Tallie took yet another glance up and down the street. It wasn’t like Tink to do a disappearing act at this time of day.
“Fine then, be like that... stupid damn cat!” She muttered under her breath, realising how ridiculous she looked standing out on the street holding a neon pink plastic bowl full of cat food. Especially whilst wearing this damned dress. It wasn’t as if she had made an effort, or that was at least the impression she was trying to give. The black hell bunny dress just happened to be the first thing she had grabbed from the pile of laundry that was once her wardrobe. Taking another look down at herself she pulled the skirt down as far as possible, not that it had been exceptionally short but there was no way she wanted to look like she was trying too hard.
Late, typical!, she thought taking yet another glance at her watch. That would be the third in at least the last two minutes.
“Are you looking for this by any chance?”
Tallie swirled around on her heels at the sound of Billie’s voice behind her. He was sitting on the wall, awkwardly holding a very annoyed looking cat.
“How long have you been there?” Tallie snapped, feeling annoyed that he might have seen how many times she had checked the time whilst parading up and down outside her front door.
“Long enough, but Stink here only turned up a minute ago.”
“It’s Tink! and anyway, how did you know it was him?” She complained, grabbing the cat and holding him close.
Billie jumped down from the wall and picked a few cat hairs from his shirt.
“Easy really, I could smell your perfume as soon as I picked him up...that and the girly pink name tag on his collar with his name on it....”
His first statement threw tallie off from shouting back at him about getting the name wrong again
straight away, it stunned her a little. He recognised her perfume,
“You truly are a freak. So exactly how often do you go around sniffing random cats?”
“I didn’t need to sniff him...you put on so much of that stuff that guys in the next state can smell it!” He laughed, scratching Tink’s head.
“Fine, I’ll remember that next time then.” Tallie huffed, stomping back up the stairs, mentally kicking herself for thinking he was paying her a compliment in some way.
“Tallie, it was a joke...”
“I know. I’m just putting him back indoors, I won’t be a minute.”
Billie watched her leave, almost waiting for the bitchy remark or the sarcastic comment but none came. At least until she returned two minutes later, slamming the door behind her.
“Ok, I’m ready..and by the way, it’s Tink. Not Stink.”
“I know that, I just like getting you all angry.” He smiled, putting his arm reassuringly around her shoulder
“Oh really, I would never have guessed.” Tallie pulled away, scowling.
“I’ll stop, I promise.”
There was a moment of silence, Tallie stared blankly at her shoes, wondering why she had even agreed to be here.
“So, why is he called Tink?”
“What?” she spat back, snapping out of deep thought.
“Cat boy..why Tink?”
“It’s short for Tinkerbelle.” She looked up to see his reaction. He just looked surprised, but he simply raised his eyebrows and didn’t say any more.
“So where are we going?”
“Tre’s waiting round the corner, he got short straw to be driver for the night.”
“You didn’t think to get him to stop out the front then?”
“And let you watch from your window for twenty minutes and take your time, no way. I thought it was better to make you think I was late.”
Tallie was speechless for a moment, and by now totally unsure of whether she should be getting in the car or turning around and going home.
“Billie!”
Tallie looked across the street to see a bmw parked in a layby with an arm waving frantically out of the window. As she got nearer she saw that the arm belonged to a guy she vaguely recognised from back at the hangar.
“Half an hour....” Tre groaned half hanging out of the window. “Will you get in the car already, we’re wasting valuable drinking time here.”
“I was just helping Tallie find her weird cat.” Billie held the door open for Tallie to get in but she stayed where she was, taking alternate looks between the car interior and the street behind her.
“Are you ok? I know getting in a car with Tre is a traumatic experience at the best of times, but you don’t have to look so distressed...” He put a reassuring arm around her. “You know, if you’ve changed your mind I can walk you home.”
“Boring.....” Tre cut in, revving the engine impatiently. “Seeing as Billie’s not gonna bother with introductions...I’m Tre, pleased to meet you, can we now get to the alcohol!” He leaned back to grab Tallie’s hand and wag it up and down hurriedly.
“Er...ok my name’s Tallie..except you probably already know that” at this point she shot a glance at Billie. “And seeing as you guys are in a band, and I’m a girl...well....just don’t get any ideas about me being a groupie or anything because I’m not a skank.”
“ Damn it Billie, you said she was up for anything.” Tre started in a disappointed voice. Tallie dropped back and stood even farther away, this was not exactly what she had been expecting.
Billie noticed her look of horror. “He’s joking, and he’s perfectly safe, unless you feed him after midnight....” He stopped to answer his phone which had been buzzing from his pocket twice already in the last few minutes. “It’s Mike, he’s our bass player and right now he’s probably wondering where the hell we are so can you make your mind up in the near future if thats possible....”
Tallie waited until he had walked away to answer the call and leaned down until she was level with Tre’s ear.
“I’m not a groupie, ok. Before today I didn’t even know who you guys were so don’t expect me to start worshipping at your feet and jumping into bed with you.”
“Aw, you’re just too cruel!” Tre grinned, gesturing for her to get i the car. “Billie...I’m going now, and if you don’t get in this goddamn car then I’m gonna have to take your ‘platonic’ friend here and get the hell outta here!”
Tallie felt herself smile for the first time that evening, She watched Billie for a moment, his back to her, talking on the phone and then back to Tre, who was by now looking slightly fed up.
I’m being awkward, she thought, so why are they still here....
“Ok stroppy pants, Mike’s waiting for us..you get in the car or not?”
After a moment she decided to get into the car . Sitting as far against the opposite door as possible she stared out of the window with a face like thunder. Billie let her stew for a few minutes , enjoying the fact that she hadn’t come back with some sort of abusive reply.
“I was wondering...” He started.
“well keep on wondering....I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Why Tinkerbelle? it’s a boy....”
“I didn’t know he was a boy until it became, well, y’know obvious. He was a present from my dad...about the only one I ever got.” She added quietly, hoping that he wouldn’t expect her to divulge anything further on the subject
“You know what Tallie...Billie just can’t stop talking about your pussy tonight!” Tre piped up from the front. “Ow watch it I’m driving...” he added as Tallie leaned over to give him a swift slap around the head.
“Tre, I know we’ve only just met...but don’t push it!” She growled and then looked around to see Billie trying desperately not to laugh.
“And you can stop it right now, just...don’t” She threw her hands in the air in desperation. “ You two are so gross... Where are we going anyway?”
“There!” Tre announced waving at the neon sign they had just driven past. Tallie paled slightly, here, why hadn’t they said before that it was this bar....
“Are you ok? You look a bit...surprised.” Billie asked, sounding concerned.
“Um...yeah, yes I’m fine. I just didn’t expect that we were gonna be coming here. I don’t .... can’t we go somewhere else?”
Billie got the sense that this was maybe a conversation that would either end in Tallie stropping out and demanding to go home or Tre making one of his usual comments and getting a slap.
“Do we get to know why you don’t like this place?”
“It doesn’t matter...” She stated bluntly and went back to straightening her skirt again.

Two hours later Billie found himself sandwiched between two hugely overweight women who, for some reason were wearing clothes at least two times too small for them. Tallie had disappeared to the bar for the last half hour and before that had sat beside him in total silence, which in itself was an unusual thing.
“Having fun?” Mike asked, planting himself at the opposite end of the table.
“Oh yeah..loads...can’t you see?” Billie replied, rolling his eyes.
“Ooh, you’re Mike Dirnt aren’t you?” one of the girls suddenly realised and shifted herself over to where she was almost sitting on Mike’s lap. Billie gave a sly grin at the look on his friend’s face.
“We love Green Day don’t we Sharelle?”, she continued. Her friend nodded enthusiastically and managed somehow to drape herself around Billie even more than before.
“My name’s Rayanne, we came over to keep Billie company cos he was all on his lonesome.” She giggled.
“Aw, poor Billie was all on his own.” Mike laughed.” I don’t know how he coped before you two turned up!”.
“I think I’ll be ok now...don’t you need to go get a drink or something?” Billie asked hopefully.
Rayanne glanced down at her empty glass. “Oh yes, well we won’t be long sexy!” She giggled girlishly and made a big deal of thrusting her cleavage as close to him as possible when she got up. Mike watched them leave before turning back to a very relieved looking Billie.
“Shit, I thought they were never gonna leave. Where the hell have you been?”
“I only went to make a phone call. I thought Misery guts was keeping you company any way.”
“Misery...oh Tallie. She’s done a disappearing act and then I get landed with those two and you know what..I’m rapidly losing the will to live!” Billie sighed, rubbing his side. “I swear they broke my ribs or something...where’s Tre got to?”
Mike shrugged, “How should I know...I’m guessing he’s following some girl around like a lost puppy..or gone home.”
“Great, well there goes our ride home!”
Tallie held her breath for a moment and closed her eyes, the alcohol already hazing her mind and thoughts. She hadn’t a clue how long she had stood here, staring around at the surroundings that had once seemed so familiar. Maybe the colours had changed and the carpets were a little more worn but it was all still there, somewhere in her mind. She shook herself back to reality and glanced at the time, Billie must be wondering where she had got to, that’s if he hadn’t got fed up and left. Swigging back the two vodka and cokes that were beside her she headed back, staring at the floor all the way whilst pushing through small groups of people in her way.
Suddenly a hand grabbed onto her shoulder, pulling her back a few steps.
“Taliana?”
Tallie swung around angrily on her heels to face the person who had stopped her. “What the...”
“Well, well, well, it’s been a while hasn’t it!”
