"I'm just trying to understand,
It's all in someone else's hands,
There's always been a bigger plan,
But I don't need to understand."

Carrie laughed, quickly grabbing Kelly and pulling her up to the surface, "How short are you?"
"Shut it," Kelly sputtered, choking on some water. "You're barely taller than me."
"I'm not the one that can't reach."
"There was a hole right there," Kelly insisted.
"Sure..." Carrie giggled, pulling Kelly closer to her and moving her wet hair out of her face. "You ok?"
"Yea, just kinda caught me off guard."
"How deep does this thing get?" Carrie asked as they waded out further into the lake, the water now up to Kelly's chin.
"I don't know, at least twelve feet in the middle."
"You need to get one of those rope swings," Carrie commented, wrapping her arm around Kelly's waist, holding her up as the water got a little deeper.
Kelly wrapped her arms around her neck, "We have one. We have that, and a zip line. You just can't see it in the dark."
"Isn't that kinda dangerous?"
"Hence why we don't use them at night," Kelly laughed, bobbing under the surface for a second.
"Come on," Carrie laughed, pulling her behind her and Kelly got onto her back, wrapping her legs around her waist, holding on tightly.
"I guess you're taller than I thought," Kelly frowned, resting her chin on Carrie's shoulder.
"What? You were only hanging out with me because you thought I was short like you, huh?"
"No," Kelly laughed.
"Oh, don't try to deny it," Carrie shook her head. "I'm totally on to you."
"Alright, alright you got me. That's totally why I keep you around. You make me not feel like a midget."
Carrie laughed, "Well, at least we're up front about our relationship."
Kelly giggled, turning her head to the side and placing her cheek on Carrie's shoulder.
"You're getting tired?"
"No, just relaxed."
"So, what's on the agenda for tomorrow?"
"I don't know," Kelly replied. "What do you think Alex would like to do?"
"Anything that involves you."
Kelly smiled, "She's really something special, huh?"
"Kell..." Carrie began tentatively. "You're being realistic about all this, right? I mean, she's really sick..."
"I know," Kelly replied softly.
"I just don't want you to get blindsided," Carrie explained.
Kelly nodded, and Carrie could feel her tears against her skin.
"Come see," Carrie said gently, sliding her around so that they were now facing each other. She hooked her arms underneath Kelly's legs, supporting her. "Talk to me?"
"I'd give anything to make her better," Kelly replied, not meeting her gaze.
"You've done everything you can," Carrie assured her, not sure how many more times she'd have to say it in order to have the shorter singer believe it.
"And what difference has it made?" Kelly asked, looking up, silent tears falling. "She's still going to die. I've changed nothing."
"Sweetie," Carrie cooed. "You've changed everything. You brought so much happiness into her life."
Kelly shook her head.
"Ok...what about Luke? Alex may not survive this, but he will, and you can't tell me that that little girl didn't make a huge impact on his life. That wouldn't have happened if it weren't you," Carrie pointed out, feeling Kelly's hands softly rubbing the back of her neck. How in the world could she do that? How could she soothe her when she was the one so clearly in need of comfort? "How about we head back? It's getting late, and you know we're going to need all the energy we've got to handle the munchkin tomorrow."
"Yea," Kelly agreed, allowing Carrie to slide her back around to her back before she treaded back to the dock. She wrapped her arms tighter around Carrie, holding on as she rested against the back of her neck.

"Joke me something awful
Just like kisses on the necks of 'best friends'."

"Who is it?" Kelly grumbled as Carrie reached over her to the bedside table to grab Kelly's phone that had started ringing.
"Your most favorite person in the world," Carrie replied cheekily, ignoring it for her.
Kelly mumbled a profanity, making Carrie laugh as the Texan wrapped her arms around her, pulling her down on top of her so she could snuggle into her warm body.
"We should get up," Carrie laughed.
Kelly wrapped her arms tighter around her waist, "It's too early."
"I know," Carrie replied, her breath on her ear as she tried to keep from squishing the girl beneath her. Not that it seemed she would mind from the way she was behaving.
"Then why? You're warm and soft, and I'm tired."
"Well if you wouldn't go on swimming expeditions at two in the morning," Carrie teased, able to push herself up enough so that she could look at her.
"You had fun, and you know it," Kelly smiled.
"I seriously did," Carrie nodded.
"So, lay back down."
"I think you may be forgetting something."
"Like what?"
"Like a certain little six year old that has the tendency of sneaking into rooms unnoticed."
"We're just sleeping," Kelly pointed out.
Carrie looked to where their bodies were molded together.
"So what? It's not my fault that I sleep better with you close to me."
Carrie smiled as she leaned down, kissing her forehead.
Kelly let out a deep breath, her hands warming over Carrie's back.
"We really should get up," Carrie said again, her lips grazing Kelly's skin.
"Because of Alex?"
"No...because you're really warm and soft," Carrie replied, kissing her cheek before pushing herself up.
Kelly looked at her, confused, but Carrie just shook her head, pointing to her lips. Kelly smiled, giving her an gentle peck on the lips.
Carrie smiled back, "I really did have fun last night."
"Good," Kelly nodded. "Me too."
