All through the resulting chaos that ensued after the death of Ivy and one of the twins, Becca was almost a zombie. She went about the motions of everything, packing up all the stuff that Patrick and she would need in Las Vegas while they were headed down for the finishing work on the CD. There had been troubles with Ivy’s family shortly after the funeral, but for the most part, Becca had tried to avoid all the drama surrounding her friend’s death. Of course she did her best to keep her brother from obsessing over it all, but there was only so much that she could do, and in the end, she agreed with Patrick. Vegas would be a good escape for all of them. And she fully intended on getting on with her life. Ivy hated funerals and the weepy depression that always ensued. So Becca was doing her best to go with her friend’s philosophy that just because someone died that it was no reason to act like the dead themselves. So that’s what she did.
Becca woke up that morning and realized that it was only two days until her flight out to Las Vegas. The house would be shut up for the six months that they were to be in Vegas, with both Patrick’s and her families checking in and house-sitting. Becca felt bad when she realized how much that Patrick had already packed up and gotten ready for the move without her help while she had been in her almost zombified state. And so she had insisted that he take the entire day to himself while she finished packing up the stuff they were planning on taking with them to Vegas.
Becca was wandering through the house in an old pair of jeans with one of her favorite t-shirts, not expecting anyone to show up and so thus not bothering with any sort of appearance thoughts. But as always is bound to happen, Becca had just gotten an old bandana tied around her head to keep her hair from getting too dirty while climbing around in the attic, the doorbell rang.
After climbing back down from the top of the attic stairs, Becca rolled her eyes at the almost constant ring of the doorbell. That could only be one person. And as soon as she got closer to the door, she shook her head as there was also a rhythm being knocked on the door. “Alright Spencer, I’m coming already! You don’t have to beat down my door!” Of course the knocking didn’t stop, it merely picked up pace and volume. “You can always tell when there’s a drummer knocking at your door ...”
Becca shook her head with a laugh as she opened the door to see Spencer standing on the porch with a bag of fast food in one hand and a stack of moving boxes beside him, while wearing a roll of packing tape around his other arm. “Somebody order a sexy handy man for packing help? I come bearing tape and food!” Spencer’s bright grin made Becca dissolve into a fit of giggles. She shook her head before moving out of the way to let Spencer in.
“Well, since you brought food ...” Becca giggled as she moved to help Spencer bring everything into the house. She wasn’t going to turn away free help and food, even if Spencer would likely be very little help and a lot of distraction. But that was one of the things that made him one of her best friends.
Spencer gave Becca an overdramatic pout before shaking his head. “If you’re going to act like that, perhaps I won’t share the food with you. And to think, I even stopped and picked up the veggie burgers especially for you. Now I’ll just have to take them back home for Brendon. Provided he isn’t out with Cat again. Those two are thick as thieves. I swear, if Cat wasn’t so hopelessly mad about Ryan I might be jealous.”
Becca laughed as Spencer said this. She was sure that there wasn’t a single jealous bone in Spencer’s body, so for him to even suggest such a thing was amusing to say the least. “Spencer, has anyone ever told you that you’re insane?”
Spencer grinned brightly as he was busy taking the food out of the fast food bag and setting it out on the table. “As a matter of fact, yes. You do so on a regular basis, Becs. Why else would I keep you around?”
Becca stuck her tongue out at Spencer as she went to the refrigerator to get drinks for both herself and Spencer so they could eat before getting back to the packing that she still had to do. Hopefully with the extra help, everything would be finished up today, given that the flight carrying them out to Las Vegas for the next six months was tomorrow.

Rebecca walked out of the airport with a small frown on her face. This was winter weather? Surely not. She shrugged out of her jacket and shook her head. The temperature change was going to take some serious getting used to. Of course she had been out of Chicago before, but the severe difference in temperature just in the space of one day was likely to make her sick. Back in Chicago she had been forced to wear her big winter coat as it was snowing again, while here it was weather that would normally be summer weather at best.
Brendon smiled brightly as he inhaled deeply. “Ah, home. Where winter doesn’t give you frostbite walking around your own house.” He noticed Becca’s frown and laughed. “Oh come on, Becca. It’s wonderful. No snow! And the coldest it gets might need a hoodie. Nothing worse. I love it.”
Becca shook her head, muttering under her breath how Brendon was insane to love it here. Besides, what was she going to do when summer rolled around? That was not going to be a fun experience. Because with it this warm during the winter, she hated to even think about how hot it would get in the summer.
“Becca don’t worry about the weather. You’ll get used to it. And besides, sometimes it’s actually pretty good not to have to worry with snow or ice freezing up everything. Of course we instead have to worry about making sure that you get enough fluids in your system, but it’s a fair trade I think.” Cat gave Becca’s hand a light squeeze seeing the frown on her friend’s face.
Becca shook her head as everyone seemed to insist on reassuring her about the weather and such. “Oh shove it you guys. Besides, I’m not a complete homebody. I have been outside of Chicago. It’s just that I like the snow. And it’s a bit of shock to have it this warm here while it was just snowing back home. I’ll be fine, just give me a little while to adjust.”
Patrick laughed as he wrapped his arm around Becca’s waist pulling the suitcase they had brought with them on the flight rather than have shipped ahead. They all started for the van that they were all going to use to get to the subdivision where most of them now lived (as Patrick had managed to get a house in the neighborhood as well by some miracle).
It didn’t take them long to get to the subdivision and then it was there that they split off, each going to their own respective houses with promises of getting together as soon as they possibly could. Of course Patrick and Becca would be a little later in getting together than the rest of them, since they still had to move in and get everything settled, but of course there was always the offers for help in that area of the entire situation.
