“You’re giving it up for adoption.” Charlotte asked.
“No,” Julia replied.
“Then what…oh.” The reality hit Charlotte in the face. “You want an abortion?”
“Of course I don’t WANT an abortion!” Julia cried. “All I know is I don’t WANT this baby!”
“I hear you girl, but an abortion is something irreversible you have to think about this a great deal. What if you regret this in five years time? You cannot just go back and undo it.”
“I know that,” Julia’s eyes were red from crying and Charlotte felt as defeated as she did. Charlotte knew that if this was her decision, she had to accept it. She didn’t want to push her friend into keeping the baby when that wasn’t what she wanted.
“I’ll go with you then,” Charlotte said.
“Thank you,” Julia answered and the girls hugged each other.
“You’ll have to tell Howard though,” Charlotte tried again.
“No, I’m not telling him anything.”
Charlotte sighed and rubbed her eyes.
Julia had made up her mind, she was absolutely sure she didn’t want this baby. Not now. She made an appointment again with Dr. Robertson and told him her decision. Like Charlotte, Dr. Robertson made no attempts to change her mind but he had to be certain that Julia was sure about this decision. According to the law, two doctors had to approve the abortion and she had to wait six days because she might change her mind in those six days. Dr. Robertson explained the procedure which was not at all pleasant and Julia swallowed when Dr. Robertson told her, “This is a surgical procedure, you’re past the twelve week stage so we have to use a less common and more evasive procedure. It’s not pleasant, it won’t hurt though because you’ll have local anaesthetics. Have you got anybody to accompany you?” Julia nodded silently and she looked at all the information she got on paper and pamphlets. She felt scared and relieved at the same time, it was a weird situation to be in. She was going to do something that some people might never understand, she alone knew if this was the right thing for her to do. She did feel sadness, because she knew that one day, she’d want to have children and she also knew that at that point she’d think back to this moment and feel horrible. But she also felt that now was the time to be strong and push through. She made up her mind and that was it.

While Julia was at the doctor’s, Charlotte was wandering around the house without a specific goal. She was contemplating calling Dawn, but hesitated because it felt like betrayal to Julia. Charlotte worried about her friend and really thought that it was crucial that Howard knew what was going on. She also found it a bit strange to be calling a total stranger and forcing her worries on them. And then there was the tiny problem of what she was going to say. “Hi this is Charlotte, I stole your number but I need your help telling a top celebrity he knocked up my best friend?” She frowned and looked at her phone. It was as if it was calling out for her “Please…use me and call Dawn” of course that was utterly ridiculous but Charlotte’s hand itched. She lit a cigarette. Out of the corner of her eye she saw her phone.

Gary was sitting at the piano and was trying out some new melodies for a new song he’d written. He was singing and humming the new words softly like he always did when he’d written a new song, by singing them over and over again, rolling the words around his head and swirling the melody around his mouth the song became his song. It was the same process he’d used when he wrote A Million Love Songs and Back for Good and it always worked.
Dawn was looking at him from a small distance, she adored him. Seeing him work was like something magical, it was a privilege to watch him do his thing and she knew it. She was extremely attracted to the man she saw working so seriously and concentrated and she walked towards him.
“Hi love,” she smiled when Gary turned around, looking surprised at her sudden presence. He wrapped his arms around her small waist and she kissed him on his forehead.
“Were you sneaking up on me,” he teasingly said.
“No, I was watching the master at work,” Dawn grinned.
She took his face in her hands and looked into his eyes. “You make me the happiest woman on earth Gary.”
Gary smiled at her calling him ‘Gary’, all his friends and even his mum sometimes, called him Gaz or worse, but Dawn always said Gary. He never minded other people using nicknames, but he loved it that Dawn didn’t use his nicknames. He stood up and curled his arms around his petite girlfriend. He kissed her softly on her lips and slowly made his way down with his mouth. He placed butterfly kisses on her jaw, collarbone and neck and he soon saw Dawn close her eyes in pleasure. When he took her earlobe in his mouth he noticed her short intake of breath and he grinned. His mouth found hers again and with even more passion and fire he kissed her, he wanted to taste her completely, feel her completely and love her completely. Dawn had already began tugging on his shirt and with slightly shaking fingers she unbuttoned it from his chest and she ran her fingers over his smooth chest only to replace her fingers seconds later with her mouth.
“Gary,” Dawn said, her voice sounding raw and breathing slightly heavy, “I want you to..” Her sentence was interrupted by the ringing of her mobile phone.
“Pick up the phone?” Gary grinned, totally loosing the sexy lovemaking mood he had been in two seconds ago.
“Bleedin’ hell,” said Dawn and she reached for her phone. Gary swore it was the first and last time he’d ever heard her use words like that.

Howard was having a lazy day in bed. He’d hung out with Vicky all day and night and he was surprised at how good he felt. After years of travelling, performing, interviews, singing, dancing and lots of girls, doing normal people things was a breath of fresh air. Of course, he hadn’t told Vicky a thing about Julia, or about all the other girls, but something inside him had changed. He was looking forward to being a father, having a family and have a sort of normal, regular life. He’d gone out shopping yesterday with Vicky and he had enjoyed the simplicity of buying your own food, deciding what you wanted to eat for yourself and planning your own day. All in all, the end of Take That had been easier for Howard than anticipated. He did miss the boys though, he hadn’t talked to Jason in what seemed ages since Jason was travelling around the world with his backpack. Howard had told him he was off is head for travelling “backpack style”, with all the money they had they could easily afford travelling the world in proper style and sleep in the most beautiful hotels. But Jason had smiled wisely and had asked him why in God’s name would he want to sleep in a big, expensive hotel when he could also sleep in a little tent outside, and feel the nature around him like a soft blanket on his skin. Howard smiled, he loved Jason’s simplicity. He was just dozing off again when he was woken up by the ringing of his phone.
“Hello?”
“Howard?”
Howard recognised his voice immediately.
“Gaz, mate! How are you?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine…listen..I uh…really need to talk to you”.
“Sure, fine, whenever! Let’s plan a night then ay?”
“Howard, I need to talk to you right now. Can you come over?”
“I guess so..but what is going on?”
“I can’t tell you over the phone How, just get in the car and come to me place.”
“Okay,”
Gary hung up the phone and Howard looked bewildered at his mobile in his hand. He had never heard that tone in Gary’s voice. It was a sort of anger mixed with fear. He nearly fell out of bed as he grabbed the nearest clothes and put them on.
Three minutes later he was on his way over to Gary’s.

Charlotte’s eyes nearly fell out of her head when the taxi drove up the driveway to the massive mansion. She was getting even more nervous if it was physically possible. When she had picked up that phone to call Dawn she had never expected Dawn to say that a taxi was on its way to her house and pick Charlotte up so she’d be brought over to Dawn’s and Gary’s place. Dawn had immediately believed her and said she was glad Charlotte had called. Charlotte on the other hand, wasn’t so glad at all. She had just broken the most important law of the constitution of friendship, she had ratted out her friend. And on the way there, she’d broken some more friendship rules, she had taken Dawn’s number from a card that wasn’t hers and had lied about her reasons for going out. Charlotte sighed and rubbed her eyes. She only hoped this was the best decision.
The driveway seemed endless, and Charlotte felt as if she had left normal life behind the minute she had driven past the gate. Green fields of grass spread out before her and the soft, watery spring sun gave the whole thing a gentle orange glow. Trees gently waved their leaves in the wind as the taxi pulled up to a huge front door. When she got out, the car turned around and disappeared immediately. She walked up to the door and hesitated for a split second, what to do at a major rich persons house? D’you just ring the doorbell? That’s when she noticed there wasn’t even a doorbell. Charlotte swore under her breath and wanted to kick herself for forgetting her phone, if she had it here now she would’ve been able to call Dawn and tell her she was at her front door. As bizarre as that may have been, Charlotte felt even more out of place now that she stood here with not a person in sight. She rummaged through her bag and found a spare packet of Marlboro lights and she lit one cigarette. She inhaled deeply as she felt the nicotine slowing down her beating heart.

He drove his car carefully through Gary’s gates. This massive entrance always made him grin, it was so Gary to live in a place like this. It was so not his style. He liked the peace and the nature that surrounded it, but it was all too much, too posh.
As he arrived at the door and started reaching for his phone in his pocket he came to a sudden halt as he saw a dark haired woman sitting on the threshold in front of Gary’s house.
***
Charlotte saw the car approaching her and prayed silently that the person driving in it didn’t think she was a lunatic fan trying to set fire to the house. She also prayed that it wasn’t Gary inside that car. She had a hard time telling the guys apart as it was, but she was sure she’d recognise one of them, she was also pretty sure that Gary wasn’t going to be too pleased when finding a smoking woman on his threshold. She stood up and straightened her jacket and skirt. A dark haired man with a two day beard came out of the car. He was stunning. A shock went through Charlotte’s mind. This was the bastard that had gotten her best friend pregnant.
***
When he got out of the car. The woman threw her cigarette on the ground and blew the last bit of smoke out of her lungs with such force and violence that he thought she was going to blow him away. He walked up to her and looked at her angry face.
“Hello, may I ask what you are doing here?”
“You bloody well know what I am doing here.”
He raised his eyebrows and tried not to laugh, this was ridiculous he had never seen this woman in all his life.
“You may not know me, but you know Julia.”
“Erm, yes I know Julia, what about her?”
“Well, she’s pregnant with your baby and she having it taken away.”
Charlotte was shaking with anger. She was looking at this guys face and felt nothing but disgust. He had used her friend while he had a another girlfriend pregnant at home. She hated men like that. The look of disbelieve on his face was nearly funny but it enraged Charlotte even more.
“I don’t think that’s possible..” he stumbled as he tried to understand what he was being told.
“Of course it’s possible, even if it was only one night.” Charlotte replied sarcastically.
“Who are you? What are you suggesting? That I’ve slept with Julia? That’s ridiculous! I’ve never touched her!”
Charlotte was taken aback, she was sure it was him. Or was it?
A door opened behind her and the soft female voice of Dawn carried out onto the driveway.
“Jason? What are you doing here?”
Charlotte’s mouth fell open as she looked into the man’s big blue eyes with horror.
