"So, we have one more errand to run before we go home," Jason reminded.
"Oh, yea, shoot, I nearly forgot," Kelly replied.
"What you got?" Carrie asked, curiously.
"We just need to stop by the jewelry store down the street real quick and pick up my mom's birthday present. It's in a couple weeks," Kelly explained.
"Cool, what did y'all get her?"
"A set of pearl earrings," Jason replied. "I can't lie, Kelly picked them out. I suck at that sort of thing."
"Really? Cause I mean, I heard Princess Diaries was your favorite movie, so I just figured..."
"You little snitch," Jason laughed, playfully elbowing Alex.
She giggled, "Well, it's true."
"Here we go," Kelly smiled as they stopped in front of a small jewelry boutique. "Now Alex--"
"I know, I know, don't touch anything."
Kelly laughed, "Good. Jason, that goes for you too."
"Fine," he rolled his eyes, making Alex laugh as they walked into the store.
"You want to look around while Kelly talks to the man over there?" Carrie asked her.
"Yea," Alex nodded, still in her arms.
Carrie brought them over to the glass counters.
"Wow," Alex gasped. "Those are shiny."
"Those are engagement rings."
Alex frowned slightly.
"What's wrong?"
"My mom had one of those," she nodded. "She broke it with a hammer when my dad went away."
Carrie raised her eyebrows. She'd never heard the small girl mention her family before, "Have you ever talked to Kelly about any of that?"
"Yea, did you know her parents divorced when she was little, too?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded, rubbing her back comfortingly.
"Let's look at something else. I don't like these."
"Sure," Carrie smiled gently, bringing her over to a different case.
"Which one do you think Kelly got her mom?" Alex asked as they looked at the earrings before them.
"I'm not sure," Carrie shook her head as she walked along the counter.
"I'm sure they're pretty," Alex nodded.
"Of course," Carrie smiled, watching as Alex's eyes lit up. "What?"
Alex pointed down to the case before them where several bracelets lay.
"You like those?"
"Look that one," Alex said, pointing to a simple silver charm bracelet that had a couple music notes as charms on it. "Kelly would love that."
"Yea."
"I wish I could get her that for her fan gift," Alex sighed.
"Well, why don't you?"
"I don't have enough money in my bank for that," she shook her head. "That's got to be expensive. All I've got is change."
"You never know," Carrie replied. "Why don't we count what you have when we get back?"
"You think I'll really have enough?"
"I think you'd be surprised," Carrie nodded with a knowing smile.
"Ok," they heard Kelly walk up behind them. "Y'all ready to get going?"
"Yea," Alex nodded, unable to stifle a yawn.
"By the time we get back it's gonna be bed time for you," she smiled gently, reaching out to adjust her bandana for her. "You've had a long day munchkin."
"That I did," she nodded in agreement before resting her head on Carrie's shoulder, making both singers' hearts melt.
