"Go Mary!" Kelly cheered as their table stood up, clapping when Mary's name was announced along with
the rest of the seniors'.
"Sexy!" Jessica called.
"You play that flute!" Lyndsey joined in.
Mary flashed them her middle finger before accepting her medal from the band director.
They snickered as they sat back down.
"Y'all are wrong for that," Boo laughed.
"She loves it," Kelly grinned, watching as Mary walked to their table, the concert now over. "Don't you, Mary?"
"Oh totally," she rolled her eyes, pinching Kelly's cheek playfully before sitting next to Lyndsey. "So honestly, guys, how bad was it?"
"I'd give it an seven," Jessica nodded.
"Yea, you know, y'all were in tune for the most part, so that's good," Carrie agreed. "May have even been a seven and a half."
"Y'all suck," Mary nodded.
"Aw, we're just messing," Lyndsey draped an arm around her shoulders, laughing. "You know we think you did great."
"How was my solo?"
"Perfect," Kelly gave her a thumb's up. "You were amazing, girl."
Mary smiled, hitting their fists together as they all stood.
"So what's the plans?" Boo asked, taking Jessica's hand in his own.
"Pizza?" Mary suggested. "I know the food had to be horrible."
"Pizza!" Lyndsey cheered.
Kelly giggled.
"Y'all are coming, right?" Mary turned to her and Carrie.
"Oh, actually, we were gonna head home," Kelly replied, turning to Carrie who nodded. "You don't mind do you? Care's had a headache all day."
"Yea, no, don't worry about it," Mary smiled, giving them both a hug. "Thanks so much for coming."
"You really did do a great job," Carrie noted.
"Thanks, girlie. Feel better, ok?"
"I will," Carrie nodded.
"Y'all have fun," Kelly waved, linking her arm with Carrie's as they walked away.
"That was fun," Carrie smiled as they made their way to her car.
"It was," Kelly agreed. "It was nice seeing Boo again. I hadn't seen him in forever."
"He's sweet."
"Yea, he and Jebbie are perfect together."
"Ashley didn't say much..."
"She didn't say anything."
"Are you ok?"
"Yea..." she smiled, looking at her. "I'm so over that mess."
"You sure?"
"Kinda."
Carrie wrapped her arm around her, holding her close to her side, "Ready to go back to my place?"
Kelly nodded, resting her head on Carrie's shoulder as they walked across the parking lot.

"Where are your parents?" Kelly asked softly, holding onto Carrie's hand as they walked into the house.
"They had to make a quick trip back to Oklahoma. Something about meeting with the lawyer..."
"When are they coming back?"
"Tomorrow night."
"And they left you by yourself?"
"My dad's idea. If I can make it through this weekend without getting into trouble or breaking the rules, then
I get to go to Alaska with you."
"And you having me here...is that breaking the rules?"
"Duh," Carrie laughed softly.
"So why didn't you tell me your parents were out of town?"
"I didn't find out about it until yesterday," she shrugged as they walked up the stairs to her room. "Why?" she paused at the top. "Are you uncomfortable being here with just us?"
"No," Kelly shook her head. "It's nice not having to worry about what comment your mother is going to make as soon as I walk in the door."
Carrie frowned.
"I'm joking," Kelly smiled, kissing her softly before opening the door, leading the way into the upstairs.
Carrie grinned as Kelly tugged her towards the bed, "Do you want to change?"
"Nah, I'm actually digging this dress thing," she slid off her shoes before hopping onto the bed. "It's nice and breezy."
Carrie laughed softly, joining her on the bed. She sat back against the headboard, motioning for Kelly.
Kelly crawled onto her lap, leaning back against her chest as Carrie wrapped her arms around her stomach. "So you had fun tonight even though it wasn't a date?"
"Yea," she kissed the top of her shoulder.
"Me too," Kelly nodded. "I love you."
"I love you too," Carrie placed a kiss on the side of her neck before placing another right below it.
Kelly found her eyes closing as Carrie's lips lightly made their way along her skin. She tilted her head to the side, biting her lip softly as Carrie's hand smoothed across her stomach.
"You know," Carrie rested her chin on the Texan's shoulder. "I think I have an idea for our first date."
"Oh yea?" Kelly tilted her head in the other direction, resting it against Carrie's.
"Yea."
"You're gonna tell me what it is?" she laughed softly.
"Wouldn't you rather a surprise?"
"No."
"Too bad," Carrie laughed, tickling her stomach playfully.
Kelly giggled, squirming in her arms.
Carrie kissed her cheek, wrapping her arms back around her.
"Can I ask when this date is going to be?"
"Tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?"
"For lunch," Carrie nodded. "Well...brunchish."
"Brunchish?"
"Yes, I made it up."
"I like it," Kelly turned to kiss her on the lips.
"Good," Carrie kissed her back. "Because it's gonna be great."
"Yea?"
"Yep," she kissed her again. "And romantic."
Kelly smiled.
"And perfect," she kissed her a third time. "And you're gonna love it."
"I can't wait," Kelly brought a hand up to her cheek, pressing their lips together firmly.
Carrie smiled as she pulled back, kissing the tip of her nose.
"Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?" she stroked her cheek.
"Not nearly as beautiful as you," Carrie replied, kissing her forehead.
Kelly covered her mouth as she yawned.
"Tired?"
She shook her head, trying to stifle another yawn.
"Yes, you are," Carrie laughed softly. "I know you worked a double shift yesterday, and you probably worked the lunch shift today didn't you?"
Kelly nodded, guiltily.
"It's ok that you're tired, you know."
"Care...we didn't come here so I'd fall asleep on you."
"Says who? Maybe this was my plan all along. I think you are adorable when you sleep, and you know I love holding you, so maybe this is exactly why I brought you here."
"But I wanna keep kissing you."
"I wanna keep kissing you too."
"Good," she smiled. "Then we're agreed."
"Yes...we're gonna get some sleep and pick up this kissing thing in the morning."
"Care..."
"What? That's what dates are for, aren't they? They're just a reason to kiss the other person at the end of the night."
Kelly sighed.
"It's ok," Carrie reached up, brushing her bangs out of her eyes.
"I'm sorry," she yawned again.
"There is nothing for you to apologize for," Carrie shook her head.
"I am kinda tired..." Kelly finally relented.
Carrie smiled, pulling the covers from out beneath them, laying down, "Come on."
Kelly laid down beside her, snuggling into her side. She kissed her cheek softly, "I love you."
"I love you too," Carrie wrapped an arm around her, holding her close. "Now get some sleep because I plan on spending all morning enjoying you and your kisses, so I need you to be well rested."
Kelly giggled as she wrapped an arm around her stomach, hugging her tightly.

Kelly's eyes slowly opened at the feeling of Carrie's lips pressing against her own. She smiled sleepily at the taller blonde who was leaning over the bed, "I love waking up like that."
Carrie kissed her again, "Good, because I love doing it."
"What time is it?"
"Ten."
"How long have you been up?"
"A couple hours," she shrugged.
"I didn't feel you get up."
"You're not the only one that's sneaky," Carrie smiled. "Plus, you were seriously out cold."
"I was tired," Kelly nodded.
"And how do you feel now?"
"Very well rested," she grinned, remembering their previous night's conversation.
Carrie laughed softly, "Well, that's good. Why don't you take a nice hot shower? I have a few more things I need to take care of."
"For our date?"
"For our date," Carrie nodded, loving the way the Texan's eyes danced at the word 'date'.
"But I don't have Jebbie here to make me beautiful," she pouted softly.
"You don't need Jebbie or anyone else to make you beautiful," Carrie shook her head. "Trust me, you look so beautiful right now, I wanna curl up in bed and just kiss you all day."
"You should...that sounds like a good idea."
"We have a date," Carrie reminded, brushing her thumb across her cheekbone.
Kelly's eyes closed in content.
Carrie leaned down, kissing her temple, "I'll be downstairs when you're ready."
"What should I wear?"
"I'll take care of it."
Kelly nodded, snuggling into her pillow as Carrie placed a kiss on her cheek. She watched the Oklahoma native walk away, biting her lip as she felt a smile spreading across her face.

Kelly stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the dress she had worn the previous night that had been laid out on Carrie's bed when she got out of the shower. It felt warm against her skin, and she figured Carrie must have run it through the dryer to freshen it up while she was in the bathroom. She fussed with her hair, trying to pin it up like Jessica had the night before, but eventually gave up on that, settling on putting it in a low pony tail, hoping that the slight, natural curl in her hair made it look nice enough. She dug through Carrie's drawer of makeup, trying to remember all of the things Jessica and Ashley had tried to teach her over the past few years. She shut the door agitatedly, knowing there was no point. No matter how hard she tried, she'd only end up looking like a clown. She found a tube of chapstick, instead, running it over her lips.
She took a deep breath, looking back up in the mirror, praying that Carrie had meant it when she said that she didn't need anyone else to make her look beautiful. She looked down at her sandals that were on the floor, deciding against them, remembering the way the back strap had rubbed against her ankles the night before.
Kelly walked back out the bathroom, taking another deep breath before opening the door to the stairs, slowly walking down them, barefoot. "Care?"
"In here," Carrie replied from the dining room.
Kelly turned to her right at the bottom of the stairs, walking through the kitchen to the dining room. She paused, smiling as Carrie turned to her.
"Hey," Carrie smiled nervously.
"Hey," she swallowed hard, her eyes glued to the other girl, not even registering the table that was decorated beside her. "You look..."
Carrie took a steadying breath before crossing the room and taking her hand, "You look even better than you did last night."
Kelly smiled.
Carrie kissed her softly before leading her to the table.
"Oh wow, Care..." Kelly gasped, taking in the candle lit table. "You did all this?"
"Yea," she nodded, holding out her chair for her before sitting in the one next to her.
Kelly slid their hands back together, "It's perfect."
"I'm glad you like it," she squeezed her hand. "Are you hungry?"
"Starved," Kelly nodded. "Oh wait...I'm not supposed to admit that, huh?"
Carrie giggled, "Admit it all you want, because I'm starving too. And I know I said this would be brunch, but I only really know how to make one thing, and it's this noodle dish we learned to make in home ec my freshmen year...I hope that's ok."
"You don't give yourself enough credit," Kelly smiled. "You made a salad too."
"It's one of those that comes all in the bag," Carrie admitted.
"Nobody else has to know that," Kelly replied, leaning to her to kiss her.
Carrie smiled, taking the lid off of the dish of noodles before them.
"Dang, that smells good," Kelly noted.
"I know," Carrie laughed. "That's why I'm starving. I had to smell it the whole time I was making it."
Kelly giggled, reaching out to serve her.
Carrie placed a hand on her arm, halting her. She smiled as she caught her eyes, leaning to her and kissing her.
"Mm..." Kelly pulled back. "Thank you for this."
She shrugged, "I wanted it to be special."
"It is," Kelly nodded, kissing her. "I love you."
"I love you too," Carrie replied as Kelly kissed her again before going back to serving her then serving herself.
"Let's dig in, huh?"
"Definitely," Carrie grinned.
++++++++++
"So?" Carrie asked curiously.
"That was so good," Kelly nodded, pushing her plate away.
"What would you say to dessert?"
"Did you make this dessert?"
"Yes."
"I'd say, I'm very surprised that the house didn't burned down."
Carrie laughed, "I think I have majorly improved since our last baking debacle."
"Well then, I say bring on the dessert," Kelly smiled, standing.
Carrie stood as well, blowing out the candles before following her into the kitchen.
"Cookies..." Kelly walked to the pan of chocolate chip cookies that were on the stove. "Look at you, making cookes all by yourself."
Carrie smiled, putting a few cookies on the plate and sticking them in the microwave for a few seconds, "Cookies are always better warm."
"Ain't that the truth," Kelly laughed as Carrie pulled the cookies back out, offering one.
"Careful."
"Why? Did you try them before hand?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, and they're good, but I meant that they might be hot," she giggled.
Kelly grinned, picking up a cookie off the plate and taking a bite, "Mm...Care...these are so good..."
"Yea?"
Kelly nodded, taking another bite, "Like, kick ass good."
Carrie laughed softly, reaching up to wipe the melted chocolate off her lip.
Kelly's eyes moved over her face before catching her gaze.
Carrie placed her hands on the Texan's hips, holding her lightly as she tilted her head down, kissing her.
Kelly reached out, tugging on the front of Carrie's dress, pulling her closer.
Carrie pulled back an inch, slightly breathless as Kelly kissed the corner of her mouth, "How about we go upstairs...watch a movie or something..."
Kelly nodded, feeling Carrie take her hand and lead her back up to her room.
Carrie closed the door behind them, grabbing the remote off the coffee table and turning on the television, switching it to a random country music channel that was playing videos, "This ok?"
"Does it matter?" Kelly asked curiously.
"No," she smiled, pulling her back to her and kissing her again.
Kelly pushed up on her toes, trying to deepen the kiss.
Carrie pulled back, sitting down on the sofa behind her. She tugged on Kelly's hand, pulling her down so that she was straddling her lap. "Hey."
"Hi," Kelly smiled.
"I love you," Carrie whispered.
"I love you too," Kelly took a nervous breath.
"You know..." Carrie swallowed hard. "Nothing has to happen...that's not why I brought you here when my parents aren't here."
"I know," Kelly nodded.
"Promise you'll tell me if you feel uncomfortable?"
"I promise."
Carrie smiled softly as she pressed their lips together, feeling Kelly's fingertips against her face. Her hands smoothed over the shorter girl's sides.
Kelly tilted her head, deepening the kiss as Carrie's hands slid down her thighs over the thin material of her dress. Her breath hitched at the feeling of her fingertips against her bare skin. She held Carrie's face with both of her hands, kissing her firmly.
Carrie's head spun, her hands slowly traveling up Kelly's thighs under her dress. The soft skin beneath her fingertips caused her heart to race in her chest. Her hands moved up, over her hips, holding her waist as she laid back, taking the Texan with her.
Kelly placed a hand on the sofa beneath Carrie, trying to support herself as Carrie's hands smoothed over her back, beneath her dress. She took her bottom lip between her teeth, tugging, before kissing her again, their tongues pushing together. She moved her hand, letting Carrie pull her down completely on top of her. She moaned softly as their bodies pressed together, Carrie's hands having free roam over her body.
Carrie broke the kiss, nudging Kelly's chin with her nose, getting her to tilt her head upward so that she could get to her neck. Her lips passed over the shorter girl's skin quickly, her body heating up as Kelly's hips rolled against hers. Her hands smoothed over the back of her thighs as her lips made their way back up to her mouth, kissing her heatedly.
Kelly moaned into her mouth, her hands holding Carrie's face, trying to kiss her as deeply as she could. The television was too loud and both of them were too caught up in each other to be able to hear the sound of a car pulling up or the front door opening or even the footsteps coming up the stairs.
Carrie groaned as Kelly shifted on top of her, her body immediately reacting to the feeling of it. Her hands slid up to her lower back, holding her down against her, wrapping one of her legs around one of Kelly's.
"What in God's name is going on here?" a shrill voice questioned.
Carrie quickly broke the kiss, looking up at Kelly who's eyes were filled with confusion, "Oh God..."
"Get off of her," Carole demanded.
Carrie removed her hands from underneath Kelly's dress, cradling her face, "It's ok."
"I said get off of her!"
Carrie sat up at the feeling of Kelly being pulled off of her, "Mom..."
"What the hell is this, Carrie?" Carole gripped Kelly's arm tightly.
Kelly looked back and forth between them, her heart still pounding in her chest, the feeling of Carrie's hands still burning against her skin.
"Mom...I..." Carrie couldn't find the words to form a coherent sentence.
"You..." Carole turned on Kelly, squeezing her arm.
Kelly winced.
"Mom, you're hurting her," Carrie fussed, reaching out for Kelly as she stood.
"Don't," Carole pointed at her. "Don't you dare touch her. Don't you dare touch her ever again."
Carrie took a nervous step back.
"This is your doing," Carole turned back to the short Texan. "I knew you were trouble the first time I saw you, and now you've gone and corrupted my daughter--"
"Mom, it wasn't her," Carrie argued, following her as Carole pulled Kelly out of the room and down the stairs, grabbing her phone on the way out.
"--you no good, piece of trash--"
"Mom, let her go," Carrie demanded, unable to remember a time when she had seen Kelly look so helpless. "This isn't her fault."
"What's going on in here?" Stephen asked as he wheeled into the foyer.
"Stay out of this, Stephen," Carole snapped.
"Carrie?" he turned to his daughter.
"Stephen..." Carole warned.
Carrie felt her eyes immediately starting to water, "Daddy, I love her."
Stephen's eyes widened.
Carole tightened her grip on Kelly's arm, shaking her slightly, "You did this...you did this to her. I told her you were no good...I told her you were filth."
"Care..." Kelly whimpered, feeling Carole's nails dig into the back of her arm.
"Mom!" Carrie exclaimed, noting the pain in the Texan's eyes. She reached out, taking Kelly's hand, "Let her go."
"Don't touch her!" Carole replied, tugging Kelly towards the door.
Carrie placed her cell phone in Kelly's hand, whispering, "Call Jebbie. Don't walk home by yourself. I love you."
Kelly nodded, her entire body trembling as Carrie brought her hand to her lips, kissing it before Carole pushed her out the door, slamming it in her face. Kelly stood there, breathless, trying to comprehend what had just happened. She shook her head, finding herself. "Care!" she called out, jiggling the door knob, finding it was lock. "Care!" she banged on the door.
"Kell, it's ok!" she heard Carrie call back. "Go home, baby!"
Kelly heard a soft thud as something was pushed against the door, "Care, I love you!"
"I love you too," came the soft reply from the other side of the door.
Kelly tensed at the clear slap of skin hitting skin.
"Never!" Carole yelled. "Never say those words again, do you understand me!"
"Care!" Kelly banged louder on the door, feeling tears running down her cheeks, realizing that it was Carrie that had been pushed against the door. "Care!"
"Baby, it's ok...just go home," she heard Carrie start to cry from the other side. "Please, baby, just go home..."
"Stop calling her that!" Carole demanded harshly.
Kelly brought a shaky hand to her mouth as she fought back a sob. She looked down at her other hand, finally registering the cell phone. She dialed Jessica's number, bringing the phone to her ear as it started to ring.
"Hello?"
"Jebbie..." she cried into the phone, backing away from the door.
"Kelly? Is that you?" Jessica questioned. "Kelly, what's wrong? Where are you?"
"Jebbie, I need you to come get me...I don't know what to do..."
"Where are you?"
"Walking to my house..."
"From?"
"From Care's...her mom walked in on us...she freaked...I don't know what to do..."
"Ok, it's ok," Jessica tried to soothe. "I'm gonna come get you, ok? Just don't wonder off too far."
"What about Care?"
"She's going to be ok," Jessica assured.
"Her mom was so mad..."
"I'm gonna be right there, Kelly, ok? Like five minutes, I promise."
"Jebbie..." she felt herself crying harder.
"I know, sweetie...don't worry, I'm coming get you," Jessica promised.
