So much for Die’s cool attitude. He and Kyo were in his car, on the way to the boy’s house and the redhead was getting to be a nervous wreck. Hopefully, Kyo wasn’t picking up on his anxiety; Die was trying his best to keep it to himself. They paused at a red light and he reached over, placing his hand on the boy’s knee. He smiled at the blond, trying to reassure Kyo as well as himself.
Kyo gave a nervous smile back to the redhead. He had no idea how to handle the situation or how to even begin the conversation with his parents. ‘Hi mom, hi dad, your son is a slut and got knocked up by some total stranger. Oh, and another thing, he works at a sex club and has been for about a year and a half.’ Yeah, that’ll go well. He sighed heavily and looked out the window, having no idea how his parents would even take the news.
A few silent, uncomfortable minutes later, they arrived. Die pulled the key out of the ignition and listened to the engine die, fighting the urge to get sick. He opened the door and got out, waiting on Kyo uneasily. The boy climbed out, stepping up next to him and looking around anxiously. That struck Die as odd, even in the face of what they were about to do. The kid looked petrified, like he might start crying or something.
“Okay… My home, school, job, life even, rides on this moment… No pressure…” Kyo muttered to himself, but it didn’t make anything better. If anything, it made it feel worse since there was so much at stake here. He took in a deep breath and walked up to the door and unlocked it.
Ushering Die in, he let the other stand at the door while he walked into the house. “Mom, dad?” He called out, hoping that they weren’t home, but the rustle of paper from the living room proved him wrong. His father was sitting in his chair like always and was reading his paper. As for his mother, Kyo had no idea, but he had a good guess.
Out of habit, the redhead pushed at the door, making sure it was closed completely. Swallowing, he followed after Kyo, feeling intensely uncomfortable. Die reached out and hesitantly placed his hand against Kyo’s back briefly when he reached the boy, trying to offer some comfort. There was a man seated in a chair, looking disgruntled, with a paper slightly crumpled in his grasp. The sight of Kyo’s father set Die further on edge and when the mother joined, looking curious, the feeling increased ten-fold.
“Hey… I uh, wanted you both to meet someone. This is Die and he’s um…” He hesitated before moving to sit down on the couch. His father didn’t seem to be paying attention, but when he sat his paper down; Kyo could tell the other was annoyed.
“The school called. They told us you didn’t attend your classes today. Why’s that?” Kyo’s father asked, keeping his eyes trained on his son. Kyo scratched the back of his head and looked down at the floor. “I was sick this morning and didn’t feel like going in. I was at Die’s, he’s a co-worker.” The boy had told his parents that he had a job, but he didn’t say doing what, so he was telling the truth.
Die nodded politely at Kyo’s parents, not liking their sudden scrutiny. Something about the kid’s father reminded Die of one of those child abusers. That thought set off an alarm somewhere in the redhead’s chest and he glanced at Kyo, wondering if maybe he had ever been smacked around by his father. Furtively, he observed Kyo’s mother and instantly disliked her. She looked condescending and not very motherly, in the redhead’s opinion. Dear God, what kind of home life did Kyo have?
“I see. Well, your teachers said they would have your work from yesterday and will give it to you when you go in tomorrow.” His father said as he sat his paper on the coffee table. “Come, sit down. Bring your friend over too.” He said, gesturing over to the couch. Kyo nodded and moved carefully over to the sofa, taking a seat upon the cushions slowly and looking over at Die, gesturing for him to come over.
Die complied, sitting next to Kyo. Instinct screamed to sit closely, but common sense said to keep distance. Surely these people had to know something was up. You just didn’t bring your co-workers home to your parents for fun. “How long have you worked with Kyo?” the kid’s mom asked, stepping next to the chair where her husband sat. She had a questioning look on her face that Die didn’t like. “A while,” he lied, speaking flatly.
“Mom, dad… I um…” Kyo was hesitant to tell them the news, this visit wasn’t going so well already. He didn’t know how to go about it calmly when he could tell his parents were already upset at him from missing school.
“What is it? Spit it out, boy.” His father said as he crossed his arms in front of his chest and watched his son carefully. Kyo sighed and lowered his head, there was no way getting around this. “Okay, I can’t beat around the bush about this. The reason why I wasn’t in school was because I was getting morning sickness and puking my head off… I got a um… test thing…” He took in a deep breath, letting it out in a sigh. “I’m pregnant… and Die’s the father…”
The room was silent for a long moment and the tension could be cut with a dull knife. He could feel Kyo’s body give a rather palpable shudder on the couch next to him and he felt himself getting angry. Not with Kyo, but over the fact that the boy was so scared. That was sign enough to him that these were not great parents. “You slut,” Kyo’s mother said tersely, breaking the silence.
“Mom, no, it wasn’t like that!” He pleaded before his father stood and unbuckled his belt, pulling it from the belt loops and folding it in half. “You little whore!” His father shouted in rage and advanced on the blond. Kyo held up his arms and curled up, feeling the belt come down harshly on his shoulder. He yelped and braced himself for the next blow. It struck his back as he dove out of the way, moving towards the other end of the coffee table and out of his father’s reach.
“You are not my son! Get out of here, you filth!” He roared, causing Kyo to bolt from the ground and up to his room. In a rush, he grabbed what he could and stuffed them in a suitcase he had in his room along with a few other bags and a couple duffle bags. All the while, his father was shouting not only at him, but at the redhead as well. Kyo didn’t know what the redhead did after that, but he sure as hell hoped that Die wouldn’t take a swing at his father. He pulled his things down the stairs in a hurry, tripping on the last two, but catching himself and his things.
“Now, you shut your fucking mouth!” Die was seething; still appalled by the fact that Kyo’s father had just struck his own son with a belt. “God damn it, the kid is fucking pregnant, you dumb fuck!” He took two large strides toward the man and felt Kyo’s mother grabbing his arm, trying to yank him back. He slapped her grip away and got in the man’s space, pleased to note that he was taller than the other.
“Listen here—you don’t touch Kyo. You don’t call him, you don’t look for him, you don’t even think about him. He is mine from here on out, damn it!” He was moments away from breaking that bitch’s face in if one more thing went wrong.
“Fine, you take that that freak of a child with you! That slut has no room here!” Kyo’s father’s face was red as he shouted. “I have wanted nothing to do with that abomination ever since it was born into this world!” His rage and resentment towards the blond was coming out full force now. He hated the boy ever since he was born. Hearing this, Kyo dropped his bags. His father turned around and saw him standing there, shocked. “What are you still doing here? Get out!” He shouted as he pointed to the door. Kyo wasted no time in gathering his stuff from the floor and getting it outside once he opened the door.
There were a million things Die could have said to that man, a million things he wanted to spew out. None of them would come to him, he found. Instead, he felt his temperature rising uncomfortably and he shook. Before he realized what he was doing, his hands were gripping the man’s shirt roughly and he backed him against the wall, enjoying the firm smacking sound that he caused by doing so.
To Die, it felt as though he could note every detail, like it happened so slowly, when he knew everything was happening too rapidly. Instinctively, his fist balled tighter and he moved it, swinging at Kyo’s father. When it struck the other man on the cheek, the redhead was inwardly pleased, ecstatic, but it was heavily tinged with fury. He repeated the motion several times, not able to find a reason to stop.
Kyo had left his things outside when he heard the thud against the wall. He rushed back into the house and saw Die laying into his father. “Die, stop!” Kyo rushed over, pulling the redhead from his father. He didn’t want Die to do something he’d regret. Even though he had a new found hatred for his dad; yet another reason to hate him, he didn’t want anything bad to happen to him.
His father crumpled to the ground and held onto his nose and face, feeling blood trickle from his nose. He pulled Die away from the man and pushed him to the door. Before he pushed the redhead out of the door, he went back to his father and pulled his leg back before bringing it forward to kick the man in the gut. Feeling better slightly, he turned and glared at his mother before going back to the front door and exiting the house with Die, slamming the door shut behind him.
Die was furious as he helped Kyo throw his things into the car. The bags wound up being perched haphazardly and one toppled over when the redhead slammed the car door shut. He was shaking as he helped Kyo into the passenger seat and his throat felt ungodly dry and uncomfortable. He hauled himself into the driver’s seat and fumbled to start the vehicle. He wasn’t sure if he trusted himself to drive, but he damned sure didn’t want to stay in Kyo’s driveway.
The boy looked out the window, keeping his head turned away from Die as they pulled out away from his home. Never in his life would he figure that his own father hated him that much. If his father did, did his mother too? His house was never friendly and it was always tense. He sniffled slightly and closed his eyes, holding back the tears that threatened to spill.
The ride back to Die’s house was silent and fraught with bad feelings. By the time they got inside of the house, the redhead’s rage had mellowed outwardly, but he was still furious inside. Adding to his anger were the shudders that periodically wracked the blond boy; the suppressed sobs that the kid needed to let loose. “Go sit on the couch,” he instructed as gently as he could, “I’ll go get your things in a minute.”
How the hell could a father say such things about his child, even if it was in a burst of anger? It was unacceptable, in Die’s opinion. In that moment, he swore to himself that he was going to do everything in his power to be the best father possible to the baby growing inside of Kyo’s body. He didn’t care what happened—he was going to love that child and make sure that it knew that, too.
It wasn’t long before Kyo was curled up on the couch and crying for all he was worth. Those things that his father said were eating away at him as he thought back on what was said. If his father truly felt that way, his mother most likely did too. His parents resented him because he was a freak of nature. He had known it all along. His father was right, he was a freak. Kyo sobbed and curled up tightly on the couch, feeling each sob wracking his body with shudders as more tears spilled.
As Die reentered the house with Kyo’s bags, he cringed. On the couch, Kyo was crying and Die felt that maybe it would do no harm to let the hurt try to escape that way. The sound of the boy weeping hysterically made him ache inside with sympathy, though, which perhaps Kyo wouldn’t want, but it couldn’t be prevented on the redhead’s part. He rushed to stow the bags in his room and returned to the living room, hesitantly sitting on the couch near Kyo. “Come here,” he urged softly, reaching out to touch the blond’s shoulder lightly.
Kyo crawled into Die’s lap, his arms wrapping around his waist instantly and hugging him tightly. Die was the only one who didn’t resent him; he was the only one who didn’t think he was some kind of freak. His sobs started to die down to sniffles as his tears continued to spill. Kyo held onto Die tightly and did his best to stop the tears. He had Die now and that’s all that mattered to him. He didn’t need his parents anymore now that he had him.
“Forget what he said,” Die said, cupping the back of Kyo’s head, stroking the hair soothingly. The boy’s frame trembled frighteningly in his grasp then and a sad, choked noise escaped from his mouth. The redhead’s free hand went to Kyo’s back and rubbed there, trying to provide as much comfort as he could. He pressed his face into the blond’s hair, nuzzling the softness with his nose. “I’m going to take care of you.” That was a promise.
Hiccupping softly, Kyo nodded and did his best to calm his tears. After a few hours, Kyo had eventually stopped crying. He rubbed his eyes and yawned, nuzzling up to Die closely. His arms were tight around him, not wanting to let go. Kyo didn’t want to let go, he felt that if he did, Die would leave him. A yawn passed his lips; all that crying had tired him out. Today was a very taxing emotionally and physically.
The redhead was shocked that he would consent to consoling someone for such a long time. He wasn’t even sure if he would do so for his close friends, but he was willing to do so for Kyo. The blond was becoming slack in his grip, almost wilting from exhaustion. Hooking his arm under the boy’s rear for support, Die managed to rise from the couch. His other arm went around Kyo’s middle and he carried the kid down the hall to his room.
All of Kyo’s things were stacked up, needing to be placed away, but he felt that it could be done later. For that moment, he was focused on keeping Kyo calm as he placed the boy on his bed. Without needing to be asked, the redhead laid next to him, cradling the smaller body against his own. From impulse, he pressed his palm against Kyo’s stomach and willed the baby to know that it was loved.
Feeling Die return made Kyo feel much better as he started to allow himself to drift into sleep. One thought crossed his mind, but he didn’t have the strength to voice it properly. He wondered about how school would be now, but maybe Die would figure something out. That was the least of his concerns now as he finally drifted to a pleasant sleep curled around Die, holding the other close.
