"Been around the world
And found that only
Stupid people are breeding."

"Hey," Jason nodded to Carrie and Alex as he walked up to them in one of the halls. "Y'all seen Kelly?"
"No, we were just looking--" Carrie began, but was cut off by a series of expletives coming from a nearby room.
Alex's eyes grew wide, and Carrie placed her hands over the small child's ears.
"Found her," Carrie smiled nervously, picking Alex up in her arms.
Jason frowned, leading the way to the room her voice was coming from and opening the door.
"No," Kelly said firmly as she paced back and forth. "I really don't give a damn!...I told y'all I was taking the week off...No, that's not more important than this...How can you even say that?...How ignorant do you have to be to not understand how crass you're being?...You know what? Whatever, get over it. I'm not coming, and if that means that he won't work with me, than fine. I don't want to work with some heartless ass of a producer anyway!" Kelly exclaimed, hanging up her phone, and tossing it on her bed before turning around to find the three of them staring at her.
She noted Alex's nervous look, and she took a calming breath, holding her arms out. Alex immediately reached out, and Carrie handed her over. Kelly hugged the small girl tightly, holding back the frustrated tears that were forming.
"A year and half, right Jay?" she said, making sure to keep the edge from her voice as Alex clung to her.
"A year and a half?" he questioned.
"Two more albums," Kelly reminded, looking him in the eyes.
"Oh yea," he nodded. "A year and a half. Less if you want."
"Good," she replied. "Get ready to start helping me shop around for a new contract. I don't care if I have to start the label myself--I'm not working for those people anymore."

"Movers shakers and producers:
Me and my friends understand the future.
I see the strings that control the systems."

"So what exactly is going on?" Jason asked as they sat around the table.
Kelly sighed, her head resting in her hands. She had convinced Alex to lay down for a little while for a nap so that she could have this conversation without worrying about what was said in front of her, "There's this producer in L.A. that they want me to work with."
"Who?"
"I don't even know the guys name--it's someone they picked out," she replied.
"Ok, so besides that, what's the problem?"
"Apparently he's only available over the next few days."
"Well, did you try telling them what was going on?" Carrie asked.
"Yea."
"Reasonably?" Jason asked.
"I was on the phone with them for half an hour before y'all walked in," Kelly reminded.
"Talk about classless," Carrie shook her head.
"Yea, well, it's not like I expected anything more from them."
"You know, that really wasn't a bad idea," Jason commented, thoughtfully.
"What wasn't?"
"You starting your own label."
Kelly rolled her eyes, "I was only kidding Jason."
"But why not? I mean, that way you wouldn't worry about having to please anybody but yourself."
"And I'd have to worry about the entire business side of this industry, and if you think the music side is bad, you haven't seen anything yet."
"So? You can hire someone to deal with all that."
"I'm just a singer Jay," Kelly shook her head. "Besides, I can barely handle my own career, you expect me to control other artists as well?"
"Who says you have to have other artists?"
"Isn't that the point of a label?"
"Well, fine, then get like one or two major artists," he shrugged. "That way you don't have to worry about making their careers take off."
"Yea, because every major act will be jumping at the bit to join my label," Kelly rolled her eyes.
"I would," Carrie said honestly.
Kelly smiled at her.
"It's just something to think about in case you don't find a deal that you're happy with," Jason said.
"If I say I'll think about it, will you not push the issue?"
"Deal," Jason smiled, standing. "Now, I'm going fix me a sandwich. Y'all want anything?"
Both Idols shook their heads, watching as he walked out.
"Switching labels...that's a big deal," Carrie commented.
"Yea, well it won't be for a while, but I just can't stay where I am."
"You know, it's not that all common for artists to start their own labels now a days."
Kelly shook her head, "All I wanna do is sing."
Carrie smiled, "Well, I don't think you're going to have to worry about not finding another deal, anyway. Labels will be in such a fight over you, they'll be offering you the world in order to get you to sign to them."
"Let's hope so."
"So...two albums?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded. "That's all I have left in my contract. Jason and I were talking about this the other day. Remember how when we first started hanging out I said that all I had was a couple background vocals to lay down?"
"Yea, and then you started writing like a crazy person, and wanted to make sure you had the best record possible, so you put it on hold."
"Yea, but I mean, I have way more than enough great songs to make the album I want. So, I'm just going to go ahead and finish it off with what I have."
"What about all the new songs?"
"Well, all the songs, save for the ones that I've written in like the past two weeks are done. In the studio. Finished. So, we'll use what we have up until then for this record."
"And then your next record you can start from the songs you've written these past two weeks, and in the next few months, making you able to put out your fifth album in about a year or so," Carrie nodded.
"That's the plan," Kelly nodded as well, before looking at her curiously.
"What?"
"If I started a label, you'd really join? You seriously trust me enough for that?"
"Of course I do. You know that."
"Not as a person," Kelly shook her head. "Musically. You'd trust me enough to put your career in my hands?"
Carrie couldn't help but smile, "Kell, I don't know what those execs have been brainwashing you with, but you are seriously one of the most talented artists out there. You just...you get it."
"Thanks," Kelly smiled back. "That really means a lot to me."
"It's the truth," she shrugged. "So, you want to go check on Alex?"
"Yea," she nodded, taking the hand that Carrie offered.
