"And tonight will change our lives.
It's so good to be by your side .
But we'll cry,
We won't give up the fight.
We'll scream loud at the top of our lungs,
And they'll think it's just cause were young,
And we'll feel so alive."

Carrie chanced a glance at the Texan as they stopped at a stop sign. She was looking out the window with the most serene smile on her face. She had been that way the entire night. Carrie had never seen her laugh as openly as she did when Carrie had dropped her bottle of water at the movies, having it explode when it hit the floor, spraying them both. She couldn't wait to hear the raspiness of it again.
"What's on your mind?" Carrie asked curiously as she turned onto a narrow country road, starting the drive across Kelly's property.
"Y'all were right," Kelly admitted. "I really needed this."
"So, you had fun, then?"
"Tons," she nodded, causing Carrie to smile.
Carrie felt her tugging on her right arm, and she looked down to find Kelly pulling her arm away from the wheel, linking their hands together.
"What's wrong?" Carrie asked, pulling the car to a stop and putting it in park where they were.
"Nothing," she shook her head, feeling Carrie holding her hand securely. "I just...I can't help but feel guilty."
"About what?"
"Tonight," she frowned. "I had a lot of fun. I got to forget about things for a few hours, but Alex didn't. She's still in there. She's still sick. She can't just forget about it."
"You can't beat up on yourself for having fun," Carrie shook her head. "That's not fair."
"Can I beat up myself for not wanting to go back home yet?" she asked. "Cause I don't want to remember just yet."
Carrie ran her thumb soothingly over Kelly's hand, "You want to go for a walk?"
Kelly looked at her thoughtfully before replying, "Yea."

The two walked slowly over the grass, an arm around each other, Kelly holding a flashlight in her free hand.
"Hey, always be prepared, that's my motto," Kelly laughed as Carrie teased her about having a flashlight in her glove compartment.
"Were you even in the girl scouts?" Carrie asked.
"Nope," she shook her head. "I always did like the Lion King though."
"Huh?"
"Be prepared!" Kelly sang out, causing them both to erupt in a set of giggles.
"If your fans only knew how much of a nerd you truly are," Carrie shook her head.
"That's what I keep telling them," Kelly smiled as she led them to a wooded area.
"Whoa," Carrie stopped. "We're going in there?"
"I have a flashlight," Kelly pointed out.
"How about a gun...there could be bears in there."
Kelly laughed, "I thought you were a vegan. Isn't the point to stop violence against animals?"
"Yea, but that doesn't mean I want to get eaten by one."
"Come on," Kelly rolled her eyes, pulling her with the arm that was around her waist. "There's no bears I promise."
"How do you know?" Carrie asked, walking beside her fearfully. "I seriously doubt they can read the no trespassing signs."
"I just want to show you something," Kelly replied. "Don't worry. It's about to open up anyway."
Sure enough after a couple more minutes of walking, they finally reached a wide open area.
"Stay here," Kelly said, letting go.
"Wait...what?" Carrie asked, still holding onto her tightly.
"Trust me?"
Carrie nodded.
"And I mean it," Kelly smiled. "Don't move. I don't want you to fall in."
"Fall in?" Carrie choked as Kelly disappeared into the darkness.
Carrie's jaw dropped as a set of lights turned on, lighting up the lake before her magically. She looked to find Kelly standing on a dock that was lit by strands of Christmas tree lights wrapped around the posts, wearing a shy smile.
Carrie smiled back, walking to join her, "This is amazing."
"Yea," Kelly nodded, allowing Carrie to take her hand as they walked to the very edge of the dock, sitting down.
Kelly took off her shoes, rolling up her jeans, before she let her legs hang over the edge, her feet dipping in the warm water. Carrie laughed softly.
"You come here a lot?"
"Not as much as I'd like," Kelly admitted. "You wanna go swimming?"
"Huh?" Carrie asked, always amazed at how random the other girl's train of thought was.
"Let's go swimming," Kelly said, standing.
"In there?"
"Well, I mean, we could go in the pool, but I don't want Alex to wake up and see us cause then she'd want to come too."
"Aren't there fish?"
"It's not like there are any piranhas," Kelly laughed as she slipped off her shirt.
Carrie couldn't help but smile at the sight before her.
"You coming?" Kelly asked, taking off her pants.
"Well, that's a first," Carrie commented, noting that for once the short Texan was actually wearing underwear.
"Shut up," Kelly laughed before jumping into the lake, splashing Carrie. "Come on!"
"It's not cold?"
"It's Texas. It's summer."
Carrie rolled her eyes as she shrugged off her skirt. "I can't believe I'm doing this," Carrie muttered as she took off her halter top before jumping into the water. "Shoot Kell! It's freezing!" she exclaimed as she surfaced.
"Well, it is night time," Kelly pointed out with a grin, earning a splash of water in her face. "I know you didn't just do that."
"You know what? I think I did."
"Oh, you're dead," Kelly laughed, dunking her under the water, starting a drawn out water fight.
