Kelly frowned as she walked into her dressing room, "Hey Jeff."
"Wow. I used to get a hug whenever you 'd see me. Now all I get's a hey?" her manager smiled.
Kelly gave him a quick hug before sitting in the make up chair, "Sorry, just have a lot going on. Please tell me you come baring good news."
"Listen kiddo. Things are getting tough in there."
"In where?"
"The board room."
"You know, maybe I should just talk to Clive myself. Enough of all this my people talking to his people mess."
"I don't think that's a good idea," Jeff shook his head. "Trust me, I know how these things work."
Kelly nodded, "So that's where you've been?"
"Yea, why?"
"I don't know," she shrugged. "It used to be like I couldn't get rid of you, now it's been nearly a month since I've seen you."
"Miss me?"
"I miss my manager there telling me I'm doing the right thing, yea."
"KC, I'm just looking out for you," he assured. "You know that, right?"
"Yea," she replied after a moment's hesitation. She looked up as the door opened, thankful for the interruption. "Hey."
"Ready to look like a rock star?" Ashley asked.
Kelly laughed softly.
"Well, I better get going," Jeff stood. "You know, people to see, money to make," he winked.
Kelly offered a forced smile as he walked out.
"Wow," Ashley closed the door. "And next time I say a guy is a slime ball when I meet him, will you believe me?"
"He's not a slime ball," Kelly rolled her eyes. "He's really good at what he does."
"And what is that? Working you past the point of exhaustion, so he could make more money, not to mention weasel his way into getting executive producer credits on your album, all so, what? He can further his own career?"
"Ash, he's been there with me every step of the way on this album, he deserves it. And so what if he's furthering his own career? That's all anybody's trying to do, right? That's what I'm trying to do."
"Yea, but not at the expense of others."
Kelly frowned, "I do hate the way he calls me 'kiddo'."
Ashley smiled softly as she stood in front of her, make up brush in hand, "I'm sorry if I'm hard on the guy, but I can't help it. I just keep remembering how sick you had gotten for your hazel eyes tour, and then how just completely worn down you were for your last tour--remember that one? The one that you didn't even know about until it was too late to go back on?"
Kelly's frown deepened.
"I'm just being a protective best friend, that's all," Ashley sighed. "Someone's gotta look out for you in all this."
"I know. Thanks, Ash."
"No problem. Now what are we doing, again?"
"Press conference for Crossroads."
"Is that what you're wearing?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Um...no?"
"Good answer," Ashley nodded.

Kate walked into the dressing room to find Kelly standing there in a short vintage dress, the top half of which was pushed down around her waist, leaving her there in just a bra as Ashley hurried about, cursing up a storm. "Shit, I'm sorry," she turned to go, her face bright red.
Kelly laughed, waving her off, "No, it's fine. Take a seat. We're just having a minor situation."
"Minor?" Ashley's voice squeaked. "Minor? You call this a minor situation?"
Kelly shrugged as she adjusted the bottom half of the dress, making sure she was covered, "So where's Jill?"
"Bathroom," Kate replied, still not looking at her.
"Hun," Kelly laughed. "It's fine. I'm used to it. I've done so many fittings, I have no problem standing there half nekked while people run about. You missed it. Two seconds earlier, and I wouldn't have even had a bra on."
"S-so what's the problem?" she asked, finally meeting her eye.
Kelly smiled, causing her to smile back.
"The problem is," Ashley fussed. "That the damn dress is vintage."
"Ok?" Kate turned to her, confused.
"Vintage...as in old..."
"It's falling apart," Kelly cut in. "And I don't think CMT would want a remake of the Superbowl halftime show on stage at the Ryman."
Kate laughed, "Yea, that could be a problem."
"No, that's not the problem," Ashley shook her head. "The problem is the show is in a couple of hours, and Kelly has nothing to wear."
"I have plenty to wear," Kelly countered.
"You're not wearing black pants. You wear that to everything."
"Fine. I'll just go out like this. I'm sure I'll make all the best dressed lists."
Ashley narrowed her eyes at her.
Kate giggled as she watched the two best friends.
"Fine," Ashley sighed.
"Black shirt," Kelly smiled.
"Grey."
"Fine, then black vest."
"Deal," Ashley nodded, looking at her the time on her phone. "You have forty-five minutes. I'll cover for you."
Kelly nodded, grabbing her t-shirt off the counter and tugging it on before slipping on her jeans as well. She shrugged out of the dress.
"Kate," Ashley turned to her. "Go with her. Make sure she gets what we agreed on."
"Where're we going?" Kate asked.
"Reba's house," Kelly smiled.
"I'll tell Jill where you went," Ashley assured. "Just don't let her talk you into letting her wear all black. She'll try, trust me."
"Alright," Kate laughed softly, following Kelly out the dressing room.

"I feel like I'm doing something illegal," Kate whispered as she stayed right behind Kelly while they walked through the large house.
Kelly laughed, "Relax. Reba was nice enough to let me and Jay and Ashley stay here while we're in Nashville because she knows how much I hate hotels."
"Must be pretty cool to be friends with Reba McEntire."
"It's awesome," Kelly grinned as she opened the door to a spare bedroom. "Here we go. Now what'd Ashley say?"
"Black pants. Grey Shirt. Black vest," Kate replied.
"You sure it wasn't a black shirt?" Kelly asked.
"I'm sure," she nodded, giggling.
"Hm...that's just not like her. Ashley's normally all about the all black."
"Kelly...grey shirt."
"Fine," she sighed playfully, rolling her eyes as she dug through a large suitcase.
"Have enough clothes in there?" Kate teased.
"We came straight here from North Carolina," Kelly reminded. "I needed to pack enough for everything, and I hate doing laundry."
"So, I see."
Kelly looked at the clock on the wall, "Shoot. We're so gonna be late. I'm gonna go change real quick, that way I don't have to do it when we get there. Wait five minutes?"
"Not like I can go anywhere," Kate smiled.
"True," Kelly laughed, nodding. "Be right back."
++++++++
"Perfect," Ashley smiled as the two singers hurried back into the dressing room. "She tried to get you to agree to all black?"
"Not at all," Kate shook her head.
"You're lying for her?"
"Totally," she grinned.
Kelly hit her arm, "So much for sticking together."
Kate raised an eyebrow, "When did we decide on that?"
"Hopeless," Kelly rolled her eyes as she walked to the makeup chair, sitting down. "Ok hot stuff, do your magic and get it over with."
Ashley laughed, opening her makeup bag.
"So hun, when do you want to meet Reba?"
Ashley looked over Kelly's shoulder while she applied the shorter girl's foundation, "Kate, she's talking to you."
"Oh," Kate looked up from where she sat on the couch. "Whenever. Not like I'm specific about the conditions when it comes to meeting Reba McEntire."
Kelly laughed, "True. So, where's Jill?"
Ashley looked around the room, "You know, I have no clue."
"She never came back from the bathroom?"
"Not surprising," Kate admitted. "She'll never go up to someone she doesn't know, and she didn't know where the dressing room was, so she's probably walking around lost."
"That happens a lot?" Kelly asked with an amused laugh.
"All the time."
"That's awesome." she giggled.
