A/N: Okay, so I am HORRIBLY sorry that this update has been so insanely psychotically long in getting here. Please forgive me. *puppy dog eyes* My excuse is that life just got too crazy to keep up with. But last night I had the amazing fortune to be in the same room as not only the main band in this story, but also three other insanely talented (and sexy) bands as well. Yes, I was at the Young Wild Things Tour (as a birthday present from Cat and others). So while screaming until my throat was bleeding and having the most fun of my life so far, I had spurts of plot bunny genius and had to get back to this lovely story again. I should only have one or two more of catch up chapters to write before I get to some chapters that I wrote back in the summer (that Cat and Ivy have already posted to). Then it will come to new stuff! I'm also working on the sequel as well (in ideas and rough sketches for the chapters, really).
So without any more mindless author drivel and such, here's the newest chapter for you, my amazing readers. I love you all! *cheers at having 100 reviews* Sally, you always make me laugh. Enjoy! [And again, if you want to read the story of the actual wedding, check out Cat's story. You won't regret it!]
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The wedding had been gorgeous, Becca having to take the handkerchief from the small belt of her dress and dab at her eyes several times throughout the service. Becca had even noticed Spencer having some moisture in his eyes during the service. But of course it was still an event, with Petey even making a comment, rather loudly, after the kiss the newlyweds had shared, causing everyone to laugh a bit, even Cat’s mom seemed ever so slightly amused.
After showering the couple with birdseed and showing them off in the limo they had rented (complete with cans, flowers, and other decorations), the remaining members of the wedding party separated and made their own way off to the reception. Petey had disappeared with the boys almost right after the wedding, so Ivy rode with Patrick and Becca to the reception. They mainly just talked about how the wedding was, and normal chit-chat. Well, until they started trying for the fourth or fifth time to get Ivy into the conversation.
When Ivy seemed to say that she found something off with Pete at the wedding and such, Patrick and Becca glanced at each other, both knowing that he was probably thinking long and hard about the proposing issue again. Pete had badgered both Patrick and Becca for weeks about how and if he should propose to Ivy. If he was acting odd enough to have Ivy notice, even with the way she was half-dazed most of the time, then it was something to pay attention to.
When they reached the reception hall, they were (of course) some of the first to arrive. After all, Becca was Maid of Honor, not to mention she just liked getting places a little earlier than schedule. As they started for the doors, Patrick pulled Becca off to the side under a nearby shade tree, letting Ivy go in. Becca raised an eyebrow at the smirk on Patrick’s face, as he put a finger to his lips before pulling her close to him and wrapping his arms around her.
“I just wanted some time alone with my gorgeous fiancée before we hit the crowds from the reception. ... I can’t believe Ryan and Cat are married. Crazy, huh? And even more so when you think that we’re next.”
Becca smiled as Patrick pulled her to him, wrapping her arms around his neck lightly as they always seemed to do. She kissed him before pulling back slightly at the mention that they were going to be the next ones married. Yes, she was still absolutely and madly in love with him and more than willing to marry him. It was just still a bit of a shock type experience. She took these things weirdly. It freaked her out to know that a friend she had grown up with was now married and had kids, or to hear that some of her other childhood friends were already married and divorced again. So being engaged and almost married was still a bit of a shock for herself.
Patrick must have taken her pulling away the wrong way as he gave her a worried look and tried to capture her eyes with his own. “Becca, are you okay? You have the lost in too deep of thought look on your face.”
She shook her head lightly, giving Patrick a reassuring smile, relief on her face as she saw him smile back at her. “I’m fine. It’s just the normal weirdness that comes with thinking about actually being married. I still don’t think I’ve gotten accustomed to the idea of being engaged. Not that I’m having second thoughts or any such matter, but it’s just almost out-of-body type stuff, if you understand any of what I just talked about.”
“I understand exactly what you’re talking about, Becca. The same sort of thing happened with the band. Not that I’m exactly comparing this to the band. But I’m sure you understand what I’m talking about.” Patrick blushed a bright pink, which just caused Becca to giggle and kiss him again. He just looked so adorable when flustered like that.
“Alright you two, enough sneaking around under trees and such. You’re supposed to be in here for the reception.”
Both Patrick and Rebecca jumped at the sound of a voice. Although when they saw who had interrupted, they both merely smiled. Becca unwrapped her arms from Patrick’s neck and walked over giving Joe a light punch on the arm. “You know, Joe-Joe, sometimes you have the worst timing ever. And to think, you’re a famous musician.”
Joe gave her a playful frown. “You aren’t insulting my music, are you? I would hate to have to get in trouble with your fiancé for showing just how talented I am.” He smirked at the joke, making a funny face that caused both Becca and Patrick to laugh.
“That’s okay. I think I’ll just inform her later about the rules with our musical genius. But at least you did have one thing right. We should be in here for the reception. I would hate to think that we missed the newlyweds walking in.”
“No, but I think they just pulled up, so we should get a move on rather than just standing around talking.” Becca grinned as Joe gave her a playful bow as he held the door open for her before following Patrick into the room. She smiled seeing Brendon, Jon, Pete, and Spencer all huddled up on the stage. That could be trouble. She turned to Patrick with an eyebrow raised. “Do you know what they’re up to? Because if it’s what I think it is ...” Becca trailed off, not really sure how she felt about the ever-looming proposal from her brother.
Patrick leaned over with his arms wrapped lightly around her waist. “I think Pete might have finally gotten up the nerve to do what we’ve been expecting for some time now. I think this is certainly going to be a show to say the least.”
When Patrick seemed to agree with her suspicions, Becca frowned. In public? She had a nagging feeling something was off with this. Sure Petey didn’t sweat public announcements or such. But Ivy? Becca wasn’t completely sure how she would react. Although luckily there was a bit of a distraction as the newlyweds walked in. She smiled and blew them a kiss before sitting down at the table with Patrick, Joe, and Andy.
She was just about to get into an argument with Joe over various details of the Star Wars movies when Brendon started to sing, and Pete came out and knelt down on one knee. Becca frowned and glanced over at Patrick, who seemed to be watching the scene with as much apprehension as she was from the door, where he was standing after having gone out to the car to grab her jacket.
When Pete hopped down from the stage and walked over in front of Ivy and dropped to one knee, Becca covered her mouth with a hand, as it had fallen open. Oh no. He was doing it in public. This was going to be a trainwreck.
“Ivy Cataluna Reynolds, I have loved you almost from the first moment Rebecca brought you home from school. Though at first it was a mere fleeting love, I know now that the love we have is a lasting love and it would give me no greater pleasure, no greater honor, then to have you be my wife. Ivy, will you marry me?”
As Pete asked the question that everyone knew he was going to, Ivy seemed to be in a state of utter shock before muttering something and rushing off in the direction of the bathroom, bumping into Patrick before continuing on her way. She jumped as Ryan appeared beside her, Cat having rushed off to try and calm Ivy down.
“Ryan, I think my brother just proposed ... to Ivy. She just left him there...What do I do? I can't choose loyalties between friend and brother.” She swallowed a few times, trying to get over the shock of the moment. She really didn’t know what to do with the situation. Things were going to get sticky in a hurry.
“I know Cat just disappeared to talk to her, maybe you ought to do the same, see what's keeping the two ...” Ryan suggested, biting his lip uncertainly. Becca merely nodded before jumping up and rushing over to Pete, a frown already starting to crease her forehead.
“Petey?” She didn’t want to touch him, having been around several times when he had exploded at various people in the past. As Pete stood up, he dusted himself off with a look of mixed shock and pain.
“Becca, save it ... It was a mistake-, just forget I even tried.”
Although by the strain in his voice, Becca could tell something was wrong, even if she hadn’t been his sister. But by having lived with him for so many years, she knew that having him this upset also meant that if something didn’t happen to get him out of his funk, things could go from bad to worse for her brother. And she was not about to have Cat’s wedding reception ruined because of this. Not to mention she hated seeing her brother like this. It had happened before with several of the other girls that he had dated off and on throughout the years, and she didn’t want to have him hurt again.
“I don't think that's necessary. I'll be right back to see how we can salvage the rest of this night.” Becca shook her head and gave him a quick hug before walking off in the direction of the bathroom. Oh, this was not going to be a good thing right now. As if she wasn’t a fierce enough person when anyone attacked her friends, this one was horribly personal, as she was insanely close to her eldest brother. She couldn’t help but mutter a few choice words as she made her way to the bathroom. Boy had the shit hit the fan on this night. But she was determined that nothing was going to be completely ruined. Ryan and Cat would not have a spoiled wedding reception, and she would not see her brother’s heart broken again over a girl.
