"Are you ok?" Carrie asked as she pulled into the school's parking lot.
"Yea," Kelly nodded.
"Are you sure?"
"Care, you act like I'm about to break down crying any second. I'm not fragile, you know. I don't come with a handle with care sticker," she teased.
"I know," Carrie sighed. "I just...promise you're ok? I mean, we can totally ditch if you don't feel like doing this."
"I'm fine," Kelly assured, lacing their fingers together as Carrie took her hand.
Carrie smiled. Kelly still hadn't told her what exactly had happened, but she had gotten to the point where she no longer tensed up every time the taller girl touched her. Saturday night Kelly had slept curled up against her, with an arm draped over her stomach, but Carrie kept her hands to herself, afraid that if she held her the other girl would feel trapped. She had breathed a sigh of relief when she woke up the next morning to find Kelly still snuggled into her side. "How was work yesterday?"
"It was good. Sunday's are never too busy at the theater," Kelly replied as they got out of the car, grabbing their booksacks from the back seat. "How was shopping with your mom?"
"Oh, it was loads of fun," she rolled her eyes.
Kelly giggled.
Carrie's smile grew as Kelly linked their arms together.

"That chemistry test isn't until tomorrow, right?" Kelly asked as Carrie switched books out in her locker between classes.
"Wednesday, actually," Carrie corrected.
"Even better because I work tonight."
"A double?"
"Yea, but I talked to Jebbie yesterday. She'll give me a ride back, so don't worry."
Carrie nodded, looking up to find Mary sneaking up behind Kelly. "You, um, you have an eyelash on your cheek," she stepped towards the short Texan, lowering her voice. "Just a word of warning...Mary's walking up behind you, about to surprise you."
"Thanks," Kelly smiled softly.
Carrie returned the smile, brushing her cheekbone with her thumb, her voice raising, "There you go."
"Watch this," Kelly winked before turning around quickly, making Mary jump.
"Shit," Mary cursed, bringing a hand to her chest, looking at Carrie. "You totally told her."
Carrie shrugged, laughing.
"You suck."
"No, that would be you...behind the basketball bleachers from what I hear," she smirked.
Mary's jaw dropped.
Kelly giggled.
"One time...I did that once...." Mary argued.
"What? Really?" Carrie's eyes widened. "I just made that up."
"Oh...me too..."
"Yea, right," Kelly pushed her playfully. "You big whore."
Mary laughed, "Yea, well...someone in our group needs to be getting a little action, and you know, I'll gladly take one for the team."
Carrie smiled as Kelly stepped to her side. She put a casual arm around her, "So where's your partner in crime?"
"Oh, she's sick," Kelly answered for her. "That's why I'm doing a double. I took her shift tonight."
"Aw, that sucks. What does she have?"
"A virus," Mary made a face. "Anyway, guess what time it is..."
Carrie shrugged.
Kelly grinned, "End of the year concert time!"
"Ugh..." Mary groaned. "Yes."
"End of the year concert?" Carrie questioned.
"For band," Mary explained.
"You're in band? Why did I not know this?"
"It's not something I like to advertise."
"The whole bleachers thing makes sense now. I always heard you band nerds were a kinky group," she teased.
"Yea, yea," Mary laughed. "Anyways, I have to sell so many tickets, and I know y'all won't clown me for it...too much. So, you're game?"
"Yea, of course. It's always fun to see you up there playing your little heart out," Kelly smiled. "It's five dollars right?"
"Fifteen," Mary replied.
"That much?"
"They're doing a dinner thing with it."
"Here you go," Carrie handed her the money. "Two tickets."
"Thanks you guys," Mary smiled, handing her the tickets. "See y'all for lunch."
Carrie waved.
"Care..."
"Yea?"
"You didn't have to do that."
"Do what?"
"Pay for my ticket."
"Who said it's your ticket?" Carrie asked curiously. "My dad gets a kick out of these types of things. I'm sure he'd love to go."
"Oh."
Carrie laughed, watching Kelly blush, "Hey Kell?"
"Yea?"
"I was just wondering if you'd like to go out on a date with me...I mean, I got these two tickets to this concert that is supposed to be completely kick butt, and there's gonna be a candle lit dinner, and I may be exaggerating just a little bit, but if it's lame we can totally bail and do whatever you want. What do you think?"
Kelly smiled, "I think that I would love to go on a date with you."
Carrie ran her fingers along her jaw. "Another eyelash," she explained at Kelly's gaze.
"Care, there was no eyelash in the first place," Kelly pointed out.
"So? I'll take any excuse to touch you as often as possible...is that a crime?"
Kelly shook her head, "Definitely not."
"Cool," Carrie held out her arm, smiling as Kelly took it. "May I walk you to class?"
"Yes, you may," she nodded, allowing Carrie to escort her through the hall.

"So how are things?" Jessica asked as she drove Kelly home after work.
"Things are good," Kelly nodded.
"How are things with Carrie?"
"I, uh...I kinda told her I love her."
"Kinda?" Jessica raised a curious eyebrow.
"Ok, well I told her I love her."
"And do you?"
"Absolutely."
She smiled, "Did she say it back?"
"Yep."
"Does it make you nervous?"
"Nope."
Jessica shook her head.
"What?"
"You are the strangest kid I've ever met, you know that?" she laughed softly.
"Why do you say that?"
"This is the first time you've ever been in love," Jessica pointed out. "Usually that makes people nervous...not to mention the fact that Carrie's a girl, and I mean, I'm no expert, but that usually makes people freak out, but you are just so calm, without a care in the world about it."
Kelly shrugged, "I love her. She loves me...what's there to be nervous about?"
Jessica smiled, patting her knee, "There's absolutely nothing for you to be nervous about. You just keep being like you are, and keep being happy, and enjoy this. Your first love...that only happens once in a lifetime, you know?"
"Shouldn't love itself be once in a lifetime? I mean, look at you and Boo--y'all were high school sweethearts. Now y'all are college sweethearts. Soon y'all will be married sweethearts."
"Hopefully not too soon. I'd rather have an actual job and not be working in a movie theater when I get married."
Kelly giggled, "Y'all are gonna be fine. Y'all are crazy in love with each other."
"You're such a romantic, you know that? Which I find kinda funny considering..."
"Considering?"
"Your family and stuff."
"Yea," Kelly nodded. "I don't know. I think I've dealt with that a bit. I realized that maybe my mom and him just weren't meant to be together, maybe Jimmy is the one she's supposed to spend her life with."
"So you think your mom was wrong in marrying your father?" Jessica pulled up in front of the apartment complex, parking the car.
"If I say that, then I'm saying that I think I never should've been born. And while I am a firm believer in only being married once...everything does happen for a reason, you know? I mean, I know it's completely self-centered of me, but maybe my mom was supposed to marry my father so I could be born, and so I could go through all of the things I went through with the divorce and everything so I can share that with others...through my voice. You know...let them know they're not alone in it..."
Jessica looked at her in awe.
"Are you crying?" Kelly giggled.
"Oh, shut up," Jessica pushed her. "What you said it was just really...sweet, and I think a hundred percent true. You've got a gift. I've always said that. And speaking of which, the studio time is two days after you get back from Alaska. Do you think that's too soon? I may be able to push it back a day or two."
"No, no, that's perfect," Kelly nodded. "It's perfect. Thank you so much for setting it up."
"Hey, if this is all a part of God's plan like you said, then helping you along can only keep me on the big man's good side, right?"
"Right," she laughed, hesitating for a moment before leaning over to give her a quick hug. "Thanks for everything, Jebbie."
"Anytime, girl," Jessica patted her back. "Are you working tomorrow?"
"No, which is good because I need to study for a test. I work again Wednesday, though."
"Ok, see you then, and good luck with your test. What is it in?"
"Chemistry. Carrie's gonna come over tomorrow to help me study."
"Sure..." Jessica winked as Kelly got out of the car.
"Bye Jebbie," Kelly rolled her eyes, waving.
