The next day Jade left Gerard with Maggie while she popped out to see Jake. Grinning from ear to ear she opened the door with his key, she always had a spare.
”Jake?” she called, “Jake, quick we need to talk, I’m all bubbly with joy and I have to gloat” bursting into the living room she looked at Jake and fell over laughing.
”Laugh it up chuckles” a spotty Jake replied, “I’m never babysitting ever again. I cant believe I have chicken pox”
”Have you seen a doctor, you want to you know it can be more serious with adults”
”Itch me”. Jade laughed and fetched him a cup of tea. Once he was settled again, she rubbed some camomile lotion on his back and washed her hands.
”Don’t say I don’t look after you” she giggled, “Anyway listen, I’m going to Hollywood for a few weeks, Gerard has to film and I’m not being apart from him again”
”So the date went well then?” he smiled raising an eyebrow, “When’s the wedding?”
”Har har, anyway you don’t mind watching Tink for me do you?”
”Not at all, lets see what diseases she can give me” he laughed, “How is she?”
”Oh irritable, itchy, weepy. Gerard is great though he is keeping her mind off it. She had him attempting to do handstands last night”
”Nice, anything get broken”
”My lamp” jade put on a false smile, “But its all ok, I mean it wasn’t like I loved it or anything. Wasn’t like I treasured it, and he just stuck his big size 12 right into it!”
”Did you punish him then?”
”I’m plotting” she growled, “So do you want anything from the shops or anything?”
Jake shook his head, “I’m ok, just tired and itchy”
Jade left Jakes laughing at how life had its funny ways. Jumping in the car she drove to the nearest K Mart and did some shopping. When she got home, Gerard had a small magicians kit out and was sat cross-legged on the floor, attempting to fool Maggie but he wasn’t very good.
”I can see the tissue in your sleeve” she heard Maggie shout.
”Well lets all have 20 20 vision” he shouted back, “Oh mums back.” Gerard jumped to his feet dropping cards and colourful balls from his lap. Maggie trotted along beside him yawning. Holding out her arms to her mother she curled up on her shoulder.
”Have you had a nap today honey?” Jade asked feeling her forehead. “I think you need one. Come on.” Jade carried her upstairs, blowing a kiss to Gerard. They had bought a small portable Tv and placed it in her bedroom while she was ill, on the strict instruction it was to be removed as soon as she was fit. Jade hated the thought of her child being glued to a television all day, but there was little else Maggie could do. Pressing play, she tucked Maggie up and kissed her cheek.
”You alright darling?” she asked stroking Maggie’s hair. “Listen you know Daddy is leaving tomorrow don’t you” Jade flinched as Maggie jumped out of bed, grabbing at her.
”No please don’t make him go away again, I like daddy being here.”
”No no darling” jade coaxed, tears springing to her eyes, “He is going to work, in films, he’s not leaving us. We are going with him. Daddy wont ever leave again, he is back now”
Jade blinked back a tear and wondered just how damaged Maggie was because of their stupid argument. “Daddy isn’t going anywhere ok?”
Maggie nodded and climbed back into bed. Turning to the Tv she smiled and closed her eyes, hugging her small doll next to her. Jade watched her for awhile, then returned to Gerard to tell him her fears.

10 years later

“Margaret” Jade shouted, “Will you get in here ready for your dinner?”
Maggie turned to look at her mother and frowned, “I’m not even hungry!”
”In, right now young lady”
Maggie waved goodbye to her friends and ran across the road to her mother, “What time is Dad home?”
”He’s due in about half an hour. Do me a favour and set the table?”
”Sure thing dear mother” Maggie danced about the kitchen humming to herself, grabbing plates and napkins. “Oh Nick please move” Maggie shoved her little brother playfully, ruffling his hair. Jade turned back to her meal, tasting the sauce to see if it was right.
”Nick move your cars from under the table please, as funny as it was when your father slipped it did break your car so think fast”
Nick smiled up at her, collecting his cars in his arms and sticking his tongue out as his sister as he walked up to his bedroom.

Nick was 7 years of age, and a real stunner. Pictures of Gerard as a child were placed next to his and people had to look twice, Nick was Gerard but smaller. His soft brown hair grew in waves like his, another child with Gerard’s eyes, which he used to full effect on his mother time and time again to get his own way. Whereas Maggie had grown into a beautiful young woman, she had Gerard’s eyes but was the double of Jade. Already she was attracting attention from other boys in the street, her beautiful long black hair and her green eyes attracted everyone around. Nicks boyish charm could win everyone over. Jade smiled at how perfect her small family was, every now and then they all fought like cats and dogs but love inevitably brought them back together. Gerard was up state at the minute doing a television appearance, but he was due back any minute,. Jade stared at her watch and at the set table. Maggie was pointing at her work and waiting for praise.
”Aww you star thank you” Jade laughed, “Go wash your hands now, Dinner will be ready really soon” The door burst open and all three of them stopped to see who it was.
”Uncle Jake” Nick shouted, dropping his toys and running over to play fight with him.
”Nick please, get your cars and wash your face”
”Aww just one game?” Nick turned his eyes on his mother; every time Jake was round they had a kick about in the garden.
Jade smiled and pinched his cheek “you can have as many games as you want…after your tea. Move it squire” Nick pulled a face, but smiled and ran to fetch his toys.
”Take it you want a plate then?” Jade smiled hugging Jake to her.
”Wouldn’t say no, I timed this perfectly since I knew you would be cooking”
Maggie laughed, and fetched another plate and chair. “Would you like a drink Jake”
”What do you want?” he eyed her cautiously, “This is polite”
”Nothing dear uncle, nothing at all”
”Tickets then?”
”Please?”

Jake had bought himself a theatre a few years back, which now held operas and plays. It was very popular and Maggie had shown a real interest in the operas, her favourite film still remained “Phantom Of The Opera” but she went crazy when her friends drooled over the Phantom. “That’s my father, dear god” she would scream, “Ignore him listen to the music”
Maggie has been hinting heavily for dance lessons for her 13th birthday which was a few days away. Jade still had to discuss that with Gerard who as usual was extremely busy. At his prime age of 45 he had 2 Oscars under his belt and a dozen more films. After bond his popularity knew no bounds, he had soared from a good actor to a household name over night. Nowadays though he had cut back, preferring to relax with his family.

Jade turned to look out the garden and saw Callum, their huge Great Dane, chasing its tail. Of all the dogs Gerard could have chosen he had to pick the stupidest one in the shop, they all agreed he was too dopey by far. Tink had sadly passed away in Gerard’s arms after a difficult birth to a litter of kittens. Which had all went on to lovely homes save for one, which looked so like Tink Gerard wouldn’t be parted, that cat lived with Jake. Gerard had bought Pepper to console his children, and he loved the stupid mutt. Jade snarled, watching it run through the mud, knowing half the garden would end up all over her kitchen.

At 5 exactly Gerard turned his key in the door, walking into the hallway he dropped his bag, and saw Nick jumping down the steps.
”All right Dad” he grinned.
”Not bad mate yourself?” Gerard asked, smiling down at him. “Formalities over?”
”Yeah!” Nick yelled jumping into his arms, Gerard smiled, he loved his sons sense of humour.
”You been behaving yourself today?” he asked, “Where’s mummy?”
”I’m always good. Mums cooking and clock watching”
”I’m not late” he laughed, dropping Nick to the floor, “Lead on my man”
Gerard bounded into the kitchen and grabbed Maggie from behind, tickling her then hugging her. Winking at Jake he turned to Jade and pulled her into a kiss.
”Urgh” Maggie and Nick shouted. Maggie covered her eyes, “Cant you two get a room?”
”Yeah” nick shouted, “Your always kissing all over the house, nobody else’s mum and dad do that?”
”Yeah well nobody else’s mums are as beautiful as yours, you cant blame me” Gerard laughed, 2Have you washed your hands?”
Both children nodded, and sat at the table, Gerard helped Jade dish up and then sat down to eat.
”So how was the interview?” Jake asked. A huge thud at the door sounded but no one looked up, Callum had clearly run at the door again. “That dog is dense”
”Oh my pooch” Gerard cried, rising from his seat.
”Sit down” jade shouted, “Don’t let him in here, he will go mad”
”Aww but he is barking, I wont let him in I just want to see him” Gerard smiled, slipping carefully through the drool, they could hear Callum barking madly, and Gerard shout wildly.
”Match made in heaven,” Jake laughed.
”Yeah they are both as dense” Jade laughed, ignoring the look from Maggie who was a immense daddies girl. Gerard came back in grinning, huge muddy paw marks all over him. Washing his hands he sat back down and continued eating. As soon as the meal was finished Nick ran off to play football with Jake. Gerard went for a shower and Jade began the dishes. Maggie stuck around to help; once everything was clean Jade hugged her. “Thank you lady bug”
Maggie smiled, “AM I ok to go to Jane’s now?”
”Sure. Don’t be in too late.”
”Can I stay until 9 tonight, and ill call you before I leave?”
”I’ll come collect you if you want”
”thanks mum” Maggie kissed her cheek before grabbing her coat and running out the door. Jade walked up the stairs and sneaked into the bathroom, locking the door behind her, she threw off her clothes and pulled back the shower curtain.
”Mmm” Gerard growled, “Come to me”
