Chapter 6: Christmas Party/Meet The Parents
"Andy they're here!" Ethan shouted from the living room letting Lynn, Brian, and Alex into their apartment.
A frustrated Andy threw her tie against the dresser, "Okay, I'll be out in a minute," she said. Ethan walked into her room and he could tell she was getting upset.
"Hey what's wrong?" He asked as he picked up her tie. Andy just used her eyebrows to point to the tie and Ethan just smiled.
"Do you need help?" He asked.
She shook her head, "No, what I need is for my hands to stop fucking shaking," she said and put her hands on her dresser and let out a sigh. Ethan put her silver and black tie down on the dresser.
"Let me fix you a drink," he said and walked out of her room.
"Everything okay?" Alex said as he watched Ethan starting to grab a bottle of Jack Daniels from the cabinet and a can of Coke from the refrigerator and as well as a red liquid. He put everything on the counter and then grabbed a short glass and filled it with ice.
"Yeah, she's just getting frustrated over her tie is all," he told them and started to mix Andy's favorite drink.
"Does she need any help?" Lynn asked.
Ethan shook his head, "Naw, she's good. She did the same thing last year and the year before and the year before. I never know why. She never tells me." He told them and he finished making her drink and walked back over to her room.
"Here ya go buddy," he gave her the small glass and she took it gratefully. She took a couple of sips and closed her eyes.
"There's only three people that know how to make this perfectly and that's Mary, Kayla and you," she said opening her eyes.
Ethan chuckled and looked at his best friend wearing her favorite red button down dress shirt tucked into her black dress pants with a black belt and her black dress shiny shoes.
"Why don't you you go without the tie this year?" Andy looked at him as if he was crazy. She stared at her best friend and with his blue dress polo, and tan dress pants with a black belt and his Vans.
"I always wear a tie. I just need to calm down," she said and took another sip of her drink and put it down on her night stand. She took in a deep breath and picked up her tie and started to try and tie it again. Ethan patted her on the back and walked out of her room.
"You guys want a drink?" Ethan asked and the three of them nodded and walked over to the kitchen and sat around the counter. Ethan started to take out a couple of bottles of whiskey from the cabinet and from the refrigerator some sodas to mix them with. He grabbed a few short glasses from the cabinet and filled them with ice and put them on the small bar.
"She isn't nervous 'cause I'm here?" Lynn asked being nervous herself. Ethan just shook his head.
"No, I think it's more of she can actually be herself around her co workers. Plus we have a lot of new employees and she's yelled at half of them already. So for them to see her carefree is a bit of a shock. It was last year that's for sure."
"This one over here couldn't pick out an outfit," Brian said point his thumb towards Lynn.
Ethan laughed, "Oh, it took Andy all day to finally pick out something. I mean, I KNEW what she was going to wear. It's what she's wearing now. I think she put on the same shirt like seven times before she finally decided to wear it."
They all laughed just as Andy walked into the bathroom and found her cologne and put some on her and she made sure her hair was okay. After fussing for a few minutes in the bathroom, she turned off the light and walked back into her room. She made sure she had her wallet, her keys, her cell phone, and she put on her watch on her right wrist.
Her friends always asked why she wears her watch on her dominate hand. She would tell them, that growing up she saw her dad have it on his right wrist. She didn't know he was left handed at the time and she wanted to be just like him. Ever since then it stuck.
She checked herself in the mirror one more time and nodded. She grabbed her drink and turned off her lamp and walked out of her room looking at her phone, "We should get going, Clint's asking where we are."
She put her drink on the counter and started to text him back. Again, she didn't see the three people there in her apartment.
"She's really bad at looking at her surroundings," Ethan whispered to them and they all couldn't help but give out a little chuckle. Andy looked at her watch and started to type on her phone again. When she was done she put her phone in her back pocket and finally looked up and saw them. Again she was taken aback.
"I don't think I'll ever get used to see y'all here," she said with a smile as she looked at them. Brian and Alex were pretty much matching, wearing all black. Black dress shirts, black dress pants, black belts, and black dress shoes.
Then, her eyes fell on Lynn, she was wearing a slightly dark red blouse and black pants as well. Her hair was pulled back into a nice bun and her face seem to be brighter. Ethan looked between the two of them and couldn't help but notice that they seemed to match.
"Did you two plan this?" He asked moving his finger back and forth between them. Lynn and Andy finally looked at each other's outfits and then at their own. They couldn't help but blush and smile at the same time.
"Let's go," Andy said and they all started to follow her towards the door. They were all ready for a good night tonight.
***************************************************************************
"Bout fucking time!" Brendan said as they walked through the doors of the club.
"Sorry, I had to turn around! I forgot my brace!" Andy yelled over the music and saw that no one was on the dance floor. She saw everyone talking and dancing around the dance floor but not on the dance floor. She shook her head and smiled. Everyone started to come up to her and Ethan and they gave hugs and introduced their friends to the trio.
"Andy! Come on everyone is waiting for you to get this started!" Juliet said and grabbed her arm. She looked back at Lynn and gave her an apologetic smile as her co worker pulled her up onto the dance floor and they both started to dance together.
"Here you go!" Brian said giving Lynn a glass of red wine. She thanked him over the music. They watched as a Latin beat came on and saw how smooth the two were moving to the beat.
"Those two love to dance, I swear!" Michael said coming up to them. He greeted them with hugs and said that he was sorry he couldn't talk to them the other night. They waved him off and they started to talk about that night and then about their tour.
There was a loud cheer coming from the dance floor. They all looked up and saw more people on the dance floor, Andy was dancing around, laughing, and having a good time.
"Go out there!" Alex said to Lynn and she just shook her head. Michael saw this and smiled. He put his drink down and grabbed her hand and started to lead her towards Andy. Ethan watched this all go down and he smiled. He too put down his drink. Then grabbed Alex and Brian's hands and started to bring them to the dance floor as well.
Andy felt a tap on her shoulder and she turned around and saw Michael, he leaned in, "I think you forgot something!" He said in her ear and he took a step aside and there stood Lynn. Andy smiled at her and took her hand and pulled her close. Even though the song was a fast one she started to move slowly with Lynn in her arms. They rested their foreheads against each other's and just stayed like that until the song was over and then another fast song came on.
The entire crowd screamed and Lynn's eyes went wide and started to laugh. She pulled away slightly from Andy but still stayed close. They both found the rhythm with each other and started to dance to the music. This was going to be an amazing night.
*******************************************************************
"Okay, let me know when you get him home and then let me know when you get home." Andy said helping Trey into a taxi. He had a little too much to drink and he couldn't drive. So Brendan was going to ride with him in the taxi while Ethan followed in Trey's car. Michael was going to meet them there and pick up Brendan and the two roommates would head home.
Andy watched as the taxi drove off. At some point in the night her tie, and her shirt came off now she was standing there in a slightly tight white t-shirt tucked into her black pants. She walked over to her truck and opened the door for Lynn and helped her up. Alex and Brian got into the back seat. Once Lynn was settled in the front seat Andy kissed the back of her hand and Lynn blushed.
Andy winked and closed her door. She was walking over to the driver side when Brandon came up to her and started to talk to her.
"Hey so, what's this about you and Ethan moving?" Andy looked at the truck then back at Brandon.
"Not right now, but call Ethan, he'll explain everything," she said and he just nodded. They said good night and gave each other a hug. She patted him on the back and he rushed off to his car.
Andy got into her truck and started it up. She was about to back up when her cell phone started to ring. She put her truck in park and answered it, "Andy! Hey! Brendan and Michael are going to Rick's. I'm going to ride with them when Michael gets here. Clint, Brandon, everyone is going. Bring the trio!" Before she could respond Ethan hung up. She just shook her head and chuckled.
"Are y'all hungry?" She asked looking at all three of them.
"Starving!"
"Yes!"
"I could eat." She got all at once.
"Alright well looks like the after party is going to be at Rick's." She said and this time started to back up her truck.
"Fuck yeah!" She heard Alex say. She just smiled and started to drive in the direction of their next destination with her hand in Lynn's. This was going to be a Christmas they wouldn't forget.
*******************************************************************************
"Is he ready yet?" Trey said with a yawn. It was about three in the morning and it was the day Andy and Ethan were leaving for Boston. Trey offered to take them to the airport. But he didn't know why they wanted to leave so early. Andy told him again about how they had to check in and get past TSA and because of her brace she might have to be searched.
Andy came over and gave him a mug of hot coffee. He took it with a grateful smile. "I don't what you do, but your coffee is so much better than Starbucks," he said and took a sip and closed his eyes.
"I just had a hint of chili pepper honey, sugar, cream, and cinnamon," she told him as she was checking her carry on bag. She doubled checked to make sure she had her cell phone charger, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant. Her shower stuff was in her small suitcase since it wasn't the eight ounces of liquid for the carry on.
"Still, your coffee is amazing," Trey said sipping on the warm liquid. Ethan came out of his room with his back pack and small roller suitcase.
Without thinking she handed him a mug of coffee, "This is why we're best friends," he said and wrapped his arm around her and gave her a side hug.
"You got everything?" She asked as she zipped up her duffel bag, then started to go through her suitcase.
After taking a few sips of his coffee he nodded, "Yeah, I think so. I'll double check." He said and put his coffee mug down on the counter and started to go through his back pack and then his suitcase. Andy closed up her suitcase and stood up. She was about to put on her shoes when her cell phone started to ring. She didn't bother to look at the who it was and just answered it as she grabbed her black and red checkered Vans and sat down on the couch.
"Hello?" She said with a slight yawn.
"Well good morning to you too," the voice said and she could hear a smirk in the voice.
"Good morning beautiful. Are y'all about to head out?"
"Yeah Brian's checking us out right now and Alex is loading up the car. We should be there in about forty five minutes or so."
Andy looked at her watch and stood up after putting on her shoes, "Yeah about the same. Trey is dropping us off there. We'll meet you by the gate," she said with a smile.
"Okay, I'll see you soon, bye."
"Bye baby see you soon," Andy hung up and she looked up and saw the two guys looking at her with a smirk on their faces.
"Oh shut up!" She said and they laughed. They finished their coffees and Ethan washed their mugs and then they were off to the airport.
"Dude I hate the fact that we have to switch over in D.C. I hate that airport," Andy said as Trey was driving on the highway towards the airport.
"What's wrong with it?" Ethan asked in the backseat.
"Every time I go there, my gate is either changed or I'm delayed. Remember when I was in Vermont for a few months and then my grandma died?"
Ethan nodded, "Yeah," he said remembering that phone call he got at four in the morning.
"Well when I flew to D.C. my flight was delayed and my gate was changed twice. I had to ride the trolley bus twice and I barley made my flight to Florida."
Trey took the exit towards the airport, "Dude that sucks. Is it always like that?" he asked.
Andy nodded, "Yeah pretty much everyone that flies north has a switch over in D.C. What's the point of this place being an international airport when it's really not." She said with a scoff.
Trey just chuckled as he followed the signs for "Departures." He pulled up to the curb and turned on his hazard lights. He put the car in park and the three of them got out of the car and Trey opened the trunk to get their suitcases out.
"You guys have a safe flight, let us know when you get there and I'll be here to pick you both up," he said with a smile and gave them each a hug.
"Don't kill anyone while we're gone," Andy said with a smirk.
"Can't promise that. Love you guys I'll see you soon," he gave them each one more hug and then got into his car, turn off his hazards and drove off.
The two best friends grabbed their carry on bags and suitcases and walked into the airport. Andy's cell phone went off and she smiled when she saw a text message from Lynn.
"Hey we just parked, where are you? :)"
"Just walked in. About to check our suit cases and then head over to the gate."
"Okay, we have to return the keys, and we'll see you in a bit :*"
"See you soon baby."
"They just parked," Andy said as they got in line to check in for their plane tickets.
Ethan looked at his watch, "You do realize we have three hours before our flight leaves," he said in a tired voice.
Andy nodded, "I know but as my dad always says, 'You never know what's going to happen'" she said in a deep voice and pointing her finger. Ethan smiled and shook his head. They were next in line for their tickets and to check in their suitcases.
When the young woman called them up the smiled and started to give her all their information. It didn't take long for them to get their tickets and to check their bags. When they got everything settled they started to walk over to the escalators to head up to their gate.
Meanwhile Alex was returning the keys to their rental car. It didn't take long for him to get the receipt. He thanked the young man and the three best friends walked over to the line to get their own tickets. Their check in was also smooth and Lynn was on the search for Andy.
"She's here don't worry," Brian said shaking his head with a small smile.
"I know, I just thought she would be down here. I didn't think it was that quick for them to check in."
"Well if you haven't noticed we got here super fucking early," Alex said with a yawn and he stretched his arms as they waited in line.
Lynn chuckled just as her phone went off.
"Just made it pass TSA we'll see you at the gate :)"
"Any problems with your brace?"
"Not really, just had to take it off before I walked through the detector, then they had to use the wand on it just to double check. Other than that it was fine."
"We just got our tickets we'll see you in a few. :D"
"Okay baby."
Andy adjusted her brace just as Ethan came up to her with a medium size cup of coffee and a small bag of beef jerky.
"Breakfast of champions," he said handing her the cup and the small bag of beef jerky. Andy smiled and looked up and took the items from his hand. He took the seat next to her and she put the coffee cup and beef jerky next to her bag as she finished adjusting her brace.
"Giving you problems?" He asked.
"It's just not adjusting right," she said with a sigh and took it off completely and then stood up and tried to put it back on.
Lynn, Alex, and Brian were walking down the corridor and saw Ethan sitting down watching Andy put on her brace. His face was a look of both concentration and concern.
"You okay?" Alex said coming up to them.
Andy was still adjusting her brace, "Yeah, just doesn't want fit right today."
Ethan pulled out his phone and looked something up, after a few moments he found what he was looking for, "Is your knee acting up?" he asked still looking at his phone.
"Yeah, why?" She asked looking at him and he showed her his phone. He had the weather pulled up and it showed that it was going to be cloudy with a chance of a possible snowstorm. Andy stood straight up and let out a big sigh.
"What's wrong?" Lynn asked putting her hand on her shoulder.
"Well you know how people say a body part is acting up because of the weather?"
Lynn nodded, "That happens to you knee?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah and sometimes if it's going to be bad for some reason my brace doesn't want to work with me," she said with a small scoff.
She bent back down and started to readjust her brace. It took her another ten minutes and then she finally got to where she wanted it.
"Finally! Man, I hate the weather now," she said as she took her seat and picked up her coffee and took a sip. She put it back down and picked up the small bag of beef jerky and opened it.
Lynn sat next to her and smiled, "Is this what you eat in the morning?"
Andy gave her a half smile that made Lynn's heart skip a beat, "No, but whenever I go on a trip I have to have beef jerky. I don't know why. It's like a 'gotta have it' for me." She looked at her as she took a bite of a piece of jerky.
"Here," Ethan said giving Andy a small white pill.
"What's that?" Alex asked sitting across from Ethan and Brian next to him.
Andy took it from Ethan and put it in her mouth and she took another sip of her coffee. Ethan looked up at Alex, "It's a motion sickness pill. She hates flying. When she was a kid she got really sick. Also the last time we flew she forgot to take it and she was a wreck the entire trip." He explained and as he looked at Alex.
"You're just a walking disaster aren't you?" Brian joked and they all laughed.
"You don't know the half of it. Bad back, bad shoulder, heart murmur. I'm just all kinds of fucked up."
"Jeez, well then, maybe I'll just have to rethink us huh?" Lynn said in a joking tone and Andy looked at her with a slight horrified look.
"Oh my God! I was just joking baby," she said and took her hand and kissed the back of it and intertwined their fingers. Andy let out a breath of relief she didn't know she was holding.
"But you seem so fit. How is that even possible?" Brian asked. Andy looked at Brian and took another bite of her beef jerky. She thought about what he just asked and she had nothing to say. No one every really asked her that before.
She swallowed and took a sip of her coffee and after a few more minutes of pondering she finally had her answer, "Well, I guess you could say I had a bad couple of years and I told myself that I had to snap out of it and I started to work out more and now here I am."
"Amazing, I just wanna know more about what you went through. Seems like you had you had it really rough from the sounds of it."
Ethan and Andy nodded, "Worst years of my life. But more on that later. Tell us about Boston. Now okay, I have to confess, that's where my favorite movie was filmed."
"What? The Departed?" Alex said rolling his eyes.
Ethan and Andy looked at each other and shook their heads, "Uh no, The Boondock Saints." Andy said with a chuckle. Alex sat up and looked at with a surprised look.
"Now come on tell us about Boston," Ethan said giving Alex a wink.
***********************************************************
"I fucking hate D.C.!" Andy said as she sat down next to Lynn. Just like she predicted their flight was delayed and the gate was changed again. Ethan just came back with Alex from going to the information desk to confirm that this was the gate they were supposed to be at.
The plane ride to D.C. was a smooth one. Ethan got the window seat like always and Andy got the aisle seat like always. Lynn, Alex, and Brian were in different seats since theirs were last minute additions. Brian ended up three rows behind them. Lynn was a row in front of Brian and Alex was all the way in the back of the plane.
Andy made sure she had her one of her favorite books, her notepad, and her pen. Her three must whenever she flies. They help her stay distracted since she hates heights and hates flying. Ethan put in his earbuds and turned on his music and closed his eyes. He always slept on flights; it didn't matter if it was for a short period of time or a long period of time. He always seemed to be able to sleep through anything.
Once they landed, Andy would always stay seated until pretty much almost everyone was off. She kept reading her book and kept taking notes. She felt some one touch her shoulder and give her a small squeeze. She smiled when she looked up and saw Lynn. She took her hand and kissed the back of it and gave her a wink. She told her that she would see her in a few and all Lynn did was smile and nod.
Lynn, Alex, and Brian, waited for the two and they started to make their way to the connecting flight. Andy stopped at the Departure/Arrival screens just to make sure. Of course, their gate was changed. They got to their gate, and again their gate was changed. So they went to the next gate only to find out that their flight was delayed by six hours.
Andy rubbed her face let out a sigh. She truly hated flying especially since she had to be in D.C., for six hours, in an airport. Lynn was rubbing her back to comfort her. Andy rested her arms on her knees and looked over her shoulder and smiled at Lynn, "At least I'm here with you," she said.
Lynn smiled and wrapped her arms around Andy and put her head on her shoulder, "Look on the bright side, we'll be in Boston by dinner. I'm sure my parents are cooking up a storm right now."
Andy smiled, "I'm more worried about your brother," she said.
Lynn laughed and kissed Andy's cheek, "David is harmless," she told her.
"Okay well, he did tell me that he didn't like Alexa for some reason. He does have good instincts with who I date." Lynn added.
Andy's eyes went wide as she looked at her and she just smiled and gave her a soft kiss on Andy's lips.
"You're going to be fine," she whispered against Andy's lips and kissed her one more time.
"Okay, food is here," Brian said walking up to them and started to pass out sandwiches, chips, and drinks for everyone.
"What time are we getting to Boston?" Ethan asked unwrapping his sandwich.
Andy looked up at the departure time and it said that they were leaving in about five hours, "Should be getting there around dinner time. Like Lynn said. I mean it's only ten right now." Just then her cell phone went off and she put down her sandwich and pulled her phone from her pocket. She looked confused when she saw the number.
"Excuse me," she said as she stood up and walked away from the group.
"Uncle Chris?" She asked as she answered her phone.
"Hey Andrea, I need the address to the place you're staying at. I'm going to be over nighting your Christmas presents."
"Uh, okay? Once we land and get our car I'll have Ethan send you the address. May I ask what it is?"
"Let's just say you and Ethan won't be living in that dump of an apartment when you get down here."
"I'm sorry what?"
"Gotta go, love you!" Before she could ask anymore questions her uncle hung up and she just looked at her phone with more confusion. She walked back to everyone and Alex was the first to notice her face.
"You okay?"
She shook her head, "I'm not sure. My Uncle wants to know where Ethan and I are staying so he could overnight our Christmas presents."
"What do you think it is?" Ethan asked looking up from his sandwich. They didn't tell the trio that they were moving to Georgia when they would return home. So they had to keep it discreet until they broke the news to them on Christmas Eve.
"I have no idea. Guess we'll find out tomorrow or on Christmas Eve."
They continued to talk about Boston and how the trio couldn't wait to show them around and introduce them to their families. Andy had her arm wrapped around Lynn, who was leaning in close to her and had her arm around Andy's waist. All five of them were laughing, talking, and just having a good time. Even though they had a long delay they were all there together. That's all that mattered at moment.
****************************************************************
Another smooth plane ride and they landed in Boston. Mark was going to be there to pick up the trio. Ethan and Andy were going to get their rental car so they could take it to the town home they were renting for the two weeks.
Again they were separated on the plane besides Andy and Ethan, and again they all met up once everyone was off the plane. Lynn and Andy were walking hand in hand behind the trio of boys in front of them. Andy kissed the back of Lynn's hand and Lynn smiled and kissed Andy's cheek. She was truly happy that Andy was able to make the trip to spend Christmas and New Years Eve with her. She couldn't remember the last time she was this excited.
They got to baggage claim and waited with the other people to get their suitcases. Lynn's phone started to ring and she pulled it out of her jacket pocket and her eyes went slightly wide when she saw who it was.
"I'll be right back," she said as she let go of Andy's hand and walked away to answer her phone.
"Kara?"
"Lynn! Thank God! We need to talk now! When are you coming home?" The other voice said in a rush.
"We just landed, and then going to my parents place."
"No, no, no, I need you and whoever that person is that's with you to get to my office NOW!"
"Kara slow down. What's going on?"
There was a sigh and a long pause. Lynn's mind was going a mile a minute, from the way Kara was sounding something wasn't good.
"Look, there's pictures floating around of you with your arms wrapped around someone, and then of you two kissing. We need to do damage control and we need to do it NOW!"
Lynn looked over at Andy who was helping Brian pick out their suitcases and laughing at what Alex said. Her heart again was racing watching Andy. This was a different situation, because Andy wasn't in the spotlight. She was just a fan that she met two months ago. This is one thing she wanted to keep Andy away from. Her other life. The life of touring, recording, interviews, red carpets, paparazzi and rumors. This was what she was afraid of.
"Lynn! You there?!" She was brought out of her thoughts with Kara's voice.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm here. Look, Kara can we come by first thing in the morning? My parents are expecting us for dinner in a couple of hours. Tomorrow is the day before Christmas Eve. Can we do it then?"
This time there was a frustrated sigh and then a long pause. Lynn waited a few more moments then she heard, "I want you all here at 8 A.M." Before Lynn could say anything Kara hung up on her. Lynn looked at her phone and saw that her mom called and then saw that Kara tried calling her at least nine times. There were text messages from Kara as well as screen shots of her and Andy in the D.C. airport.
They were two pictures that she was talking about. No doubt now that the news has gotten out that she was seeing someone new. What would she do now? Should she tell Andy now or wait?
"Lynn, you coming?" Ethan called to her and she looked up and smiled. She started to walk over to them when she saw a flash come from somewhere. She looked around and saw a group of teenage girls looking at her with a horrified look. She smiled at them and started to walk over to them.
"Uh oh," Brian said, he looked at Ethan and Andy, "Okay, look text us your town house address and we'll meet you there. You guys should leave now before this gets bad. If you see Mark tell him we got side tracked."
Andy and Ethan just nodded and started to walk away as Brian and Alex went over to join Lynn. Andy looked back at the trio and she saw Lynn pop her head up and gave her a quick smile. That's all she needed. She turned back around and they made their way over to the company they were renting a car from.
It didn't take long for the two best friends to get their car and Andy couldn't help but smile. Ethan got a glimpse of the keys and he just rolled his eyes. They were walking out and they bumped into Mark who was just about to walk in.
"Mark?" Ethan said seeing him.
The tour manger turned and smiled, "Hey Ethan, Andy! How was the flight?"
"Smoother than most," Andy said with a small chuckle.
"Not a big fan of flying huh?" He asked patting her on the shoulder.
"Nope. Prefer to drive or train."
"I couldn't agree more," he said giving them a genuine smile. He looked around, "Where's the trio?"
"They got caught up, but they should be down shortly. They want to meet us at the town house we're renting," Ethan explained.
Mark nodded, "It's always a fan or a "friend" that has to stop them when they fly in. Do they know where you're staying?"
"I just sent all three the address. I guess from there we're gonna follow you guys to Lynn's parents house where everyone else is and we're gonna meet everyone." Ethan said as he looked at his phone and read a text from Alex.
"Oh, well they're on their down. We're gonna get a head start though. We don't know the city so, gotta get familiar with it. Plus we wanna get showered and ready before we head over. You know dress to impress," he said with a chuckle. Mark nodded and shook both of their hands.
"We'll see you soon," he said with a smile.
They went their separate ways and Andy pressed the button the key and they heard the small chirp of the car. They followed the sound and Andy couldn't help but feel excited.
"Dude I can't believe they upgraded us to this!" She said as she opened the trunk and they started to put their bags into the red 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
"What did we have before?" Ethan asked as he closed the door and they got into the Jeep.
"A 2015 Rave Four. Which is a nice car. But this is better!" She said as she put on her seat belt and then started to type in the address to the town house in her phone.
"Okay, let's go. Oh hey, can you text my Uncle the address when we get there?."
"I got you. I'm texting everyone back home now to let them know that we're here safe."
They put on their seat belts and Andy started up the Jeep and began to back out of the parking spot. Christmas in Boston. What could go wrong?
***********************************************************************
"Wait, what do you mean there's pictures of you two?" Alex asked as they got into Mark's car.
"I don't know. That's what Kara said. I guess some one saw us in D.C. and took a couple of pictures of us. I don't know if it was fan, or if it was the paparazzi. Either way, they know it's me but they don't know it's Andy. When they figure out that it's Andy, do you realize how hard her life might be?"
"This is the a good time to start thinking about what you want," Alex said putting his hand on her shoulder.
"Brian, you've been with your girlfriend eight years. How does she do it? I never ask her these things. Maybe I should."
"Well, she understands that I love making music, and I'm living my dream. She's okay with it. I mean the distance sucks, but I know I can come home to her when I get back. That's the best feeling in the world."
Lynn nodded and she started to think about what he had just told her. If Andy truly wanted to be with her, would she be able to handle the distance, and not being around each other on days on end?
"Lynn," Mark said softly as he started to drive away from the airport.
"I travel a lot with you three, and I've been married for almost twenty five years and I have three beautiful daughters. I come home to my wife, and my girls, I've been doing this job for almost ten years. Yes, I've missed birthdays, anniversaries, and Holidays, but at the end of the day, coming home to them is the best gift in the world. The bottom line here is, when you meet someone and they can understand what your job is and how it takes you away from them for months on end, then that's when you know.
My wife used to come with me on tours before she found out she was pregnant with Lily. So maybe pitch that. On the next tour just have Andy come along. Don't let something like this stop you from trying something new, scary, and different. Yes, Andy isn't a "famous" person, but in her own little bar she is. She is a musician in her own right, but not as big as you. Trust your heart and your feelings. I know you and Andy have this connection and I know you two are great together. Take this time to spend time with her some more and get to know her more. This will blow over and you'll see that you're going to be happier than you ever were."
Lynn smiled at Mark, "Thank you," she said softly and gave his arm a gently squeeze.
"He's right. I've held this in long enough, you gotta let your issues with Alexa go. It's been almost three years. I know she hurt you, but I feel like that's what's been holding you back from finding some one new. Then, Andy happens and you started to glow again, but your still guarded. From what little time we've spent with Andy and after hearing about what her ex girlfriend did, you two can relate on so many levels. So stop being guarded, and take this leap. This is going to be different for you, for me, for Brian. We met these two amazing fans and now the five of us have become really close." Alex grabbed Lynn's hand and she turned to look at him.
"We love you, you are our best friend and we will support you in anything that you do. We have your back just like you have ours. We want you to be happy, and you haven't been as happy as you think you've been. That was until you saw and heard Andy on the bus that one night. That's when your light started to come back. It's okay to let some one in again. I'm sure she's scared too. Like Mark said use this time to open up to her and let her open up to you. Let these two weeks last. Don't let the paparazzi, or the reporters, or the media get to you. We're all in this together. The sky is the limit and we're still going up."
Lynn wiped away a stray tear that escaped from her glistening eyes, "I love you guys," she said in a shaky voice. She couldn't ask for better friends or a better father figure that's been on the road with them. These guys have been her family for the last seven years and couldn't have ask for a better family.
Brian kissed the top of her head and Alex kissed her cheek. Since she was in the front seat they couldn't really hug each other, but as soon as they got to Ethan and Andy's that's all she wanted to do.
***************************************************************************
"Ethan, they're here!" Andy said coming down the stairs of the town house. She was wearing a white button down long sleeve shirt, with a black skinny tie, tan dress pants with a black belt, and her favorite black dress shoes. Ethan came out of his room wearing a nice black polo shirt, tan dress pants, and his black and white checkered Vans.
When they got to the town house no one was answering the door and Andy called the owners. They apologized for not being there and for not calling them sooner. They had to leave early, and that they left the keys in the mail box for them. They told them to have good time and that they would see them the day Andy and Ethan would leave. They wished them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and for them to have fun and stay safe.
It was a nice a place. Modern furniture, fully stocked kitchen, of course the two agreed to leave some money for whatever food they ate. Also, they would fill back up what they took. They knew they didn't have to but they wanted to. They went upstairs and both decided that neither would get the master bedroom. So they each took a spare room. Ethan took the bedroom across the hall and Andy took the one closest to the stairs.
They took turns taking showers and before Andy took her shower she reminded Ethan to text her Uncle the address of the town house. While she was in the shower Ethan knocked on the bathroom door and told that he was going to send it. Also that her Uncle said that it should be there by tomorrow afternoon. He also told them that he would be calling them tomorrow morning to explain everything.
She briefly told Ethan that he didn't want them living in an apartment when they moved down there. So he either upgraded them to a better apartment complex, or he got them a condo for rent. Either way, sounds like they would have a place to live. They were going to surprise Alex, Brian, and Lynn with their move and keys to their apartment. So whatever her Uncle did hopefully he noticed that they requested extra spare keys.
Andy opened the front door and there stood Alex, "Hey are you guys ready?" He asked and Andy grabbed her black leather jacket just as Ethan was grabbing his black zip up hoodie. They also made sure they weren't going to come empty handed to this dinner. Before they arrived at the town house they went to a liquor store and Ethan found a really nice bottle of Scotch. Then, they went to another store that sold wine and Andy picked out two bottles. She wasn't a wine drinker but the ones she picked looked nice enough. The final stop was a florist. They picked out a few bouquets they thought the moms would like.
She grabbed her keys, and made sure she had her wallet and cell phone. She looked back at Ethan, "Got everything?" He nodded as she was helping him with some of the things.
"Yeah, just gotta lock the door."
"We're in the red Cherokee," she told Alex. He looked and nodded. The snow started to come down a little harder than it was before. Andy made sure she wore her brace just in case she slipped in the snow. She looked at the 2017 grey Trail Blazer and saw Lynn in the front seat. She smiled and winked at her and Lynn blushed again and waved. Mark couldn't help but smile and shake his head.
"Okay, so if we lose you guys you have the address just in case," Alex called to them as he got into the back of Mark's car.
"I got you!" Ethan called back as they loaded up their rental and then got into their seats and soon the were off to Lynn's parents house for the dinner party. Andy looked at her watch and noticed that they were going to be an hour early.
Which was fine with her but she knew that Lynn would want to change and so would the guys as well. Which meant that she and Ethan would be at the mercy of the parents of the trio. She took a deep breath and she started to follow the Trail Blazer into the snow.
"You okay dude?" Ethan asked.
"Yeah, just nervous. I'm never good with meeting parents."
Ethan smiled, "You did great with my mom."
"Well yeah, you're my best friend that's different we aren't dating."
"Neither are you and Lynn."
Andy let out a sigh, "I feel like we're doing things backwards or something. Like, aren't you supposed to date for like six months, meet the parents. Then, after a year move in together, then, live together for like a year or two. Get engaged stay engaged for a year or two, then get married. Be married for a while, then have kids. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?"
"In a perfect world."
They started to pull up to a drive way and Mark parked his Blazer. Andy decided to back up and park on the street only because she wasn't sure how it would be to have strange car in someone else's drive way.
Everyone started to get out of the cars and also started to gather up their things. Once Andy and Ethan had the bottles of wine, Scotch, and flowers, she locked the car and they rushed over to them to help them with their things.
Without even asking Andy grabbed Lynn's small bag and put it over her shoulder and started to help with one of her suitcases. Ethan was doing the same with Alex and Mark was helping Brian. They were walking up to the driveway when a man and women came out onto the porch with big smiles on their faces.
Andy took a deep breath and Lynn took her hand in hers, "You'll be fine. Plus you look amazing," she whispered and kissed her cheek.
"Thank you," she whispered back, "Just wanna make a good impression you know," she said with a weak smile.
"My girl is finally home," the older woman with brown hair smiled and gave Lynn a hug. Lynn let go of Andy's had to give the woman a hug. Right after they were done she turned to the older man and he hugged Lynn tight.
"Come on let's do the introductions inside," he said with a smile and put his arm around Lynn and they all walked inside. When everyone was inside more hugs were going around and a few small children were running around. A tall young man came down the stairs and smiled as he put his arms around Lynn, "Welcome home sis," he whispered.
"It's good to be home," she whispered back. The older gentleman was helping Ethan and Andy with their coats. Lynn turned around and walked over to Andy and took her hand in hers, "Mom, dad, David, this is Andrea, but everyone calls her Andy. This is her best friend Ethan."
"Finally it's nice to put the name to the faces," her mom said as she came up to Andy and gave her a hug which surprised her. The two gentleman shook Ethan's hand and Lynn's mom gave Ethan a hug.
Andy held out her hand for Lynn's dad to shake, but he just looked at her and smiled and gave her a hug. Which also surprised her, "It's nice to finally meet you both. We've heard nothing but good things about you two." He said putting his arm around the older woman.
David gave Andy a hug as well and again she was surprised. "Where are my manners?" The older gentleman joked, "I'm Tim, and this is Cathy my wife. Obviously we're Lynn's parents and this tall guy is David. Her older brother."
"It's nice to meet you," Andy said with a smile. "Um, Ethan and I brought some wine, and some Scotch, also these are for you," She said as she gave Cathy a bouquet of flowers.
"Oh, these are lovely, let me go put them in water," she said.
David took the two bottles of wine and looked at them both, "Wow, Belle Glos, you two have fine taste. I'll go crack one of these open." He said with a smile and started to walk towards the kitchen.
Tim was looking at the bottle of Scotch with a smile, "Glendroach, wow! What do you say we open this baby. Come on in let me introduce you two to every one." He patted Ethan on the shoulder and then Andy.
"I'll be right down dad, I wanna take a quick shower and change."
"That's fine, I think the boys are doing the same thing," he said and kissed her cheek. She smiled and started to walk towards the kitchen as well.
"Are you going to be okay?" She asked looking at Andy.
She just nodded, "Yeah I mean as long as Ethan doesn't wonder away from me, I think I'll be good." She said with a weak smile.
"I'll be down soon," she said and gave Andy a quick kiss on the lips. Andy watched as she grabbed her bag and started to rush up the stairs.
Ethan smiled and put his arm around her, "You ready?" Andy shook her head and Ethan laughed, "Come on, we'll get some Scotch in ya and you'll be okay." They started to walk over to where the crowd was and Tim came over and gave them each a glass with some ice and started to pour some of the Scotch into each glass.
"Now I want to hear all about you two," he said with a smile. "But first let me introduce you to everyone."
He started to introduce them to Alex's parents which they gave his mom a bouquet of flowers. As well as Brian's mom as they were introduced to his parents and then the final bouquet was to Mark's wife. Once they were introduced to everyone Andy couldn't help put feel she was about to get the third degree from all of these people.
Sure they were nice but, pretty soon the questions were going to start and she just had to remember to keep herself calm.
"Andy I couldn't help but notice your brace. What happened?" David asked. Andy looked down at her brace and then back up and looked at everyone waiting for her to explain.
She cleared her throat and looked at everyone, "I torn my ACL last year." She said and took a sip of her Scotch.
"Ouch! How did you do that?" Robert asked, the older man with graying short hair asked.
"I jumped off a small stage, performing," she stated. She's told this story a million times where not she just brushed it off.
"Are you a musician as well?" David asked.
Andy shook her head, "It's more of a hobby at this point. I perform at a open mic night every now and then at my favorite bar. Other than that I don't really dabble in music anymore."
"She has a talent for cooking though," Ethan chimed in with a smile.
"Oh, are you a chef?" Lisa asked another older woman standing next to Robert asked.
Andy shook her head, "I wouldn't say I'm a chef per se. I mean I did train Ethan here, but I'm mostly the prep cook at the restaurant where we work at back home."
"But believe me she can make a mean chicken marsala any day of the week," Ethan told them with a smile.
"Oh yeah she can! Trust me, I've had it," Alex said walking in with a smile and giving Andy a pat on the back.
"They aren't giving you guys a hard time are they?" He asked jokingly.
"Just getting to know them is all. The way you three talk about them, is as if they walk on water," Brian Senior said; another older gentleman and everyone laughed.
"Oh come on dad, we don't talk about them THAT much," Brian said walking into the kitchen.
"Oh Please! Ever since October all we heard was 'Andy this' or 'Ethan that,'" Hannah, a woman standing next to Brian's dad said. A young brunette walked in with a smile and made a beeline for Brian. He just smiled and welcomed him with open arms. The two stood like that for a few minutes until a flash came from some where and they broke apart.
"Mom! You do this every time!" Brian said and he shook his head and took the girl's hand in his. He turned to Andy and Ethan and smiled, "Andy, Ethan this is my girlfriend Angel," he said not taking his eyes off of her. They shook hands and exchanged the usual nice to meet you spill.
"So tell us all about Andy and Ethan," Tim said smiling. The two best friends looked at each other.
"Well we met about seven years ago at the bar that I was performing at, and we kinda just bumped into each other. He ended up spilling his drink all over me." Andy started.
"I just kept apologizing and she told me that it was okay and bought me another drink. We kind of clicked after that. I started going to the bar every once in a while and she was there. She eventually got me a job at her work and ended up training me."
"We moved in together not too soon after that. The rest is history."
"How did go from training Ethan to becoming a prep cook?" Cathy asked. Andy took a sip of her drink.
"One day we noticed that some our prep stuff was low and I just kind of started to make it a habit to make sure it would get done. I slowly started to become the prep cook without knowing it. Then, I started to make dough for our pizzas and things just started to change. Ethan was running the line with my help, and I was running the back prep area."
"Where do you work?" Robert asked.
"A local chain back home called Ynot Pizza," Ethan said.
Lynn walked in and stood right next to Andy taking her hand in hers, "Are you grilling them?" she asked with a smile.
Everyone laughed, "No, honey just wanted to hear what they do for a living, that's all," Tim said giving Lynn a wink.
"Okay, table is set. Dinner is served," Cathy said with a smile and everyone started to walk towards the dining room. When every one was seated, Tim raised his glass and gently hit his butter knife against it. Everyone stopped talking and turned their attention to him.
"I just want to say that I'm glad our children are home safe and sound after another successful tour. They have worked long and hard to get where they are now and we couldn't be more proud of you three. You've all accomplished so much in the past seven years and we couldn't be happier for you. You've had your ups and downs but you've stayed together and you pushed through. I'm so glad to have my daughter home for the Holidays as I'm sure Robert, Lisa, Brian, and Hannah are happy to have their sons home. I also want to give the biggest thank you to Mark for keeping them safe these last four years, and always bringing them back to us.
Finally, to our new friends, Andy and Ethan. I'm glad we got to meet you and that you both are here to celebrate with us. Now with that said, let's eat." Everyone raised their glasses and cheered each other and the dishes began to cling and clang. People asking to pass something and food was being passed around. Laughter and joy filled the house and the nervous feeling Andy had was gone. Out of all the parents she met in the past, with the exception of Ethan's mom this felt right. She looked around the table and smiled. She couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
****************************************************************************
Andy found herself outside on the deck behind the house. The snow had stopped falling, and she couldn't help but look out at the glistening snow under the moonlight. She didn't have her jacket on because she was enjoying the cold. Back home they didn't get this, a comfortable cold. Back home was more of a blistering, bundle up as much as possible cold. She took a sip of her coffee that Cathy had brewed; decaf of course. She didn't want to be up all night.
She heard the door open and close and heard the crunch of the snow and someone stood next to her. She turned and smiled at David when he stopped and stood next to her.
"Sorry about the folks, they're just overprotective of them," he said.
Andy waved him off, "I understand. They just want to make sure we aren't all about the fame or anything."
David nodded, "Exactly. They just want to make sure you two are the real deal. From what I can tell you both are. I saw the way you two rushed to help them out with their bags earlier tonight. Some people wouldn't do that. Also bringing the wine, Scotch, and flowers. Again not many people do that. Also the way you're dressed. You definitely impressed. My dad keeps raving about how you're dressed."
Andy could feel the heat rising in her cheeks as she took a sip of her coffee, "Well, when you have a Filipino mom and a Southern dad, you learn respect others real quick." They both chuckled and they turned when they heard the door open and out walked Tim with the bottle of Scotch and three empty short glasses with ice in them.
"Aren't you cold?" He asked when he reached them and gave them each a glass.
Andy shook her head, "No sir, this is a nice welcoming cold. Back home we don't have this."
He smiled as he poured Scotch into their glasses, "Andy, I must say I'm really impressed with you." David looked at her and raised his eyebrows.
"Thank you sir."
"Oh stop calling me 'sir' makes me feel older than I already am," he said with a chuckle.
"I'm sorry sir, my dad is retired military so it's a habit I've had ever since I could remember."
Tim raised his glass, "It's a good habit to have," he said and took a sip.
"Lynn has really taking a liking to you," he started to say. Andy told herself to stay calm. This was the talk she knew was coming. She's has this kind of talk before. All she had to do was be honest and just tell them what she feels for Lynn.
"Yes sir. I have taking a liking to her as well."
"Are you two together?"
Andy shook her head, "We never really talked about making it official, to be honest. We met in Charlotte during one of their shows. Next thing I knew they came to see Ethan and I after they wrapped their tour here. Her and I kept in touch throughout the tour in Europe. I do have feelings for her. I'm just not sure how she feels about me."
"Well, I can tell you she's crazy about you," Tim said as he poured some more Scotch into her glass.
Lynn was watching the three interact outside. She was nervous, because they did the same thing with Alexa. But for some reason this time felt different. They were smiling and laughing. That didn't happen last time.
"How's it going out there?" Cathy asked coming up to Lynn and put a comforting arm around her.
"I don't know. They've been smiling and laughing the whole time."
"Well that's a good sign isn't it?" She said with a smile looking at her daughter. She just nodded and took a sip of her wine.
"I gotta tell you honey, when I saw you with her tonight, there was this light in your eyes I haven't seen since you were about seventeen years old." Lynn looked at her mom surprised.
"What do you mean?" She asked turning to her. Cathy put her hands on her daughter's arms in a comforting way.
"When you told me you wanted to pursue music, I was a little disappointed because you had your heart set on art school. But when you started talking more and more about it there was this little twinkle in your eyes. I knew then I couldn't stop you from doing something you loved. The way you look at her," she said with a sigh and a smile, "You didn't look at Alexa that way. The way you were close to her tonight, how you didn't want to let her go. You didn't do that with Alexa. I know what she did hurt you. I saw it and I heard it in your music.
You started to find your way back to you and you started to become happy again. I'm so proud of you sweetheart, and I'm glad you're home." Lynn put her wine glass down and put her arms around her mom.
"I love you mom," she whispered.
Cathy smiled and she kissed her daughter's temple, "Oh darling, I love you too." They heard the door open and the two of them broke apart.
"Well Lynn, Andy has impressed me in one night than any other person I know," Tim said giving his daughter a wink. Lynn looked at Andy and smiled. She walked over to her and wrapped her arms around her.
"I don't want to get you cold," Andy said.
Lynn looked up at her smiled, "It's okay," she whispered and Andy wrapped her arms around her. Ethan walked into the kitchen and cleared his throat. Lynn and Andy pulled away from each other and looked at him.
"I'm sorry to interrupt but we need to start heading out. Even though it stopped snowing the news said that the roads are going to be really bad. Also it's getting pretty late."
Andy looked at her watch and her eyes widen, "Yeah, we better get going," she reached into her pocket and got her keys out, "How much have you had to drink?" she asked looking at him.
"Just that one glass of Scotch when we first got here," he said.
Andy just nodded and gave him the keys, "I had about four and half, I can't drive."
"I'll go warm up the car." He thanked Lynn's parents for having him and he shook hands with Tim and David and Cathy gave him a hug.
Andy did the same she thanked them for having them over and that it was nice to meet them. All three of them gave her a hug and Lynn said that she would walk her out. She had to tell her something anyway.
Tim watched as Andy was helping Lynn put on her coat, then Andy put on hers by herself. She opened the door for Lynn and they both walked out of the house. He smiled, he never thought he would some one who was still chivalrous, especially towards his daughter. But he was glad to see his daughter happy again.
Andy and Lynn walked hand in hand towards the Jeep Cherokee and Lynn stopped and looked at her. Andy looked back and took a step towards her, "Is everything okay?" she asked in a worried tone.
Lynn nodded, then shook her head, "I'm not sure," she said. Andy took a step closer.
"What's wrong?"
Lynn closed her eyes and then looked up at the most beautiful brown eyes she's ever seen. She didn't know how to tell her, but she had to tell her about the pictures and how they had to meet Kara in the morning.
"Babe, you're scaring me," Andy said with worry in her eyes.
"Tomorrow morning we have to meet with Kara." Lynn said in shaky voice.
"Who's Kara?"
"She's our PR rep. I got a phone call from her not too long after we landed in Boston. Some one took pictures of us and posted them on the internet. Kara wants to do damage control before things get out of hand."
Andy looked down at the ground for a few moments and then grabbed Lynn's other hand, "Okay," was all she could say.
"What time do we have to meet her?" She asked.
"Eight tomorrow morning."
Andy just nodded, "Okay, I'll bring Ethan too, just in case. Are Alex, and Brian coming too?"
Lynn nodded, "We all have to be there. There could be a chance this will blow over, but I just don't want you to get bombarded with everything." It was Lynn's turn to look down at their hands.
Andy put her finger under her chin and she looked up at her, "Hey, we'll get through it. Whatever it is. I'll be here for you, no matter what," she whispered and then leaned in and their lips softly met.
If there was one thing the two of them wouldn't get tired of, it was the feeling of their lips pressed together. The both of them couldn't put into words just what they were feeling when they kissed. It's a feeling that they couldn't describe. All they knew was that they never wanted it to end.
Ethan honked the horn and the two broke apart. Andy laughed and Lynn put her head on Andy's chest and laughed right along with her. Andy took Lynn's face in her hands and kissed her forehead, "I'll see you in the morning."
She rested her forehead against hers for a few moments, "Good night and sweet dreams," she whispered and kissed Lynn's forehead one more time.
She walked away as Lynn watched her get into the car and waited until the two best friends drove away. When the tail lights disappeared she turned and walked back into the house to get a good night sleep. For tomorrow was going to be a long day.
