When Raven woke up she was feeling a hundred times better; she was still vaguely achy but the sharp pains were gone. She figured she was in Matt’s bunk because the air smelled heavily of incense and cologne. Not that she was complaining. Slowly she sat up just to make certain her stomach wasn’t still rebelling. There was an echo of ache in her back and legs but she easily ignored it.
“Guys?” she called out softly. She figured one of them had to be nearby, if she said she had a headache they fussed over her like a bunch of mother hens, they sure as hell weren’t going to leave her alone with the fit she just had. Right on cue, Jimmy came in from the back lounge. As soon as he caught site of her the troubled look on his face disappeared, like the wind blowing away the dark clouds of a storm. “Hey baby, are you feelin’ better?” he asked kneeling next to her. She smiled and nodded, “Yeah, much.”
The tension left his shoulders and he got up and sat on the bunk next to her, without thinking she cuddled up closer to him. His skin was warm and firm against her arm. The sensation sent a pleasant tingling through her.
“I don’t know what happened. I’ve never been that sick before.” Raven shuddered. Jimmy’s cheeks colored, “Uhm, yeah…uh, Raven you’re a…” he ran a hand through his hair, “you’re on your period.” He mumbled. Raven stared at him for a moment, waiting for the punch line, but none came. “What?”
Jimmy’s face reddened even more, “Do I have to say it again?”
They were quiet for a moment until Raven finally shook herself, “This is really embarrassing.” She said evenly. Jimmy snorted and hid his face in his hands and laughed harder. In only a few seconds they were in hysterics and the other three members of the band came into the bunk section to see if anything was wrong. Raven waved their concerns off, “Nothing, just really, really embarrassed.” She giggled.
She wasn’t supposed to ignore him. He had made that very clear. But here he was, for the fourth time that day, listening to her voicemail. He tried not to let his temper get the best of him but he could feel his temperature rising as her pre-recorded cheerful voice told him to leave a quick message and his number.
After she had, unthinkably hung up on him, he had thrown a fit. The smashed TV and mirrors were a testament to his wrath. Growling he ended the call and threw the phone on the bed. If she wouldn’t answer the phone he would just have to talk to her in person.
A week later Raven decided that, if she could do it discreetly, she would get a picture of Jimmy half-naked sitting at his drum kit glistening with sweat and blow it up to fill a wall. His longish hair stuck to the nape of his neck and a few strands clung to the side of his face; he was damn sexy like that.
A high pitched squeal from the crowd pulled her attention to the front of the stage again, Matt was taking off his shirt. Attention whore, she thought amusedly. Not that she minded, he could run around on stage naked and she would be happy as a clam in mud. There was another picture she wanted.
As she sidled up next to Brian for a short duet she kept watch on Matt out the corner of her eye. She wished she could still watch Jimmy too, but it would be just a little obvious if she stared backstage for the entire show. She would have her chance though to watch him get changed on the bus which put a happy smile on her face.
Raven’s jeans hugged her slender legs and tight butt like a second skin. Jimmy had never been happier to be in the back. He shifted around a little, his own tight jeans were becoming extremely uncomfortable. Tonight she was wearing a deathbat spaghetti strap and the lights reflected off her ivory skin like glass. She jumped up on one of the high risers and did a little shake and Jimmy knew he would have to do something before the next song started.
The dreams were the worst, mostly because he always woke up right in the middle stifling a moan, her name right on the tip of his tongue. Fucking the mattress wasn’t doing anything to alleviate the growing lust that spawned more and more graphic fantasies. But the desire wasn’t all he was feeling, it was a big part yes, but underneath Raven’s lithe body was Zacky’s personality.
He’d always loved Zacky like a brother; he was funny, a bit of a dork, and was a guy you could count on to have your back. As a guy he had been the ideal friend, as a chick, he was the ideal woman. At least in Jimmy’s mind she was. He was in love with one of his best friends.
After the show the band headed outside to meet the fans and sign autographs. Raven was almost immediately surrounded by a crowd of adoring boys, still something she was getting used to. The guys stayed close to her, if any of the boys got a little too touchy-feely she need only call and they would come down on him like the wrath of the gods.
One such guy grabbed her upper arm and spun her around. Her temper flared and she readied to either crack the guy in the head or call Matt over to deal with him.
It was the creepoid again. His brown eyes were angry and all of her gumption deserted her. Cold fear sneaked through her and chilled her fingers, her voice faded and she stared at him; a rabbit caught in the eyes of a fox.
“You Do Not Ignore Me!” He hissed. A small tremor rippled through her, violence was radiating from him. She had to get away from him somehow, hit him or say something, call for her friends, anything. But she stayed rigid just staring at him, waiting for whatever would come next.
He slapped a parody of a smile on his face, “No worries boys, we just need her for some photos.” Before any of the surrounding fans could call his bluff he dragged her away from safety and into the shadows around the stage.
Once they were out of earshot and sight he dropped the cheerful façade and his grip became painful, “You’ve not pleased me, Raven,” he sneered, he was leading her to a gray Toyota, “but you’ll make up for that.” His lips curled up into a frightening smirk. She realized when he remotely unlocked the truck that she wasn’t resisting, she was following him like a well trained dog.
Her terror turned to anger, mostly at herself for not fighting, and she ripped her arm out of his grasp. The man turned on her, his eyes glittering with fury and he swung at her. Ducking the furious hit she retaliated with her own hit and got him square in the stomach. The breath went out of him and he sank to the ground coughing. Not bothering to see how long her punch would keep him down she ran back to her friends.
Back on the bus Raven was curled up in her bunk thinking over the encounter with the strange and terrifying man. She was certain she had never seen him before the night nearly two weeks ago. As his angry words and lethal promise repeated for the hundredth time in her head a wisp of familiarity ghosted through her mind; maybe she had seen him before. But with his bland appearance it was almost impossible to remember if or when she would have.
“Raven?” Matt’s soft voice was just outside her darkened bunk, she sat up and pulled open the curtain and looked up at him expectantly. He sat down next to her, “Are you gonna tell me what happened?” he asked quietly. She hadn’t told them who had dragged her away or why she had come back shaky and pale. Without thinking she slid her fingers under Matt’s, his larger hand gently curled over hers, “What happened baby?”
“That weird guy…” she started, Matt growled but didn’t otherwise interrupt, “he grabbed me and dragged me off. He tried to get me in a car but I hit him and ran back to you guys.” She decided to leave out her docility since Matt was positively vibrating with fury. Why were men always angry around her?
“I’m okay Matt.” She reassured him, though the memory still sent a chill through her, so he wouldn’t try to hunt the guy down. Not that she could do much to stop him if he decided to do that. If anything though he was looking more and more ready to kill, if he went nuclear they would be bailing him out of jail in the morning. She needed to do something to calm him down or distract him.
She could have said something quirky or random, could have looked him dead in the eye and told him to drop it (not likely to work but still worth a try), but she didn’t. Instead she reached up and pressed her lips against his for the briefest moment before settling back. The muscle in his jaw stopped twitching, he unclenched his fists, and his lips parted slightly with soundless surprise. They stared at each other motionless and barely breathing, becoming uncomfortable with the silence Raven flashed him a dazzling smile trying to get him to laugh, do anything.
Gracefully, as if they’d rehearsed it, his hand came up and cupped the back of her head and pulled her toward him again. Matt’s lips were supple and warm and when they parted to let his tongue out she readily followed. He wasn’t hesitant and as soon as her mouth was open his tongue glided over hers. He smelled like Black Magic and tasted like cinnamon, the combination was intoxicating. Of its own will one of her hands ghosted up his shirt and across the silky skin of his belly and around to the taunt muscles of his back. Lightly she dragged her nails across his back and he shuddered moaning the tiniest bit.
The discreet cough almost didn’t register, but when she finally identified the sound she swiftly detached herself from Matt blushing furiously. Matt, unfazed by the interruption, glanced over his shoulder at Jimmy, “What?” he asked flippantly, as if the drummer had not just caught them making out.
“Did you find out what was wrong?” Jimmy asked with a biting sarcasm.
“Gotta go to the bathroom!” Raven yelped springing up and running to the bathroom. She felt like a coward but she didn’t really want to explain herself to Jimmy. As soon as the door was shut she leaned against it and closed her eyes and, as usually, proceeded to argue with herself about what she had just done. First off, she shouldn’t have kissed Matt. And why not? He’d been on the brink of going homicidal and she had obviously calmed him down. Well, calmed his anger and riled something else up she amended. Her cheeks colored again and she quickly moved on. How long was she going to hide in the bathroom? They were staying at a hotel the next night so she would get to sleep alone. Why should she sleep alone though? Matt would probably be more than willing to share his bed with her. But Jimmy would probably guess what they were up to. So what. She didn’t have to justify her actions to the drummer, he sure as hell didn’t run his various sexual enterprises past any of them.
Angry she opened the door and prepared to march straight up to the drummer and tell him exactly that. Before she could enact her daring plan she heard the two arguing and decided that telling Jimmy to piss off wouldn’t help the situation, so she pressed herself into the shadows and listened.
“I don’t see what your problem is Jimmy.” Matt snapped.
“You’re making out with Raven and you can’t see what my problem is?” The drummer retorted incredulously.
“No, I don’t. Who I choose to sleep with is my business not yours.” The singer growled. His voice changed and became taunting, “Are you jealous? Wishing it was you instead of me.”
Jimmy made an indecipherable sound of anger and Matt laughed, “That’s it isn’t it, you’re just pissy because I got the girl.”
“You don’t have anything yet!” The drummer snarled venomously.
“What are you gonna do when she goes back to being Zack, huh? Will you still be interested or will you move on to something else?”
“What’re you gonna do?” Jimmy mocked.
“I’ll love Zack no matter what body he has.” The singer said evenly. They were both quiet, Jimmy perhaps in shock, Raven was. Did Matt just admit to being A) in love with her, and B) bisexual? That was certainly a surprise and it made her nervous. What if when she changed back she didn’t love him the same way?
“You’re…” Jimmy started. Matt didn’t say anything but he must have nodded because Jimmy let out a breath, “Not something I was expecting.”
“You haven’t answered my question.” Matt said not willing to let go of the argument.
“Fuck off.” Jimmy would be angry again soon if this kept up. Raven jumped out of her hiding spot and stepped between the two larger men, “Knock it off both of you.” She snapped. She looked first at Matt, “I am not a game show prize. You don’t win or get me, it’s my choice.” She said scornfully. Once Matt looked properly chastised she turned her attention to the smugly smiling Jimmy, “I love you Jimmy, but you have no room to be giving anyone advice on their sex life. I’ll sleep with who I want and I don’t have to get permission from you to do it.” She scolded. The drummer dropped his eyes to the floor and felt mighty proud of herself for ending the argument.
“Would you choose to sleep with both of us?” Matt asked suddenly, his tone patronizing. Not willing to get dragged into an argument with the singer she looked him squarely in the eyes, “Yes.” She said strongly. And it was true. They were both extremely attractive and she really wouldn’t mind having both of them. Surprise flickered across Matt’s face, he hadn’t expected that, but he covered it quickly, “Then why don’t you,” his eyes flicked over to Jimmy’s slightly challenging, the boy just couldn’t let go of anything, “that is, if Jimmy’s alright with that.”
The drummer bristled but didn’t answer right away, “You want a threesome? When? It’s not like we have much privacy here.” He said sardonically. A smile flickered across Matt’s face, the smile he got when he knew he had won a bet, “We’ll be at a hotel tomorrow Jimmy, or did you forget?”
“Both of you cut the macho bullshit.” Raven muttered rolling her eyes. She sat down in her bunk and laid back against her pillow with a short yawn. Jimmy watched her hungrily but still indecisive, she knew he would do it though. If he said no it would be admitting defeat and he just wasn’t that kind of person.
“What time?” he asked quietly. The bet winning smile reappeared on Matt’s face for an instant, “Ten.” He sounded happy actually. Raven stared hard at him wondering what game he was actually playing.
