Stepping down from the plane Jade held Maggie securely in his arms. Poor Maggie had hated landing, but had slept, or peacefully gurgled her way through the rest of the flight. Jade was rocking her softly to calm her down after the landing had popped her small ears. Gerard watched on looking hurt that there was nothing he could do to stop the fear in his small daughter. Holding onto her Moses basket he walked through the airport, with one arm around Jade. Maggie cheered up as they came toward the exit, grinning at her father settled him at once and he stuck his tongue out at her, making her giggle.
Gerard’s face dropped however when he saw the crowd waiting at the gate for him. Scanning along them he recognised fans, reporters and photographers al lined up waiting to bait him. Ordinarily he would have taken time to talk to his fans, but not when he had Maggie with him. Jade quickly stuck Maggie in her basket, which caused howls of outrage from both Maggie and the reporters. Passing the basket to Gerard she pulled up the hood and glared at the photographers, trying to invade their privacy. Gerard ignored Maggie’s outbursts or anger and held Jade close to him, walking through the reporters. Their ears rang, as their names were screamed at them, Maggie’s name popped up too. The real fuss kicked up when some young idiot reporter actually reached out to try and pull the hood on her crib down. With a flash he was on his back, Gerard stood snarling down at him while he held his bloody nose.
”Jesus Christ” Jade shouted, pulling on Gerard’s arm, “Come on”. Running toward the car she threw the door open, and took the basket gently from him. Flashed were setting off everywhere as they young man shouted about assault.
Gerard spun round and advanced on him, “Go ahead, you get the amount I’ll owe you in court then ill pay you double and hit you again you prick, don’t ever touch my daughter”
Jade dropped her head in her hands this had to stop. Gerard climbed in the car beside her and slammed the door shut. The car was silent, until the driver started the engine. Gerard stared out the window. Maggie sat on her mother’s knee staring at her parents, sensing the mood she was as silent as them.
”Was there any need for that?” Jade finally asked. “Was it worth it? Do you feel like a big man now?”
”No. I thought he was trying to take my baby” Gerard spoke, his voice breaking, “Oh fuck, what am I going to do now? I’ll be sued that’s for sure. All over the papers again. Christ, Doug is going to kill me”
Jade crept over the car seat and leant against his arm, “Do you really think I want to see more violence? Do you think I want my daughter growing up with violence?”
”Jade I’m defending her and myself ok? I’m not taking my belt to her because she wont do as I say” he snarled, shrugging her off his arm. “Fucking hell”
”Gerard stop swearing. What’s the use?” Jade shouted.
Maggie had been watching intently, as her mother raised her voice, and her father raised his back the child suddenly bellowed out a howl. It wasn’t a hungry one, or a happy one. Its sound was deep and sad, her eyes closed tight as tears slowly dripped down her small face. Gerard and Jade stopped arguing at once and stared at her, Jade hugged her tightly, and turned from Gerard. Staring out of the window, Jade let a tear fall from her own eyes as she kissed her daughters head, Gerard didn’t say a thing he just stared ahead as the traffic went past.

Margaret ran out to meet them with a smile on her face, but sensed something bad had happened immediately. As the car pulled up, Gerard climbed out and slammed the door violently behind him, not even looking at his mother he walked back down the drive and out of sight. The chauffeur was wide eyed as he opened the door for Jade and Maggie. Maggie was crying hysterically and staring after her father. Jade thanked the driver and let another tear escape from her eyes. Margaret ran over.
”What in gods name has happened?” Taking Maggie in her arms she kissed and hugged the child, “There there, love calm down”
”I don’t know” Jade sobbed as the car dropped off the bags and drove off, “The airport, there was people everywhere. Maggie they wanted Maggie.”
”Hush come on inside, tell me everything”
”I cant” Jade cried, “I have to find him. Someone reached for Maggie and he punched them, god he is furious, and then I shouted at him”
Margaret stared at the baby in her arms, the sad look in the Childs eyes mirrored everything that had happened. “Ok ok, go find him. I’ll keep her don’t worry.”
Jade sniffed and thanked her, kissing Maggie goodbye she ran after her husband. Maggie watched her mother run off and smiled at her grand mother. Leaning against her shoulder, she lay quietly, waiting for her parents to come back.

Gerard walked along, kicking anything in his past. Anger coursed through him, al he had done was protect her and now Jade was giving him a hard time. Stopping at the beach he grabbed some stones and launched them as hard as he could into the cold waters. Dropping to the floor he sat and watched the seagulls circle the skies for a while. Hs mobile went off several times, it was Doug everything, but he couldn’t deal with all this right now.
Maggie and Jade were running through his mind, Jade running around laughed, Maggie rolling in circles on the floor. Jade making love to him, Maggie throwing spoons at him. AS that guy grabbed the basket, he saw all that flash through his head, and then just him alone. No Jade, no Maggie. Fear shot through him and he had lashed out, he didn’t regret it though. Nobody touched his daughter. Nobody.
He knew she was there, the wind carried her scent, so it didn’t surprise him when Jade sat beside him. They sat in silence for a few minutes, both staring forward at the waves, until Gerard leaned over and rested his head on her shoulder. Jade stared ahead, but moved backwards to hug him tightly to her.
”I’m sorry” he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. “I’m so sorry Jade”
”What for? You were right, he shouldn’t have tried to touch our daughter.”
”But you don’t need violence in your life. You’ve had enough”
”Well, Maggie may have to see violence, but for the grace of god she won’t ever have to be a victim of it. Not while I am standing anyway”
Gerard sighed and held his head in his hands once more, “What am I going to do?”
”Stop being a moody bitch?” Jade offered, smiling at his shocked expression. “Come home, hold your abandoned daughter, have dinner, tell me you love me. Talk to your mother. Everything we always do. This is just another stepping stone, plus no one will try and touch her again” Jade laughed, wiping away a tear.
Gerard stood to his feet and pulled her into a hug, “I love you so much”
”Come on stroppy bum, if you want to storm out again later you can”
Gerard shook his head and held her hand, walking back toward the house.
”How is Mags?”
”Neglected. I left her in a bush just up here”
Gerard laughed, poking Jade in the side and walked quietly up to his mothers house.

Margaret didn’t say a word as Gerard entered holding Jade by the hand; he kissed her cheek, which told her she didn’t need to say a word. Maggie started bouncing around lifting her hands up to her father, and gripped his clothes when he lifted her in the air.
Gerard sat beside Jade on the sofa and threw another arm around her. Jade leaned in and stroked her child’s hair. Margaret jumped up to get a camera, “Quick. You look adorable” she laughed clicking away at them.
An hour or so later, Jade and Margaret went for a walk, and Jade filled her in on what had actually happened at the airport. Gerard was sat in the house, staring at Maggie.
”You stink” he told her, laughing at her face, she was covered in chocolate sauce. Her clothes were once pink, but now had cake crumbs and chocolate all down them.
”Well I guess I should clean you before you mother gets in, stop spitting out the chocolate. Bad Maggie”
Maggie laughed as he lifted her high in the air, and brought her down fast. “Bath” he shouted, walking with her under one arm to the bathroom. Running a deep bath, he threw off his clothes, and Maggie’s an sat her on his lap.
”Now don’t kick” he warned, “Sit still I cant wash your hair if you are jumping. Bag Maggie”
Maggie screamed with delight and stuffed the sponge in her mouth. Gerard lifted her up so she could stand, and held her upright as she jumped about madly, splashing him and her.
When jade returned to a silent house, she peaked in the bathroom and smiled. Gerard was lying full and sprawled in the bath, completely submerged. Maggie was on his chest half submerged in the warm water; she had fallen asleep and was snoring softly.
”Is that water still warm?” Jade whispered, fussing like she usually did.
”Yes” Gerard shot back, “I do know how to look after her. We didn’t get in that long ago. You can take her though, I need to itch my nose” he smiled, he was clasping her little body to his chest, “I’m scared of her slipping down, so I haven’t been able to move” he giggled, “I have had cramp and everything, awful.”
Jade lifted Maggie from him, she opened her eyes just as Gerard let go of her, and giggled as she rose higher than her father. Turning around she grinned at her mother and clasped her hands in Jades hair as she was cuddled. Gerard smiled at the two of them as Jade went to dry her. Jade walked back in minutes later and smiled at him, dropping her clothes quickly, she stepped in to the bath with him and lay on top of him.
”Where’s Maggie” Gerard asked, groaning as Jade kissed and bit his neck.
”Your mother stole her, I’m not complaining.”
Even from here they could her the two Margaret’s laughing with each other a few rooms away. Jade moved down his body and kissed him all over. Pressing herself against him, she heard the front door slam and smiled. “And that was your mother taking Maggie to show off to the locals. Come on” she laughed, pulling Gerard out of his bath.
”But I’m not exfoliated” he whined, walking with her to the bed room. They stood at the foot of it and kissed each other, falling backwards on the bed.
”God I need you” Gerard rasped, kissing her while grinding against her.
”Take me” Jade panted, “God your sexy. I love how protective you are of me and Mags”
”I would kill anyone who tried to hurt you” he growled, pushing her harder on the bed, while kissing all over her.
”I know” she groaned, “It’s a turn on, let me tell you”
Jade cried out in pleasure as he entered her, grabbing her waist, he lifted her up so her head was beside his, kissing her neck, he leant her against the wall and let her grind him continuously. Moving together they kissed and licked until they were spent. Collapsing into bed they kept tight hold of each other and fell asleep.
