Aurora’s surprise departure left most people stunned, especially her older brothers, while their parents knew she was going to go all along, acted like as if nothing happened.
“Mom…what’s going on? Where has she gone to?” Gerard asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
“Oh…she has to go over to Cassie’s, for a sleepover…plus…they have a major project to do together.” Donna replied.
“Cassie’s place for a sleepover? On my birthday?” Gerard stated in a shock.
“But she’s my sister. She’s supposed to stay and celebrate. Why did she walk out all of a sudden?” Gerard continued, surprised at the fact his sister had just walked out of his 18th birthday party.
“Think about it…son. She did stay for at least an hour and a half, and all she did was standing in a corner, with no one her own peers to talk to, and you were too pre-occupied, you had all your friends with you.” Donald stated gently.
Gerard sighed, ran his hand through his hair.
“How long will she be away for?” Gerard asked.
“She will be away for a couple of days. She will be back on Sunday.” Donna replied.
“Oh…okay…”
The 18th birthday party ended earlier than originally planned, Gerard didn’t exactly know why he ended his special party early, but he knows he felt upset and betrayed by his beloved sister, as she walked out of his important 18th birthday. In fact he stayed up all night thinking about it, what his parents said made sense to him, but it still doesn’t justify that she had walked out on him. She loves him, doesn’t she? If she really loves her big brother, she wouldn’t have left, that’s what Gerard kept thinking about.
Gerard got downstairs on Saturday morning, into the kitchen and put the coffee machine on; he leaned against the fridge, rubbing his eyes off sleepiness.
“Not much sleep?” Mikey asked, standing on the other side of the kitchen.
Gerard smiled weakly at his younger brother.
“Hey…Mikey…No, not much sleep.” Gerard replied, and yawned.
“Please don’t tell me you stayed up all night thinking and getting upset about it all.” Mikey said, looking at him with concern.
“I’m fine.” Gerard stated.
“No you are not fine. You didn’t get much sleep last night. This doesn’t usually happen to you!” Mikey stated.
“I know…But she made me couldn’t sleep! She walked out on me!” Gerard stated back.
Mikey frowned.
“You are upset with Aurora? She’s our sister; she’s not our puppy or puppet! Plus… she’s 13, she’s mature and she’s responsible enough for herself!” Mikey stated firmly.
With that, Gerard walked out of the kitchen drinking his mug of coffee, without saying anything. Mikey left him alone in his room. By late afternoon, Aurora came back later in a rush to get something she had forgotten to take with her the previous night.
“Hey…mom…I need to come over to get something that I forgot…” Aurora stated in a rush.
“OK…how was the sleepover at Cassie’s?” Donna asked, smiling.
“Great!!! It was so fun!!!”
She then hurried upstairs to her room to get her stuff. Gerard heard her coming back, left his room and walked over to hers. Through the open doorway, he looked through to see that she has her back to the doorway. Her bedroom door slammed shut and the lock turned. She turned round to find her older brother---Gerard with his back against the door, looking at her intently.
“Oh…hey…Gee…I am so sorry that I walked out on you last night. But I’m in a rush right now, can we please talk later?” Aurora stated.
Gerard smirked.
“Oh…good…now…you are sorry. You shouldn’t have walked out on me last night, and we need to talk right now.” Gerard stated seriously.
“What the hell is it all about?” Aurora asked.
“Tell me why did you walked out on me last night. The REAL reason! You’ve planned it beforehand to walk out on me.” Gerard replied.
“I didn’t plan it at all! Cassie invited me over for a sleepover and I accepted the invitation ages ago.” Aurora said.
“Tell me the real reason; I know it’s not because of the sleepover planned. Tell me what was really going through your mind when you walked out on me.” Gerard stated.
After several more prodding and questions from him, she gave in.
“Fine…you really want to know the real reason?” Aurora asked, sighing.
“Yes!”
“You are not going to like it…” Aurora stated.
“So what? I didn’t like it from the beginning when you walked out on me.”
Aurora sighed, while he waited patiently.
“Fine…it’s Lacey…”
“Wait…wait…you mean my girlfriend---Lacey?”
Aurora rolled her eyes and frowned.
“Yes! Miss. Lacey Buchanan. Who else could I have meant?” Aurora stated, on the edge of losing her patience.
“You don’t like her?”
“No…I don’t, to be honest with you. Why on earth would I like that slut? Just because she’s going out with my brother?”
Gerard now is starting to get annoyed and…angry.
“Hey! Don’t call my girlfriend that!”
“Well…she is! She is one! I thought I will never tell you this, but me and my other friends caught her making out with Jake Manok! She was just using you all along! We all overheard her talking!” Aurora yelled.
“I don’t believe you! You are lying!”
This talk is now becoming an argument, and they both know it.
“I’m not! I’m your sister, I cannot believe it, and you think I’m lying?”
“Of course…Lacey had been really committing to our relationship.”
Aurora laughed sarcastically.
“Oh…wow…I’d love to see her do that.”
“What do you mean by that?” Gerard asked.
“My dear bro…you have no idea…do you? You are practically a fool in love. She’s only using you.” Aurora replied.
Gerard snorted.
“Huh…you know what?”
“What?”
“You are just jealous.”
“Jealous of what? Jealous of Lacey being a total slut?”
“Jealous that I have her, I rarely spend time with you anymore, and I rarely pay attention to you anymore. That we rarely spend time together.”
Aurora smiled coldly and sarcastically.
“You are wrong, so wrong. I was only looking out for you. Do you seriously think I care about whether we spend time together anymore, or that I don’t get attention anymore?” Aurora asked, smiling coolly at him.
His eyes went wide at what she had just said.
“I don’t need you to look out for me, I’m 18. I can be responsible for myself.” Gerard stated angrily.
“Fine…I will leave you alone from now on.” Aurora said in a loud voice.
“Thank you…”
After a few seconds of silence…
“Are you serious? About what you said that you don’t care about that we don’t spend much time together anymore?” Gerard asked, on the edge of crying.
“Yes…I’m serious. I don’t care.” Aurora replied, looking straight at him.
“I will never believe anything you say again, and I don’t need you to look out for me! Got that? I cannot believe I have you as my sister…god…” Gerard stated angrily and without thinking.
With that, Gerard stormed out of her room, making sure that he had indeed slammed the door loudly. He left Aurora alone, and she burst into tears soon afterward, crying into her pillow.
