CHAPTER TEN
Josh pulled into the parking lot of the studio and got out of the car. He made his way inside, not stopping to talk, determined to record and get it over with. He wanted this CD printed and in the stores like yesterday! What his father had said the day before haunted him and he knew that he had been playing lately, distracted by his new found love but Jack was right. He had to get this done, he had to make it good and he was in the mindset at that moment to make it happen. Especially since it meant that the sooner it was over with, the sooner he could be with Karen. He felt a dull ache spread throughout his being at the thought of her. He’d watched the plane take off and it was almost too much to bear. Odd though, he’d never felt this way about January when she would leave or he would leave her behind. It was as though he’d known she would always be there. Maybe he really wasn’t so worried if she was there or not, he reasoned. But with Karen, he sighed as he turned on equipment, she was vulnerable, she was easier to access by men other then himself. He shook his head as he thought about the fact that she hadn’t been swept away by some lucky man. Well, he prayed that he had such an impact on her now that any man that would come her way she would ignore or brush off without a thought. He went into the studio, cracked open a bottle of water and downed half of it in one swig. He then proceeded to warm up his voice with a series of exercises. Jake, one of the engineers Josh had called on his way to the studio snuck in while he was practicing and finished the set up Josh had begun moments earlier. When Josh paused to drink more water Jake made his presence known to Josh. Josh waved and then continued his exercise. He finished and then went to get more water.
“Whenever you’re ready, Josh.” Jake said. Josh waved to him and slipped on a pair of “cans” or headphones as non-musicians called them and let Jake know he was ready. He heard music stream into his ears and began to sing the song. He poured out his heart into it and when it was over Jake gave him a thumbs up. Yeah, Jake thought it was good but it was up to David as to whether or not it got printed. He decided to record it a couple more times to give David something to choose from. When that was finished he moved on to the next song and then went to the piano to lay down some musical tracks before calling it a night around 9:30. Josh and Jake walked out to the lot together.
“Hey, man, I saw your new girlfriend.” Jake said to Josh as they stood out in the parking lot, darkness enveloping them.
“Yeah?” Josh asked, afraid of what would come next and prepared for defense.
“Yeah, she’s really hot.” Josh smiled proudly. “There’s just something about an older woman …” Jake shook his head. “My wife is 8 years older then me and she’s so calm and less demanding than any of the women I ever dated who were younger. I don’t worry about the temper tantrums and the whining either. I know you’ll find that with your girl.” Josh felt his chest swell with confidence.
“You know, that really means a lot to me right now. I’ve had so many people frown on my relationship and it hurts, you know?” Jake nodded.
“I know. My own family criticized me constantly about it.” Josh leaned against his car.
“How long have you been married?” He asked.
“Just over two years now.”
“Excellent. And how does the family feel now?”
“They are fine with it now. It took a while but it’s over and she’s one of us.” Josh stuck out his hand for Jake to shake and then hugged him as well.
“Thanks, man, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.” Jake smiled and climbed into his Explorer.
“Catch you later, man.” He said and drove off. Josh slipped onto the leather seat of the Porsche and sat silent a moment before starting the engine and driving off.
Karen set her suitcase down on her bed and dug through it. She found the packages Josh had gotten for the kids and called them all into the living room. First she gave Ryan his. He gasped in complete shock when he saw the IPOD.
“Woah!” He said. “This is freaking awesome!!” Karen smiled.
“It’s from Josh.” Karen said. “I never could have afforded to buy you that.” Ryan kissed her cheek.
“Make sure you thank him for me, Mom.” He said. Karen nodded then handed Kelly hers. She opened it gingerly and as she saw the necklace, her eyes opened wide and mouth dropped open.
“Oh wow!” She said pulling the necklace from the box and holding it up in front of her face.
“Now, Kelly, those are real diamonds. I don’t think you should wear it to school.” Kelly stared in disbelief at her mother.
“Diamonds?” She whispered. “No way!” Karen nodded.
“Yeah, diamonds. So don’t wear it to school.”
“How about just once?” Kelly clutched the necklace to her chest and danced around the room. Karen laughed.
“Maybe just once but not on a gym day where you’ll have to take it off.” Kelly hugged her mother tightly.
“This totally rocks!!” She gushed and kissed Karen. Karen turned to Carlie. She pulled out a handled bag and handed it to her. Carlie took it and explored the contents.
“Mom! Josh is totally awesome!! When do we get to meet him?” Carlie asked. Karen felt a twinge of loneliness in her chest that flooded throughout her being. As soon as she’d left him at the terminal she missed him immensely.
“Well,” Karen sighed dropping her hands into her lap. “He’s got work to do right now. He’s making a new CD and when that’s done he will either come here or we’ll go there.”
“I want to go there.” Ryan said quickly. “Don’t they have lots of girls in bikini’s skating all around?” Karen burst out in giggles.
“You’re silly Ry!” She said. She hadn’t noticed any girls walking around much less skating around in bikinis but then again there wasn’t much else she’d noticed except Josh.
“I want to go there too, Mom.” Kelly said. “I need to go to a real beach, an ocean beach. I’ll bet you can find some cool shells there.” Karen nodded.
“I’ll see what I can do. But for right now you guys have to get ready for school.” They groaned but made their way towards their bedrooms. Karen tried calling Josh on his cell phone but got his voice mail. She left him a message and went to put away her clothes from her suitcase. She dumped the contents out onto her bed and began to sift through it. She ran across the DVDs he’d slid inside and set them on the nightstand. She tossed her dirty clothes into a pile and then found the shirt of Josh’s she’d slipped on Saturday morning during the argument with January. She held it up to her face and inhaled deeply his scent. It was the spice of his cologne mixed with the sport scent of his deodorant. Her body responded accordingly. She felt her nipples tighten and a tingling that radiated from her belly to her thighs. She felt his arms around her, his hands gently caressing, lingering longer in some places more then others. She could almost feel his mouth on hers, his tongue dancing inside. A moan escaped her as she went back to the last time they made love this very morning. He was so gentle, his movements precise. The wetness between her legs doubled and she flopped down on her bed, shirt still clutched to her chest. He had held her tightly in his arms afterward, lightly stroking her arm until it was time that they had to go.
“Mom.” Karen’s head jerked towards the door where Kelly stood, interrupting her reverie.
“What, Kel?” Karen said, standing up and setting the shirt down on her pillow. She would cuddle with that later.
“Dad didn’t make us do our homework and I didn’t do mine.” Karen sighed and planted a hand on her hip.
“Kelly Marie! You’d dad shouldn’t have had to make you do your homework, you should have done it on your own! What the hell did you do all weekend?” Karen continued to sift through the clothes on the bed.
“We went to the movies … twice, and to King’s Island on Saturday.”
“Jesus, Kelly, did you even go to school on Friday?” Kelly laughed.
“Yesssss … then we went out and had pizza and went to the movies. We didn’t get to bed until real late!”
“Well get in your room and get that homework done, now!” Kelly turned and stalked off to her room and Karen was once again left alone with her memories. She put her dirty clothes in the hamper and took a shower. She signed onto the Internet and then tried calling Josh again. He still had his phone turned off. She tried to distract herself with the Internet, checking email and looking at websites but it didn’t work. She found herself at Josh’s website, perusing the music section, watching videos of him. It wasn’t satisfactory, it made her miss him much more. She looked at the professional photographic pictures of him and decided they didn’t come close to doing him justice. He was way more handsome then they portrayed. It could have been his personality. He was such a kind and gentle person. Her heart suddenly ached with emptiness. Earlier today if she wanted she could wrap her arms around him and kiss his delicious lips. Now, she touched her lips without thinking, they felt cold and dismal. She groaned.
“Where are you, Josh?” She muttered and as if on cue the phone rang. She swept it up and answered it.
“Hi baby.” He said. A smile spread across her face and she giggled. “What’s so funny?” He asked, suspicious.
“Nothing, I’m just so happy to hear from you.” He sighed.
“I know, I got your messages, I had my phone off. I spent the whole afternoon in the studio. I want to get this done now so we can spend time together.” She was giddy at hearing his voice.
“Did you get anything accomplished?” She got up from the computer and lay down in her bed.
“Yeah, I think I did. Maybe just a few … it’s amazing how long it takes just for one song. And you can bet when David gets in tomorrow he’s gonna say it’s shit and make me re-do it.” Another sigh.
“Does that happen often?” Karen asked.
“More often then you would think. I think it sounds good, you’d think it sounds good, he says it’s shit.” She sighed. Josh was making grunting noises.
“What are you doing?” She teased. Josh laughed softly.
“Getting undressed.” He said in a low voice.
“Oh God, don’t do that to me.” She whispered. “I miss you so bad.” He chuckled.
“Tell me about it. How many times did we do it this weekend? And now I sit here all alone and missing you …” He trailed off. “Very, very much.” He said with a whisper.
“How much?” Karen wanted to know, her body on fire.
“So much that I’m big and hard for you.” She gasped, pain wracked through her, she wanted him so badly.
“Oh God, Josh, I want it.” He was breathing heavily into the phone.
“Not as bad as I want to give it to you. You are so sweet inside, soft and wet …” He trailed off and his breathing was getting heavier. Karen slid off the bed and tiptoed over to the bedroom door where she closed it and turned the lock. She slipped off her pajama pants and crawled back into bed.
“I’m touching myself Josh.” She said as she slid her fingers between her legs and found herself quite slick.
“Oh Karen, baby, imagine that’s me, my fingers touching you, slipping inside you.” She dipped one finger inside her and moaned. “I love to kiss you down there, to slide my tongue inside you, licking you … I love the way you moan and hold my head while I’m doing it.” She found her special spot and rubbed a slippery finger over it. She shivered and then did it again.
“Oh Josh, baby, are you touching yourself?” He sighed.
“Yes. I’m holding it tightly, pretending it’s your mouth on me, the way you were this morning, sucking it.” He gasped and moaned into the phone. The sounds he made while pleasuring himself was bringing Karen’s excitement to a peak.
“Josh, oh Josh, I’m almost there.” She panted. He groaned.
“Me too, baby, me too, hang on another minute …” They were both silent save for light gasps and moans. “Okay, Karen, are you ready?” Josh asked. Karen bit her lip, she was almost past go.
“Yes.” She breathed and as she released, she slid her fingers deep inside herself feeling the contractions. Josh moaned as he came on the other end, calling her name over and over. She relaxed and grabbed for the box of tissues next to the bed. “Oh Josh, damn.” She sighed.
“Not quite as good as this morning but I needed you so bad right now.” She took a deep breath.
“I know. Me too.” She lay back on the bed and imagined he was doing the same thing.
“I miss you, Karen.” He whispered.
“I miss you too, Josh.” She said back, a little choked up.
“When are you coming back?”
The color-filled Maple leaves blew off the trees and drifted past Karen as she walked down the street towards the school. The wind whipped around her legs flattening her pants on her knees and shins. The sky was a slate gray and threatening to rain. Another fall day in Ohio … Karen pulled her jacket closer around her as she rounded the corner and entered the high school. The heavy glass door nearly slammed closed on her behind. She squeaked and jumped as it banged against the jamb. She frowned glancing back at it and then headed down the hallway towards the Dean’s office, heels clicking on the floor. She pushed the door open and went inside. It was comfortably warm and bustling with secretaries and students with passes, anxiously waiting to visit with counselors, their advice muchly needed. Karen stood at the counter and waited to be noticed. Finally a white haired woman with a name tag that identified her as Janet asked if she could be of assistance.
“Yes.” Karen began. “I have an appointment with Mr. Bentley.” She resisted the urge to add, like the car. The woman nodded and pressed a button on the phone.
“Your appointment is here.” She heard her say and then she looked up at Karen. “You can have a seat, it’ll be a few minutes.” Karen sighed and sat down in one of the most uncomfortable chairs she’d ever put her bottom on. She decided after a minute that they probably put those chairs there on purpose to discourage the kids from hanging out in the office.
“Mrs. Tucker.” A male voice called. “I’m Thomas Bentley.” She stood straight up and stared up at the blonde-haired, blue-eyed man who smiled at her. He held a large arm outward for her to shake. She took it gingerly and shook his hand.
“Nice to meet you.” She muttered. He swept his arm backwards.
“Please come in.” He said indicating his office in the back of the room. A wooden plaque with ‘Thomas Bentley, Dean of Students’ adorned the door. She wasn’t impressed. This wasn’t a friendly visit and she wished he’d stop leering at her and get on with it. Once she had entered the office he closed the door behind her and indicated towards a chair in front of a large desk that took up more then ¾ of the space in the room. She sat down on cold leather and set her purse on her lap. Thomas Bentley sat across from her and folded his hands in front of him.
“How are you today Mrs. Tucker?” He asked. She’d had enough of him already.
“It’s Ms. Tucker, Mr. Bentley.” She said, accentuating the ‘miz’ and the ‘mister.’ “Can I just have my son’s toy back now?”
“We have rules in the school to protect the children, ma’am, not to upset them and cause trouble.” She sighed. She’d heard all this crap before and was in no mood to hear it all again.
“Mr. Bentley …”
“Thomas.” He interjected.
“Thomas, I had to leave work early for this meeting, the fact that my son was involved in a fight here in the school has upset me greatly. I understand the whole basic idea of rules and regulations …” She waved her arms in the air illustrating her knowledge. “And I will deal with him appropriately but I need the IPOD back.” She held her hand out to him expectantly. Karen suddenly noticed she was breathing heavily, nearly panting and focused on calming herself before she started to yell and throw things at this imperious bastard who took the IPOD Josh gave to Ryan and is now threatening to keep it. It was bad enough when Ryan was expelled for a day for fighting in the cafeteria with some Junior who wanted to play ‘keep away’ with it. From the day Karen had given it to him, Ryan treated it as if it were made of gold and never, ever let it leave his sight. Never mind that it cost around $500, it had been given to him by Josh and meant more then the outlandish price. Now Karen wanted it back and she wanted it now.
“Ms. Tucker, usually when we take something away it doesn’t get returned.” He smiled and showed his teeth. At that very moment she had a strong urge to knock them right out of his head.
“And if you keep this IPOD you will be answering to my lawyer. That CD player or whatever it is was given to him by someone special and had quite a hefty price tag. I suggest you give it to me now while I’m still being polite.” He sighed and leaned back in his chair obviously weighing the choices. He closed his eyes and blew air out of his mouth. Karen turned her head as the smell of his breath drifted towards her. Had he never heard of minty gum or breath mints? It was especially pungent in that contained space. She glanced down at her watch nervously, the kids were already home, waiting, and Josh was supposed to be on Entertainment Tonight for a short interview. She certainly didn’t want to miss that. He finally reached down into his drawer and retrieved the small IPOD Nano along with a series of cords and a set of headphones and plopped it down on the desk in front of her. She stood and went to grab it but he stopped her.
“If I see this in school again Mrs. Tucker, I’m taking it and bringing it home to one of my kids. God knows we can’t afford this stuff, I don’t know how you can.” Karen snatched it up from the desk and flashed her angry green eyes at him.
“I told you before it was a gift. And if I hadn’t insisted you give it back you were going to do that anyway. You are something else.” She said, stuffed the IPOD in her purse and stormed out slamming the door behind her leaving a trail of blowing papers in her wake. She left the office and left the building hurriedly. Getting into her van, Karen sat trembling on the seat. She hated confrontations, she hated when the kids got into trouble at school and mixing the two together was bad medicine. She went to put the key into the ignition and found her hands trembling. “Oh, Karen stop it!” She chastised herself. She shoved the key in the hole and turned on the van. She cautiously backed out of the parking space and headed home. She was almost there when her cell phone rang. Absently she answered it and the sound of Josh’s voice was calming to her soul.
“Thank you for calling.” She said after taking a deep breath. He chuckled.
“Well you’re welcome but what for?”
“Because Ryan got into trouble at school today and I had to go there for a meeting. I was so angry.” She debated whether or not to tell him about the IPOD.
“What did he do?”
“He got into a fight.” Karen sighed and headed down her block towards the house. Josh sucked in air, not quite a gasp but close.
“Ooooo …” He said. “Not good. Why? Did he say?” Karen parked in the drive and got out of the van.
“Yeah, he said. And it really wasn’t his fault but he did earn a day off of school.” She headed up to the house, all was quiet. She hoped it was a good sign.
“Oh, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars …” Karen chuckled.
“Yeah, something like that.” She went inside and the smell of baking potatoes was in the air. She inhaled deeply. It smelled heavenly. Her belly growled, she had been hungry but until she smelled the food, didn’t realize it. She wondered who was baking them.
“Did he give it to you?” Ryan called from the kitchen after hearing Karen come in. She made her way quickly into the kitchen and shushed him. She nodded to let him know that she had gotten it. He made a “whew” face and pretended to wipe his brow.
“You won’t believe this Josh, but Ryan is making dinner tonight.” Ryan smiled at her and showed his teeth.
“What?” Josh asked, incredulous. “Your Ryan or some alien who has swapped bodies with Ryan and calls himself Ryan?” Karen giggled and leaned forward to kiss her son who was puckered up in front of her.
“It’s my Ryan, at least I think it is, and my Ryan needs a shower!” Josh laughed.
“Very funny, Mom.” Ryan said, sarcastically.
“Don’t forget sweetie,” Josh said. “Turn on ET at 6.” Karen peeked into a pot on the stove and smelled what she identified as chili.
“Oh, Josh, I would not forget that!!! I’d forget to wipe my ass before I’d forget to turn you on.” He snickered. “Now that’s not what I meant.” She said with a smile.
“Yeah, but it’s what you said so obviously your Freudian slip is showing!” She laughed as she headed into her room to change from her work clothes to her jeans.
“Joshua!” She said.
“What?” He said, feigning innocence. “Can I help it every time I think about you and hear your voice I get a stiffy?” Karen sighed. She had the same reaction when it came to him.
“And speaking of which, Josh, when can I see you again?” She slipped easily into her jeans then buttoned and zipped them. He sighed heavily.
“I was going to come this weekend but fucking Brian goes and schedules me for this frigging benefit thing in New York.” She could tell by the way he was talking he was gritting his teeth in frustration.
“I’m sorry.” She said softly. She really was. Her body and her soul ached to be with him.
“On the upside honey, I’m almost done recording.” She smiled for him and for herself.
“Yay!” She said, turning on her computer. She sat down on her bed and sighed.
“What was that for?” Josh asked.
“I miss you so much.” She whined and flopped back on her bed. Josh groaned.
“I miss you more.” He whined back. “I really do!”
“But you’re busy making music and doing interviews and you don’t have time to miss me, I have lots of time to miss you.”
“Oh that’s not true!” He said quickly. “Karen, everywhere I go I see your face, I see something that reminds me of you and our short time together. I am dying, literally dying to hold you!!” She felt an ache in her belly that spread to her chest, engulfing her heart.
“Then get your hot ass out here and hold me, I’m all yours.”
“I’m going to try.” He said, sounding a little choked up. “Trust me.”
“I do trust you, Josh. I know that if you could be here, you would be here.”
“That’s right and I would be holding you and kissing you and …” Karen sat up quickly.
“No! Josh, stop! Don’t do that to me now! I still have to get through dinner!!” He laughed.
“What?” He tried that ‘innocent’ tone that hadn’t worked before. “I was just telling you what I would do if I was there!” She sighed.
“I know and while you were telling me I’d have to close my bedroom door and …” He groaned.
“Let’s.”
“Let’s not.”
“Let’s later then.” She smiled.
“Later is fine.” She could hear, rather then see him smile.
“It’s a date then! Hey, honey, you go finish dinner then turn on E.T.” He said. Karen agreed. She couldn’t finish fixing dinner and hold a cell phone to her ear at the same time, she just couldn’t contort like that and she was getting a pain in her neck.
“That would be great, I’ll call you after I see you.”
“Okay babe.” He said.
“Josh?” Karen said softly.
“Yes?” He replied in the same soft tone.
“I … love you.” He sighed.
“I love you too mi querida.” He whispered and they hung up.
“Holy crap, mom, he said your name!!!” Kelly leaped up off the couch and jumped up and down pointing at the TV. Karen beamed, her face ached from the grin that spread across it. Josh was being interviewed and when asked about January, Josh had stated that he and January were history and he had a new love in his life, Karen and that she was a “beautiful, intelligent, mature, and fun person with whom I love to spend time and as soon as I finish this CD we will be inseparable!” She felt a feeling of love that began in her belly and swelled all the way up to the top of her head.
“Woah, Mom. You’re somebody now. I can’t believe it.” Ryan said. Karen shook her head trying to clear her thoughts. Instinctively she reached over and pinched herself to see if she would wake up. Never in her life did she think she would be the love of anyone’s life much less a famous, multi-talented, very handsome young man named Josh Groban. Carlie leaped into her arms and kissed her.
“You can forget about Dad now, Mom.” Carlie said innocently. Karen squeezed her daughter. It was almost frightening how much kids knew about their parents without their knowledge, like they had a sixth sense or something.
“I could never forget about him, baby.” Karen said and kissed her little girl. “I wouldn’t have you three if it wasn’t for him.”
“Awwww …” Carlie said and wrapped her arms tightly around her mom’s neck.
Karen called Josh as soon as the show was over and after the phone was passed around from kid to kid and they all got to talk to him, she finally settled on the couch.
“You are so sweet.” She said.
“No, I’m honest. I don’t say anything that isn’t true. And Karen …” He paused. “It’s time you know something about me.” She took a deep breath.
“What?” She couldn’t imagine what he was going to say.
“I never lie.” She laughed.
“Yes you do, everyone lies.”
“No, no I don’t.” He adamantly denied.
“Not even little white lies?”
“No. I don’t believe in lying.” She sighed.
“You’re lying now.” He laughed.
“Okay … I may not be rude or tell the whole truth but I don’t lie.”
“Whatever you say Mr. Honest.” He laughed again. Josh and Karen hung up a short time after so she could get the kids into bed and then called him again once they were safely tucked away.
“Are you naked?” He asked. She looked down at the over sized tee shirt she wore.
“No.” She said.
“Tell me you are …” He whispered.
“Oh, so it’s okay if I lie to you but you won’t lie to me?” He laughed. “Are you naked?” She asked him.
“Yes.” He breathed. “And I want you … bad!” She felt heat grip her chest.
“Okay, yeah, I’m naked …” She said anxiously.
“Are you ready for me?” She ran her hand down her belly to her mound and then slipped her finger between her lips.
“Oh God yes!” She said. “I’m ready for you 24/7!” He sighed.
“The let’s get it on ….”
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Karen rushed the kids off to school and then headed off to work. She checked the clock inside the van and swore out loud. She was going to be at least5 minutes late maybe more and she was going to miss Josh on the Today show. She had tears of frustration building but she was determined not to let them out. He promised that it would be taped just like all his performances and that she could watch them anytime she wanted. It wouldn’t be the same. She came to a halt on the main street which led to the parking lot of her job and if the traffic would just move … perhaps she wouldn’t be late. She sighed and turned off the news radio she had been listening to and slipped in one of Josh’s CDs that he’d snuck into her suitcase and the sound of his voice filled the van and was calming, soothing to her. Okay, she breathed out of her mouth, so she wouldn’t get to see him on the show right now when it was happening, she would certainly get to talk to him later and he would send her the DVD. She felt peace settle over her and once more the traffic started to move. She sat at her desk fielding phone calls and working on ledgers and eyeing the clock. She bit her lip and sighed heavily when she knew he was performing and wished to hell she could have been there. This long distance relationship was a chore and even more so with the kids to contend with. Even if, perhaps, she could have gotten time off to go with him who would have taken care of the kids? She couldn’t always rely on HIM and wouldn’t have asked him anyway. When she knew he would be finished singing she felt a little better. She snatched up the phone and rang his cell. He answered quickly.
“I knew it would be you.” He said with a laugh. She sighed.
“I’m too predictable.”
“You’re too cute. And I know you were upset that you missed the show but I promised it would be taped for you and it was! I’ll have it to you the same day mi amor. That is a promise.” She smiled. “Y estaré allí entregarlo en persona.”
Karen frowned.
“Now what the hell was that? I understood the mi amor thing but you lost me with the last sentence.” He laughed.
“Don’t you worry your pretty head about it dear, you’ll find out when you get the DVD.” She sighed. She hated surprises. Well it wasn’t that she hated them per se but it was frustrating not knowing something. Especially when it was told outright to her in a foreign language that she studied for many years and should probably remember some of but she didn’t. He sounded winded, like he was running.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“I’m off to catch a plane. Can I talk to you when I touch down?” She didn’t want to let him go but she was at work and he was off to catch a flight back to L.A. She glanced at her watch, it was almost lunch time anyway.
“Yes, of course!! Go, don’t miss your flight. Call me when you get back to L.A.”
“Si.” Josh said in Spanish again. “Te amo.”
“The same to you handsome.” She said and hung up. She put her face in her hands and felt a fleeting moment of sadness wash over her and as quickly as it appeared it had gone. Karen got up and went to the ladies’ room where she sat and took a breather. She chastised herself for being so wrapped up in Josh that it upset to this degree when she couldn’t see him. Well, she reasoned, this wasn’t a normal relationship. In any ‘normal’ relationship the two people in the relationship see each other if not on a daily basis, at least once a week or more. The door opened and Charlotte walked in. She stopped when she saw Karen.
“Hey …” She said. “Is everything okay?” Charlotte was a co-worker who wasn’t really what Karen would call a friend but definitely someone she could talk to, perhaps even confide in. Karen looked up and faked a smile.
“Yeah, everything’s okay. I just …” She trailed off, not knowing whether or not to divulge. “I have this boyfriend … and he lives in California. I hardly get to see him and sometimes it makes me nuts.” Charlotte smiled.
“Long distance relationships are tough.” She sighed. “Often times they don’t work out for that reason alone.” Karen snapped her head up and looked at her, not believing what she’d heard. “I mean,” Charlotte sighed. “I didn’t mean to say that. God, I’m stupid sometimes.” Karen uttered a sarcastic laugh. “It’s just rough on the two people, you know?”
“Yeah. One of the most annoying things is that he’s kind of a celebrity and so he’s on TV a lot so I see him but I don’t see him if you know what I mean.” Charlotte made a face.
“Celebrity?” She asked flatly. “Like who? Anyone I know?” She didn’t believe Karen and it was blatantly obvious. Karen didn’t care. She didn’t need to convince anyone here at this company of her relationship with Josh. Most likely they had no idea who he was anyway.
“Have you ever heard of Josh Groban?” Karen asked. Charlotte’s eyes sparkled.
“Yeah. He’s got a beautiful voice.” Karen smiled, knowingly. That’s not all that’s beautiful about him, she thought.
“That’s who he is, my boyfriend.” Charlotte laughed and snorted. Karen frowned.
“You’ve got to be kidding! How in hell did you get …” She cleared her throat. “Josh Groban to go out with you?” Karen sighed heavily. Here we go, she thought. “He’s what, like 20? And you’re …” Karen got up and went over to the sink.
“Forget it Charlotte, I probably should never have told you anyway.”
“Well, Karen. If you are dating Josh Groban then be prepared.” Karen glared at her.
“Why is that?” She asked, curious but evidently annoyed.
“Because there are millions of women dying to get into those tight, hot, little jeans of his – including me!” And with that Charlotte turned and left the room. Karen kicked the cabinet under the sink causing the door to pop open and then close again.
She walked the block from work to Subway and ordered a sandwich and ate there. She needed to get away from work for a while. It would seem after she’d told Charlotte about her and Josh word spread like wild fire. No one said anything to her face but she caught their glances and sideways looks. Disgusted, she tried to ignore but it gnawed at her. Now, sitting there chewing her sandwich, she wished she’d never said anything to anyone in the first place. Glancing down at her watch, she quickly stuffed the last of her lunch in her mouth, cleaned off the table and headed back to work. She’d sat down at her desk and put her purse back in the bottom drawer when Michael, her boss approached her.
“Karen,” He began. She glanced up at him, expecting him to say something about the gossip that was now going around the office. “I just got a call. More flowers have been delivered for you.” He feigned disgust and rolled his eyes. Karen smiled.
“Where are they?” She asked. He pointed towards the other end of the room. She got up and looked to where he was pointing. Someone stood at the other end of the room with a bouquet of flowers held up in front of them. She began to walk over when she saw the flowers being lowered and a mop of curls appear. Her heart fluttered in her chest as Josh smiled at her and held out his arms. She flew into them, wrapping her arms tightly around him. He picked her up and twirled her around.
“Mi querida.” He said into her ear. “Soy aquí justo como dije que sería.” She found his mouth and kissed him. When they finally broke apart, all eyes were on them.
“You are soooo the biggest liar in the world!” She said with a grin. He held her tightly to him.
“No ma’am, I did not lie to you.” He shook his head, eyes focused on hers.
“Yes you did, you said you were headed for L.A.”
“No you said I was headed for L.A., you told me to call you when I got there and I fully intend to!” She laughed and hugged him.
“It doesn’t matter, I’m glad to see you.” He released her and whipped the flowers around and held them out to her.
“They pale in comparison to you but lovely nonetheless.” She took them and held them up to her face where she inhaled the sweet scent deeply. Her eyes slowly opened and she looked up at Josh. He stood, smiling.
“I’m so happy you’re here.” She whispered. “So where’s my DVD?” He tossed his head backwards and laughed.
“It’s in the car!” She giggled and then looked around her. They were the center of attention. She cleared her throat.
“Don’t you guys have work to do?” She said loudly and then dragged Josh to her desk. Michael was waiting for her and Karen introduced Josh.
“We’ve somewhat met.” Josh said shaking her boss’ hand. Michael turned to Karen.
“Karen, go home, have a great weekend. I expect to see you back here Monday morning with a smile on your face.” He said and winked at her. Excitedly she thanked him, grabbed her purse, her flowers, Josh, and then fled the building before he could change his mind. Once they were safely outside, Karen threw her arms around Josh and kissed him with heated passion. She didn’t care who was watching or what they thought. He held her tightly.
“Now why do you want to do that to me out here in public?” She felt his excitement and how it had grown. “How am I supposed to walk to the car without limping?” Karen winked at him.
“I’d throw you down and do you right here on the sidewalk if I didn’t think there would be police involved.” He chuckled and then kissed her again.
“Take me home, baby, I need you.” He stared into her eyes and felt his need pressed against her. Her body ached for him.
“Where did you park?” He pointed down the block. “Okay, go get in the car and I’ll pull up next to you in the van. Follow me home, I’ll go slow so you won’t get lost. I’ll have my cell phone on too if anything should happen.” He slowly and painfully released her. She ran off one way and he made his way to the rental and got inside. Turning it on, he waited until he saw her pull up then put it in drive and followed her home.
Karen drove slowly and watched the rearview mirror for Josh the whole time. Her whole body trembled at the sight of him, his smell, his touch, his mouth, his hair … She shuddered and sighed before panic washed over her. The house was a mess! The kids would be home in a few hours and be home for a few hours before he picked them up! She glanced behind her again and all thoughts faded from her mind except getting home and having him take her again and again. After driving for what seemed like an eternity, they finally pulled into the driveway. Karen got out, grabbing her flowers and pulled Josh into the house. As soon as the door closed, Josh had her up against the door. He grabbed her wrists and pinned them to the door while his mouth explored her mouth, chin, neck. She moaned lustily, a burning sensation spreading from her belly downwards. His hands released hers and then were on her body, he clumsily unbuttoned her blouse. The last few buttons weren’t cooperating; thoughtlessly he ripped her blouse open and touched her blazing skin. She gasped and wrapped her arms around his neck. He fumbled with her bra and finally unsnapped it. He pushed her shirt off her shoulders and bit down into her neck hungrily. Karen pulled off her bra and tossed it onto the floor. She slid her fingers into Josh’s curls as he sucked at her.
“Josh.” She gasped, her nerve endings on fire. “I can’t stand it, take me.” He groaned as his hands cupped her breasts and squeezed them roughly. He backed away from her, heat radiating from him, and lifted her into his arms.
“Point the way.” He panted. She led him down the hallway to her bedroom where he kicked the door open and then kicked it shut before taking her to the bed and laying her down. He shed the denim jacket he wore over a gray sweater and then shed that too. Karen wiggled out of her work pants as Josh ripped at his own clothes, then he was upon her. He hooked his fingers into her panties and pulled them down, his fingers lightly stoking her flaming skin all the way. Her hands found him hard and ready and oozing from the head in anticipation. She opened herself willingly for him and he entered her quickly, filling her. She cried out in both pain and pleasure. He held himself deeply inside her, wanting only to be enveloped by the slick, velvety walls that held him tightly and then he began to move. He groaned as he made love to her. It was fast and it was deep. She moaned with every stroke and wrapped her legs around his back pulling him closer. He dipped his head and slipped his tongue into her mouth, exploring. She met his tongue with hers and they played. His pleasure built quickly and though he tried to hold off, couldn’t and came spurting inside her with intense force. He cried out and then collapsed on her.
“Oh baby.” Karen sighed. “I needed that!” He moaned into her neck and then kissed it.
“Any more then I did?” He whispered and rolled over onto his side pulling her with him. He was still inside her and pulled her leg up over his so he could keep it that way. The swelling still had not gone down and he was hoping to be able to utilize it again soon. Josh smoothed her hair from her forehead and then leaned down and kissed it. She smiled satisfactorily at him.
“Pinch me.” She said and then giggled when he did. “No, I’m not dreaming. You’re really here, in my bed … in my messy house!” He leaned his head back and laughed a throaty laugh. “I’m serious! This house is a wreck!” He raised his eyebrows at her one at a time.
“And what makes you think I’m going to see any part of it other then this bedroom then, eh?” She giggled and messed up his hair. He scrunched up his nose and then shook his head, his curls falling back into place then he slowly leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the lips. She held her mouth there for his lips brushed against hers in tiny, little kisses. He pressed forward a little more, the kissing becoming more heated, more urgent. Karen felt Josh stiffen inside her and became aroused herself. She reached out and pulled his mouth down on hers, sucking his lower lip into her mouth. He allowed her a moment to suck on it until he could stand it no more then delved his tongue into her mouth and sought hers. Josh rolled over onto his back pulling Karen up and on top of him. She sat up and slid down further onto him, he gasped and leaned his head back on the pillow. Karen moved her hips, rocking gently and Josh reached for her, pulling her down to his mouth once more. He slid his fingers through her hair, massaging her head then ran them down her back sending shivers up her spine. She sat up again and placed her hands on his chest as her movement became stronger, more controlled. Josh moaned and closed his eyes. His hands moved to around her waist urging her faster.
“Oh baby, oh Karen …” He whispered as his excitement was coming to a head. “Are you almost there?” He breathed. She leaned forward, rubbing herself on him as she moved quickly up and down, her own orgasm escalating within her belly.
“I’m almost there, Josh …” She panted, her lips apart. She licked her lips then leaned forward. Suddenly there was a rush of pleasure that overtook her in a strong, surging wave and as she contracted in ecstasy, Josh suddenly jerked forward as he peaked himself and sprayed himself inside her. He moaned satisfactorily and flopped back down on the pillow. Karen dismounted and lay beside him. He slipped his arm around her and pulled her into him. She draped her arm over his chest and toyed with the hair that covered it. Josh’s hand around her lightly stroked her bare back.
“It was almost worth being away from you for two weeks for that.” He sighed, sleepily. She shook her head.
“Uh unh.” She said, feeling a little choked up.
“It wasn’t?” Josh asked, worried. She kissed his shoulder.
“I couldn’t stand being away from you that long.” He tightened his arm around her. “I missed you terribly.” She whispered.
“I missed you too mi querida.” He cleared his throat. “And once the CD is through then we’ll have a little time to spend together before the tour.” They lay quietly until, before either realized it, they fell into a light sleep.
Ryan noticed his mother’s car in the driveway with another car right behind and burst into the house wondering why she was home so early. There was nothing but silence. He looked around and grimaced when he found her blouse tossed carelessly onto the floor and her bra laying nearby. He smiled slyly and wondered if the other car might belong to Josh.
“Mom?” He called softly, not wanting to interrupt anything. “Are you home?” He found her bedroom door closed and rapped lightly on it. Just then Kelly burst into the house.
“Mom’s home?” She asked loudly. Ryan shushed her with a finger over his lips and then pointed to the bedroom door.
“I think she’s in there, with Jooosh!” He hissed and then stifled a giggle. Kelly opened her mouth in surprise and then made a hideous face.
“Ewwwww!” She squealed. Ryan smacked her.
“Be quiet, I wanna hear what they’re doing.” She walked off into the kitchen dropping her backpack on a chair on the way.
“You’re sick.” She said and opened the fridge. She pulled out a can of Pepsi and cracked it open. “Doesn’t sound like they are even in there.”
“Oh yeah they are.” Ryan said. “Mom’s clothes are laying all over the place.” He indicated the blouse, the bra, and the bouquet of flowers. Kelly rolled her eyes.
“Again, you’re sick.” Suddenly there was a rustling sound in the bedroom and then a small crash followed by whimpering. Ryan ran from the door and hid in the kitchen.
Inside the bedroom, Karen woke suddenly to the sound of knocking on the bedroom door. She panicked once she realized the kids were home and she was in bed, stark naked, with Josh. She leaped out of bed, found her panties and hopped into them. She made her way quickly to the dresser to find a pair of jeans, stubbed her toe on the foot of it and cried out. Josh sat up suddenly, eyes squinting from the light.
“What are you doing, babe?” He muttered watching Karen hop around like a fish out of water.
“The kids are home.” She whispered slipping on her jeans.
“Oh.” Josh got up out of bed and put his jeans on. Karen smoothed down a tee shirt then ran her hands through her hair.
“How do I look?” She asked laying her arms down at her sides. He smiled and bit his lip.
“Yummy.” He said. She giggled. “Finish dressing, then come out.” She said and then slipped out the door. Ryan and Kelly were at the kitchen table and stifled giggles when Karen approached.
“You’re home early, Mom.” Ryan said smiling at her, knowing.
“Yeah, well, Josh is here for a visit.” She said trying to sound as nonchalant as she could, knowing full well they knew what had been going on. The looks on their faces told all.
“Where is he?” Kelly asked. Just then Carlie burst in the door.
“Mom!!” She squealed throwing her backpack down onto the floor and rushing into Karen’s arms. “You’re home!” Karen hugged her tightly and then knelt down to her.
“Guess who else is here?” Karen asked her. Her eyes opened wide.
“Who?” She breathed. Just then Josh came out of the bedroom, tousled curls sticking up, away from his head. “Josh!” She exclaimed and moved closer to her mother for safety. Josh smiled, stuck his hands into his front pockets and moved towards them.
“Hi, guys.” He said. Karen stood and sidled up to Josh. He put an arm around her shoulder.
“These are my rotten children.” She said to him, he laughed. Karen introduced each one and Josh shook each of their hands except when it came to Carlie. She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him.
“I loved my present.” She said and kissed him on the cheek. He smiled and hugged her back.
“I’m so glad you did.” He said softly. Josh stood and eyed the three of them. “They don’t look so rotten to me.” He commented. Karen sighed.
“Yeah, well you don’t live with them.” She muttered and then laughed.
“Yet!” Ryan said. Karen felt an embarrassed flush spread from the tip of her head to her last toe and could have shriveled up within herself at his comment. Josh just laughed, Karen blushed.
“Ryan, knock it off.” Ryan laughed too. Karen went into the kitchen. “Who wants a grilled cheese sandwich?” She called doing her best to change the subject. The kids replied, “I do!” excitedly, including Josh. Karen smiled to herself and as she prepared the sandwiches listened to the kids bombarding Josh with questions and talking to him. She felt a swelling in her chest as she heard Josh chatting away and laughing. It was very nice to have someone else around to entertain the kids. She hadn’t realized until now how much she missed that. Feeling a little choked up, she cleared her throat. She finished grilling the sandwiches then cut them into 4 triangles and set them all on a plate. “Hey, guess what, Josh was on TV today and he brought me a copy of it. You guys want to watch it with me?” Josh sighed and rolled his eyes.
“No, they don’t!” He protested.
“I wanna see it!” Kelly said and then blushed instantly as Josh smiled at her. All of them decided they wanted to see it. Karen looked around for it but couldn’t remember where she put it. When she ran across her discarded blouse and bra she blushed furiously and scooped them up. She then found the flowers and took them into the kitchen. Then she remembered that the flowers were the only thing she’d brought into the house with her.
“Duh,” She said and laughed. “It’s in the car!” She said and went out to get it. She could have smacked herself when she not only found the car unlocked but her purse and the DVD inside. She locked the car then and brought all of her valuables into the house. The 5 of them sat and watched Josh on the Today show together and munched on grilled cheese sandwiches.
“You play that piano really good.” Ryan said when it was over. “Can you teach me how to play?” Josh laughed.
“Well I could give it my best shot.” He said. Karen rolled her eyes.
“Oh sure, Ry, Josh will teach you to play the piano on our non-existent keyboard!” Ryan stuck his tongue out at his mother.
“You really are a good singer.” Kelly said quietly. Karen watched her as she spoke to Josh, her cheeks were tinged a slight pink and she trembled slightly. She was developing a crush on Josh, it was fairly evident. Josh smiled at her.
“Well thank you, Kelly. I appreciate that.” Kelly looked down, embarrassed at the attention he paid her.
“My mom won’t let me wear the necklace you gave me.” Josh frowned, clamped his lips closed and glared at Karen.
“And why not?” He asked.
“Because it’ll get stolen at school or worse, lost.” She looked at Kelly. “Then how would you feel?” She asked her. Josh’s look softened and he tilted Kelly’s chin upward so she was looking at him, her eyes big as marbles.
“She’s got a point.” He said softly. “But how about this, how about we go out to dinner and then you can wear it.” Kelly grinned.
“Good idea!” She said.
“Where should we go?” Carlie asked, excited.
“Wait, wait, wait!” Karen said loudly, holding up her hands to the gang in front of her who were now loudly making plans to go out. “There will be no going out to dinner tonight!” She said. The kids looked at her and moaned.
“Why?” Josh asked. Karen pointed to her watch.
“Because their father will be here shortly to pick them up.” The kids grumbled.
“We don’t want to go today.” Kelly said. Karen opened her mouth in surprise.
“Oh really? You want to go every other Friday, what makes today different?” The three of them turned their heads to look at Josh. Josh noticed, raised up his hands, and shrugged his shoulders.
“What?” He said.
“We want to stay here with Josh.” Carlie said rushing over to him and hugging him. He pulled her onto his lap.
“There will be many more times for you to be with Josh. This weekend you’re going to your dad’s.” Karen was adamant. Yes, selfish as it was, she wanted Josh to herself this weekend and the kids weren’t going to spoil that.
“Listen,” He said, now rocking Carlie on his lap. “I will have you all come out by me and I’ll show you around Hollywood. How would that be?” Ryan grinned and Kelly’s eyes opened wide in astonishment.
“Yessssss!” She hissed.
“When?” Ryan asked.
“It’s up to your mom.” He said tossing the ball into Karen’s court. She planted her hands on her hips and sighed.
“You’re going to fly us out to L.A. for a two day visit? That’s a lot of money, Josh.” She said.
“Who said I was paying?” He retorted and then laughed when she growled at him.
“Then we’re for sure not going.” The older kids groaned in disappointment. “Listen, you guys get ready to go to your dad’s and Josh and I will talk about this plan while you’re gone. I’ll let you know on Sunday night when we have decided what we’re doing.”
“Fine!” Ryan said and stomped off towards his room to get his stuff together for the weekend with his dad. Kelly was close behind.
He picked up the kids at 5:15 sharp. The kids had been waiting for him. Karen opened the door when he knocked.
“What are you doing home?” He asked her.
“It’s none of your business.” Karen said and leaned on the door.
“Well okay then.” He said and then called to the kids. They came reluctantly.
“Mom’s got a new boyfriend.” Kelly said. His eyes opened wide.
“Really?” He asked. “So that’s who’s car is behind yours. Aren’t you going to introduce me?” Karen shook her head.
“No, I’m not.” She said. He tried to peek around her and into the house for a glimpse. She kissed the kids goodbye and when they were out, slammed the door in his face leaving him wondering. She sauntered up to Josh, he pulled her into his arms and she draped her arms over his shoulders.
“You’re perfectly evil.” He said to her. She smiled.
“I hate him.” She said, matter-of-fact.
“That’s fairly obvious.” He winked. She leaned up and kissed him.
“I don’t want to talk about him anymore.” She whispered and kissed him again, this time a little more passionately. He pulled her body close to him, she could feel him harden as they kissed. She absolutely loved that about him, anytime they kissed he became aroused. This was going to be a good
relationship …
****************************************************************************
The doorbell rang. Josh slipped on a pair of sweat shorts, grabbed his wallet out of his jeans pocket and headed for the door. He paid for the food, shut the door and headed back into the bedroom. He set the food down on a towel on Karen’s dresser. She sat in the bed, naked, her knees bent and her arms hugging her knees. She smiled. She had been instructed not to get out of bed and no clothes were allowed until the morning. He filled two plates of food and brought them to her. She held them while he got their drinks then he slipped underneath the covers and shivered.
“What’s wrong?” Karen asked, handing him a plate. He sat back against the pillows and cracked open a Diet Pepsi. He sipped before answering.
“It’s freaking cold here!” He said and then shoveled food into his mouth.
Karen laughed.
“It is not!” She said, it’s no where near cold.” He washed the Chinese food down with his Pepsi.
“Oh yeah it is. I don’t know if I could stay here if it got cold enough to snow …” She laughed again and then leaned over and kissed him.
“Poor baby. Then I guess you’ll just have to stay in the warmer climate all winter long.” He shook his head.
“Not if it means you’re staying here and I’ll be without you. I’ll adapt. I’m adaptable.” They finished eating their dinner and Josh took the leftovers and dirty dishes out to the kitchen. Karen scooted down into the bed and under the covers. Josh snuggled back into the bed next to her and pulled her close for warmth and then sighed.
“Well now Mr. Naked California, what are we going to do?” He stroked her arm lightly and then kissed it.
“Wanna watch a movie?” He asked.
“Nope.” She said snaking her leg between his warm thighs. He pushed her hair off her neck and pressed his lips against it. She sighed. He kissed her softly first up to her chin then back down to the little dip where her neck meets her shoulder. He licked it lightly which elicited another sigh from her.
“Oh you like that …” He said softly and then licked her some more. He licked around to the front of her throat and then up to her chin. Karen swallowed hard and ran her hand down his back and over his bottom then around his hip. “Find anything you like down there?” He whispered between licks. She found him hard then wrapped her fingers around him. He moaned softly as she tugged on him. He pulled her leg from between his and slid his fingers between her legs. He rubbed a finger on the outside of her and felt her lips swell. He groaned and bit her neck. She yelped and swatted at him.
“Why’d you do that?” She snapped and then laughed when he did it again.
“You know how to push my buttons.” He said.
“How? I didn’t do anything.” He kissed his way down to her breasts.
“Mmmhmmm …” He said sucking her nipple into his mouth.
“Mmmnmmm.” She denied twirling her fingers in his curls. He kissed down her belly to the mound of fur that covered her sweet spot. Pushing her back onto the bed he lifted her legs and opened her up to himself.
“The way you do that, God, Karen, makes me want to eat you alive!” She smiled. She wasn’t aware of anything she did that made him feel like that but whatever it was she prayed she never stops doing it.
“Okay.” She said and closed her eyes as he settled himself and then used his fingers to pull her open to him. “Then eat, eat all you want! Just don’t stop until I tell you to!” He licked the insides of her lips and moved his tongue inward. She gasped as he finally licked her swollen bulb. “Oh baby …” She sighed. He plunged his tongue deeply into her and urged on by her moans, did it again, then again.
“Come for me baby, I want to feel you …” He broke away long enough to say then he went back to her, lapping at her, concentrating on the one part of her that when he touched with his tongue made her tense up. She grabbed his head and held him there and with a whimper she came in a rush that began in her belly and spread outward engulfing her in waves of pleasure.
“Josh, please?” She begged, pulling at him. He indulged her by entering her swiftly and holding himself there, feeling her aftershocks. When she’d settled down he began to make love to her slowly. He didn’t have to rush, they had all the time in the world, nothing planned, no one to call, no personal appearances … and no kids. He leaned down on one elbow and while he leisurely pleasured her, toyed with her hair. He watched the satisfaction in her eyes and without warning, a warm rushing feeling overtook him and he climaxed. He pressed his lips against hers as he did and said a silent thankful prayer. After he relaxed a moment, he rolled off to her side and allowed her out of the bed and out of the room to go to the bathroom but then, with a laugh, ordered her right back! He lay there, waiting for Karen, arms folded beneath his head and smiled. He could have been Joe Nobody right then, with not a cent to his name, no voice, nothing and he would still have felt like the richest man alive. Being with Karen did that to him. No matter how many times he talked to her on the phone, just being here with her, enveloped in her warmth, made him feel happy, safe. Karen snuck back into bed, she was covered in goose bumps. Josh pulled her into his arms and rubbed her arms to warm her.
“Damn it’s chilly out there.” She said indicating the hallway with a finger stuck out of the blanket. Josh smiled. He was well aware how cold it was out there … hence the reason Karen wasn’t allowed to wear anything now, it forced her to snuggle with him and stay close! He chuckled. “What’s so funny?” She asked, suspicious. He kissed her forehead.
“Nothing, dear. I’m going to go brush my teeth. Keep this bed warm for me, will you?” Karen smacked his ass as he got out of bed. He did a little hop then rubbed it as he headed out of the room. He was gone only a few minutes but before he crawled into bed Karen made him put on one of his concert CDs. He slipped the disc into the player and then he curled up under covers with her again. They watched until their eyes could stay open no longer, then sleep came and cradled them until just before dawn …….
Karen sat up leaning on her elbow and watched Josh sleep. He was the most beautiful man she’d ever known. Not just the outside but inside as well. His chest rose and fell in rhythm with his breathing. His lashes lay splayed on his bottom lid. She sighed. They were so pretty and it was almost a shame that they were wasted on a man. But they weren’t wasted on Josh, he was perfect from the tip of his head to the littlest of his toes. She spontaneously burst into a grin and covered her mouth as she giggled like a school girl. He coughed and rolled over towards her. She reached out her hand and touched the curls that stuck straight up from the side of his head. His hair was phenomenal. It was the first thing you saw when you looked at him, it hugged his head like a halo. The curls were going to be his trademark, she would have bet her life on it. She studied his face and sighed again. Once more, perfect. His skin was flawless save for a thin film of fuzz that had grown overnight. He was quite feminine in features but he wasn’t girly. Far from it! He was simply a very humble human being for someone as talented and as good looking as he was. He may never know how he affected her even though she could try to tell him. Words would surely fail her in that capacity. He rested his hand on the pillow next to his face and she eyed his fingers, so long and slender. They were tailor made to playing the piano and though they brought so many people much pleasure that way they had also brought her pleasure too, in another way. Karen was suddenly flooded with desire for him. They made love four times since he’d arrived yesterday afternoon and you would think she would have had enough, when it came to sexual pleasure with Josh she was insatiable. She lightly stroked his fingers. He sighed and flipped back over onto his back. She rested her hand oh his furry chest and then noticed how the blanket rose around his pelvis. Again she stifled a giggle. Slowly she slid her hand down his chest and under the covers where she found him standing at attention. Karen took him into her hand and gasped at the heat and bulk of it. Pulling back the covers she scooted down and while holding him, slid her mouth down around it. He moaned involuntarily. She tightened her lips around him and slowly slid upward before engulfing it again. Josh groaned again and slowly woke from the erotic feelings that washed over him.
“Baby, what are you doing?” He sighed, resting his hand on her head.
“Mmmm …” She replied, sucking at him then licking. “Good morning.” She whispered.
“God, yes, it’s good.” He closed his eyes and left her to her work. “A man should wake up like this every day.” She giggled then turned her attention back to him. His body began to tense up, muscles tightening. “Karen,” Josh whispered. “Let me come inside you.” He tugged at her. She sat up and then got onto her hands and knees.
“Come get it.” He followed her lead, knelt behind her and slipped inside easily, filling her. She moaned huskily. He grabbed her hips with his hands and slid himself in and out of her.
“God, Karen, you are wet today.” He moaned, his orgasm building quickly. “I hope you don’t want me to take my time because I don’t think I can …” He leaned over her back and held her tightly as he pumped himself one last time before emptying inside her and moaning loudly. They both flopped down on the bed and curled into each other. “Wow, I could get used to waking up like that every day.” Karen smiled.
“Yeah, well, don’t be too disappointed then.” He pinched her nose.
“So let’s do something today.” He sighed. “Starting with breakfast.”
“What do you want to do?” She asked and pressed her face into his chest. She breathed in his scent. It was a slight musky smell mixed with the gentle spice of cologne.
“Something different.” He sighed.
“You don’t want to stay in bed all day?” She giggled. He squeezed her.
“Well yeah, but since I only have a day and a half with you, I want to do something. I think you deserve more then to stay in the house all day.” He sighed, thinking.
“Why don’t we go shopping?” He stuck out his tongue.
“No, God no! Want to go for a hike, is there anywhere to hike around here?” Karen thought a moment.
“Yeah, there’s a state park not too far from here.”
“Excellent! Let’s do it.”
Karen and Josh lay in bed for a while and before long fell back to sleep. When they woke again they dressed and went to breakfast.
“So you’re sure you want to go hiking?” Karen asked him as they left the restaurant. He opened the door of the rental car for her. She scooted in and he went around to the other side.
“Yeah.” He said as he started the car. “I like to hike. Do you?” She nodded.
“Yeah, sure.” He laughed as he headed back to Karen’s house.
“Yeah, sure?”
“Okay, yeah, hey I love it! I couldn’t think of anything better!” He laughed again.
“Well, I’m going to need a warmer jacket then this though. Is there some sort of Sears or something here where I can buy a parka?” Karen burst out in giggles.
“Josh! Good God, it’s 50 degrees, not 20! You really wouldn’t survive a winter here, would you?” He shook his head.
“No, I doubt it.” She sighed. “Turn left here and we’ll go to Sears and get you something warmer then a jean jacket.” The two went to Sears, grabbed a bulky, black, zip sweater for Josh then went back to Karen’s. They threw a couple of bottles of water, a few apples, and a camera into a backpack and headed off to Streetsboro.
Karen slipped her hand inside Josh’s as they walked along the trail. He wrapped his fingers around her hand engulfing it and making it feel small in comparison. The trail was littered with fallen leaves, some traditional fall color, some still green. Josh shuffled his feet through them, enjoying the shooshing sound they made. The air was crisp and cool and if you breathed out enough you could make a small puff of smoke. Karen laughed as Josh pursed his lips and exhaled.
“Woah.” He said as his breath turned to steam and then quickly dissipated. “That’s cool!” She smiled at him.
“You’re so silly.” He squeezed her hand. The trail led into the woods and the air became noticeably cooler as they approached the umbrella of trees. The musky smell of wood and rotting fauna assaulted their noses. Josh breathed in deeply.
“I love the smell of the forest, don’t you?” Karen nodded in agreement. There was certainly something feral about it. She didn’t get out into the state park as often as she should, she decided. Now, here with Josh, it was something more special and out of the ordinary then the last time she was here when the kids were little and running around like crazed Indians.
“How often do you hike?” Karen asked him breaking the sound of their feet crunching on the gravel and the crickets’ song.
“Not nearly as often as I should. God, there is nothing like this kind of quiet – and it’s not really even quiet, it’s …” He trailed off, thinking. “Peaceful.”
“Yes it is.” She agreed.
“I don’t get enough peace lately, Karen. This is like Heaven to me.” She smiled at him and he returned the greeting.
“What else do you like to do?” She asked. He sighed.
“Well … I’m kind of boring. I like to do musical stuff, stuff related to music I guess but I like to ride my bike, walk, watch movies, play games. The usual stuff.” She nodded. “How about you?” He asked. She shrugged.
“Oh various things. I guess I’ve really lost my desire to do much being as I’m always taking care of kids or working. I didn’t really do too much before I met you. What is there to do by yourself?” He laughed gruffly.
“I could think of all kinds of things!” She swatted at his arm. “I love to picture you that way.” She sighed.
“You’re a sex maniac.” She accused.
“Guilty!” He admitted. They walked on in silence again for a while.
“So Josh, how did you get to be where you are?” He sighed and thought.
“I have always been a singer.” He said and kicked a large rock. It shot off into the trees. “My parents had me taking singing lessons since I was little. I didn’t spend every waking moment singing but I did enjoy it.”
“Well when did you know you wanted a career in music?”
“Probably not until high school. I knew I could sing, it was getting someone else to know that was tough. But, my parents were well off, my dad is a big guy in his business and he knew people. It’s very rare that someone in the entertainment industry is ‘discovered’ from the barrio, you know?” She nodded and tucked her hair behind her ear. “I was such a dork in high school. You wouldn’t believe I was the same person. I was shy and introverted. But I was never shy to get out onstage and belt one out.”
“How weird is that?” He laughed.
“Yeah, right?”
“So how is it now?” He sighed heavily.
“I like it Karen but it’s not easy. Everything suffers. I don’t do anything I used to do … before. I can hardly go anywhere without being recognized and mobbed. And you know what bothers me the most?” He said with a laugh.
“What?” She asked, curious.
“All the make-up and hair shit!” She laughed with him.
“What?”
“Yeah, there’s always someone messing with my hair, pulling at it, squeezing it. It’s frigging annoying.”
“So should I not touch it?” She asked softly, fearing the answer. He stopped suddenly and turned her towards him. He slipped his arms around her.
“You’d better not stop touching it!” He said and kissed her. He then took her hands and put them on the sides of his head, encouraging her to touch his curls. “It’s so different when you touch my hair then when some asswipe is scrunching it or pulling at it.” She twirled her fingers in the soft loops. He dipped his head and kissed her mouth once, twice, then pulled her body to his. She moved against him feeling him stiffen inside his jeans. He leaned back and glanced around them. All was silent and deserted. He looked back at her and raised his eyebrows lecherously then growled. Her eyes opened wide and she gasped.
“Josh!” She hissed. “You don’t …” He covered her mouth with his and slipped his tongue inside it. He moved his hips against her, showing her how much he wanted her.
“I’ve never done it in the woods.” He whispered into her ear and then bit at her neck. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of it. She looked around nervously as he sucked at her neck then moved her jacket aside and bit her shoulder. She gasped. Her body responded to his erotic attempts at seduction. Josh took her by the hand and pulled her behind a tree where he dropped the backpack and then pushed her back against the tree. He slid one arm around her waist and pulled her close. He tilted her head sideways and bit her again. “C’mon baby …” He moaned and slid his fingers around the waistband of her jeans. He unsnapped them and unzipped them and ran the tips of his fingers over the soft silk of her panties. Karen ran her hands up underneath his sweater and felt the heat of his back.
“I don’t know, what if …”
“Shhhhh …” He shushed her with a kiss and slid his hands down inside the back of her pants over her rear. She groaned as his fingers slid between her crack and felt her wetness. “God, I want you.” He breathed. She reached around and unsnapped his jeans then unzipped them. She reached inside and felt him, hard and throbbing.
“Please then, I want you to. Fuck me, Josh.” He let her go long enough to pull down his pants and underwear while she did the same. She had to pull off her shoe and step out of her pants so she could get her legs far enough apart. “How are we going to do it?” He smiled and bit at his bottom lip. He shrugged out of his sweater, leaving on his tee shirt and lay it around her shoulders. He then lifted her up and leaned her back against the tree.
“Like this.” He leaned backwards enough to slide himself inside her, filling her with his erection. She gasped.
“Oh wow!” She said, he was deeper then he had ever been. He held her under her behind and moved himself in and out. Karen wrapped her arms around his neck and bent down for a kiss. She licked the insides of his mouth and played with his tongue as he fucked her against the tree. He went fast and pumped her hard until he came with such force that he almost lost his balance and pressed her hard against the tree.
“Oh Karen, oh God!” He moaned. Karen, suddenly aware of their surroundings checked for onlookers. Seeing none she kissed his forehead. Slowly he let her down and pulled himself out of her. They both dressed quickly. “Holy fuck, that was good!” He sighed and smoothed back his wayward curls. She smiled at him out of one side of her mouth. He slipped back into his sweater, now a little worse for the wear with leaves and tree bark embedded into the weave, picked up the backpack and slung it over his shoulder. When Karen was properly dressed he took her by the hand and they continued on their walk.
After a fine, filling meal at a downtown steak house, Josh and Karen headed back to her house where they showered and crawled into bed. They slipped a movie into the DVD player that Josh insisted they stop and rent and then cuddled under the covers to watch. It wasn’t long into the movie before Josh paused it and made love to Karen slowly and tenderly. His kisses were soft and loving, his touches, light and gentle accompanied by breathy sighs and moans of pleasure. Afterwards they snuggled up again, finished the movie and not long after, fell into slumber. Sunday morning dawned as bright oranges, yellows, and pinks colored the bedroom but Karen woke feeling blue. She pulled Josh’s arm around her tighter and curled into him. She breathed in his scent and studied his face, his eyes, his hair so that once he had gone as quickly as he’d come she would remember him just like this. His eyes fluttered open and he blinked a few times to clear his vision. Noticing Karen looking at him he smiled and kissed her.
“Good morning, angel.” He said softly. She smiled feebly, dispirited. He noticed something amiss immediately. “What’s up?” He asked and touched her cheek with a finger. “Did you get a bad phone call already today that I slept through?” She shook her head, a dull ache spread throughout her body. “Then what?” She sighed.
“Same old, same old.” He smiled sadly and kissed her nose.
“I know. Don’t think I’m not going through the same damn thing. And now the tables have turned. I have to go and you have to stay. This whole situation sucks.” Karen lay her head down on his chest and toyed with his chest hair. He lightly stroked her hair, eyes damp and foggy. “We’ve got to come up with something.” He sighed and she sniffled.
“I don’t know what.” She whispered. They were quiet for some time.
“You could always come and stay out by me.” He offered. She shook her head.
“That’s not going to work.” She said, her voiced choked with emotion.
“Why?” He traced the outline of her face with the tip of his finger.
“The kids.” She whispered. He nodded. Suddenly he felt a tear drip onto his chest and roll off his side.
“Karen,” He said turning her head towards him. She closed her eyes. “Honey, it’ll work. We’ll make it work. Don’t be sad.” He leaned down and kissed her eyelids. Her lower lip trembled and she tried to talk but realized her throat was tight and swallowed hard. She cleared her throat.
“I don’t know how many more times I can say goodbye to you.” He wrapped his arms tightly around her and squeezed her tightly to his chest.
“Shhhh …” He soothed as she cried silently. “I love you. We’ll make it work, we will. You’ll see.” After a few moments she calmed herself. He grabbed a tissue from the nightstand and handed it to her. She wiped her eyes and blew her nose. She looked at him with red, swollen eyes. He smiled. “Why don’t you bring the kids out next weekend?” She shook her head.
“I don’t want you paying …” He shushed her with a finger over her lips.
“Don’t even!” He said, his lips tightening into a thin line. “I already told you I would pay.” She made to open her mouth in protest and he held the finger up again. “Don’t!”
“Josh!” He pushed her down on the bed.
“Don’t argue with me, you won’t win. I want to see you, the kids want to see L.A. … it’s all good.” He leaned forward and kissed her lips warmly.
“But the cost …” She sighed. He sighed in response.
“You need not worry about that.” He said and then grinned foolishly. “Besides, you can pay me back with sex.” Karen giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck. He kissed her.
“Perhaps I could pay you in advance.” He nodded.
“Yes. But I do require one thing.” She smiled.
“What?”
“Growl for me.” She laughed, embarrassed.
“You’re silly!” She said. He raised his eyebrows at her, one at a time.
“Do it!” He ordered. She growled and bit at him. He closed his eyes and sighed. “Again.” He said softly. She did. He fell backwards on the bed. “Again.” He commanded. She got up, crawled on top of him and growled again. This growl was followed by more teeth snapping. He smiled out of one corner of his mouth. “More.” He whispered. She leaned down to his neck and growled then sunk her teeth into his skin. He groaned. “Oh, baby.” She licked and sucked on his neck, growling in between until he could stand no more and then he grabbed her by the shoulders and flipped her backwards onto her back. “My turn.” He said, sneered and growled at her. She giggled as he pawed at her like a lion. “Oh you laugh but when the hunter catches his prey, he EATS her!” He nibbled at her neck while she squealed and giggled then he positioned himself between her legs, spread them open and dipped his head to her. He took in her scent and felt shivers running like little ants marching up and down his spine. He licked her lightly and heard her gasp at the feeling of his tongue against her. Suddenly he plunged his tongue between her lips and flicked it against her. She cried out. He pulled back and did it again, this time running his tongue up and down her cleft.
“Josh!” Karen cried. “Oh God, what are you doing?” She writhed beneath him as he plunged into her again and wiggled his tongue back and forth. “Oh, God, Josh!” She groaned. He slid his tongue just inside and rubbed her with the underside of it. She sighed and held his head. “Right there, oh stay right …” She pressed backwards on the bed as her orgasm built with ferocity. Her heart began to pound and her thighs went numb. A warm feeling brewed in her belly and filtered downwards until it centered underneath his tongue. She closed her eyes tightly and came with such momentum that she saw stars under her lids. She groaned heavily. He moved up from between her legs and lay on top of her. “What the hell was that?” She asked. He grinned and reached down, guiding himself inside her. She squeaked when he slid himself all the way inside.
“That …” He said beginning his motions. “Was me dominating you babe. Proving to you who is the leader of the pack. The head lion, the king of the beasts!” She giggled and draped her arms around his neck and wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him in further.
“Okay, I give … you are the boss.” He smiled again and pumped against her hips.
“Don’t you forget it.” He said and leaned in for a kiss. He made love to her urgently, if not a little rough and when he climaxed it felt like it had started in his toes and spread up to his head. He moaned and collapsed on her.
“You are so heavy!” She said pushing at him. He ignored her and sighed heavily. “Josh!” She snapped pushing him up and off of her. He rolled over, one arm draped over his chest, the other above his head. His eyes were closed and he groaned.
“The king of the beasts is pooped.” He moaned. She giggled and headed off to the bathroom.
“Don’t poop on my bed, King.” She called as she headed off down the hall. He chuckled to himself and slipped on his jeans. He padded out to the kitchen and began making coffee. Karen joined him a few minutes later coming up behind him and slipping her arms around his waist. He turned around and enveloped her in his arms. The two spent the day together and at Josh’s request called her ex-husband and asked him to bring the kids home early. He agreed but brought them back over an hour later then he said he would. The kids came flying through the door at four. He stood at the door and peeked in. Karen stood in his way.
“So where’s this Josh guy the kids yakked about all fucking weekend long?” He asked, leaning on the door jamb and folding his arms.
“None of your business.” Karen stated, matter of fact.
“It is my business.” He said. “If he’s hanging around with my kids it’s most definitely my business.” Karen glared at him.
“Go fuck yourself.” She said and made to close the door. He pulled himself up from leaning on the door and walked away. She slammed it shut and went in to hug Carlie who she discovered had already found Josh and was chatting his ear off.
“I thought maybe we all could go out to eat.” He said to the kids. They yelped excitedly. Karen gathered everyone and they loaded into the van and went to Pizza Hut. After they got home Josh packed up his suitcase and brought it out to the rental car. He said his goodbyes to the kids, Carlie wrapping her arms around his neck and planting a kiss on his cheek. Karen walked him out to the car and leaned back against the driver’s side door. She pulled her sweater tightly around her. Josh leaned one hand on the car and loomed over her.
“I hate this.” She whispered. He leaned down and kissed her lightly.
“I know, I do too. But you’re coming out this weekend.” He said and pulled her into his arms. She nodded against his chest.
“If you insist.” She said. He squeezed her tightly.
“I do.” He glanced at his watch. “I have to go.” He said and pulled her in for a sensual kiss. “Oh shit.” He said as she pulled away. “Now I’ve got wood.” Karen giggled.
“It’ll gone by the time you get to the airport.”
“Not when you are in my mind like you are.” He said and kissed her again before sliding into the driver’s side of the car. Karen stood on the porch and watched him go. When he was out of sight she turned and went back into the house, closing and locking the door behind her.
Karen sighed and rolled her eyes at her mother’s complaints. She was used to listening to it but this time had no patience for it.
“How many Thanksgivings have I not spent with you?” She asked her mom.
“It’s not you, dear, it’s the kids.”
“Well thanks a lot.”
“You know what I mean.” Sighing, Karen tapped the end of the pen she held in her hand on the desk. She knew she shouldn’t have called her while she was at work but by the time she got home every day she got busy with other things and forgot all about it.
“Mom, I’m taking the kids to California and we’re driving there with Josh. It’s going to be something special for the kids. Josh has it planned out that we’re going to drive so that we can see the Badlands and Mount Rushmore …”
“Can’t you do that next summer when they are out of school? Why do you have to do it at Thanksgiving? It could be our last Holiday together.” Karen sat back gruffly on the chair and tossed the pen down onto her blotter.
“They could be going with their father for Thanksgiving, what would be the difference?” There was no answer on the other end. “Okay, I have to go because I can’t have this discussion with you here. Just know that we won’t be there this year for Thanksgiving.”
“I’ll tell your father.” Mom said.
“I’ll talk to you later.” Karen said and hung up. She leaned her elbows down on the desk and hugged her head with her hands. This whole plan was starting to give her a headache. She had taken off the last few Fridays in a row to fly to California to see Josh and now she was going to take off the week before Thanksgiving and the 5 of them were going to rent a van, drive to L.A. stopping to see several landmarks on the way. Her boss was “thinking” about whether or not she could take off and her ex was giving her grief. Now her parents were adding to it. Next she was going to have to notify 3 schools that the kids would be out the week before the holiday. She glanced up at the photo of her and Josh that adorned her desk and smiled. He was lucky he was worth all this trouble or she would have scrapped the plans by now. She was brought back by the sound of her boss calling to her from his office.
Karen sat alone at the dining table and sipped soup. She had some serious thinking to do and wasn’t looking forward to it. She needed to talk to Josh and he was at a benefit in New York. Michael called her into the office to explain to her that the company would need her the week before Thanksgiving, what with the holidays coming around so soon and couldn’t grant her time off. So now that meant the plans to drive to California had to be scrapped and Josh would once again bear the burden of flying them to L.A. She couldn’t have that. It was too much to worry about. Every time she flew out there it cost him almost a thousand dollars and with the kids it was more then that. A hopeless feeling washed over her and she sighed heavily. She wasn’t looking forward to having Thanksgiving dinner with his family anyway. She was nervous enough meeting his parents alone and now the idea that she would have the kids to worry about and the rest of his extended family to meet gave her panic attacks. A wave of fear washed over her and she shuddered. This relationship, she found, was way more work then she was used to. When Josh was gone and she was alone, like now, she wondered if it was worth it but when he called and told her how much he missed her and that he loved her or when they were finally in each other’s arms, lips pressed together, her body flooded with heat she decided it was worth it. Right now, it wasn’t worth it. It was too much stress and aggravation. She finished her soup, paid and walked back towards work. Why couldn’t she have fallen in love with someone average, someone with a regular 5 day-a-week job, someone her own age? She smiled as she pictured Josh in her mind. Sweet, young Josh. He was so handsome and charming. He was much different then someone else his age. He was patient and kind. He got along so well with the kids, much better then someone she might date who was older then her. She never imagined in a million years she would be dating someone young enough to be her son (almost) and be so comfortable with. It was still a strange feeling but one that gave her butterflies in her belly. Her cell phone went off in her purse and she fished it out. It was Josh.
“Are you still on lunch?” He asked.
“Walking back to work now.”
“Aren’t you freezing to death?” She laughed. It was a crisp, cool 40 degrees but it wasn’t freezing by any means.
“No. You are such a Californian.” He laughed softly.
“Guilty as charged. It’s freaking freezing here.”
“Too bad I’m not there I could warm you up.” He groaned.
“I know you could. Heard anything about the vacation yet?” It was Karen’s turn to groan as she felt a sinking feeling in her belly.
“Yeah, and it’s not good.”
“Oh no, what?”
“He isn’t letting me have the time off.” She approached the building and stopped before entering. Josh sighed on the other end.
“Oh man.” He said.
“We really have to talk about this honey. Can you talk when I get home or will you be busy?”
“I’ll make time, I don’t care what the hell I’m doing.” He sighed again. “Did he say why?”
“Yeah, he said I’ve been taking too much time off and that they will need me here during the holiday.” Josh growled.
“That makes me nuts, Karen.”
“I know, Josh, don’t sweat it right now. We’ll talk about it later.” She glanced at her watch and instantly became anxious. “I have to go.” They said their goodbyes and Karen went back to work, agitated.
The kids were in bed and Karen was checking her email when Josh finally called back.
“I can’t believe this.” Josh said as she answered.
“I know.” Karen said. “I’m as disgusted as you are.”
“No you aren’t, do you know how much I’ve been looking forward to this?” He sighed.
“And I’m not?” He sighed again, his disgust evident.
“We could always fly out there the day before. We’re flying home anyway.”
“But it’s been forever since I’ve driven across the country. The kids would love it.” He whined. Josh was very mature for his age, more then most but right at that moment he sounded like a teenager. Karen smiled.
“I know they would, there’s always the summer.” She offered. She heard something hit something else in the background and jumped. “What was that?” She asked.
“Nothing.” He said gruffly. “I can’t do anything over the summer, Karen, I’m going to be touring.” She sighed.
“Then I don’t know what to tell you, honey. I can’t go. At least not the weekend before. If you want us to come then it’ll have to be the day before Thanksgiving.”
“Your job really gets in the way of our relationship sometimes, you know that?” He said. Karen sat stunned. His words stung like a viper bite.
“Well your job gets in the way too, Josh. It’s not just mine.” She countered.
“I know it. But it’s my job that makes it so we can get together as often as we do.” She sat silent, not knowing quite what to say to him at that moment.
“Josh, I …” She began at the same time Josh said, “Karen, I’m sorry.” Karen smiled.
“It’s okay, honey. I know you’re disappointed. I am too.”
“More then you know.” He said, quietly. “I’m serious when I say you have got to quit that job.”
“Josh, I can’t quit my job. I have a family to take care of.”
“I will pay you what your job pays you.” Karen clicked her tongue, sighed, and frowned.
“You can’t do that. That’s just ridiculous! You are not going to pay me.”
“No, really, wait, Karen, let me finish! You could work for the Foundation and you will be on the payroll. You’ll have something to do, it’s not like I would be paying you for nothing!” He said excitedly. She rolled her eyes and sighed.
“Josh, honey …”
“Please, Karen, please?” He pleaded. She sat silent, thinking. “Sweetie? I really want to do this.” How could she say no to him? He was so sweet and he tugged at her heart strings.
“I’ll just tell him tomorrow that I’m going no matter what he says and see what happens. Maybe he’ll fire me and I can go on unemployment for a while.” She said with a laugh.
“Yes!” He said loudly. “Thank you!” She could hear him moving around in the hotel room. “We are going to have so much fun! Have you ever been to see the heads?” He asked. She frowned, confused as to what heads he was referring.
“Heads?” She asked.
“Yeah, you know, Mt. Rushmore?” She laughed at his description of the monument as ‘the heads.’
“No, Josh I haven’t. Believe it or not.”
“The Badlands?” He asked.
“Nope.”
“Yellowstone?” She giggled.
“No, no yellow stones either.” He laughed.
“I can’t wait!”
“How’s New York?” Karen asked, changing the subject thankfully.
“It’s cold.”
“The benefit?”
“Boring. Everything is boring without you. Quit your job right now and fly out here tomorrow.” He said quietly.
“Don’t I wish.”
“Me too.” He said. “I really miss you.” His voice deepened and her whole body responded with tingling nerves.
“Don’t do that.” She warned. He chuckled.
“Do what?” He said low again. She sucked in air through her teeth and felt goose bumps spread over her skin like a wild fire.
“You know what. You’re too far away to start that.”
“Listen …” He said and then she heard a strange noise. “Know what that is?” He asked. She smiled and covered her eyes with her hand.
“No, Josh I don’t. What is it?” She asked.
“It’s my zipper. And it wasn’t going up.” She giggled and flopped down onto her bed.
“You are so cute.”
“Oh no …” He said. “You are!”
“Noooo …” She said. “You are!” He was silent but there were noises in the background. “What are you doing?” She asked, knowing full well that he was probably undressing.
“I’m getting naked.” He whispered. She shuddered. It had been over a week since they had been together and even just the sound of his voice, getting deeper, more sensual over the phone had her wet and swollen between her legs.
“Oh Josh, baby.” She moaned. “I want you so bad.”
“Not as bad as I want you.” He said. “I’m so hard for you.” She closed her eyes and felt her nipples tighten underneath her shirt.
“God, I need it. Let me have it, Josh. Hurt me with that bad boy.” He gasped and she could hear him in the background, touching himself.
“Karen, I need you. You are always so wet for me and you taste so good. I want you here and now. If you were here I would be teasing you with my tongue …” She moaned again. He was so good with his tongue. From the moment he started to lick her it wasn’t long before she was wracked with spasms that spread throughout her being. Karen got up and closed her bedroom door and the two finished their conversation, together, yet far apart.
