Chapter 6: She Was Always There
"Do you mind if I cut in?" Ashley asked them with a small tentative smile.
Lynn looked at Andy she nodded. She gave her another kiss on the lips and walked away. Andy watched her leave, then turned her attention to Ashley. She cleared her throat and smiled, holding out her hand for her to take.
When Ashley did, Andy tried not to cringe at the coldness she felt. After a moment Andy started to slowly lead them. She looked at her and smiled, then started to look around.
"You were never one to keep eye contact." Ashley said smiling. Andy looked at her and nodded.
"Never one to keep a conversation either." Again Andy just nodded. She looked on the dance floor and saw couples dancing. She noticed Taylor and Lynn were dancing as well.
"Why did you leave?" Ashley asked and this question got Andy's attention.
"Leave? What are you talking about?" She asked looking into Ashley's blue eyes.
"You left. You left me alone and pregnant. You said you would be back, but you never came back. We were supposed to have our life together. I was ready to take you back. Madeleine is supposed to be your daughter. Not Taylor's. Yours."
Andy sighed, "Look, I barely remember Michigan still. That hit I took was really hard. I do remember you and I talking over the phone. When I was back in Virginia, after my fall. Almost everything you said was a lie. We weren't together. I didn't get my ring in Michigan, and I didn't meet Nicole at the club."
Ashley looked at her in disbelief, "Andy please."
Andy shook her head, "I know my Uncle hired you as his district manger. So you and I will be working together every now and then. But I want you to understand that I've moved on. I'm happy. I'm finally at a point in my life where I'm doing fine. It took me a while but I got there. You have a family now. Cherish it. Taylor seems like a good woman. Don't let her go."
"But I think about you all the time and what we could have been."
Andy shook her head, "You need to stop dwelling in the past and move forward. I ignored the fact that Taylor does kind of look like me. But, you seem happy. From what I remember in Michigan, I had a horrible time. Three jobs, little sleep, little food. All because you told me to get a third job. My memory is still hazy, and I know it's been years, but the hit I took knocked out a lot. I haven't fully recovered. I don't want another repeat of what Nicole and Vicki did."
Ashley quickly wiped away her tears and nodded. The song ended and Andy let her go, "Thank you for the dance. I hope you enjoy the rest of the party." She gave her a smile and walked away.
She walked up to Taylor and smiled. They talked for a moment and Andy took hold of Lynn's hand and they walked away. Taylor made her way over to Ashley and saw the state she was in. She asked if she was okay and Ashley just nodded. Taylor wrapped her wife in her arms and kissed her forehead. Another slow song came on and the two started to slowly sway to the music.
Andy turned and saw the couple. She smiled at them. She truly was happy for Ashley. She found love with Taylor and they started a family. She just wanted Ashley to move on from her.
The night went on with everyone having fun and a good time. Lynn met almost all of Andy's relatives that were able to come and they all loved her. Andy was being pulled in all different directions catching up with as many as she could. She was getting asked the same questions about where she's been and how she was doing. A lot of them kept up with her career and they were happy for her.
It started to get late and Andy took the microphone and got everyone's attention, "Okay everyone. I know it's almost time to get the little ones to bed, but I do have a surprise for the couple of honor." Andy reached into back pocket and pulled out an envelope.
"My parents have never been on a proper honeymoon. They've taken small trips every year for their anniversaries, but in my opinion it was never long enough. So here in my hand are tickets for their honeymoon to Toronto Canada. A place that they've always talked about but never been. They've been to Rome, Paris, London, with Wendy and I accompanying them. But this is one destination that they can enjoy themselves kid free.
Mom before you ask about the little ones. I have that taken care of. Wendy and I are going to look out for them while you both are gone. They'll stay with us here in Georgia and fly back with us at the end of the month when you two return. I've already contacted your work, and I've already sent some of your things. Everything is taken care of. You leave first thing in the morning."
"That's why you told us to bring out passports." Kevin said and everyone laughed.
"Pretty much." Andy said with a chuckle. Someone caught her eye, but she continued with her speech, "Now, mom, dad, don't worry about anything. Wendy and I will take care of our brothers and sisters and if you want to check in feel free. But also enjoy your time, and relax. Again, thank you to everyone for making the trip out here and enjoy the rest of the night." Andy turned off the microphone and walked up to her parents.
She gave them the envelope and they hugged her. She told them that they deserved it and to enjoy themselves for once. She walked away and found Ethan. She whispered something in his ear and he nodded. He put his drink down and followed her.
There was a group of people laughing and she came up to them. She knew everyone that was there except for this one woman. She smiled at them all and asked if they could give her and Ethan a moment with the young woman.
"I don't believe we've met. I'm Andrea. This is Ethan." She said with a smile and the woman shook their hands.
"Hi! I'm Robin. Nice party."
Andy nodded, "Who do you work for?" she asked getting straight to the point.
"I'm sorry, what do you mean?" She asked nervously.
"I know every single person at this party because they are either family, my friends, or family friends I grew up with. I don't know you. Now which paper, or magazine, or news outlet do you work for?"
Robin sighed, "I guess I've been made. I work for Equal Magazine. Rumors were going around that you were in town and I wanted to check it out for myself."
"Who sent you?"
Robin hesitated, "No one."
Ethan took a step in front of Andy, "Don't make us ask again."
She sighed, "I'm sorry, but they just wanted to know."
Andy held out her hand, "Give it up. All of them."
Robin started to empty out her pockets and handing over every recording device she had. When she was done Andy saw she had two tape recorders and a small camera. She looked at her again and Robin gave up a cell phone.
Andy gave them to Ethan and she took a step forward, "Your cell phone." Robin was a little scared. Without questioning her she put in her passcode then handed it over.
Andy started to go through the phone deleting any pictures or videos Robin took of the night. When she was done she gave Robin her phone back and pulled out her own. She dialed a number and talked briefly. When she was done she looked at Ethan.
"Cops are on their way. I'll get David and you two stay with her until they come. Don't let her out of your sights. If I see or hear ANYTHING about this being in press, your magazine will be in a lawsuit they don't want. It seems those two don't want to stop any time soon."
She walked away leaving Ethan with her. He crossed his arms and scoffed, "You got some nerve crashing this."
"I didn't want to in the first place, but they offered me a lot of money to do it."
"So money is more important than my best friend's private life. You do realize the last time something got leaked to the press right?"
Robin nodded sadly, "I was the one that ran the story after the lawsuit was settled. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm so sorry."
David came up to them and looked at her with a shake of his head, "Why can't you people leave them alone?"
Andy watched as her two friends escorted the reporter out of the party. Hayley came up to her and touched her arm getting her attention.
"What's going on?"
Andy sighed using her hands to hold her up as she leaned against the table and shook her head. After a deep breath she stood up and rubbed her face in her hands. She looked around to make sure did recognize everyone. With one more look she nodded and turned her attention back to Hayley.
"A party crasher."
"You're not serious?" Hayley asked widening her eyes.
Andy nodded, "I know everyone here. I looked over and saw her. I called the number and they're on her way to pick her up. I can NOT have this leaked. Who knows what she found out. But I did get all her recording devices, including deleting everything from her phone. I'm sure they'll be able to find anything else she didn't want to give up."
"Do you know who she was working for?"
"She said Equal Magazine. But she could be lying. Later tonight I'm gonna go through it all. This is the last thing I need."
"Andy calm down, I'll help you go through everything. We'll figure this out."
She nodded, "I need to call Melissa and Serenity. Don't tell anyone about this please."
"You go, I'll cover for you." She said with a smile.
"Thank you." Andy kissed her cheek and rushed off. She looked around and pulled out her phone. She found Melissa's number and called her. After two rings Melissa answered asking if she was okay. Andy told her that she's going to conference call in Serenity.
She had them both on the phone and started to explain what just happened.
***************************************************************************
Everyone had gone for the night, Andy had hired a company to clean up after the party. She and Hayley were sitting on the deck going at the table going through the devices. Everyone that was left was scattered throughout the backyard. But Andy wanted to go through what Robin was able to get.
She threw the camera on the table and it slide over to Hayley, "That's her story. Right there."
Hayley picked up the camera and looked at the pictures of Andy and Ashley dancing. Andy didn't realize just how close Ashley was to her. Hayley scoffed and shook her head.
"On these recorders, she got some of your relatives saying you and Lynn are married."
Andy shook her head, "I could just see the headline now. 'Andrea Hill Rekindles Flame With Another Ex.' I'm glad I caught her when I did otherwise I would be waking up to this." She stood up and shook her head. She paced for a moment and then put her hands on her hips turning back to Hayley.
"It's been two years since Nicole and Vicki, and after the lawsuit you would think they would have given up by now. But it's like they don't want to. I can't let this get out. Not with what's going to happen next month. We've kept it under wraps for this long. I don't need it coming out."
"Andy calm down. Didn't you say Melissa is coming down to talk to Robin?"
Andy sighed and nodded, "Yeah she'll be here in the morning. I gotta take everyone to the airport and I'm meeting her for coffee after."
"Okay, Melissa is gonna handle it. Have you had your medicine today?"
Andy shook her head, "No I've been drinking tonight, so I can't. I don't have to take it every day. I double checked with Dr. Samson. She said it's fine not to. Just as long as I keep it close." She sat back down and rubbed her forehead.
"Look on the bright side. You were able to spot her before she could get away."
Andy smiled a little, "I get it from my parents, and my old job. Always be aware of what's around you. Granted, I was really horrible at it for a while, but traveling the last year and a half I had to be. Reminds me I need to go shooting. I gotta renew my concealed weapons permit." She said the last part thinking out loud.
"You're doing it again." Hayley said in a sing song voice.
"Doing what?"
"Thinking out loud."
Andy chuckled, "Lynn found that adorable before we started dating."
Wendy came up to them and sat down across from Hayley, "Wow, that was some party. The clean up crew is almost done. The bounce houses are gonna be returned in the morning. Ethan and Alex offered to take them back."
"How much food is left over?" Andy asked.
"Not much, everyone took at least three plates home."
"What you get when you have Filipino, and good old Southern comfort food." Andy said and the three women laughed.
"Oh by the way Crystal and Katie are gonna be coming next month too."
"YES! I can't wait. Can I tell Lynn that I know? Please?"
Andy chuckled and turned around in her chair and saw Lynn talking to Alex. She turned back around, "Sure, but just wait until you two are alone. I'm sorry we lied but we just wanna keep it discreet."
"Do mom and dad know?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah, they were kind of there, along with Tim and Cathy." She said nervously looking at Wendy hoping she wouldn't get mad.
Wendy shrugged, "Good, cause you know mom would have gotten pissed."
"I could just hear her yelling at me in Tagalog and not hearing the end of it. Took mom awhile to understand, but she came around."
Kayla came over to them and gave out red cups and Andy smiled. She took a sip of her drink and closed her eyes, letting the cool liquid hit the back of her throat.
"Still got the touch Kayla."
"Why thank you," she smiled and took a seat next to Hayley, "Tonight was a good night." The women agreed and they continued to talk about the events of the night.
Lynn looked up at the deck and smiled. She was sitting on the edge of the pool with her feet in the water with Alex next to her.
"What's really going on with you and Andy? It's like you two don't want to be around each other. Then, tonight it was like you two never broke up. Plus she was going around introducing you as her wife. I mean I got the text to go along with it. I get that her ex was here. Were you two just doing that to get her jealous? Because if you two did then that's below the both of you. I just want to know what's going on."
Lynn sighed and looked at her best friend. She took his hand in hers and smiled, "Alex do you trust me?"
"Of course I do."
"Do you trust Andy?"
"Yes."
"Just trust us a little longer. I promise you we'll tell you and everyone everything. You're gonna be at Andy's party right?"
Alex nodded, "Yeah, Ethan and I just changed our flights until after the baseball and football games next week. Then we're flying down a few days before."
"Could you two actually come a week earlier? We're both going to need you before the party."
"I can ask Ethan if he doesn't mind spending a week in Boston instead of two. Is everything okay?" He asked her looking concerned.
Lynn smiled and touched his cheek, "Everything is perfect. I think you're gonna get something in the mail soon too. Andy sent out invites for the party."
Alex nodded, "There's something different about you too. It's like you have this glow. I can't put my finger on it."
She shrugged, "Maybe because I'm glad all of us are together again. Well, minus the fact that Brian and Angel are on their honeymoon. When do they get back?"
"I think next week. They're completely off the grid. I wouldn't be surprised if Angel came back pregnant."
They both laughed and continued to talk about the next few weeks.
The cleaning crew was done and Andy thanked each of them for coming and working hard. They thanked her for being patient with them. When they left she went out to the back deck and smiled. Her friends were all in one place. She took off her watch, took out her phone from her pocket, she slipped out of her shoes, then took off her socks. She unbuttoned her shirt and took it off and put it on the back of the chair. So now she was just in her gray shirt and white dress pants.
She smirked when she saw Ethan standing on the edge of the pool. She grabbed her phone and sent Alex a quick text, then put her phone back on the table. He looked up at her and smiled. She watched as he walked over Ethan and wrapped his arms around him from behind. She could see him take out his phone and wallet from his pockets. He gave Ethan a quick kiss on his lips and backed away.
"Time for payback." She whispered and ran towards Ethan tackling him into the pool creating a large splash. They both emerged and Ethan came back up coughing.
"You bitch!" He yelled coughing while Andy was laughing.
"Payback's a bitch you asshole!" She laughed and he swam over to her and dunked her under the water. It wasn't long until everyone else joined in on the fun.
He let go of Andy and everyone started to splash everyone. With all the chaos going on Andy was able to sneak away from them. She swam to the steps and sat down watching her friends and cousins have a good time. The perfect ending to a perfect night.
***************************************************************************
Melissa looked and smiled when she saw Andy walk over to her. She stood up and gave her a hug. Andy smiled and returned it. They both sat down and a young server came to take Andy's order. After Andy placed it she smiled and walked away.
Melissa took in Andy's appearance and smiled, "Well, you look relaxed."
Andy chuckled, "Well, the crazy weekend is over and now all I have to worry about is my younger brothers and sisters. How did it go with Robin?"
Melissa sighed and sat back in her chair, "Well, she actually had a couple more recording devices they were able to get out of her. I doubled checked her phone just in case and I found some notes. I deleted those as well. We also contacted the people that represented Nicole and Vicki telling them they were in violation of the court order. So we have to go back soon. Just so you can plead you case. Do you still have everything she gave you?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah, I put it in the safe at my house. Only other person that knows the combination is Brandon, because well, he lives there. But what does this mean?"
The other woman shook her head when the server came back with Andy's coffee, and croissant with butter. Andy thanked her and she smiled saying she would be back to check on them. She walked away and Andy added sugar and creamer to her coffee and stirred it up.
"For right now, you and Lynn keep doing what you're doing. But the fact that you went around introducing her as your wife to your family may be a problem."
"Why?"
"Well, for one, can you trust your family? I remember you mention an Uncle that lied about a lot of things."
Andy took a sip of her coffee and nodded, "Yeah, but I didn't tell him anything. He mostly stayed with my grandfather. My grandfather mostly talks about Korea, or my late grandmother. Or the time when my dad came home from Desert Storm and handed Wendy off to him when she was a baby. Plus my Uncle Zane is all about himself anyway. I debated a lot to not invite him, but I had to since he's family."
"I understand, but is there anyway he would be talking about you and Lynn?"
Andy shook her head, "No, he's mostly all about his wife. She wasn't able to come this weekend for some odd reason. But he came and talked about how he was the one that got me into photography. Saying how if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't know about cameras and stuff." She rolled her eyes and took another sip of her coffee.
"I see, well, what I can tell you is that I'm able to hold off on this until after your birthday. Which by the way, I'll be able to make it so will Kara and Erika." She said with a smile.
"That's great! Is Myke coming? It's been almost three years and still haven't met your husband."
"Yeah, maybe, we'll see. He just doesn't like that I put work first."
"This may be a little out there, and I may be the last person on relationship advice, but have you tried putting him first?"
"What do you mean?"
Andy sat up in her chair and leaned against the table, "Coming from someone who is a workaholic."
"That's an understatement."
Andy smiled, "As I was trying to say, put him first. Like I don't know, come home from work with something that he loves. What does he do for a living?"
"He's a head mechanic at high profile dealership."
"Okay, what does he like to do during his down time?"
Melissa thought for a moment trying to figure out what her husband likes to do.
"Well he likes his video games."
"So do I, but what else?"
"Oh! He likes camping sometimes. He goes with his brother like every other weekend. Let's see, he likes tending to the garden at our house."
"There you go. Why don't you bring home some seeds and have him show you how to tend to the garden. Spend some time with him. Take him on a trip. Let him know that you're still by his side. Start with that. Relearn him. Find out why you fell in love with him in the first place. I learned the hard way with Nicole. I put work first and she found Nate. I feel like you want to move on with him, but you can't because you're putting your work first.
He's done all the trying, now it's your turn. You just gotta let him in, get to know him again. Ask about his day. Call or text to let him know you're thinking about him. Go camping with him. You have your work life, and you have your home life. Don't let your work life take over your home life."
"I can see why Lynn fell in love with you." Melissa said with a small laugh using a napkin to wipe a tear from her eye. Andy took a hold of Melissa's hand.
"It's always good to put yourself first, but also think about your husband. Be there for him just like he's been there for you. When you go to your parties and what not, praise him. Be proud that you're with him. Even when people try to talk him down. You stand up for him. I'm sure he stands up for you. Sure you may bring in the big money, but he also wants to provide for you too. Surprise him with presents, be romantic with him. Sometimes guys want the girl to be the romantic one."
The server came over and Andy let go of Melissa's hand. The young lady refilled their coffees and she left the two to continue their conversation.
"How did this flip on me?" Melissa asked and they both laughed.
"I don't know, but how about you go home, and make him dinner. Something simple, nothing too big. Just create the magic all over again."
"I knew I liked you for a reason." She smiled at Andy, "Now back to you. How's the planning going? Do you need us to come down early to help?"
"Yeah about that," Andy paused taking a sip of her coffee.
*********************************************************************************
"Okay, we got nachos, chili dogs, different Mountain Dews, energy drinks for us. Vitamin water, water, and juices for Andy. We also got chips, chocolate, different candies, sandwiches from Andy's favorite place as well as mine. Assassin's Creed cued up, Call of Duty when we get bored, Madden Football, Fifa, and finally, Tekken 7." Addy said with a smile looking at the spread that was out in the living room.
He wanted to surprise his cousin with one of their famous video game nights. Ethan, Alex, Justin, Brandon and David couldn't believe their eyes.
"You two used to do this all the time?" Alex asked.
Addy nodded, "With Daniel. When she would come down to visit the three of us would be holed up in my room just playing video games. Kayla, Brittany, and Wendy would go shopping or something." He sighed and sat down on the couch next to Alex.
"I don't know, I just wanted to do something for her. She's done a lot for me growing up. I was really young when my parents divorced, but I could always count on Andy. She would call me at least twice a week just to see if I was okay. I got into some trouble a few years back and she set me straight. She's been a great role model and she's someone I aspire to be some day."
"She's done a lot for all of us. Granted she was gone for a while, but Lynn was right she did call us on our birthdays. Even if we didn't answer she left us a voicemail saying she was thinking about us." Justin said with a smile.
"If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here, and I wouldn't have gotten to know Brittany. I gotta say because of her for once I'm happy." Brandon said smiling.
"I wouldn't have fallen in love." Alex said looking at Ethan kissing him on the cheek.
"Same, also I would not have the bestest friend in the entire world."
"Without her advice I would not have won Kara back." David smiled with a shake of his head.
"One time at a show someone new was setting up my drum set and they got it all wrong. No one told them that I was left handed. Andy was doing a finally check and noticed it. She spent twenty minutes asking who set it up. When she found out she talked to the guy and said that's not how it was supposed to set up." Justin chuckled recalling the memory.
"She went on to tell him that it was all wrong because I'm left handed. Well the guy laughed and said that it was ridiculous to have a left handed drummer. Andy went off, and she pushed him. If I hadn't come along, I think she would have beat the shit out of him. Andy shrugged me off and went straight to my drum set to set it up the right way. Found out the guy was fired from the venue. If she hadn't caught that, it would have been a completely different night." Justin said smiling.
"David, I know you have an early flight tomorrow, and I know it's only ten in the morning, but can we just make this day all about her. She puts everyone else before herself and today I want it to be about her." Addy said looking at him with a hopeful smile.
"I don't see why not. Let me change my flight now." David said with a smile and took out his phone from his pocket.
"The girls have the kiddos all day. Andy just drove her parents, her cousins, and her mom's family to the airport this morning. She'll be back any minute. So it's just us guys and Andy. Well Andy's always been one of the guys." Brandon said and they all laughed.
"We can order either pizza or Chinese if we run out of our snacks." Ethan chimed in.
"Oh, if there's one thing Andy doesn't do when she plays video games it's having alcohol. So can we not drink tonight and stay sober?" Addy asked and they all nodded.
They heard a car pull up and Justin went to the window, "It's Andy." He said smiling and made his way back to his spot on the floor. They heard the turn of the lock and Andy walked in. She closed the door and turned around seeing the living room.
"What's going on?" She asked taking off her zip up hoodie then her shoes. Addy smiled and stood up. He took her hand and led her to the couch. He let her sit down and turned on the TV. She saw the logo of her favorite game come on the screen then she gave her cousin a confused look.
"Andy, today us guys are going to have a gamer day and night. We wanted to do this for you. We wanted you to have some fun. You planned this big weekend, and now the party is over it's time for us 'kids' to have some time to ourselves. The girls have the kiddos and they're going to be out all day." Addy said.
"Well what about tonight?" She asked.
Brandon stood up and smiled, "That my friend is taken care of. I just got a text from Brittany and she said that her, the girls, and the little ones will have a slumber party at her place."
"Okay well, David don't you have an early flight tomorrow morning?"
"All taken care of. I leave tomorrow night instead." David said with a smile.
"Wait what about the bounce houses? Were they taken back this morning?"
Alex shook his head, "Yes Andy! Now Stop worrying and let's play!" He smiled and handed her the controller.
She looked at them and sighed. She couldn't believe they all went out of their way to plan this. She smiled and hit start on the controller. The guys cheered and they all got comfortable.
Addy started handing out drinks to the guys as they watch Andy starting to play her favorite game.
"How many times have you beat this game?" Justin asked.
Andy shrugged, "About ten maybe more." She said looking at the screen, "Wait, I need my stomach medicine." She hit pause and was about to get up but Ethan stopped her. He smiled and took out her medicine from her pocket.
"I got you covered buddy."
She smiled and took the bottle, she opened it and took out a small pill. She took a sip of her water and swallowed. Ethan took the bottle and lid from her and she returned to the video game.
"I have an idea." Alex said and they all looked at him.
"How about, if someone fails a mission or something, someone else takes a turn. Andy you can guide us and tell us what to do."
"That's not a bad idea. Justin you start." Andy said giving him the controller. He smiled at her taking it. He turned to the TV and got comfortable.
Andy leaned back and smiled. She watched her friends smiling and talking about the game. She wished every day could be like this.
*********************************************************************************
"NO! You have to counter then attack Alex!" Andy said standing up from her seat.
Wendy just opened the door to the house to see her sister stand up. She rolled her eyes and walked in. Her younger siblings rushed passed her and went up the stairs, "Get your things ready in ten minutes!" She called up to them.
Lynn, and Shey walked in after the little ones rushed up the stairs. The three women saw the living room was a mess. They saw empty soda bottles, empty plates of food, and the guys talking all at once.
"Stop talking!" Alex yelled pressing the buttons trying to win a fight in the game.
"Andy! What do I do?!"
"Counter! Counter! There that! Keep doing that! You almost got him!" Andy said still standing up watching the screen.
"Of course they would be playing this." Wendy said with a laugh.
"What is it?" Lynn asked looking at the screen.
"Assassin's Creed, Andy's favorite game."
"Looks different than the movie." Shey said watching the TV.
"I'm so glad we're staying at Brittany's tonight." Lynn said with a smile.
"Okay guess we should get our stuff together too." Wendy told them and they nodded. The guys and Andy cheered giving Alex high fives for winning the fight. The girls paused on the stairs and shook their heads. They continued up the stairs to get their things together.
Alex paused the game and they all looked at him, "Did you guys hear something?"
They all looked around not seeing anyone. Alex shrugged and unpaused the game. Andy sat down and their attention was back on the TV screen. They were so into the game they didn't hear the three women come down the stairs with five excited kids.
"Okay, we're leaving have fun guys!" Wendy said as they walked out of the front door. Alex paused the game again and looked around.
"I swear I heard something."
Again they all looked around and shrugged. They again turned their attention back to the video game.
Wendy started the SUV and they were off to Brittany's house. That morning they took the younger kids to one of Wendy's favorite parks she used to go to when she was a kid. After she said bye to her mom's side of the family, Shey suggested taking the kids to breakfast and to a park. Wendy knew exactly where she should take them.
They weren't at the park long when Brittany got a text from Brandon asking if they could keep the kids busy throughout the night as well. She asked why and Brandon said they were going to be playing video games all day and night. She shook her head and smiled.
She told the others, and suggested to have a slumber party at her house. The girls loved the idea. Wendy, Shey, and Lynn would take the kids to get their stuff at the house. Hayley and Kayla offered to go get movies, and snacks for them. They went their separate ways and they would meet back at Brittany's.
"Those guys are ridiculous. Didn't even know we were there." Shey said with a laugh from the backseat.
"Lynn, that's just what's to come with Andy just so you know." Wendy told her with a smile as she turned onto the main road towards Brittany's house.
She waved her off, "I'm used to it. On tour the guys would take over the TV and play video games all night."
"But this is different. This is from morning well into the next morning. Her, Addy, and Daniel did it all the time when we came down to visit. If it wasn't Addy's room, it was Daniel's apartment. Mom got so mad one time because Uncle Chris planned this bonfire and the three of them didn't show until it was almost over. Uncle Chris just laughed, but mom ripped them a new one." Wendy finished with a laugh.
"Hey, did you two notice Andy talking to that one girl last night? David and Ethan walked her out." Shey asked.
"I did see Hayley and Andy with a camera and a couple of other things on the table last night." Wendy turned onto Brittany's driveway and parked behind her car. She turned off her SUV and parked.
"Do you think they could have hired someone?" Shey asked getting out of the car and started to help the kids.
"Maybe Hayley could tell us." Lynn said going to the back of the SUV to grab the bags. Wendy joined her to help. Shey was able to corral the kids to the house and opened the door. They kids rushed in and Shey told them to slow down. She saw Brittany and shook her head.
"Jeez, I don't know how Susan and Kevin do it." Shey said and Brittany hooked her arm through hers and led her to the kitchen.
"Well, you have to admit they did raise two kids when they were just starting their twenties." She said with a chuckle.
"Little help!" They heard from the door and they rushed to help Lynn and Wendy. Hayley came out of the playroom after the kids got settled and met them at the door.
"Okay, we can put the boys in Trevor's room. I set up some sleeping bags. The girls can have the spare room. I figured after they all go to bed we can have a girls night." Brittany said leading them up the stairs to the rooms.
"We've got wine, whiskey, snacks, and we're gonna order pizza for the kids, and get whatever we want." Hayley said with a smile, putting a couple of bags in one of the rooms. Once everything was sorted they went downstairs and got comfortable in the living room.
Brittany and Wendy went to check on the kids first to make sure they were okay. After a few minutes they joined the others. Brittany sat down next to Wendy on the loveseat and they both sighed.
"So Hayley, what were you and my sister talking about last night after the party?" Wendy asked crossing her legs leaning back on the loveseat.
"She didn't tell you guys?" Hayley asked and they all shook their heads.
"Well, turned out there was a party crasher last night. A reporter."
They all started to talk at once, but Hayley calmed them down, "Calm down, Andy was able to get to her before she left. She took any recording devices she had, and deleted everything from her phone. We went through them last night and Andy found pictures of her dancing with Ashley. She figured that was going to be the next story. We also found out that she recorded some of her family members saying Lynn and Andy are married."
"Okay, seriously what is going on with you and my cousin? You two have been acting really weird." Kayla said waking out of the kitchen with a tray of drinks and setting the tray on the coffee table. Everyone grabbed a drink and then looked at Lynn.
"You just have to trust us, and we promise everything will be explained soon. We had to put on an appearance last night because one well her ex girlfriend was there. I mean, you guys got the text Andy sent out. We're just trying to avoid another scandal." Lynn explained.
"We did, I'm just so confused about it. Wendy, your mom keeps asking about us going to Virginia for Andy's party. She asked me like every hour." Brittany said.
"Well she's been planning a party for Andy for a while. Andy just missed out on so much and she just wants her to have a decent birthday party. This is kind of like her make up for her thirtieth. Sure we spent time together, but we all kind of traveled during it." Wendy told them.
"Can we get back to that reporter? How did she end up crashing it?" Kayla asked looking at everyone who just shrugged.
"Andy mentioned that it could have been those two again." Hayley said.
"Oh come on! Can't they just move on from her? It's been years since they broke up with her. God! They just need to leave her alone. Ashley too, like seriously. They all had her at one point and they all let her go. Why can't they see that?!" Brittany said in frustration.
"It's that whole, you don't know what you have until it's gone type thing. Plus they're in violation of the court order aren't they? They aren't supposed to come into contact with her in any shape or form. Doesn't this count?" Kayla said looking at Lynn who nodded.
"Pretty much. I thought Nate and Nicole would have been married by now. After he and Andy got into that big fight he said he would check in with us about Nicole. That's how we found out she and Vicki were working together." Lynn told them.
"What did Andy think the story was going to be?" Brittany asked.
"There were pictures of Andy and Ashley dancing. When I looked through the pictures I could tell Andy was stiff and not wanting to dance with her. But there was one picture were Ashley was looking at Andy like she was still in love with her. I saw Andy's face and there was no emotion. But we all know how the press can twist words." Hayley said.
"Do you y'all think it's a little weird that Andy and Taylor kinda look alike?" Shey asked.
"You know I was thinking the EXACT same thing. It's like they could be twins or something." Kayla said.
"Again, it's this whole moving on thing. You would think after all these years they would. But for some reason they're just holding onto her." Kayla explained.
"Well, Andy's moved on. She's doing so well now and she's finally in a spot where she's happy. However, she's still putting everyone before her." Brittany said and they all agreed.
"I think that's why the guys are doing this today. Something for Andy." Wendy said.
"You know, I've known Andy since I was fourteen. Before she made me her assistant I had it rough. I was making poor decisions, and just hitting rock bottom over and over again. But Andy was always there. She would call to make sure I was okay. When I was in jail, she wrote me every week. She even said when she made it big she would have a job for me. Lo and behold she did. She helped finally find a path that I could follow. I owe it all to her." Shey smiled thinking of all the times Andy's was there for her.
"When my mom was dating Chris and they came down to meet us for the first time, Andy was so stand offish. I know she doesn't like my mom and I understand why, she grew up with Kayla and Addy's mom. So I get it. But one day Daniel mentioned video games and they clicked. Then, her and I broke the ice with college football talk. Next thing I know Wendy and Andy took a trip to see Trevor being born. She's been in his life and my life more than his father. She would call me or text me at least three times a week asking me if I wanted to her come help." Brittany chuckled.
"I'm not gonna lie, there were a couple of times I wanted her to, but I told her no. She kept me sane and has been there ever since." Wendy put her arm around Brittany and pulled her close.
"Andy's my big sister and my best friend. Every time I went through a break up, she wouldn't ask about it. She would just put on my favorite movie, go out and get junk food and we would just eat and talk. I hated it when she moved away, but I knew she needed something new in her life. Even though she travels, she always calls me to let me know she's safe. Sure she's made some bad decisions and I had to pick her up. But I knew I could always count on her."
"Growing up I always looked forward to you and Andy coming to see us. I clicked with you more because we liked similar things. Even though Andy didn't like what we did, she stuck around just to hang out with us. You and I would get lost in our conversation, and Andy would just sit back and smile. She was just there. She's always been there and I love her for that."
Wendy smiled and held out her hand for Kayla. Her cousin scooted over to her and took her hand with a smile.
"When I found out our PR people wanted her on tour, I was really skeptical because I wasn't sure how she was going to be. After the first night I saw how talented she was and how hardworking she can be. When I was told she was the photographer for PVRIS after about a week of her being on tour I had to do my research. I saw the pictures from their tour and I was amazed. Not only is she an amazing photographer, but a musician as well." Hayley smiled and Lynn took her hand in hers.
Hayley cleared her throat and continued, "There was one night where I couldn't sleep, my anxiety was getting the better of me. We were heading to our next stop on the tour and I was up. Andy woke up and came out to the front of the bus and saw me. She asked if I was okay and I just nodded my head. After a moment I started to cry. She didn't say anything, she just sat next to me on the couch. She didn't hug me at first because she told me later she didn't know if that's what I wanted. She just took my hand in hers and told me everything was going to be okay."
She looked at Lynn and smiled, "That's all she had to do. The next thing I know I woke up in her arms. Nothing happened, but just having her there I felt this sense of calm. The rest of the tour we had late night talks and she made me feel better. Even just seeing her in the crowd snapping away with her camera I would feel better. I'm sorry I took her away from you guys. Now I know why she means a lot to you all." Hayley squeezed Lynn's hand and she smiled.
Now everyone was looking at Lynn. Waiting for her to tell her a story about Andy. Lynn smiled and looked at everyone.
"We all know how strong Andy is. We all know that she puts people before her. We all know how much of a workaholic she is." Lynn started and everyone agreed.
"Throughout our last tour she always made sure I was okay. She surprised time and time again with just little things. I would wake up to little notes saying she went to explore the town with the guys and she would be back. Then she would come back with a flower, or seashell, or just a cool looking rock. She would say she saw it and thought of me. I never thought someone could be as thoughtful with little things like that.
One night I couldn't sleep and I was on the couch on the tour bus just mindlessly watching TV. I heard a loud thud and I shot up from the couch and rushed to the back of the bus where her and I were staying. I saw her on the floor muttering and slightly thrashing. I knew it was some sort of nightmare. I went over to her and started to talk softly. Telling her to come back to me. When she finally woke up she saw me and just started to cry." Lynn could feel tears in the back of her eyes and Hayley squeezed her hand.
"I just held her and told her it was going to be okay. We got back into the bed and I just held her. It was in that moment, I started to think that she was there for everyone else. But who was there for her? I started to think that she had all these people that love and care about her, but for some reason she felt alone. I knew that because I've had that feeling before. I never thought I would see her this vulnerable. It took me by surprise.
I knew this was something she wouldn't admit. I just figured it out. The next morning she woke up with a smile and I really looked at her and she was so full of life. At some point I asked Ethan about Andy feeling alone. He confirmed what I was thinking. He told me that Andy always thought no one was there for her and how she felt alone."
Lynn wiped a tear from her eye and next thing she knew everyone was around her with comforting smiles.
"She's been there for all of us. We all want to be there for her. But I don't think she knows that. She's always taking care of us, and we take care of her, but I don't think she knows that either. She the most amazing person I met and I never thought I would find love again until I met her. She's given me this whole new outlook on life and love, I want her to be able to see that too. I want her to know that all of us are here for her and that we all care and love her. She's our go to person for everything. I want to be that for her too."
They all nodded and agreed. They wrapped their arms around each other and after a few moments they let go. Each of them wiping a tear from their eyes.
"Okay, shit just got too real." Wendy said and everyone laughed.
"You know, I think David is the only one flying out tomorrow, and I know Andy doesn't do the girly stuff. But what if we just do like a small thank you thing for her tomorrow night?" Kayla asked.
"I'll plan like a little dinner party." Brittany said.
"Just us girls and Andy." Hayley said with a smile.
"I think the guys can handle the little ones tomorrow night it's their turn anyway. I'm sure she knows that we love her, but she's shown us time and time again how much she cares and loves us. Maybe it's time we return the favor." Shey said.
"Okay, so it's settled, we'll give Andy a dinner party." Brittany said and they all went about planning for what they were going to do for their friend, sister, and cousin.

"Andy! Shey's here!" Ethan called up the stairs. As the kids ran past him and straight to the backyard where the other guys were.
"I'll be right down!" She called back. She checked herself in the mirror. Her and the guys had fun playing video games well into the morning. She woke up to the music from the Fifa game they played. It was about two in the afternoon when they all woke up. After they all were fully awake they started to clean up the living room since it was such a mess. Andy's phone ended up dying and when she was able to charge it up she had missed calls and text messages from Wendy and Shey.
Each telling her to be ready at five. She called Wendy asking why and her little sister said to just be ready at five. Shey was going to be dropping off the kids. Andy panicked and told the guys they had three hours to get the house clean because the kids were coming back.
They each took a task and David said he would just get a taxi to go to the airport. Brandon offered him a ride and told him he wouldn't take no for an answer. His flight left around seven so he had time to help and pack up.
The living room and kitchen were clean in record time. Around four they all were back in the living room sighing and tired again from all the cleaning. That's when Andy shot up saying she needed to shower and get ready for Shey to pick her up. David wasn't too far behind her saying he needed to pack. He wanted to get to the airport early just in case they hit traffic.
He was able to say bye to Andy and told her he would see her in a couple of weeks. He said bye to the guys, then he and Brandon were off to the airport.
She was putting on her watch when she heard a knock on her door, "Come in." She said and adjusted her belt on her black dress pants, then adjusted her blue polo shirt making sure it was tucked in.
"Shey says to pack and over night bag." Alex said with a smile.
Andy looked at him confused, "Why?"
He crossed his arms and leaned on the doorframe, "I don't know but she said that since we hogged you all day yesterday, the girls are going to hog you until tomorrow evening."
Andy sighed and walked over to her closet took out her back pack. Alex watched as she started to pack up some clothes. He smiled watching her carefully put things in her bag and chuckled.
Andy looked at him and smiled, "What?" She asked and walked past him to go to the bathroom to put her toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant in her small bag.
"It's just we all missed you and now we all want you to ourselves."
She walked back into her room and double checked her bag. She zipped it up and slung it over her shoulders and smiled at him, "Well, I promise these next couple of weeks, will be like old times. With some new friends of course."
He walked up to her and pulled her into a tight hug, "I don't think you realize how much we all missed you." He whispered. Andy wrapped her arms around him still confused. She knew she was missed, but she didn't know everyone missed her this much. She thought after Brian and Angel's wedding she would be able to spend some time with them, then she would have been off to somewhere else.
She wasn't expecting all this time off. Last night kinda proved to her that everyone missed her. But she knew her friends would move on with their lives without her. That's how life worked. People leave, and sometimes they don't come back. Her plan was to stay away until her party and then she was going to take time off. But everything changed when Serenity told her she was on paid vacation.
They heard someone cleared their throat and the two friends let go of each other. Alex sniffled and rushed out passing Addy. He looked after him with a confused look and he turned to see Andy quickly wiping her tears.
Her cousin came up to her and put a hand on her shoulder and smiled, "Shey's wondering what's taking so long."
"Addy, let me ask you something."
"Okay." He said looking concerned for his cousin.
"I know everyone is glad that I'm back for a while. But I'm not sure why. I mean we're family and we see each other now and then. I just don't get why everyone is acting like I've come back from the dead. People leave and their friends move on with their lives. Why is everyone so happy that I'm back?"
"Because you've been there for all of us. Andy you put us before you, and you always made sure that we were all okay, that we were doing fine. Not ONCE did you tell us about your life. You know I had to find out from your dad that you got to go on tour with PVRIS. The DAY before you came to Atlanta to kick off the tour. You don't tell us about your accomplishments. You forget about yourself. Let us take care of you for once. Let us be there for you. It's our turn. Let us have that."
Andy looked at her cousin as if he grew another head, "I'm sorry I didn't know that's how y'all felt."
Addy nodded, "It's true. Because of you, I'm on the right path. Ethan and Alex are in love. David got Kara back. Brandon is happy. Justin has your back for standing up for him. All because of you. You've been there for each and every one of us. Now let us be there for you. Come on Shey's waiting."
Andy wiped her eyes again and nodded, "Give me a second. I need to calm down."
Addy nodded and kissed her forehead. He let her be and walked out of her room. When he came down the stairs he saw Ethan talking to Shey.
"Now she has to take one of these before she eats tonight. Then, tomorrow she has to take one of these at three thirty. Now she says that Dr. Samson told her that she doesn't have to take it every day. The only time I don't sneak it in is when she's drinking."
"Ethan, don't worry, I had to do this with her about a year ago. I was there when she got her check ups. I think we're gonna be drinking a little tonight, but I'll make sure she takes it tomorrow."
Ethan sighed then smiled, "The impact she has on our lives is like nothing else."
Shey nodded, "I hear you on that. Last night us girls talked about how she's been there for us. Then, Lynn brought up a good point. She feels that Andy feels like she's alone, even with all of us being around her."
Ethan was about to say something when Andy came down the stairs, "Okay, make sure the kids are in bed by nine, no junk food after seven, and figured they could use a home cooked meal tonight. I have a list of what they like. I even left a couple of recipes for you just in case they want something that mom makes for them."
"Okay, stop. We got this. You had guy time now go have girl time." He smiled giving his best friend a hug.
"I'll see you tomorrow asshole." She whispered.
"Have fun bitch." He smiled and they let go of each other. She smiled at Shey and nodded. Ethan watched as they got into the SUV and waited until they drove off. He closed the front door and went to the backyard. His heart melted when he saw Alex playing with the kids. He couldn't wait to start a family with the man he loves.

"They're here!" Hayley said coming into the kitchen with a smile.
"Perfect timing, everything's set up." Brittany smiled lighting the candles.
"This is so out of her comfort zone." Wendy said with a chuckle as she set down the last dish on the table.
"Do you think she'll like it?" Lynn asked and Kayla smiled gently touching her arm.
"She's going to love it." She told her and Lynn's hand covered hers and gave her a gentle squeeze. After a beat Kayla walked to the head of the table and sent down a glass of Andy's favorite drink. Wendy was pouring wine for everyone else. They heard voices coming close and they hurried with their wine glasses and stood in front of the table.
"I put grape juice in yours." Wendy whispered to Lynn and gave her a wink. Lynn smiled at Wendy and whispered a quick thank you.
Shey had her hands over Andy's eyes. She was guiding her to the dining room. When they entered she told her to keep her eyes closed. She stepped out from behind her and went over to Brittany who handed her a wine glass. When they were all settled Brittany told her it was okay for her to open her eyes.
Andy did and she let her eyes adjust and saw the six women standing in front of her with smiles on their faces, "What's going on?" She asked nervously.
Wendy stepped forward and cleared her throat, "Andrea, we wanted to celebrate you tonight. Your birthday is a few weeks away, but we just wanted to do this as a thank you for always being there."
Brittany took a step forward, "You put your family and friends before you. You've been our protector and our dearest friend."
"You showed me I had more potential in something that I didn't know I could excel at." Shey said as she took a step forward.
"You always told me that things would get better, and that it would take time to heal." Hayley said with a teary smile.
"You never missed a birthday and always praised my accomplishments even if they were just small ones." Kayla said with a smile.
"You taught me to open my heart again, and showed me that I was worth something to someone. You showed me how to love again, and you always stayed so strong even when things seemed dark. You were always our light at the end of the tunnel." Lynn said looking at the woman that changed her life almost three years ago.
"I don't understand." Andy said trying not to cry for the second time that night.
Wendy stepped up and took her big sister's hand in hers, "We know that you've been busy with a lot of things. We always tease you about it. We know that even though you have us, you still feel alone. Tonight we want to show that you're not alone. That it's okay to break down and open up to us. Let us be there for you, just like you've been there for us."
"You've touched so many people's lives, you don't even know just how impactful you are. You inspire people and you've changed lives for the better. So, before you go back to Virginia for your birthday, let the rest of us take care of you. Like you took care of all of us." Brittany said taking Andy's other hand.
At this point Andy could feel the tears running down her cheek. She didn't know just how much she meant to everyone. She was always taking care of her family and friends just to make sure they were okay. She never really thought about herself. She put everything else before her.
She was trying to let go of their hands so she could wipe away her tears, but the two held fast, "I need a minute." She whispered but Wendy shook her head.
"No, Andrea we're here. We're not going anywhere." She told her big sister. They all put down their glasses and just surrounded Andy.
Andy let out a sob and she finally let the pain she felt for the past year go. She didn't even know she was in pain until that moment. For the first time in a long time she felt like she belonged.
