Kelly chewed on her bottom lip as she sat on the floor of her room, across from Carrie, their Chemistry books open in front of them.
"You ok?" Carrie asked, looking up from her book.
"Yea," Kelly nodded. "Having trouble concentrating."
"Why?"
"You, um...your presence can be a little distracting," she admitted.
Carrie smiled softly, "You wanna come sit by me?"
She nodded again as she moved to sit next to the taller girl. She took Carrie's hand that she offered and brought it around her back so that her arm was wrapped around her.
Carrie's smile grew as the Texan leaned into her a little, "Better?"
"Yea," Kelly slid her fingers through Carrie's that were resting on her hip. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course."
"W-why haven't you kissed me since Saturday?" she asked, looking down at the Chemistry book to avoid her gaze.
"Kell..."
"Is it because I said I wasn't ready to have sex yet?"
"No, baby, that's not it," Carrie said gently. "It's just--"
"It's because of what happened, isn't it?" Kelly looked at her nervously. "You don't want to kiss me because he kissed me."
Carrie's chest tightened, "He kissed you?"
Kelly turned back to the book.
Carrie closed her eyes as she leaned to her, kissing her temple.
"I'm sorry," Kelly whispered.
"Please don't apologize," Carrie shook her head. "That's not it at all, I promise. I'm just trying to make you comfortable. I wasn't sure if you were ok with me kissing you, yet. You're still kinda jumpy, so I was just...I was waiting for you to make the first move."
"I didn't want him to kiss me," she sniffed.
"I know," Carrie assured, running a hand through her hair.
"He said I did," Kelly could feel her eyes burning. "He said that I led him on..."
"You didn't," Carrie said firmly. "Baby, you didn't, I promise you. He's just...he's sick ok, and guys like that say stuff like that to make themselves feel better, but it's not true. It was not your fault, Kell."
Kelly shook her head, closing her eyes to keep the tears from falling.
"Talk to me..." Carrie urged softly.
"I keep...I keep thinking about it. I replay it over and over in my mind, thinking if only I had remembered to tip out Mike, or if I had just decided to wait until the next time I worked, or if I had listened to Mike when he said to wait for him--"
"Kell, it's not your fault," Carrie insisted.
"It is my fault; I shouldn't have been walking alone."
"You shouldn't have to worry about walking alone. There shouldn't be people out there like him that think they can do stuff like that. It's his fault, not yours."
Kelly took a shaky breath, "I can still feel it...his hands. I can still feel his hands on me. I've taken so many showers, and I can still feel his hands on me."
Carrie swallowed the lump that was rising in her throat, "Can I ask...can I ask where?"
Kelly's eyes started to water again.
"It's ok," Carrie wiped the tears from her cheeks. "You don't have to answer."
"He had my arm," Kelly said shakily, her eyes glued to the book on the floor. "He held it against the wall. He held me there."
Carrie wanted so badly to tell her to stop, that she didn't have to go on because she wasn't sure if she could take hearing it, but she knew that the shorter girl needed to talk about it to someone.
"His other hand was on my hip," she continued, her voice becoming strangely hollow. "He was pressed against me, pinning me. I couldn't move--I tried to, I did, but I couldn't. He put his hand...he moved it to my leg...under my skirt..."
Carrie's stomach turned as she felt her anger rising.
"I'm sorry," Kelly shook her head. "I can't."
"No, no, it's ok," Carrie soothed. "You did great."
Kelly hesitated for a moment before placing her head lightly on Carrie's shoulder.
Carrie softly kissed the top of her head, "I love you."
Kelly wrapped an arm around her stomach as she leaned more into her.
"And however much time you need...how ever long it takes for us to get back to where we were, and I don't mean physically, I don't care about that right now. I mean emotionally because all I care about is you being ok. However long it takes for you to get back to feeling completely at ease, I will be here for you...with you. I promise."
Kelly choked back a sob, "I love you."
"I know," Carrie whispered, kissing her head again.
"I'm so sorry."
"I'm going to keep saying this until you believe it, I don't care if I have to keep saying it a hundred times a day until the day that I die: this is not your fault."
"I don't deserve you."
"Kell..."
"I don't," she buried her face in her shoulder.
"Kell," Carrie urged. "Baby, look at me...look at me."
Kelly slowly pulled back, looking up at her nervously.
"I love you, and whether you think you deserve me or not isn't going to change that. What happened isn't going to change that. I still love you just as much as I did before, if not more, I promise you, ok?"
Kelly nodded slowly.
"Ok," Carrie nodded in return. "I'm going to kiss you now, ok?"
Kelly's eyes moved to her lips.
Carrie smiled softly as she leaned in, pressing their lips together in a chaste kiss
Kelly returned the smile as Carrie pulled back.
"That was ok?" Carrie questioned carefully.
"That was perfect," Kelly admitted. "I really love you, Care."
"Yea?" Carrie smiled, touching her cheek softly. "You too."
Kelly turned her cheek into her touch.
"You're gonna make it through this," Carrie nodded, kissing her forehead. "You're so strong, even if you may not feel that way right now, you are...I know you are, and I will be by your side the entire time, I promise you...we're gonna be just fine."
Kelly wrapped her other arm around her, hugging her tightly.

Kelly smiled as she walked out of her class to find Carrie waiting for her, "You know, I remember a time when I was the one walking you to your classes."
"Just returning the favor," Carrie shrugged, offering her arm.
Kelly took it, letting Carrie guide her through the halls.
"How was class?"
"It was boring as hell."
Carrie laughed, "Well, look on the bright side. All you have left is lunch and choir."
"Thank God. Are you gonna come hang out before I have to go to work this afternoon?"
"Duh. Why?"
"I was digging through the kitchen at like midnight last night because I couldn't sleep and I was starving, and I realized that we had all the ingredients to make homemade cookies. I figured it was probably best if I didn't make them last night because my mom would've killed me for waking her, so I thought we could make them this afternoon...together."
Carrie smiled as they walked into the cafeteria. "I think that'd be a lot of fun."
"Yea?"
"Yea."
"Cool," she grinned.
"So you couldn't sleep last night?" Carrie handed her a tray.
"I'm ok," Kelly assured, giving her arm a little squeeze before retracting her hand as they made their way through the lunch line before walking over to their usual table where Mary and Lyndsey were already seated.
"So how was the test?" Mary asked as they sat down.
"I failed," Kelly nodded surely.
"I thought y'all were gonna study yesterday?"
"My fault," Carrie replied. "I convinced her that we should listen to some music instead."
"And we all know that once you get her started, she won't turn that poor tape player off for days," Mary teased. "I don't know how that thing still works."
Kelly rolled her eyes, pushing her tray towards her, allowing her to scoop her macaroni onto her own tray.
"So am I the only one wondering why we're having spaghetti and macaroni on the same day?" Carrie questioned. "Aren't these meals supposed to be somewhat balanced?"
"It's getting towards the end of the year," Lyndsey explained. "They're just trying to use up all the food now."
"They pretty much see us as garbage disposals," Mary nodded.
Carrie laughed, turning to Kelly who was watching something with a curious expression on her face. She followed her gaze to the cafeteria door where Ashley was walking in with a couple other girls she recognized from different classes she was in.
Lyndsey made a hissing noise.
"Cat fight," Mary teased.
Kelly shook her head, laughing as she turned back to her food.
"So y'all still aren't talking?" Lyndsey asked curiously.
"Nope."
"Plan on talking any time soon?"
"Nope."
Carrie bumped her shoulder lightly, offering a soft smile when Kelly looked at her.
Kelly returned it, giving her knee a squeeze under the table.
"Is it ok that I invited her to the end of the year concert?" Mary asked.
"Yea, of course," Kelly nodded, turning back to her. "I mean, I don't want y'all to stop hanging out or anything because of this."
"Good, because it'd be rude to ask for the tickets back."
Kelly laughed, "You do know that y'all don't have to always hang out with me for lunch and stuff, right? Y'all can go sit with her too. I won't be mad."
"Yea, but you know the minute we leave you and Carrie alone, the wolves are gonna descend," Lyndsey replied.
"Huh?"
She pointed to where Stacey was sitting with her group of friends.
"Actually, I think she's totally over us by now."
"Why do you say that?"
"I told her off pretty good a while back and she hasn't tried talking to me since," she shrugged.
"Well, apparently you didn't tell her off enough," Mary noted as Stacey looked their way.
Carrie waved, wiggling her fingers sarcastically.
Stacey turned back to her friends agitatedly, muttering something.
"Nice," Lyndsey laughed. "Someone's been hanging around Kelly a lot..."
Carrie blushed softly, "Stacey just needs to get her own life and stop worrying about controlling everyone else's."
"I'll toast to that," Mary raised her milk carton.
"Something tells me Stacey and your mom would get along real well," Kelly commented.
Carrie laughed, "I have no doubt that they would be best friends."
"So yea, because of the crazy bitch and her hoe posse, we've elected to hang out with you," Lyndsey continued their previous conversation. "Strength in numbers and all that."
"Thanks guys," Kelly nodded. "I just don't want y'all picking sides or anything, you know?"
"No worries. We actually hung out with Ashley Friday night."
"Yea?"
"Yea, she called to see if we wanted to go watch a movie or something, and you were working so we said yea."
"And if I wasn't working?"
"We would've seen if you wanted to do something first," she replied simply.
Kelly frowned.
"We're not picking sides," Mary replied. "It's just...we don't know the whole story, but we do know what we saw, and Ashley completely turned on you and was a total bitch to Carrie, so while we're trying to stay out of it, we do think that she's in the wrong."
"I guess that's fair," Kelly nodded.
"Of course it is. Now are you eating that cookie?"
"It's hard as a rock," she made a face.
Mary rolled her eyes, taking the cookie from her and dunking it in her drink, "That's what God invented milk for."

"Flour," Carrie read off the recipe.
"Flour," Kelly nodded, scrambling up to the counter top so she could reach the top cabinets, pulling down a small bag of flour.
"Sugar."
"Sugar," she pulled down the sugar.
"Salt?"
"Salt."
"You put salt in your cookies?"
"Just a pinch," she nodded.
"Weird."
"Don't judge till you try them."
"Alright," Carrie held her hands up in surrender. "Vanilla."
"Vanilla," Kelly pulled down the vanilla.
"And chocolate chips."
"Chocolate chips," Kelly grabbed the bag. "I think that's all we need from up here."
Carrie held out her arms.
Kelly smiled, allowing her to help her down.
"So what first?"
"Turn the oven on to 350. It takes a while to heat up."
"Ok..." Carrie turned to the stove, adjusting the temperature knob. "Done. Now what?"
"Now, you measure out all the ingredients."
"Does it matter what order you put them in?"
"Have you never baked with your mother?"
"She doesn't like me in her kitchen."
"You'd think if she was trying to make you girlier, she'd have you in there every day with her."
"I messed up her favorite recipe once when I was eight," Carrie shrugged. "Haven't been allowed to help since."
Kelly laughed, "Well, you are always welcome in my kitchen."
"Aw thanks," Carrie kissed her forehead softly.
"And no, it doesn't matter what order you put them in. Some people like to mix the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients separate, and then add them together, but that's just more bowls you have to clean up after."
"True," Carrie nodded as Kelly handed her a measuring cup. "How much?"
"The whole thing," Kelly replied, grabbing a couple eggs from the fridge. She winced as Carrie quickly dumped the entire bag of flower into the bowl, causing the white powder to fly up into the air.
Carrie coughed, smiling at the feeling of Kelly's hands on her face, her thumbs wiping the flour from her eyes.
"I meant the whole cup," Kelly explained gently.
Carrie smiled sheepishly.
Kelly laughed, reaching up and tracing a heart in the flour on one of her cheeks before tracing the letter 'k' on the other.
"So you're branding me now?" Carrie raised an eyebrow.
"Yep," Kelly nodded, wrapping her arms around her. "You're all mine."
Carrie leaned to her, hesitating for a moment.
"It's ok," Kelly assured softly, closing the distance between them as she kissed her.
"I love you," Carrie whispered.
"I love you too," Kelly replied, brushing their noses together, making her giggle.
Carrie dipped her finger in the bowl of flour, using it to trace a heart around Kelly's face.
"You realize you're totally just wasting flour now--my mom's gonna kill me."
"I'll protect you," Carrie swore, wrapping her arms around her neck.
"I'd rather you just kiss me again."
"Yea?"
She nodded, "I miss it--kissing you."
"Kell, I just..."
"I know," she nodded again. "But it's ok, I promise."
"You have no idea how good it is to hear you say that," Carrie admitted, stepping to her. "You just...you're really cute, and it's hard to not be kissing you every chance I get."
Kelly smiled as Carrie stroked her cheek, "Well, you have a chance right now."
"I'm nervous," she confessed.
"Of what?"
"Pushing you too fast."
"Care, I said it was ok to kiss me...I want you to."
"I know, it's just...sometimes it's really hard to just kiss you..."
"Care, I know you," Kelly's thumb soothed along the taller girl's jaw. "You're not gonna push me."
"Just promise that if I--"
"Baby, relax..."
Carrie smiled.
"Yes, I just stole your nickname," Kelly laughed softly.
"You know, it's not nice to steal things."
"No?"
Carrie shook her head.
"Well, what are you gonna do about it?"
"I'm gonna kiss you," Carrie nodded surely.
"Well, it's about damn time," Kelly smiled as Carrie tilted her head towards her, brushing their lips together lightly before kissing her fully.
Carrie cradled Kelly's face gently, keeping her hands there as the Texan wrapped her arms around her waist, hugging her tightly as she kissed her back.
