L’intensité d’une perception sensorielle
Everything exploded that night. We were playing a set in front of a bigger audience than we had ever had. All I could see was an ocean of jumping people, up and down and up and down, moving to our every beat and sound effect. I lost my sense of gravity, and was glad that no one could see my face. Glad that I was only half a part of the greater entity that was Thomas and me. I was also glad Thomas’s face was concealed by his robot helmet. There was a rainbow waterfall falling down on him, but when it didn’t touch his face, it didn’t have any effect on me. In a way, these helmets were also a safety measure against myself.
So when he took it off...
It was too early. There was a wave of green, a wave of blue, crashing against the softest skin of his neck, and it rose. It touched his lips. We hadn’t reached our dressing rooms yet, and I had no idea how I would get there. He smiled. He turned around and looked at me, his face painted in red and orange.
Ooh... I’m about to die.
There was no one in the hallway. He was the only one who noticed my sudden halt, standing quietly, to admire. He walked back to me, taking a few steps. The sight turned everything to ice, adapting to the clear, solid perfection. He touched me and I moved to him. I wanted to own this moment, eat it, devour it, keep it with me forever. I reached out and touched the light on his skin, touched the unity of colour and Thomas. I was afraid I would push too far, that I would break something, that he would never speak to me again, that I would never see the prism like this again. But the puzzled look he gave me only lasted two seconds. He took off my glove and pressed my hand against his cheek. His eyes were serious, in a way that I had never seen before, and I noticed how his chest moved as he breathed. When his lips touched my fingertips, lights were starting to flash before my eyes, blinding me for the world. He dragged me to our dressing rooms. He left the door open and the lights off. It was in the weak blue light from the hallway that he took off my helmet. His face was shining, and even though they weren’t there, I saw all the colours that had ever caressed it. I realized I had always wanted to do the same, and I felt sorry for never having tried it before.
I tried to cover him completely, like the light. Heavy emotion, like hot battery liquid, was pulsating through me like never before. I was afraid it would cause a short circuit, and closing my eyes made it worse. But his lips made contact with mine, closing the circle, channeling my energy. We were one closed system, completing each other.
I was searching for a code to show him my human heart, but the only expression that came close to the chaotic mixture of impulses that were going through me was ‘I love you’.
‘I love you too,’ he whispered. And after a moment of silence, he kissed me again.
