It was about 11 p.m. by the time Vladimir returned. Renae was already in her pyjamas, lying in their bed curled up in a ball, her hand resting on her stomach. Her face was stained with tears. The bedroom door opened. Vladimir walked into the room. His face was stained with tears as well. In his hand was a bouquet of roses. She pulled the covers over her head and turned over onto her side.
“Please don’t turn away from me…” he begged, “I know I have done horrible thing, but please don’t turn away from me. Talk to me, my love.” She pulled the covers off, turned around, and found him kneeling next to the bed, gazing at her and waiting for a response.
“Vladimir, how could you do this to me?” It was all she could manage to stammer out. He reached out and touched her cheek.
“I can’t say…please forgive me…please forgive me…I never do that to you again…” She sat up and he offered the roses to her. He wrapped her in his arms, squeezing her tightly.
“Baby…how can I trust you now?”
“Just trust me…I don’t hurt you anymore…my heart is broke…”
“Vladimir…I am so scared…”
“Baby I will prove it to you…just stay with me…stay with me…please, stay with me…” She rested the roses on the bed and he laid his hand on her stomach.
“We will now have a family. I have to find new job. I do not want to be away from you anymore.” He pulled back and smiled at her and slowly he kissed her.
“Vladimir, I want to sleep. It has been a hard day.” He nodded and started to get changed. When he was finished he laid down next to her on his side, looking at her with a look of pure love in his eyes as he ran his fingers over her arms and then down her waist, her hip, and her leg.
“Mother of my child…love of my life…” He pulled her close to him. “Goodnight.”
