so, i know this seems like a really fast change of pace or emotion or whatever, but that's because it is, lol, and there's a reason for that which may not be obvious at first, but it will be, anywho, yea, so here's an update. enjoy!

Kelly opened her eyes as she ended the song, looking at her lap top, praying that it recorded properly because she didn't think she could do it again. She let out a sigh of relief, saving the file containing the new song as her phone rang. She picked it up quickly, hoping that it was the call she had been waiting for.
"Kelly?"
"Yes?"
"Hey, this is Dr. Lopez," he replied. "What are you doing right now?"
"Nothing that can't wait," she said quickly.
"Good because I have a flight set up this afternoon for the six of you."
"Six?"
"Well, you and Alex, and then you said your brother and your friend and Carrie, right?"
"Yea."
"And then the doctor that will going with y'all just in case."
"Oh, right," Kelly nodded.
"You did read over all of that stuff I sent you, right?"
"Of course. Yea, my brain's just kinda scrambled, that's all."
"I understand," he said gently. "Are you packed already?"
Kelly looked at the small suitcase that had been packed since the day he had told her the news. The good thing about being able to afford things was that meant she could afford enough clothes to leave at both houses, leaving her with very little to actually lug back and forth.
"Absolutely."
"Alright, well, if you all could meet us down at the hospital as soon as you're ready..."
"We'll be there in a bit," she replied. "Thank you so much."
"Not a problem," he said before hanging up.
Kelly quickly dialed a number.

Carrie looked at the name flashing on her screen, jumping up.
"Kell?" she asked quickly. "Is everything ok? Are you ok? How's Alex?"
"You ready to go?"
"Yea, of course, I've been ready."
"Alright, we'll pick you up on our way to the hospital."
"Ok," Carrie bit her lip, nodding. "See you in a bit."
Carrie frowned as she hung up. The trip would definitely be interesting. Before everything had happened, she wasn't sure where her and Kelly's friendship had stood, in a much different way since that night, and then throw in Alex, plus the fact that she knew the Texan well enough to know that she hadn't dealt with Graham at all...

"You sure about this?" Kelly asked Dr. Lopez as they all gathered in the general waiting area down stairs. She hadn't actually been in that room since the day she and Alex met.
"I thought this is what you wanted," he frowned.
"Yea, but only if she's up for it. I mean, she's strong enough, right?"
"She'll be fine," Dr. Lopez nodded.
"For how long?"
"You never know for sure."
Kelly nodded, taking a deep breath. She felt Carrie's hand brush against her own, and she took it, giving it a gentle squeeze, more for her own reassurance than the country singer's. Carrie smiled, lacing their fingers together tightly.
"I can walk just fine," they heard a voice pout as Alex turned the corner, being pushed in a wheelchair by a nurse.
"Hospital policies, Alexandra."
"It's Alex," she crossed her arms.
Kelly knelt down, fighting back the tears at seeing the small girl up and about again. She was no where near what she used to be, but seeing her like this was so much better than seeing her in that hospital bed.
"Kelly!" she smiled, getting out of the wheel chair, and wrapping her arms around the Texan.
"Hey munchkin," Kelly replied, hugging her tightly. "God, it's so good to see you smile."
Alex laughed as Kelly pulled back to look at her bright green eyes, "You all ready to go?"
She nodded.
"Alexandra, you need to sit," the nurse frowned.
Kelly narrowed her eyes, picking up Alex in her arms as she stood, "She's fine. I got her."
Alex wrapped her arms tightly around Kelly's neck, beaming.
"Miss Clarkson--I presume," the nurse smiled tightly.
"Kelly," the short Texan nodded.
"I'm Dr. Lansing," she held out her hand.
Kelly raised an eyebrow, her hands were kind of occupied.
Carrie reached out shaking the woman's hand, "Nice to meet you."
"Wait," Ashley laughed to herself. "Are you the doctor that's going to be staying with us?"
"Yes," Dr. Lansing nodded. "And you are?"
"Amused," Ashley smiled, watching as Kelly held Alex protectively, turning to Dr. Lopez.
"I thought you were going to be the one coming with us."
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't get the time off," he apologized.
"But I don't even know her, and you know I can't have someone I don't know, let alone trust at my house."
"She's a great doctor," Dr. Lopez assured her. "She'll take perfect care of Alex."
"Seems real sweet too," Jason quipped under his breath, making Carrie and Ashley giggle and earning a glare from the female doctor.
"Kelly," Dr. Lopez said softly. "Everything's going to be fine. You guys just go have fun, alright?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded, turning her head and smiling at Alex, rubbing their noses together playfully, making the small girl laugh. "Let's go kiddo."
"Following you," she smiled as Kelly gave her a gentle squeeze.
"Hey you," Carrie smiled.
"You coming too?" Alex grinned as they walked out of the hospital.
"Duh. I said I would."
"Kelly said you would. "
Carrie laughed, "And you think I was going to go against her?"
Alex held out her tiny fist, and Carrie hit hers against it, smiling as the girl wrapped her arms back around Kelly, holding on tightly with the hugest of smiles.
