Jasmine wanted to get something really nice for Candice’s birthday, which was in less than a week. Freida’s birthday was two days before then, but Freida was going to visit family instead. There was no rule saying the women couldn’t leave the resort; only that they couldn’t tell anyone about it. Jasmine ultimately picked what she considered a fitting gift, but the process of deciding on it took a lot of thought.
Jasmine asked Jessica Goicoechea if she was planning to get Candice anything. Jessica said she was going to get something from her clothing line, but had yet to decide on the exact item of clothing. Jessica asked Jasmine what she got Candice for her last birthday. Jasmine told her, but added that she didn’t think Candice should get the same gift two years in a row. Candice deserved better than that, and Jessica emphatically agreed.
Jasmine also thought about getting strippers in a cake as a joke. Rita and Christa said they would be happy to volunteer if Jasmine actually went with that. Daniela and Raven also volunteered themselves, attempting to outbid Rita and Christa by also offering to do a samba dance for the Brazilophile. Jasmine would say each time that she appreciated the offer, but she didn’t actually want to bother the kitchen staff with making a cake big enough to feed everyone in the resort ten times over.
Margot offered to give Candice a tattoo to mark the fact that it was Candice’s 30th birthday. Jasmine was hesitant. Not because Victoria’s Secret models couldn’t have tattoos - Chanel had one, for example - but because Candice would already have gotten a tattoo by that point if she wanted them.
As I said, Jasmine did ultimately decide on a gift for Candice. You see, Candice is a big Bob Marley fan. So Jasmine approached Jhené about singing Could You Be Loved to Candice. Jhené said she would be honored.
“You know what would make that even better?” posed Jhené. “If we got someone else and we could sing it as a duet.”
“That would be pretty cool,” Jasmine concurred. “Just pick anyone other than Ella.”
Ella didn’t like reggae music. She said it sounded to her like she was late to something, like the music that plays at the tail end of a party when most of the people went home. She was a big Rihanna fan, though. Jhené remarked that perhaps they could get Ella to sing Caro Emerald, who has songs that kind of have hints of reggae but also have a jazz lounge feel that would fit absolutely perfectly with Ella’s husky voice. But Jasmine didn’t know who Caro Emerald was, nor did she expect Candice to know, so they stuck with Could You Be Loved.
“How about we get Barbershop?” Jhené suggested next.
“Barbershop” was a nickname for Camila, mostly to avoid confusion with Camilla Luddington.
Jasmine thought about the suggestion and said that if Jhené could get Camila to agree to it, they were good to go. Jhené smiled and said she would ask Camila right away.
