A/N: Okay, so I'm such a bad person, I've put off doing my homework / studying all day to try and write (and I had friends over). So with the much anticipation, here's the next chapter in my regurgitation catch ups. Hopefully I'll finish the catch ups tomorrow (homework/studying/practice/etc willing *crosses fingers*). On to the chapter. *hugs* Enjoy!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Rebecca had gotten up early that morning to go finish up the last minute touchups and such with April and Ivy. She didn’t wake Cat up because she had been tossing and turning all night, only to be woke up several times throughout the night / morning by calls from her mother about any number of things concerning the wedding. But luckily for Becca, she was able to fall asleep in a decent manner of time. And so after another quick shower (for fear of the wrath of April or Ivy should they need the bathroom while she was using it), Becca dressed in a pair of comfortable jeans and t-shirt before heading downstairs to get something to eat before she would have to head out to run all the errands she had in store for the morning.
“Ivy darling, at least try to eat something. It will only make you sicker than you already are if you don’t try.”
“Mama, please ---“
Before Ivy could finish her sentence, she rushed off in the direction of the nearest bathroom, narrowly missing Becca who had just come around the corner into the kitchen. She covered her yawn and took the cup of tea that her mother held out for her. She sat down at the island and rested her chin in her hand. She was still half asleep, but she knew she would have to wake up soon enough. After all, she would have to go out and help get the dresses over to her house from Viviana’s boutique, make sure the florist and caterer were both settled and set up already, or worse, that Cat’s mother hadn’t completely redone the wedding over night. Not to mention she would have to eventually run and take Ryan his gift from Cat.
Ivy came back into the kitchen, looking paler than before, and shook her head at the sight of Becca’s tea. “Please, Becs, while we’re out this morning, can we forgo your normal shopping stops?”
Becca frowned just slightly at the thought of having to forgo her normal stop at her favorite snack shop in town, although she nodded. After all, she probably wouldn’t want to be around food if she were sick as well. She gave a resigned sigh and took one of the muffins that her mother had finished baking earlier and managed to get halfway through it before both Ivy and April were downstairs and apparently overly eager to leave and get all the errands done so they could both try to get back to some sense of normalcy while getting ready for the wedding. So before she could properly finish her scant attempts at breakfast, she was pulled out by the two pregnant women.
~*~
After what seemed like endless hours, Becca finally pulled back up in her driveway, the two pregnant women rushing out, both headed in what could only be the direction of the bathroom. By the time she reached the kitchen, she heard the heated voices of April and Ivy in argument and shook her head, reaching for a pair of mugs to get more tea.
“Those two. We would have been finished with alterations long ago if they hadn't been puking every five minutes. It's like synchronized clockwork!”
Something in this seemed to startle her mom, because in the midst of her cup of coffee, she rushed over and rinsed out the mug, heading off herself. Becca had never seen her mom not finish her cup of coffee, so it was of course a real reason for her to be worried.
“I am actually meeting the mothers of you girls to prepare, and also to keep Jacqueline from having kittens. I guess I'll see you at the church?”
Becca watched confusedly as her mom rushed and grabbed her keys and purse before rushing out of the kitchen after leaving a pair of quick kisses on both Cat and her cheeks. She gave Cat a confused glance, only gaining a shrug in response.
“Did Mama just leave?” Ivy asked as she walked back into the kitchen, looking a little paler than normal. But then again, she had been sick for who knows how long with the morning sickness. Although at least she gave Becca a small smile as she took the offered cup of tea.
“Yeah, she had plans to get ready with the wedding with the mothers. She said something about keeping an eye on Jacqueline...”
“Oh Mother, she's been crazy from the second she woke up. She was trying to get me to wake up at the crack of dawn before I put the phone on silent. Good God, I did get an earful. How are you feeling Ivy?”
“Better than she's going to feel if she ever tries to lock me out of a bathroom again.”
Before Ivy could answer Cat’s question, April came back around the corner, giving Ivy a death glare. Having dealt with both pregnant women all morning, their arguing was already starting to wear on Becca’s nerves, which were already a little worn because of the wedding chaos.
“For the love of God, what am I supposed to do, stand aside and give you first choice of bathroom now?”
“Yes.”
Becca glanced up from her tea to see Cat’s reaction and shook her head. “You don’t want to know” she mouthed back. It had been hell all morning between the two, constantly bickering and arguing back and forth between the two of them, not to mention the snapping at everyone else unfortunate enough to get caught in the cross fire.
“Hello girls, I come bearing doughnuts.”
Becca glanced up to see that her brother had walked into the kitchen during the argument, carrying a large box of what must be the donuts in question. Now if she had one weakness when it came to sweets, it would probably be donuts. And from the looks of the contents, it seemed that her brother had gotten her favorite kind as well. So she quickly reached and grabbed one of the lemon filled donuts and leaned back against the counters, well out of the way of the two pregnant women’s paths as they rushed off towards the bathrooms.
She giggled as the two pregnant women rushed back and forth from the bathrooms to the kitchen. Although she knew that it probably wasn’t such a good idea. But then again, she wasn’t really bothering too much on how good of an idea it was. Although at the heated words between April and Pete, she knew that things were going to get nasty if her brother stuck around much longer.
“I think it's best that you leave before she comes back to kill you. Besides, you're supposed to be getting ready with the boys...”
Becca grinned as he snapped a picture of her, still holding the second or third half-eaten donut in her hand. Although at Cat’s reaction to his comments about the picture he had snapped, Becca knew that either Pete would have to leave or risk getting injured, and with the reappearance of April from the bathroom, things were obviously heading down hill for him the longer he stayed in the house with the girls.
“And this is my cue to make my escape. Oh Cat, before I forget... Ryan sent me with this. I bid you ladies adieu.”
Pete almost tossed a small box at Cat before rushing out of the kitchen, obviously having realized his own danger of hanging around for much longer. As Cat reached for the small gift box, Becca managed to keep from grinning too brightly, already knowing what was inside even before Cat opened it.
“I forgot to give Pete my gift for Ryan...”
Becca smiled and gave Cat’s shoulders a light reassuring squeeze. “If we get ready fast enough, I'll run in and drop it off on the way to the styling salon. Open it.”
She already knew what Ryan had gotten Cat, but she was anxious to see her friend’s reaction to the gift. Besides, if she did have to run over and give Ryan his gift, that might mean she could get at least a few minutes with Patrick before the total chaos of the day went on. And with all the stress and havoc that had already happened, Becca knew that seeing Patrick would be a welcome relief, along with a quick burst of fresh non-stress that would help her get through the rest of the day.
As Cat opened the box, Becca smiled seeing the note that Ryan had wrote and stuck in the box with his gift, a diamond and sapphire bracelet. ‘Kitten, they say that diamonds are a girl's best friend, but the sapphires reminded me too much of your eyes. Besides, weren't you in need of something blue? I'll see you later, looking forward towards eternity. Ry.’ Cat instantly burst into tears at the sight, along with April and Ivy, which was a bit of a shock, as neither of the girls were big on emotional displays, particularly tears.
“April, are you crying?”
“No no, there's an eyelash in my eyes, I think I'll go to a mirror to fish it out.”
Becca giggled under her breath as April rushed off to the bathroom, no doubt to cry in private. She gave Cat a quick hug before reaching and quickly finishing off another of the lemon filled donuts that were still laying on one of the counters in the box. Ah, the sugary goodness.
“You changed him Cat, from the moment he set eyes on you.”
Becca grinned at Ivy before taking the bracelet out of the box and pinning it on Cat’s wrist, as she seemed to be the only one not currently blind from their own personal waterworks. But then again, she had a little forewarning about the gift.
“I admit, he has good taste.” Becca gave Cat a wink, grinning at the bracelet. Yep, she had been right in assuring Ryan that she would love it.
“When did you find the time to go shopping with Ry?”
Becca shrugged with a smirk. “Last week, when your mother held you captive for wedding planning. Ryan wanted to escape the future mother-in-law, though he needed a girl's opinion on the jewelry. So, I went with him. Believe it or not, he actually was the one that spotted the bracelet.”
“I believe it.” Cat lightly ran a finger over the bracelet, a soft smile on her face as she did so. Becca grinned seeing the soft sentimental look that meant Cat was miles away in her mind.
“Holy shit, aren't we supposed to be somewhere in an hour?”
Becca turned as she heard April’s voice from the doorway. Cat jumped up and rushed off to get dressed, as she was the only one still in pajamas. As the other two rushed about finishing up getting ready for the hair and such, Becca grabbed the last of the lemon filled donuts and finished it off before Cat rushed back downstairs. The outfit she was wearing caused Becca to giggle a little.
“You're wearing the outfit you were wearing when you met Ryan.” Becca pointed down to the worn pair of jeans and old t-shirt that said ‘staff’ across the front and back of it from her time back as a member of the security and technical staff of the various festivals and such that were around the town she used to live in. One such festival having been when the couple had met.
“To think, I only grabbed the first clothing I could reach, think it was fate?”
Becca nodded with a grin. “Yes, Cat, it's most definitely fate...Yet another wonder of fate.” She giggled before seeing Ivy and April rush back into the kitchen, now all ready to head out to their hair appointments. “Alright, lets go.”
