When Night Falls(Pt6)
Sav silently went down the stairs several days later, going into the kitchen for a glass of his preferred drink. His steps flattered seeing Joe sitting at the table twirling his glass as if deep in thought. Ignoring him, Sav retrieved a bottle and a glass from the cabinet, accidentally slamming the door. The sound pulled Joe from his thoughts. "I haven't seen you in a few days." Sav rinsed his cup out and sat it in the sink. Turning around, he leaned against the counter and crossed his arms over his chest. Joe sat up straighter in his chair, a worried expression on his face when he noticed the light circles under Sav's eye's and a hint of tiredness in them. "Are you alright, you look t..." "Exhausted." Sav finished for him. "Thanks to your little pick me up, I've been asleep for three days. I still have bad days from when I was sick Joe. Did you even think about that? Or how it would affect me?" "No." Joe replied softly. "I thought you left because I cou..." "Where would I go?" Joe glanced up at him. "You could go home with me." "Why would I do that?" Sav huffed and narrowed his eyes. "It's impossible to talk to you when you're mad." "I'm not mad." Sav shot back. "I don't have the strength to be mad." "Yes you are. If you weren't, you wouldn't be using that tone of voice." "Can you blame me for being mad?" "No, I guess not." Joe looked back at the table. "Were you only thinking of yourself?" "No I..." Joe started, but the look in Sav's eyes told him that no matter what he said at this point, he wasn't going to believe him. "Did you even bother to find out where I was or ask some one? Did you even bother to come down to Phil's room to see for yourself if I was alright?" "No." Slumping down in his chair, Joe stared down at his glass. He waited for Sav to say something else. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. It was my idea to give it to you. Nick just went along with it." "Nick just doesn't go along with anything, unless he has something to gain." "He didn't gain anything other than to be with..." Sav chuckled and stuck his hands in his pockets, dropping his head down. "You're defending him now, how ironic." "I'm not defending him." Pushing away from the counter, Sav stepped over to look out the large window that over looked the ocean. The gentle foamy waves that lapped at the beach, washing away the sand. "We've been through so much over the years Joe. Not just with the band, but that of friends and...lovers. You and I made it through all of it. Forgiven each other for our mistakes and betrayals, every time. It didn't matter what it was, we always forgave each other. But this..." "Don't do this Rick...don't do it to us." Sav tore his eyes from the window, to look at the floor. He hadn't realized that Joe was standing behind him until he spoke. "I don't know if I can this time." "No!" Joe grabbed his shoulder and spun him around. "I don't believe you. Look at me....tell me to my face that it's over between us." Holding onto the anger he still felt over what happened, Sav looked up at him and held his eyes. Not being able to say anything for fear of Joe seeing right through him. He wanted nothing more than to forget everything about that night, to throw himself into Joe's arms and never let go. But at this moment in space and time, he couldn't give into that....not yet. "I screwed up...big time, it was selfish of me to do it and I know that. I'll do anything to make it up to you. Just...I love you Rick, more than life itself...please don't do this..." Tightening the thinning thread of anger, Sav struggled to keep from reaching up to brush away the tears that freely fell from the green pleading eyes that forever held him captive. Turning his head away so he couldn't see the pain in their depths, he finally brushed past Joe and started to leave the room. "Rick..." Joe called out. Sav stopped and turned half way around to see that Joe hadn't moved. "When you find it in yourself to forgive me...I'll be waiting for you ...at home." "Have a safe flight." Sav's voice broke and he quickly left the room, blocking Joe from his mind. He didn't want Joe to feel the turmoil that leaving him again was tearing him apart inside. Joe was fighting his urge to run after him. Plead with Sav not to leave, but he knew deep down that he needed time alone. Moving over to the window, Joe placed his hand on the frame, then rested his forehead against the back. "Your trouble ahead halo is a little late." He told the full moon. Pulling himself away, Joe caught the shiny glint in the window pane. A small smile touched the corners of his mouth. Swiping the tears from his cheeks as he looked down at the ring that adorned his finger. "I'll be waiting for you...for as long as it takes...I'll be waiting." **** Joe as he hugged Phil close a few days later. "No hard feelings right?" "I'm working on it old man." Phil chuckled, returning his embrace. Joe pulled away and side stepped to stand in front of Gail. He reached up and caressed her cheek. "I can never apologize enough to you for what happened with Sav." "Even eternity wouldn't be enough." Gail smiled warmly. "Just remember what we talked about Joe. I think this time away from each other will make you see everything that Phil and I have told you." "I will." Joe pulled her into his arms. "Take care of him for me." "Sav is in good hands here." "Well..." Joe backed away. "Come to Dublin soon." "We will." Phil said. Joe bounded up the stairs of the smaller of two private planes that Nick owned. Stopping at the top he turned to scan the shadows around the building. He knew that Sav was there, although he couldn't feel him, he was there. He secretly hoped that Sav would suddenly land or even shove him on the plane and announce that he was going home with him. "Something wrong Joseph." "No...I was...was just waving bye to Phil and Gail." He replied and raised his hand. "Shall we board and be on our way?" "Why are you going with me anyway?" Joe grumbled as he went inside. "The other jet is down for maintenance and I'll be staying in New York on business with the Foundation for a few days to deal with your new charity case, Miss Crystal Griffith." "You should buy another one, that way I wouldn't have to share it with some one I don't like right now." "Maybe I should." Nick mumbled as he too looked behind him for any sign of Sav. He felt that all to familiar feeling from when ever he was close by, but knew that Sav would not be getting on the plane. Nick ducked inside and closed the door. Once they were airborne, Nick poured drinks for them. Standing over Joe he waited for him to accept the crystal goblet. Joe mumbled a thank you and returned his gaze back to the ground below them. Nick took his seat and scuffled through papers. Joe broke the silence a few hours later. "He hates us you know." "I assume you're talking about Richard." "Who else would I be talking about?" "Richard will come around in time." Nick glanced up at Joe when he didn't say anything. "If not, there are other ways to...persuade him." "He hardly talked to me the last two days...sex wouldn't work either. What else is left other than time?" "I tried the time, then to persuade, in the end more desperate measures were needed." Nick casually sat his drink on the table after taking a sip, then looked over to Joe. "You mean lock him up like you did?" Joe asked in disbelief. "I'm not you Nick and I don't have to lock him up to keep him in my life." Nick held his hands up. "It was only a suggestion." "Keep your suggestion to yourself." Joe huffed and fell back on the small sofa. "This separation is only temporary....I know it is. Sav will do his own thing for a few months then come home. He always does." "Sounds to me like you're talking yourself into thinking that he will." "You don't seem too worried about any of this." "Why should I be? I don't need to beg and plead to get him to stay." "No, you use abuse and threats." Joe mumbled. "What do you use Joseph. What makes you so sure that he will be back?" "Our friendship, my love for him...his for me.." Joe held up his hand, to show him the ring. "...and this." Nick chuckled. "A circular piece of metal is just that...metal. It holds no symbolism of love or commitment what-so-ever." "Maybe not to you, but to me it does." Joe shot back. "He never gave you anything like this." "No, he gave me something better." "Oh. And what was that?" "I was his first." Nick smirked. Joe narrowed his eyes, "He didn't give you anything, you took it from him...harshly." "You asked." Nick said and rose from his chair. "You are such an asshole." Joe growled and turned his back on him. "You may have been his first Nick, but I'll always hold his heart." "And I hold both of yours." Nick whispered close to his ear. "Sav asked me what you had to gain from going along with my plan of a threesome. I know what he meant by that now." Nick ran his hand along Joe's thigh. "What would that be?" Turning to his back, Joe looked up to his piercing blue eyes. "All those years of planning paid off. You finally got what you wanted and tore us apart." Nick smiled down at him. "It took you long enough to figure that out." Placing a soft kiss on his lips. "Your learning Joseph, albeit slowly, but learning." Nick quickly left his view, leaving Joe stunned to the core about the truth he didn't want to face, that he knew to be there. Everything Sav and everyone else kept telling him was true. 'Why didn't I see it, did I want too? I played right into Nicks hands, his game and he won.' Joe's deep groan vibrated his chest. Turning back to his side, pulling his legs up the best he could on the small sofa. 'You didn't win Nick, not this time, not ever. Sav will come back to me, all your scheming will be for naught. He will come home to me...someday. And together we will find a way to get you out of our lives, for good.' Joe thought to himself staring at the intertwining bands of his ring. With those thoughts burned into his mind, Joe drifted into a restless sleep. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
