“Mike! Mike!” Phoenix is coming up to me, but I give him ‘the look’ and he stops in his tracks.
They can’t see Rosie... If she’s as sick as Epsilon hinted, then she may not be able to hold her skin pigments.
I test the door and open it, being careful not to look around until I’ve shut the door firmly - the sound in the room is awful - telepathy is scrambled and I can’t see except through my external eyes.
I turn and spot Rosie, lying heaped on the floor, unbound yes - but lifeless.
“Rosie... God no...” I sink to my knees at her side, ignoring the stabbing pains shooting up through the wounds on my legs and the screaming daggers plunging themselves in and out of my chest.
Hell it hurts...
I stroke Rosie’s neck - its cold to my touch, and the skin looks so horrible - no longer that nice colour she has - it’s a pale blue.
Blood is congealing on the floor, a navy blue shade... And a light pink liquid that I don’t recognize.
The room feels heavy, the air thick and barely breathable... My heart starts pounding again... The walls, floor and ceiling all seem to close in around me, heaviness, like iron chains and weights pull me down, along with Rosie... Rosie...
The voice comes out of nowhere -
“Mike...” Her voice, low, weak.
“Rosie! Rosie! You okay?” I stumble over my words - so happy that she’s still alive that even though I know I can’t move, I want to jump up and whoop like Chester did when we won our first ever award.
Instead I run my hands over her back, tears shining in my eyes from relief.
“Eth xbo... Nĭ eth rcneor roev etrhe... Eth osrete gtnhĭ... Ntru tĭ fof...” She murmurs.
“Why?” I ask.
Rosie sighs deeply.
I bite my lip and look around - there - the stereo. I drag myself back up and hurry as fast as the fog will allow me, over to it, pulling the plug out of the wall - suddenly everything becomes clear.
The fog in the room, dark and hazy - pulling down on my body like a ton of bricks suddenly vanishes, and everything feels lighter - my telepathic eyes begin revolving again, frantically mapping out the world out side of the walls.
Rosie lets out a sigh of relief.
“Do you need any help standing?” I ask.
Rosie blinks slowly, tilting her head on the floor to look up at me with soft, calmed brown eyes.
No. I will rest for a time, you must go and see to it you heal. I will come in a short while; I just need to gather some strength.
“Okay... You’ll be okay?” I nibble my lip.
“Go.” She murmurs.
Even as she spoke, her skin began to darken, slowly, ever so slowly returning to a normal colour.
I smile and leave, carefully walking out of the room and closing the door quickly so no one has a chance to look in and spot Rosie.
I grab onto the closed door, whimpering in sudden pain closing my eyes and trying to steady myself - I feel faint, dizzy and unstable - my entire chest is screaming in agony - fire burning up my chest.
I can’t breathe...
Seems only now that I notice that blood is still seeping from all of the cuts on my back, all the cuts and wounds that must’ve churned up my skin like bloodied mince meat... How much can I lose before I die?
The weird, abstract thoughts keep whirling around in my head even as I stagger deeper into the door - something course brushes against my foot, a soft, gentle paw presses down and then lifts.
“Thanks cat... I didn’t think anyone would hear me.” I murmur through pained gasps.
You’re welcome master... All I ask for in return is your attentions.
The tabby purrs and licks my feet - suddenly it stops.
Master, aren’t you okay?
I mumble something that I don’t know what I meant and slide down the door a bit, so dizzy and weak I can’t figure out which way is up - let alone keep myself there.
“Mike!” Chester’s calling for me.
I grunt and suddenly all goes black.
