditations. My therapist is pissed I haven't seen him in a year and a half." She picked up four chairs at once and rushed over to the tables.
"Andy! Watch yourself! We don't need you to get hurt again!"
She put down the chairs and caught her breath and looked at Hayley with a smirk, "You've spent a long time with me. You know how stubborn I am."
Hayley sighed, "Of course, but that doesn't mean you have to push yourself. I've been meaning to ask you. What do you hope it is?"
Andy looked up at her and shrugged, "I don't really care, but I am hoping for a-"
"Andrea! We're trying to sleep!" Ethan shouted from the upstairs window. She looked up at him and flicked him off.
"Well come the fuck down here and help asshole!" She called back and he just groaned and slammed his window shut.
"He's not coming down. That boy LOVES his sleep. Plus everyone came back here and got drunk. They all went to bed about an hour ago." Andy said shaking her head.
"What time are they gonna be up and ready?"
"Hopefully before noon. Everyone's gonna be hungover besides Lynn. Ethan and Wendy are the worst when it comes to hangovers though. I need to make sure I have a burger waiting for Wendy. Ethan's gonna want french fries or tater tots." She explained to Hayley.
"You know your family and friends so well. I love it. I'm gonna grab some more coffee. You want anything?" She stood up from the pool chair and looked at Andy.
"Yeah, there should be a Gatorade in the fridge. I'll take that and a bottle of water. I had my coffee already. Thank you."
"You got it." Hayley smiled and walked up to the house. She looked back at Andy. She was happy to see her new friend with her family and friends. She knew she missed them terribly. When Andy called her about having time off all she could say was it was about time for her to enjoy herself.
She loved having Andy on tour. So much so she invited her back on this last tour. But she knew she was tired. After their last tour Andy was off and running to different countries, different states, just non stop. It wasn't until the two ran into each other in Nashville back in March. That's when she noticed how tired and drained she seemed.
It took a lot of coaxing but Andy finally opened up to Hayley. Just how Hayley opened up to Andy. She sighed remembering everything Andy told her. With one more look at her friend she walked into the kitchen.
"Well, good morning!" She said to Lynn with a hug. Lynn smiled and returned the hug. When they let go of each other Hayley started to make herself another cup of coffee. Lynn could help but recognize the ingredients.
"She got you hooked on her coffee too huh?" She asked with a chuckle seeing Hayley nodded.
"The only difference is she brought some chili honey. I need to find some. For the life of me I can't find it anywhere." Hayley said stirring up her coffee.
"What's she doing?" Lynn nodded towards the backdoor.
"She's getting the tables and chairs set up. She said she wanted to get a head start. She also wants to get the food ready by four. So I'm pretty sure she's gonna be running around until then."
Lynn nodded and sighed, "She's been non stop since she left to go on tour with you. I would get so worried about her. Thank you for watching over her."
Hayley hugged her friend again, she pulled away and nodded, "Of course! When I found out who she was to you, I knew I had to take special care of her. Had to make sure she made it back in one piece." She smiled and then turned to the fridge. She saw the Gatorade and bottle of water.
"You wanna come out and join us?" Hayley asked and Lynn shook her head.
"Oh, right, the agreement." She said with a wink.
"But today, we might be interacting with each other. Andy's ex Ashley is gonna be here. Can you do us a favor and just go along with it?"
Hayley nodded and before she walked out of the kitchen she looked at Lynn, "Which one is Ashley?"
Lynn chuckled and shook her head. Today was going to be an interesting day.
*****************************************************************************
"He's a damn spy. That's what he is!" Andy said flipping over a steak on the grill.
"I agree. Kirby is too smart to hire this guy. Like why this guy? Doesn't make any sense." Addy said taking a sip of his soda.
The two went back and forth about the news they got about their football team. It was getting close to four and everyone was having a good time. Friends would start arriving soon, and Andy still had to get dressed properly for the occasion. She was still in her outfit from this morning. She looked around the backyard and smiled. The kids were playing in the pool. The older gentlemen were under one of the tents talking and laughing.
Cathy, Susan, her family, and Leslie were in the kitchen finishing up. Veronica was again talking to Shey and Lynn. Addy, Kayla were standing with Andy by the grill. Everyone else was scattered. Justin, David and Alex were playing with her mom's nephews. Brittany and Wendy were talking with Sherry, Rose, and Krista. Ethan and Brandon were doing one last check over on the bounce houses. This was enough for a party, but Andy also wanted to have their family friends as well.
That didn't take long. People started to show up just as Andy took off the last steak from the grill. She set it down on one of the tables and went into the kitchen to check on her mom. She asked if she needed anything. Susan told her to start bringing out the food so she could have some more room. Without question Andy went to work. She called over to Brandon and Ethan. They had just turned on the last bounce house and walked towards her. She asked them if they could help her bring out the food.
They didn't even question her and made a beeline for the house. Everything was going smoothly. Nothing could go wrong today.
Everything was set and ready to go. Andy, Brandon, and Ethan went up the stairs to change. After the three of them took quick showers they got ready. Andy was leaning against the dresser in her room. She looked at herself in the mirror and shook her head.
She was wearing white nice dress pants, white short sleeve button down tucked in. She was wearing her watch Brian got her a couple of years ago. She told Ethan to not push her in the pool or Brian would have his head. He nodded saying that he was already cussed out by Serenity because of her last watch.
While looking in the mirror she noticed she's lost some weight. But gained some more muscle. Her gray undershirt peaked through, but she didn't mind it. She adjusted herself one last time. She checked her hair. She made a mental note to get a hold of Jennie. It was almost time for her to get another haircut and color. The silver was working for her and she didn't want to go back.
She opened her door and was greeted by Ethan, "Whoa! You look weird." He said honestly.
"It's cause I'm in white, not black, not red, or any dark color." She said with a chuckle and started to walk down the stairs. She found her black and white checkered VANS and slipped them on.
"You're still Hercules to me." Ethan whispered and quickly rushed away. She shook her head and walked out to the back yard.
It was in full swing. The DJ was playing music, people were dancing, eating, laughing, talking, having a good time. The kids were in between the bounce houses and the pool. She stood by the deck steps and just took it all in.
She took a look at her watch. She would be giving her speech in an hour. This one made her nervous, but she would be able to get through it. Just as she was about to take a step down some came up to her and took her hand in theirs.
She turned seeing Lynn, "Ashley and Taylor are on the hunt for you. They want you to meet their daughter."
Andy nodded and together they stepped off the deck and joined the party. Before the party Andy sent out a mass text to her cousins and friends. She promised them she would tell them what was going on with her and Lynn. But for tonight just go along with everything and keep it low key.
Andy went around introducing Lynn to some of her dad's friends. She was having a good time listening to stories of her dad growing up and answering questions.
"We've missed you around here. When are you coming back permanently?" One of her dad's friends asked.
"I'm not sure, Rich. Got some vacation time, then I'm off to Seattle and Roswell, to set up my galleries." She said with a smile and Lynn hooked her arm through hers.
"Lynn you gotta a good one here. Don't let her go." He said gently patting Lynn on her arm.
"She's the good one Rich, keeps me in line." Andy said giving Lynn a kiss on her forehead. They continued to talk until they were pulled into another direction.
"Andrea! I heard about that scandal with Nicole! How horrible!" The older woman said and Andy nodded.
"Yes ma'am it was. But everything was settled. They aren't allowed to contact me in any shape or form. If they do, I'm to report them."
"I'm just glad the judge took your side of things."
"Thank you Aunt Shirley. Have you met my wife Lyndsey?"Andy smiled and her Aunt looked at Lynn and smiled.
"Oh my goodness! It's so nice to meet you!" Shirley said hugging Lynn.
"Kevin has told me all about you! Welcome to the family!"
"Thank you. It's a pleasure to meet you too." Lynn said with a smile. Andy and Lynn continued to talk to some of Andy's relatives.
Ethan watched and he shook his head, "How can we just go along with this? I mean are they or aren't they?! I'm so confused!"
"Honey, I know you want to know, but they would have told us right?" Alex said kissing the back of his hand.
"I don't know. They keep telling us that they're gonna tell us but they don't. How much longer do we have to wait?"
"Babe, stop worrying about that and let's enjoy this. We have her back. Right now that's all that matters."
Ethan sighed and smiled, "You're right I'm sorry." He gave Alex a small kiss on his lips, "Can't wait to get you home."
They heard a small commotion and looked over. Andy was hugging two women and when they let go they both started talking to her all at once.
"What are you two doing here?!" Andy asked.
"Wendy and Kayla called us."
"We didn't know if we could come."
"It's been so long."
"We heard you were back."
Andy laughed and held up her hands, "Okay, okay, slow down. Wendy and Kayla called you both?"
They nodded, "Yeah, we only just got here. We drove all night." The curly brunette said.
"We missed you the last time. We were actually in town, but we were too late to come see you. Uncle Chris said you had to take off." The blonde said.
"Come on, mom and dad are gonna love it that you're here." She took their hands and led them over to her parents. After they saw each other Andy left them with a smile to catch up. She couldn't believe her two cousins came. They haven't seen each other in about six years. Not since their grandmother's funeral. She found Lynn and walked up to her giving her a gentle kiss on her cheek.
"Who are they?"
"Remember me telling you about Jake?"
Lynn nodded, "Yeah, you couldn't go to his memorial because his mom was scared your grandfather was going to do something terrible."
"They're his sisters. Crystal and Katie. I haven't seen them since grandma's funeral. When they're done catching up with mom and dad I'll ask if they can come to Virginia."
Lynn smiled and put a hand on her cheek, "You have such a big family and I love how you want all of them to be there."
Andy kissed the heel of her hand, "I want your family to be there as well. It's going to be a great day."
They were about to give each other a kiss when Andy heard her name being called. She turned her head and saw Taylor and Ashley walking up to them with a little girl about eight walking in between them.
"Just when I thought we could avoid them all night." Andy whispered and gave Lynn a quick kiss on her lips.
"Hey! Glad you two could make it!" Andy said shaking their hands. Lynn did the same.
"Who is this little princess?" Andy said bending down with a smile.
"This is Madeleine." Taylor said with a smile.
Andy kneeled down on her good knee to get to here eye level. She could tell she was shy because she was hiding behind Ashley.
"Madeleine, it's nice to meet you. Let me ask you a question. Do you like to jump?"
The little girl nodded shyly. Lynn smiled watching Andy interact with her ex's daughter.
"Well we have four bounce houses! You can jump in all of them! Wanna go jump?"
"Yeah!" She said jumping from behind Ashley. Andy smiled and slowly got up. Lynn reached down and helped her. Andy held out her hand for the little girl and led her towards the bounce houses.
"How did you and Andy meet?" Ashley asked.
Lynn smiled, "It's kind of a funny story. I met her as a fan, and we got to know each other. Long story short, she became our band's photographer. Then she was off to tour with other bands and she's back for a while."
"Must have been hard not having her around." Taylor said putting her arm around Ashley's waist.
"It was, but she was living out her dream. How did you two meet?"
"I went in for a haircut and the rest was history." Taylor said with a smile.
"I'm a hairstylist, but I got out of that when I met Taylor. She saw I had more potential in something and I went back to school for a while. Now here we are." Ashley said looking at Taylor with a smile.
"How long have you and Andy been married?" Ashley asked. Before Lynn could answer Andy returned.
"Well, looks like Angela is gonna show her the ropes." Andy checked her watch and whispered something in Lynn's ear. She nodded and Andy turned back to Ashley and Taylor.
"I have to get ready to say my speech. But it was nice seeing you both again." She was about to walk away but Ashley stopped her.
"Hey, Mat says hi."
Andy smiled and gave her a confused look, "Uh, Mat? I'm not sure if I follow."
"You know Mat my best friend. Used to live in the same apartments as we did."
Andy shook her head, "I'm sorry, I don't recall. Look, I really gotta get ready to say this speech. Babe, wanna help me gather everyone?"
Lynn nodded and took her hand. She gave the couple a smile and they walked away. Taylor looked at Ashley, "I thought you said you wouldn't bring it up."
Ashley just sighed and the two started to have a conversation.
********************************************************************************
Andy stood on the small stage and smiled. She cleared her throat and spoke into the microphone.
"Thank you all for coming tonight. It truly means a lot. Not just for me, but for my parents as well. I wanted both sides of my family here tonight. Little did I know just how big we are." She chuckled along with everyone.
"I heard in a song once that love is hard to be but good to keep. I'm not gonna lie, growing up I watched my parents go through hardships. To the point where I thought they were going to get a divorce. But they worked through it. They fought for their love, and they've stayed in love. Being married for thirty three years is a huge. My dad's parents were married for over fifty years." She looked at her grandfather and smiled. The crowd applauded and cheered.
She smiled and when everyone quieted down she spoke again, "There is one moment that always sticks out in my mind. I was seventeen, dad and I were watching a football game. Our favorite team was playing, so the only times we would get up would be during commercial breaks."
"No surprise there!"
"Shut up Ethan!"
They laughed and Andy shook her head and continued, "Well, mom was on the phone and she sounded upset. Really upset. The second half of the game just started and dad got up and walked into the kitchen. He leaned against the counter and waited for my mom to get off the phone. When she did she walked right past him and went upstairs. I thought dad would come back and watch the game. But he stood against that counter with his arms crossed looking at the floor. Twenty minutes later my mom comes downstairs and all my dad did was open his arms and my mom walked right to him.
They stood like that for about fifteen minutes and next thing I knew they went upstairs. It was in that moment I knew what true love was. My dad didn't ask what the phone call was about. He just knew my mom needed him. My mom is an independent person and so is my dad. But they lean on each other through the good times and the bad. They praise each other when something good happens to them.
Sometimes they still act like the two young people that fell in love for the first time. Yes, they married young, yes they became parents young, but they stood the test of time and made it thirty three years. It's rare to hear that now a days. They keep their love alive and they keep each other happy.
I always told myself when I fall in love, I wanna love like my grandparents, like my mom and dad. I found that kind of love. I wasn't looking for it. I was so consumed with my work and all of a sudden I found myself with someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. Finding something like that is one in a million. We can fall in love time and time again, but to find someone to keep that spark alive, to touch your heart and soul, is rare. Susan and Kevin found that in each other."
She turned to her parents sitting at the table and smiled through teary eyes, "Mom, Dad, you raised Wendy and I to be strong and to follow our dreams. You taught us to be true to ourselves and that the world may not be what we expected. You were there for us when we needed you, you were there when we didn't even want you to be. We couldn't ask for better parents. To Susan and Kevin. The best parents I could ever ask for. Happy Anniversary."
The crowd cheered and Andy cued the DJ, "Now, this song is the song they danced to at their wedding. I wanted to sing it tonight, but I wasn't able to hit those high notes that Steven Perry hits. So mom and dad enjoy." The crowd chuckled as Kevin led Susan to the makeshift dance floor and they started to slow dance to their wedding song.
Andy turned off the microphone and walked over to Lynn and smiled. She kissed her cheek and Lynn leaned into Andy as they watched her parents dance together. Shey started to snap away at her camera. That's when Kevin and Susan started to motion to them to join. Andy took Lynn's hand and led her to the dance floor.
She pulled her close and Lynn smiled, "I'm so proud of you."
"For what?"
"Just working so hard the last couple of years. Being able to follow your dreams. You did all that yourself."
Andy shook her head, "Well I had a little help."
Lynn touched her cheek, "But look around. You did this. You worked so hard to make things work and just seeing you be happy and carefree is all I want for you. Like when you came to Boston for the first time and it snowed while we were Christmas shopping. I knew you were going to be someone special in my life."
Andy sniffled and quickly wiped a tear from her eye. She cleared her throat and looked into the hazel eyes that she always got lost in, "You are the-" she started put Lynn put a finger on her lips and laughed.
"For once just take a compliment."
Andy nodded and smiled, "Yes ma'am."
"That's more like it." She leaned in and they kissed softly. They were lost in the moment and then someone tapped Andy on her shoulder. They pulled away and she turned around seeing Ashley.
"Do you mind if I cut in?"
