Maggie skipped down the theatres chairs, stroking her fingers along the red velvet that covered the chairs. Glancing around she spotted her mum and Jake. They were sat talking about the new auditions they had just seen. Maggie smiled, her mother looked so involved and happy. Maggie had no idea how her mother did it, as well as being a full time mum and wife, she had bought into the theatre with Jake and helped run productions and decide about casting issues. A few plays she had written had been performed for the first time on this stage and have since gone off to bigger theatres. Creeping up beside her, Maggie slipped her arms around her mother’s waist. Jade smiled and placed one hand over Maggie’s but remained deep in conversation. Bored Maggie walked over to the stage and climbed upon it. Staring out into the empty auditorium she sighed, life on the stage would be wonderful. Life on film would be fantastic, her parents had both tasted these lifestyles and Maggie longed for it too. Ever since Gerard had passed her a script and she had run through some scenes with him she longed to lose herself in other parts. Maggie jumped as the doors burst open,. Gerard ran through with Nick on his shoulder, both singing the theme to the A team and running about laughing. Gerard reached Jade and saw the look on her face, dropping nick to the floor he shoved him away.
“Bad Nick, don’t mess around at work. How’s it going?” he asked grinning and hugging her. “Jake my man, where do we hide the coffee?
Nick laughed and reached out so Maggie could pull him up on stage.
”Mum when can we go home?” Nick whined.
”Soon sweetie, I need a few more minutes” Jade responded, taking Gerard’s hand and showing him what they were doing.
”Darling” Gerard whispered, “I’ve got those lessons sorted for Maggie, ii threw in a few singing ones as well. I’ve heard her singing to herself and I know she has a great voice, it needs practise”
Jade smiled. “She will love you”
Jake threw down his book and rubbed his temple, “Jesus, ok well I’ve had enough for now. We can arrange these tomorrow”
Jade smiled, “Alrighty then, we are off home. Nick, Maggie get your coats.”
It had been a long day for them all, Jade had been stuck in rehearsals all day, and Gerard had taken the kids to the park. But now as dusk arrived they were all ready to go home and relax.
”Take out for dinner I think” Gerard announced, causing cried of joy from the kids. “Come on Jade you can’t say you feel like cooking and I certainly don’t”

After dinner Nick insisted Gerard play one game of football with him in the garden while Jade and Maggie cleaned up.
”Leave that Mags I’ll sort it, you go and get your bath. School tomorrow”
Maggie grinned and ran off to relax.
”Goal” Jade heard Gerard scream, “Handball” Nick screamed back. Jade opened the window and watched them running about the garden, Gerard had his shirt over his head and was doing a lap of honour, “Scotland wins the world cup, oh yeah”
”Scotland are rubbish” Nick shouted, running as fast as he could as his dad chased him.
”What slander, come here” Gerard shouted, grabbing nick and spinning him round until he took his words back.
”Alright you two, come on. You’ll disturb the neighbours” Jade called, “Nick your due your bath and bed mister” Jade smiled, closing the window, knowing full well her words fell on deaf ears, Nick would do anything he could to avoid a bath. However as soon as Maggie appeared back downstairs in her dressing gown and PJs Gerard stopped the game and insisted Nick head indoors.

After the kids were in bed and asleep Jade finally collapsed on the sofa. Gerard pulled her into a hug and kissed her cheek. “You ok?”
”I’m shattered” Jade sighed, closing her eyes, “God its Maggie’s birthday in 2 days”
”Yeah but most of that is sorted, mum and everyone are coming over, we have the hall booked for her surprise birthday party. Don’t worry it will al be fine” he soothed, stroking her hair.
”The theatre is starting a new production” Jade moaned.
”Yes but you are a queen and will take it in your stride!”
Jade grinned up at him, climbing up she kissed his cheek. Gerard pulled her to his mouth and kissed her hungrily.
”Wow” she sighed, “We have been married over 12 years and you still kiss me like you need me”
”I always need you, I told you that” he smiled, running his hands down her body, “I love you just as much today as I did yesterday. As I did 6 years ago, as I did the first day we met”
”Mr. Seductive aren’t you” Jade mocked, kissing him and pushing herself against him.
”So next week Jake is moving in and you and I are off to Ireland for our anniversary”
”I hope the kids behave for him” Jade sighed, rubbing Gerard’s chest.
”Of course they will, we spawned some good ones there darling” Gerard smiled, “Lets go to bed” he grabbed her hand and pulled her up the stairs. Tip toeing past the kid’s bedrooms they fell giggling into the bed, kissing and hugging each other, poking each other and making themselves laugh.
”Gerard Jade laughed, trying to be quiet, “Get off, no please don’t”
Gerard growled and bit into her neck. Pulling up her skirt, he took her there and then, both fully clothed. Gerard groaned as he entered her, “How do you still make me so horny after this many years?” he grunted, kissing her, and pulling on her clothes.
”I have no idea” she sighed, “Oh god!”

Later on they lay naked in each other’s arms, “Jade” he whispered, kissing her neck. “I’m going to retire”
”What?” Jade cried sitting up, “But you love acting”
”I do, but I love my family more. I’m getting on now Jade, I want to be around when Nick scores his first goal for the school team. Or when Maggie stars in the school play, because we both know she will.”
”Gerard are you sure?”
”I’m certain, I want to be here with you. Help out more around the house and relax. Time for somebody else to feel the spotlight now” he smiled stroking her face, “We have been apart far too long. Mum once said to me, that we have the rest of our lives to grow old together, but we should live for now and have fun. I’ve had my fun, I want to grow with you”
”I want you hear too” Jade grinned, kissing him and stroking his neck. “What are you going to do beside acting?”
”Charity work? Community work? Anything and everything, so long as I can come home to my family every night” Gerard pulled Jade to him and hugged her close. “Plus we are going to have a great time with our new child”
”What?” Jade laughed.
”Oh yes I want a new one every year, more please, come on” he laughed, diving on top of her, “I demand children from you”
”You can kiss my arse, you want to give birth?” she laughed, tickling him.
”We will be ok me and you” he smiled, “So long as you behave, always do what I say and so on.”
”Oh really” she growled, grabbing his nipple and twisting it.
”Ow fuck Jade, Bad jade”
”mmm Bad” she growled pushing him onto his back, “Kiss me”
”Wont say no” he laughed.

Epilogue

Gerard did indeed retire with honours from his fellow actors. Jade continued writing and producing plays alongside Jake. Maggie fell into singing and dancing, and then began starring in her mother’s plays. Nowadays she prefers to act in films, credited as Butler’s girl. She is highly respected and loved in the film industry. Gerard did quit smoking after he had a cancer scare, which thankfully turned out to be negative but it changed his outlook immensely, after that ego boost another baby butler appeared in the family and little Ben is growing well in his loving family. Nick excelled in school, and passed all his exams with flying colours, he is now training to be a Doctor, but still enjoys the odd game of football with his father. Together they still live in Manhattan, as a family they defied all odds. With the love shared between their parents, the children couldn’t go wrong really.
