Chloe remained sitting in the bathtub for what felt like hours. She had no urge to leave the comfort of the soothing water. Even the knock on the bathroom door didn’t faze her as she stared nowhere.
She vaguely heard the opening of the door and the heavy sigh from the doorway as Spencer walked into the bathroom. She flinched as he touched her head and backed away from him. “Don’t, Spencer. I’m still covered in blood. Don’t.” Before he could respond, she pulled her knees to her chest again and started to sob again. She feared what he thought of her, but most of all, she feared the love of the bloodlust within her.
Again, she flinched as he touched her, but his hand on her mouth stifled her protests. “Let me help you, Chloe. At least until I get the rest of the blood out of your hair.”
Chloe wrapped her arms back around her legs, knowing it would do little goof to protest. She felt his hands gently start to shampoo her hair, but didn’t move, tears still running down her face. She shivered slightly as he turned the water off, leaving her in the rapidly cooling air. He held his hand out to her, but she didn’t move. “Either you come out and get dressed so we can talk, or I crawl into the tub with you and we talk while you freeze. Naked.”
Chloe glared at Spencer as she shivered, finally taking the hand, and towel, he offered her. Wrapping the towel around herself, she walked past him into the bedroom in search of clothes. She needed to be normal for a moment, not the crying half-vampire she was at the current time.
She could feel his eyes on her as she moved around the room, pulling clothes out of drawers. She dropped the towel, no longer caring, and pulled on a pair of underwear and one of Frank’s old shirts. She couldn’t find shorts, but she didn’t really care. All she wanted to do was sleep.
She finally turned to him, but found him looking past her through her. She chose to ignore this, wiping some residual tears of her face, and placed a hand on her hip. “You wanted to talk, so talk.”
Spencer seemed to come to and shake himself to clear his thoughts. “What’s wrong with you, Chloe?”
“Nothing, Spencer. I’m perfectly alright.” Chloe moved to walk past him to at least get something to eat, and he grabbed her arm. “Let go, Spencer. I’m not in the mood.”
His grip tightened on her arm. “Not until you tell me what’s wrong, Chloe? One minute you’re ecstatic about killing half a dozen trolls in a matter of minutes. The next, I find you crying in a bathtub still covered in blood. That’s not alright. What’s wrong?”
Chloe tried to yank her arm, but he only held her harder, showing her a strength she didn’t think he could possess. She yanked again and cried out at the grip on her arm. She felt the tears well in her eyes, but it wasn’t because of the pain. “I’m a monster! OK? Is that what you wanted to hear? I know I’m not some perfect little angel, I never will be.”
Spencer released her arm as she spoke and she slid to the floor, pulling her knees up to her chest and burying her face into her knees. He sighed and knelt beside her, wrapping his arms around her loosely. “It’s alright, Chloe. We aren’t all angels. No one is really an angel. Everyone has their secrets.”
She moved away from him, standing quickly. “Yeah, right, like you have a secret. Your biggest secret is that you can see the future when you stare at people long enough. How is that anything like me?”
“You don’t know anything about me, Chloe.” Anger flared in his voice, but he had no idea who he was dealing with.
“And you have no idea who YOU’RE dealing with, Spencer. So keep the fuck away from me and maybe I’ll let you live to see tomorrow.”
Spencer grabbed her arm again as she tried to leave and she swung around, hitting him in the jaw and knocking him on his ass. She smirked at him and walked into the kitchen, leaving him where he sat. Yet he didn’t stay there long, getting up and spinning her around with a firm hand on her arm. He ducked as she swung another punch, hitting her instead.
She went back against the counter in the kitchen, licking the blood at the corner of her mouth. That little bit of blood was all she needed for her eyes to bleed to green. She moved towards him and threw another punch, taking one herself in the stomach. Her kick hit home and he was knocked against the back wall.
She stood there a moment, waiting for him to get up, but he didn’t. She took a deep breath and was about to go check on him when he came flying at her, faster than she had though possible. He pinned her to the wall and she gasped as she saw the small horns coming out of his forehead.
“You’re a demon!”
“I told you that you didn’t know me. Look what you had to do!” Spencer shoved her hands harder against the wall, shaking his head. “Now someone will have to bleed for me to go back to normal.”
Chloe braced herself against the wall, kicking him in the chest. It was a big mistake. He held her tighter before slamming her hard into the wall. Her head swam, but she had little time to think as his lips met hers. She was confused, unknowing of what was going on, until she felt his hands on her undergarments.
She started to struggle again, but he only got more excited. She looked into his eyes, but didn’t seem him. She couldn’t think of anything to do. Violence seemed to excite the demon more, so therefore, she wouldn’t be violent.
With this new thought in mind, she moved her hips away from him as he started to pull her underwear down. He didn’t seem to register anything. He moved to rip her shirt and she closed her eyes, using her telekinesis to remove the shirt before he could get to it. This seemed to register in him, and she fought a smile at the confusion on his face.
Naked and pinned to a wall, she didn’t want to do anything too sudden for fear that he would harm her beyond repair, so she merely looked at him, a type of longing in her eyes. She was hoping he would see it as a longing for him and not what it was, a longing to get loose. He seemed to be even more confused by this look, and his hands slackened, giving her the moment she needed to get free.
She moved her hands from between his in an instant, at the same time kicking out with her feet and sending him flying across the room. He went into the couch, overturning it. She felt her eyes go completely green, felt her fangs elongate, and knew that if he came at her again, his blood would be shed.
She tried to move as he came toward her, blood flowing down a wound in his head from hitting the table by the couch, but she was too slow, only getting a face full of feral demon blood. She licked her lips and gasped at the taste, feeling the same pleasure she felt every time blood touched her mouth rush through her. She let the vampire in her have control and found she was kissing him, fangs piercing his lips as she deepened the kiss. He pulled away from her, backing up like she had hit him again, but she wasn’t going to back down until Spencer was back and the demon was gone.
She stalked toward him, naked as the day she was born, and found the fear in the demon thrilling. She ran her hand between her breasts, wiping some stray blood onto her fingers, raising it to her lips. She slid her finger seductively into her mouth and jumped at the demon as he hit the overturned couch. Straddling him, she felt him struggle against the new strength she found in her hands.
His face pale and the horns receded into his forehead, leaving him as he had been when he found her in the shower earlier. He looked around in confusion and then up at the naked Chloe, covering in demon blood. “What happened, Chloe?”
Chloe sighed and slid off him, walking into the bathroom and turning on the water. She left him in the living room to contemplate what had just happened. She knew enough about demons to know that when in one form, they would eventually remember what the other had done.
Stepping out of the shower, she flinched as she caught sight of herself in the mirror. Bruises covered her back where he had slung her into the wall and he lip was already swollen from the first punch he had thrown at her. She flinched as he tongue touched the cut on her lip and she shook her head, heading into the bedroom to get her clothes back on. She stopped at what she found in the bedroom, horrified beyond all imaginings.
Spencer sat on the bed with blood running from his head, covering the bedcovers and the floor in front of him. Chloe ran to him as he looked up at her, tears in his eyes. “Spencer, what happened?”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you, Chloe. God! I’m so sorry! Could you ever forgive me?”
He looked so hurt, she sighed and picked up a towel off the ground, holding it to his bleeding head. “I know it wasn’t you, Spencer. It’s alright. I meant what happened to your head?”
“It’s left over from when I hit the table. The demon part of me suppresses the human in me and the bleeding quickened as soon as the demon was gone.” He moved to take the towel from her and stopped, realizing she was naked. “You’re not wearing any clothes.”
Chloe looked down and shrugged. “Do you have a problem with that?”
“No, I just thought you might.”
“Actually, I don’t know why, but I find it comfortable to be around you naked. Oh well. Let’s stop that bleeding.” She licked her finger and pulled the towel from his head, running the wet finger over his wound. She smiled as it healed, barely leaving a small scar. “There. How does that feel?”
Chloe gasped and gave a little squeal as he grabbed her around the waist and moved to pin her onto the bed. She glared at him, but felt his lips gently on her lips. She was afraid of what to think, but found herself kissing him back, her arms going around his neck as she deepened the kiss.
She was the first to pull back, smiling. “No, Spencer. As much as I want to, I really need some sleep. Sleep and nothing else.”
Spencer nodded and slipped off Chloe, grabbing her clothes off the ground and handing them to her. “We can crash in my bed since I seemed to have gotten blood all over yours. And I just mean share the bed, I mean nothing else.”
Chloe sighed and slipped her underwear and shirt back on, taking his outstretched hand and allowing him to pull her towards his room. Hours later, as she was lying in the warmth of his arms, that she began to think about what the hell she was going to do with him.
