"Kelly?" Carrie questioned, glancing over at the shorter girl who had become considerably quiet over the past couple minutes. "Are you ok?"
"Yea," Kelly replied softly, turning the heater in the car on.
"Are you feeling ok?" Carrie asked. "You're pale."
"I'm fine."
"I'm sure your mom has some medicine you can take when we get home that'll make you feel better," Carrie touched her arm.
"Care, stop the car," Kelly said quickly. "Pull over."
"What?" Carrie looked at her, but quickly did as she was told when she saw Kelly holding her hand over her mouth.
Kelly opened the door, jumping out of the car as fast as she could.
Carrie quickly undid her seatbelt, getting out of the car at the sound of Kelly getting sick. She hurried around to the other side, rubbing the Texan's back, soothingly. "Baby, are you ok?"
Kelly straightened up shakily.
Carrie reached back in the car, pulling out a bottle of water and handing it to her, watching as she sipped it slowly, "When did you start to not feel well?"
Kelly shook her head, her stomach still turning.
"You should've told me," Carrie reached out, tucking a stray curl behind her ear.
"I just wanna go home," Kelly said softly.
"Yea, of course," Carrie nodded. "Do you...are you ok?"
Kelly nodded, allowing Carrie to help her back into the car.
"Just tell me if you need me to pull over again, ok?"
"Ok," she took another sip of water, trying to get rid of the sour taste in her mouth.
Carrie closed the door, making her way back over to her side of the car, putting it back in drive.

"Are you feeling better?" Carrie slid into the bed, right behind Kelly, wrapping an arm around her.
Kelly nodded softly.
"The stomach medicine helped?"
"Yea," she whispered.
"I'm sorry you don't feel good," Carrie wrapped her arm tighter around her, nuzzling her cheek softly with her nose.
Kelly stiffened in her arms.
"Are you cold?" Carrie held her close.
"A little..."
"Baby, you're shivering. Are you running a fever?" she pressed her cheek to the shorter girl's.
"I don't think so," Kelly replied softly.
"Why don't you try to sleep?" Carrie kissed her temple. "I'm sure you'll feel better in the morning."
Kelly nodded in agreement, finding herself relaxing a little as Carrie pulled the blankets up around them. She turned over to her other side, burying her face in the taller girl's neck.
Carrie's eyebrows furrowed in worry as she rubbed her back soothingly.

"Baby..." Carrie mumbled as she tightened her grip around a pillow. She groaned, rubbing her eyes tiredly as she looked back at the digital clock. She turned onto her other side, watching Kelly who sat at her desk, writing. "Baby, it's four in the morning on a Saturday," Carrie pointed out. "Why are you doing homework?"
"I just gotta get this done," Kelly replied.
Carrie untangled herself from the sheets, getting out of bed at the odd, disjointed tone in her voice. "What are you doing?" she asked gently.
"Writing."
"Are you feeling any better?" she bent down, kissing her neck lightly.
Kelly leaned away from her.
"Kell..."
"Just let me finish this real quick," she plastered on a smile as she looked up at her. "I'll come back to bed after, ok?"
"Ok," she nodded, kissing the top of her head before walking back to the bed. She slid back under the covers, watching the short Texan carefully.
"Care..." Kelly gave a soft laugh. "I'm fine. Go back to sleep."
Carrie sighed, turning over to her other side.

Carrie yawned as she walked down the short hall, following her nose to the kitchen. She found Kelly standing in front of the stove, making pancakes.
"My mom went shopping yesterday," Kelly smiled.
Carrie returned it, walking to her, "Smells good."
"Yea, it's kinda hard to screw up pancakes," she laughed softly.
"You didn't come back to bed last night," Carrie pointed out.
"Yes, I did," Kelly nodded.
"I didn't feel you."
"You were all curled up...I didn't want to wake you by trying to get close to you," she shrugged.
"What were you writing last night?"
"Just thoughts."
"A song?"
"More like a few ideas, I guess...it was all over the place."
Carrie nodded, "Ok...I'm gonna go take a quick shower, ok?"
"Ok."
Carrie leaned to her, kissing her softly.
Kelly pulled back quickly, flashing another smile, "The, um, the pancakes will be ready soon, so don't take too long, ok?"
"Yea," Carrie eyed her carefully. "Ok."

"So..." Carrie walked up behind Kelly in her room, wrapping her arms around her. "Your mom just left."
"It's just us?" Kelly questioned.
"Yep," Carrie rested her chin on her shoulder. "So you want to tell me why you've been acting weird all morning."
Kelly turned in her arms to face her, "You mean to tell me that we have the house to ourselves, and all you want to do is talk?"
Carrie chuckled, "You have a point."
Kelly smiled as Carrie leaned to her, kissing her sweetly. She wrapped her arms around her, pulling her closer, searching for the comfort that being in her arms always seemed to bring as she kissed her back.
Carrie deepened the kiss at the feeling of Kelly pressing against her. She placed a hand on the small of the Texan's back, holding her close as she walked her to the bed.
Kelly opened her mouth wider at the feeling of Carrie's tongue brushing against her bottom lip. She held onto her tightly as Carrie laid her back on the bed, moaning softly at the feeling of Carrie's body on top of hers.
Carrie slid a hand over Kelly's hip, smoothing over her thigh. She felt one of Kelly's hands ball up into a fist on her back, and she moved her other hand under the back of the shorter girl's shirt, tracing over the soft skin. Their tongues pressed together as her hand slowly moved to her inner thigh. Carrie quickly broke the kiss at the soft cry that escaped from Kelly's lips. "Baby?" she asked worriedly as she pulled back to look at her face.
Kelly kept her eyes shut tightly as the tears started to fall down her cheeks.
"Kelly," Carrie got her to release the grip she had on the back of her shirt so she could stand up, backing away. "Baby...I didn't...I'm sorry..." she watched Kelly's chest rising and falling quickly as she continued to lay on the bed. She cautiously walked back to her, "Kell?"
Kelly took in a slow, deep breath, trying to control the tears.
"Baby, I'm sorry if I took it too far," Carrie slowly sat down on the bed beside her. "I didn't mean to push you. I just..."
Kelly opened her eyes, biting down hard on her bottom lip.
"Kell?" Carrie questioned, watching as she stared up at the ceiling. "Say something?"
"I'm sorry," she replied shakily.
"No, no, no," Carrie reached out, brushing her tears off her cheeks. "I'm sorry. I just...I thought...I mean, we've gone further...I'm sorry."
"I'm not ready," Kelly shook her head.
"You're not?" Carrie tried to hide the emotion in her voice.
Kelly looked at her, her eyes almost nervous.
"Hey, if you're not ready, then that's perfectly ok," Carrie assured, tucking a curl behind her ear. "Maybe we were rushing things. We can take a couple steps back if you need, ok?"
"Ok," she nodded.
"I am so sorry for trying to push you," Carrie leaned down, kissing her forehead.
"It's ok," Kelly lightly touched her cheek. "You didn't...you didn't know."
"I love you."
"I love you too," Kelly's fingers brushed over her lips.
"Can I hold you?"
Kelly's eyes turned curious.
Carrie blushed slightly, "I just really want to hold you right now."
Kelly smiled shyly, nodding.
Carrie laid down on her back, pulling Kelly to her, wrapping her arms around her tightly.
Kelly snuggled into her, feeling her body start to relax.
"Hey, what time do workers usually start arriving at the bar?"
"Not until the afternoon...why?"
"I couldn't find my cell phone earlier. I think I may have left it there last night. Is it ok if we go pick it up later?"
"Um, yea...sure..." Kelly nodded, wrapping an arm around her stomach.
"Ok, good," Carrie kissed the top of her head. "My mom would kill me if I lost that phone."

Kelly knocked on the front door of the bar for the fifth time, "Come on..."
Carrie walked up behind her, placing a hand on her back.
Kelly quickly jumped out of reach.
"Whoa..." Carrie held her hands up in innocence. "It's just me."
"Damn it, Care," Kelly frowned, her heart racing. "It's not cool to sneak up on people like that."
"Sorry," she eyed her carefully. "So, what's the problem?"
"They keep the front door locked until it's time to open," Kelly explained. "And there are lights on, and I see people moving around in the back, but nobody's coming answer the door."
"Isn't there a backdoor?"
"Yea."
"Why don't you just try that one?"
"I didn't feel like walking all the way back there."
"Come on, I'll walk with you," Carrie offered her hand.
Kelly took it, holding it tightly as she allowed the taller girl to guide her around the building. She felt her stomach turning, but she kept her eyes focused on Carrie who was walking slightly in front of her, letting out the breath she had been holding as they turned the corner of the building.
"Here we go," Carrie smiled as they reached the door.
Kelly knocked a few times before it was opened by one of the waitresses that would be working that night.
"Hey KC," she smiled.
"Hey," Kelly smiled back as they walked inside the building. "My friend left her phone here last night."
"The little pink one?" the waitress questioned.
"Yea," Carrie nodded.
"It's right on the bar."
"Ok, thanks," she watched the girl walk away before turning to Kelly, "I'm just gonna go grab it real quick, ok?"
"Sure," Kelly replied.
Carrie gave her hand a squeeze before walking to the front of the comedy bar. She smiled, noticing her phone resting at the end of the bar where she always sat.
"Hey."
She looked up to find the bartender from the previous night restocking the drinks, "Hey."
"You're Kelly's friend, right?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded.
"How is she doing?" Mike asked curiously. "Is she feeling ok?"
"Yea, she's doing better...how did you know?"
"She didn't tell you? I was the one that pulled Frank off of her," he smiled.
"Wait...what are you talking about?"
"Last night..." he reminded. "When Frank attacked her, I was the one that pulled him off."
"Attacked her?" Carrie's stomach tightened. "She, uh...she threw up last night...I just assumed she was sick."
Mike shook his head, "Shock."
"Did you call the police?"
"She told me not to."
"And you listened?" her voice rose several pitches.
"Hey, I was just trying to help," he defended.
"I know, I'm sorry, I just..." she brought a shaky hand to her mouth. "Oh my God..."
"Are you ok?" Mike asked worriedly.
"Yea, look, thank you so much for being there last night. Seriously, you have no idea how thankful I am for that, but I've got to...I need to...she's..."
"Yea, no, of course, go ahead," Mike nodded, watching as Carrie grabbed her phone and hurried to the back.
"Got it?" Kelly's eyes raised to her from the floor.
"Yea," Carrie took her hand again, holding it securely. "Come on, let's get back home."
Kelly nodded, following Carrie outside and allowing her to guide her once more around the building. She smiled softly as Carrie held the car door open for her before hurrying around to the other side, and getting in. She took Kelly's hand once more as soon as she had put the car in drive, bringing it to her lips, "I love you."
"I love you too," Kelly replied, squeezing her hand.

Carrie sat in the corner of the sofa, reaching out for Kelly.
Kelly took her hands, allowing her to pull her onto her lap, "What do you want to watch?"
"Whatever you want," Carrie wrapped her arms around her.
"It's not like we have a bunch of choices," she reminded with a short laugh.
Carrie kissed her temple, wrapping her arms tighter around her as Kelly rested her head on her shoulder.
"You know how you always say how you love my hugs?" Kelly asked softly as she flipped through the three channels.
"Yea," she rested her cheek against her forehead.
"Well, I love the way I feel in your arms."
"Like how?"
"Like, I don't know...happy and content...safe..."
Carrie felt her eyes stinging.
"Like, you ever hear Mary and Lyndsey talk about how they want some big muscular guy?"
"Yea."
"They said it's because they want a real man that can throw them around," she giggled lightly.
Carrie smiled at the sound of it.
"And also because they said it would feel really safe to be held by someone like that...by someone that can protect you," Kelly continued. "But I mean, just because you're with some macho guy, that doesn't mean anything."
"No?"
"Care, you're a little twig."
"Thanks..."
"A very hot little twig," Kelly added. "But I have never in my life felt as safe as I do when I'm in your arms."
Carrie sniffed.
"Care?" Kelly sat up straight to look at her. She wiped the tears from her eyes, "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
"No, I just...I'm so sorry."
"For what?"
"For not being able to protect you."
"Care, I just said--"
"I talked to Mike," Carrie admitted, avoiding her gaze.
"Y-you talked to Mike? About...about what?"
"Kelly..."
Kelly tried to stand up, but Carrie held her down.
"No, you're not pulling away," Carrie said firmly, swallowing more tears as Kelly struggled in her arms. "You are not running from this, do you hear me? I'm not going to let you."
"Care, I don't wanna--"
"I don't care what you want or don't want to do. I don't care if you don't want to talk about it. I don't care if you don't want to deal with it...you're going to because I can't stand watching you be like this, trying to pretend like nothing's wrong, and I can't stand the scared look in your eyes you had every time I surprised you today or touched you without warning. Do you understand how much that hurts me? It rips my heart out, especially now that I know why...now that I know that you really are afraid."
"I'm not afraid of you," Kelly said softly as the tears started to fall from her eyes.
"But you are," Carrie cradled her face. "And I'm not going to let you run from this because I am not losing you over this. Do you hear me? I mean it, Kelly. I am not going to lose you."
Kelly started to shake as more tears formed.
"I mean it," Carrie felt her own eyes starting to water again. "I'm not gonna lose you. You will not shut down on me, ok? I won't let you."
Kelly felt herself breaking down as she crumpled into the taller girl.
"I'm not gonna lose you," Carrie swore as she wrapped her arms back around her securely, holding her close as Kelly buried her face in her neck. "It's ok," she hugged her tightly. "It's gonna be ok. I got you. You're gonna be alright."
